The new layout for the adventure mode looks promising.
"With the abilities, you can deal a ton of damage" against an AI without anything equipped. That's kind of a huge part of skill battles. But once you have high levelled characters with skills that help make free perfect clears, and having grinded for good items, yeah it can become powerful.
Anyways, I personally didn't like the auto replay feature. I can usually remember to save replays on my own, and the game doing it automatically takes up a slot out of 50. Lag at some points is also an issue pointed out. Otherwise, nothing too bad about the game.
Yeah the auto difficulty was the only real problem I had. I was glad when it got harder, I like a challenge. But around chapter 6 it got SO hard! The AI made like 0 mistakes and ended up setting of like 7 chains immediately. I CANT HANDLE THAT!

NOTE: PPT2 also has lots of save data bonuses. This does not require other games to be installed or inserted, but requires save data to be present on the system from having turned the game on at least once, I think.

I played the demo for both games and yeah its worth it’s puyo puyo tetris 2. I think what I like most about this game is how similar it is to dragon quest builders 2 in that it’s very dumb and silly but it doesn’t hide from it.

Idk, i only played Tetris 99 and the PPT demo and liked it, but at that price I may wait for it to be on sale, Maybe 20€.
Never played these but watching this as it caught my attention. Immediately noticed huge similarities with Kirby's Ghost Trap / Avalanche on the SNES. Surprised this wasn't mentioned as its an almost exact copy, even down to the little eyes on the ghosts dropped on your opponent
I always read this as Pew pew. As in, the noise Grand Poo Bear makes when doing the asteroids task in Among Us.

You can actually play Fever mode as a challenge mode option. Just wanted to adress that real quick.
Edit: also, you can literally get a perfect clear instantly in Skill battle if you get a T, J or L as your first piece, spin it so it's 3 blocks high, and right before it locks, do Ess's Terraformer skill and then right after that Tee's 2 Line Clear skill.
You can also do something similar to that of you have a I peice as one of your first blocks at the satrt of the match, put the other block your start with in the bottom left, use Ess's Terraformer skill right before it locks, you can instantly do a Perfect Clear with a Tetris.

I really wish you guys talked about the accessibility options, cause puyo puyo is very difficult for somebody who is color blind, but I understand that it's kind of minor and doesn't apply to everyone.
From the video I could at least tell their were **some** uniquely shaped Puyo styles, but some clarification would be nice I agree.
For those researching the game currently, I'll like to note that free DLC was added for this.

Thanks so much for this review! The english voice acting made me give up on the story mode in the original very quickly, so hearing you can play this with the japanese acting makes it so worth it.
This should've been a DLC / update to the original game.
Auto difficulty hit hard on later chapters to the point that there was no realistic way to get 3 star or 4 star in stages.
Yep, I recently replayed on a new safe file. It kicks in around mid chapter 3.

I started to follow @NintendoLife when Jon started with this YT channel since I liked him on GameXplain but except for a couple of vids when he started being with NL I didn't notice him being on YT vids and I noticed NL don't post YT vids as much as GX so I stopped following NL guessing Jon wouldn't be on anymore YT vids.

I grew up playing Dr. Robotnic’s Mean Bean Machine on Sega and The New Tetris on 64. I wish there was more inclusion of Nostalgia from of those games. Not putting “square” Tetris (the game mode introduced in New Tetris and also used in Tetris worlds) in this sequel is a huge bummer. It would have been a great addition to add some competitive balance to Tetris players over Puyo Puyo players. The other modes from Tetris worlds like Cascade Tetris should also be here to make it the puzzle game of all puzzle games. I also wish there were “game skins” that let you play the game but resemble old games you used to play like Tetris on the NES, New Tetris on 64, Kirby’s Avalanche on SNES or Mean Bean Machine on Genesis. (The Kirby’s Avalanche skin could have been a Switch exclusive) I wonder why any new Tetris game doesn’t let you reskin every tetromino to the color scheme you want. There is no reason for a puzzle game like this to not have more nostalgic scenes and music built into it for as long as these franchises have existed and have had player for 30 years. (I’ve been waiting 30 some years for a new Tetris game to bring back “the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” music from the NES version) I like the addition of the Sonic characters but it still doesn’t scratch the itch for puzzle game fans who grew up playing different versions of these games like mean bean machine. The first game blew our minds by combining both puzzlers. The second game could (should) have been the ultimate versions of both Tetris and Puyo Puyo with all the nostalgia options and music, gameplay modes like (square and cascade Tetris) and re skinning options to make the screen look however you want while you kill hours on a puzzle game. What a missed opportunity.
I want Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine characters. I want the same Robotnik from Aosth and a Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine mode, but they wouldn't do this.
Quick question: In Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Light Marle is slightly resembled to Lillie from Pokémon Sun and Moon, and Squares is slightly resembled to Gladion from Pokémon Sun and Moon as well.
I think I’ll wait for the dlc first. A new story mode is nice, but there’s only one new mode in terms of gameplay.

Tbh, for pvt all they had to do was nerf the damage a tetris does to do the same as a tsd. Think about it, a tetris does the same as a tst but what would you rather do? Go for a risk and cost the game by doing a tst or play it safe and go for a tetris. Not only that but think about it, a tetris is faster because a tst you have to soft drop to execute it where as a tetris you just just hard drop and quickly go for another tetris

It would be cool if they added a fever mode DLC and it combined the zone mechanic from Tetris Effect and.... um.... fever mode from Puyo Puyo Fever.
Puyopuyo tetris 1 online/netcode was far from good, it was ATROCIOUS especially when playing vs japanese players, there's NO reason the game should have INPUT LAG online when the game is mostly asymmetric, just look at tetris99, that game has a fantastic netcode in comparison
the lag seriously pissed me off when playing the game, I managed to get top20 in my country but at that level even the slightest lag can cause costly misdrops and that was frustrating
I really REALLY hope they'll fix the netcode

I was wondering if they fixed the unbalanced attacks when it's Tetris vs Puyo. Puyo always has the more poweful and less skillful attacks vs Tetris attacks that involve a lot more skill imo.

Champions/esports kind of split the player base between PPT and itself. At least this is like a definitive current version

I have an extremely specific question for anyone who sees this who has Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.
In the first game, if you wanted to mute the voices, you had to turn off sound effects entirely, but that would turn off the block sounds aa well, which I need when I play Tetris fast.
My question is this: in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, in the sound settings, can you toggle voices and sound effects separately, or are they still combined under one setting?
I can't help finding the voices incredibly annoying due to the intense repetition of them combined with how intentionally high-energy they are, but at the same time if the block sounds are muted, it takes me slightly longer to judge when I've moved a certain amount left or right, overall slowing me down pretty significantly over the course of a match, so I need these to be separate settings.
If they are separated settings, then that's honestly worth my $40 alone even if that's the only difference between this and the first game.

Wait, masterful localization? The lack of quality clearly shows that at a rush job. Too many reused lines mixed with new ones, sometimes jarringly.
i think they mean in story mode, localization there is very good and one of the lines had me rolling on the floor laughing.
however, i very much agree. draco sounds like they wanted to give her a new alt entirely, why reuse the lines..? especially sucks that in japanese, the voicelines aren't reused. very much a rush job. you can tell that in the trailer, they might not have even had the english voices completely done, because it kept switching between english and japanese

I think the only thing that disappointed me is that new swap mode tune when playing tetris aka. Korobeiniki... That new remix is sooo boring and unoriginal... But at least there is the new fusion theme much closer to the old folk dance song... And to the positives... The classic sega cheats are back and you can unlock everything just pressing few buttons :D
