It's not about a bad experience though. It's about not being able to change settings in the browser which is strange. It's probably going to lead to making it harder to remove viruses. @@mage3690 I think Linux is too complex for the average user - I haven't rlly used any modern ones so I don't know if there are some with better UX then Ubuntu (for example). Also a large majority of people building their own pcs (and therefore having to buy an os) are gamers and most games aren't Linux compatible without some setup first
They have also announced that devices like mine aren't qualified for updates beyond next year. So definitely motivating enough for me to shift to Linux soon!
The main reason (by far) people use windows is because the gaming industry was forced to do so. But nowadays with steam and proton layer (and other software) or even the developers themselves creating software for linux, the Windows days are counted.
The issue with it now though, is you only get what like 5 activations for a windows 11 key where as for the older operating systems you could use your key indefinitely, so you change a piece of hardware and it sees it as a whole new pc so you have to waste an activation
The most amazing change Microsoft has ever made to windows is making the store and online services like the xbox app not work unless you're using the latest version of win10 or one version before it. Old win10 versions are so much better than the new ones, but Microsoft purposefully makes it harder to use them (you couldn't even bluetooth your phone to your pc to play audio on win10 until 20H1).
Edge is integrated into practically everything. It likely has something to do with data control. I couldn't activate my copy of windows, which I did pay for, because their online systems are busted like old Skype account logins. Instead, I had to resort to kmspico - that's on them, not me. I have a key, their system won't let me register. Honestly, if Adobe was on Linux, I'd outright switch. Unfortunately, vm's can't reliably access all gpu's and hardware.
I've been using unactivated windows for more than a year since they deactivated my windows key for switching my motherboard. A few months back I got a laptop with windows 11 and since it didn't seem so bad and Windows kept stopping my boot sequence to advertise i capitulated. I installed windows 11 on my pc "for free" and yet my tower is still unactivated. They probably want to avoid another lawsuit
Microsoft already has already lost an antitrust lawsuit twenty years ago because they forced their browser
Never forget the Microsoft 1998 Anti-Trust lawsuit from the United States Government.
Never forget that creepy Gates testimony. Looked like someone who does unspeakable things to little animals. It was so bad they had to revamp his whole image into Mr Rogers and upgrade his humanity chip.
You guys do realize that was based on Microsoft having a browser that shipped with Windows?
It's a joke by today's standards. When are they going to go after Google for shipping Chrome on Android phones? Oh wait.
It's an anti-pirate measure. What they have to gain is annoying a few pirates into getting a valid license to use.
The measures might not be that effective but that's what it is.
I really amazed that this failure of product dident met his match after all this time...
I am activated and still use Wallpaper Engine...Animated PC wallpapers are amazing.
Literally buy a $2 code on a key reselling website. It's that easy. For Office too. Never failed me.
Link?
i get mine for free from microsoft
Or use a batch script. Mas or kms_vl_all. I've never once paid for Windows!

Know any that wont give me 13 virus'?
There’s something called “Double Jepardy,” and it’s not allowed in the US. Microsoft has already been brought to court for “anti-competitive” action when regarding Edge
When Windows 10 first dropped they would offer valid licenses to anyone who upgraded from Windows 7, even if they were using a pirated copy. Fun fact: This still works. You can install a pirated 7 on a machine, register that machine with your Microsoft account then upgrade and you've got yourself a free lifetime Windows 10 license, which can also become a free Windows 11 license too, if you hate yourself.
We dont use edge, it is good for downloading other browsers.
I just use the installers i have on a usb.. wont ever click on edge's app icon
Next update: unactiavated windows won't USBing* @@blazicon_201
It's not. Package managers are far, far better than getting a .exe from the internet.
@@blazicon_201 True, that is better than using the web browser to download.. well. Web browsers I have been a Firefox user since windows 7 and since I keep files I don't have to deal with installing web browsers. BUT I do work with a lot of USB boot stuff and at that point I have an USB with files n stuff
@@Soccera0 FAX📠 I once tried downloading a windows 10 iso file through their OFFICIAL WEBSITE and edge was the only browser I could use because you had to enable mobile mode through dev settings (Firefox and Chrome did not work) I had to download it and I waited...... it says failed download, I just used motrix later.
