  • Costume designer Michele Clapton explains how she came up with the looks for each iconic "Game of Thrones" character's costumes. Clapton starts by sketching out the costumes for people like Cersei Lannister, Arya Stark and Daenerys Targaryen, then spends a few months bringing them to life.

    She should absolutely win an Emmy for the work she's done in the whole series. Some of the best costumes I've ever seen on the small screen. I marveled every time I saw them on screen!

      @@redjohn3662 You are so ignorant. Design is as important an art as any other. oh and by the way, they don't all wear 'Indian ethnic costumes' the designers have spent years designing outfits that are inspired by various different cultures, both modern and ancient when considering GoT. Just because you are ignorant and have no eye for design doesn't mean the rest of us don't.

    She did a fantastic job. Of all the problems that I had with this show, the costumes, the sets, the acting, the stunts, the visual effects were all amazing to watch. This group of creative people deserves every accolade and award they are up for. They made a supreme and valiant effort to elevate the material, and they succeeded as much as could be expected. None of my criticism of the writing of the show can take away from the exceptional work of everyone else involved in the production.

    Looking at Danys costume sketches here...I wish she had an embroidered dragon head on the bottom left of her coat with some dragonscale details and jewels...I also wish they gave her armoured pieces aswell as drogon, it's like the writers made her immortal; having all those bolts fired at her and drogon, wights charging at her about to hack her to death, sons of the harpy, the dothraki...you would think that her character would have some sense and start adding armour to her outfits little by little...then maybe we would of had a clearer understanding to Dany's mentality; Did she turn mad like her dear old dad (paranoia, schizophrenia etc.) Or did she turn out of greif and betrayal?

      HARD AGREE. I actually created my own redesigns with added Targaryen symbolism and armor. I'm currently designing and beginning to construct a more casual style Targaryen jacket for my boyfriend. The books are so colorful compared to the show, I wanted her to be repping red and black more!

    Wow, loved the costuming. I think I missed this as a profession I would have enjoyed. Where do I apply? I have a workroom with leather, fur, beads, tons of fabric and do create 'one-of-a-kind' items like bags, baby shoes, halter tops, pillows, bed coverlets, clothing out of (primarily) buckskin, but have used other leathers. I have several industrial machines, including a fur machine - where can I sign up to work on epic productions like this? Epic effort to pull off costuming for this series, BRAVO! (I'm serious about working on such a production BTW )

    And then 3 and 4.

    I hate that some of the costumes in this show and in house of the dragon have bland colors and sometimes look dirty. Medieval people loved colorful clothing (red, blue, yellow, green) and their clothes were clean. They bathed and liked to be clean. Even the poor.

    The final costume for Daenerys was so hideous you can tell Michelle gave up on her like everyone else and she needed few weeks to come up with that it looks like something made from cheap fake leather, for a final costume for a queen you should have made something a little bit regal, and with all the money you had for this season it looked so cheap!!!

    • @Diva2011Girl
      @Diva2011Girl Před 4 lety +8

      Darko Cvetkovski the final costume was actually made from real lambskin leather, its not as extravagant and showy as daenerys other costume but it has a simple beauty about the costume

    • @coronajewelry
      @coronajewelry Před 4 lety +4

      @@Diva2011Girl i disagree i am sure its well made but it appears cheap on the screen and at the end result is all that matters, it is the same with the final season its like a well-oiled machine if some part doesn't work in this case the script the whole season got the downfall, so it didn't matter that the actors were great, the music was great the visuals, because we all felt that something was missing, and the backlash was huge. In fact, the backlash proves what I am talking about. Regarding the dress, it appears on the skin as fake leather the lux feeling isn't there, but when you see it on pictures its like patchwork of leather pieces with tones of red and gold almost villain-like, but still I don't like it it is the same shape. Michelle Clapton should have to change it into something more regal, a dress with a cape, or at least change it in the throne room in the final scene where John finds her. It wasn't right, with all the money on their disposal, a huge disappointment and no excuse can defend that.

      Darko Cvetkovski i somewhat agree but i did like the simplistic feel of the costume, me being a designer also so i get what she went for but s8 wasnt the best season for costumes, feels like they did just use old costumes and alter them slighty

      it would have been unnesacery, if denys final costume was regal like sansa"s coronation dress, in the state of dany in ep 5,, you cant make her look great when she is in greaf and anger,,, anyway I wanted deny to have the best costume of all 8 seasons,, but i am okey with that costume,,( sorry for bad english)