I’m gonna be real here Microsoft is on hinged right now. Someone is definitely going nuts on the job
Unhinged 🤦♂️ 😢
after damn near a decade of Linux gaming, I'm finally vindicated.
I changed my motherboard, and then my windows watermark came up. Tried to contact support but they never answered.
Gotta be honest you make no sense, how is this even remotely anti-competitive, having a bad experience isn't being anti-competitive, especially if that bad experience is for people who don't own the product.
It's not about a bad experience though. It's about not being able to change settings in the browser which is strange. It's probably going to lead to making it harder to remove viruses. It's a weird choice.
The antitrust comment is related to how Microsoft is making it harder to change the default browser for activated Windows installations. This seems like it might be partially related to the same change.
@@Leo-sd3jt they’re not losing anything from non-paying customers. If they use Linux, it doesn’t matter to Microsoft. If they stop committing piracy and actually buy the os, then more money. They don’t need to give security features to people who don’t buy the os.
@@Leo-sd3jtmaking it harder for people who don't own the product. Cope or buy the thing already.
Then buy windows. Easy.
Take to the sees it's extremely easy for windows 😂
More like just install Linux
@@mactenakaLinux is like thousands of problems for one solution
@@Pikachu_mm in my daily driving Mint for the past 9 months the only significant problem I've run into is Roblox for my kids. Considering that Roblox now requires a rootkit to run though, it would've been removed entirely from any windows setup I would've had anyway. My only regret so far is not making the switch sooner.
@@Pikachu_mmthe solutions are allways one command/ 3 clicks away, that is faster than windows, the issue is the comunity forgets normies might join their penguin fan club and doesn't give common snense advice, instead giving you 10 instructions for software you might not even have, nor know how to use
As somebody with an inactivated windows PC, I can say that this is legitimately changing nothing.
They said windows 10 would be the last. Now we have windows 11 and a 12 on the way. They realized that they couldn't make money if they stopped making new versions of windows. On top of all this they couldn't keep up with the changes and are failing. So they have to make some effort to get people's data so they can keep people from PC hopping windows so they can make more money.
I know he talked about this, but
Like anyone even uses edge
I'm curious if anyone noticed outside of reading patch notes
Me, since 2020, it's technically Chrome but less RAM consumption
I use edge on my new laptop. I can't be bothered with installing chrome when its literally the same thing just less optimized.
Wdym the fact you can use it at all for free is something they didn't have to do... Them encouraging people to pay for the product isn't anti competitive or anti consumer it's the way it should be
....people actually use Edge browser?
@@asakayosapro ?
I mean, it _is_ something they have to do, or people would just use Linux instead. Their overwhelming market share would go away in a flash if there wasn't a free version and they know it.
@@mage3690 I think Linux is too complex for the average user - I haven't rlly used any modern ones so I don't know if there are some with better UX then Ubuntu (for example). Also a large majority of people building their own pcs (and therefore having to buy an os) are gamers and most games aren't Linux compatible without some setup first
Linux actually sounds pretty cool
Hey, a consumer friendly move, even MS don't want you to use Edge.
That's pretty fair. You're using a free trial version and expect it to work exactly as the paid version 🤣
🤨
I remember the 90's and Microsoft should too.
They have also announced that devices like mine aren't qualified for updates beyond next year. So definitely motivating enough for me to shift to Linux soon!
The title is WILD 😂
It also limits and turns off some of the setting features-audio etc.
You can still change your wallpaper! You just need to select the image with right click and select “use as background”
"unactivated windows can't edge" 😏
but linux can with no restriction, microsoft doesn't even hate linux at all, EA on the other hand, they are windows simps

Every time I understand Linux users more and more
It's so easy to go around unactivated windows licenses now.
Thank god I've switched to linux 4 years ago.
Best decision made in my life.
I'm just done with windows at this point, and I think Linux based distros from steam might be the best thing to happen to gaming in a while. In due time I will observe the stability and workability of different linux distros for the os on my desktop, because I'm really starting to hate windows man.
Fun fact: if anyone had gone to the Kennedy Space Center and went to the Saturn V exhibit. You’ll see that even NASA doesn’t activate windows.
Bill Gates made (and is still making) billions from Windows, but that’s not enough for him.
Glad I switched to Apple. Free OS, premium experience.
That'll really piss off both Edge users.
