I’ll never understand why “give the fans what they want” is such a controversial idea.
It actually makes perfect sense, once you understand that they expect you to want what they tell you that you want. Nothing enrages a control freak more than the thought of someone doing something, somewhere, without asking permission first.
As Larry Fink said "You need to enforce behaviour", they know what the fans want, and they hate that, so they will try their best to demoralize you into submission.

Politics is the regulation of consensus by force. They want their consensus to be imposed to every single individual in every single part of their life. They can't actually state that, because we live in a liberal democracy, so they have to pretend they have justifications to invade every part of your life.
Simple, they hate us.
Because giving the fans what they want is viewed as more effort and more expensive than giving rich investors what they want, generating a bigger profit even when the product is a failure.
This is why people don't trust game journalists.
Game journalists haven't been actual game journalists since magazines went extinct.

I am glad that Shift Up made the right choice. Now we can at least say Shift Up did eventually stay true to their statement that the game wouldn't be censored.

That's why I find it frustrating when big publishers buy small/medium developers whose games I've enjoyed in the past. Because then the risk of going under is no longer dictated by us consumers but the whims of the big corporation.

Also keep in mind that Shift-Up is a company that made Nikke:Goddess of war which has a LUDICROUS amount of fanservice in it, be it through stories, events and skins, they made it canon that Nikkes in that game essentially want to sleep with you.

The original costumes are still censored though, so I'll be getting the PC ver. Not only to have the new outfits that are uncensored, but to have the censored outfits get uncensored through mods.

I'm not going to lie, I'm immensely surprised that Sony caved here, again, even after partially caving for Helldivers 2. This gives me immeasurable hope for the future of gaming and the effectiveness of consumer advocacy. If we can unite against the woke machine, we can win even in situations that seem totally against us with a company that had seemed to completely surrender to them, but is now surrendering to us. I really thought that Grummz' plan to have people continue to buy the game, but simply sign a petition and voice a desire for it to change, would fail, but here we are.

@@Nuinwing not quite, the new one is different, has other elements to it. It is missing the bunny ears and tail as well.
Also the other new outfit just has the chest part from the cybernetic bondage outfit that was censored, the rest of the outfit is completely different.

The game is still censored. No censorship was removed. You still can not get the original uncensored outfits in the new patch. Only the 2 new uncensored outfits inspired by the original ones.

If you can't have both then it's better to be feared than loved, way more consistent in both results and achievability, and corporations even when they make honest mistakes will correct said mistakes way faster if the customers assume malice regardless of whether it's the correct assumption or not.

We managed to get a win with Helldivers 2 (even if the cost was bloody)
Now we won a second battle with Stellar Blade... Which is an average game, but lets be honest... Those who brought the game did so for the outfits.
The fact we got the outfits back is another major win.
I'd consider it better then average considering the quality of AAA slop these days. Not just a new game plus ready to be patched on day 1 but a new game plus that came with not just more costumes but expanded skill trees. Meanwhile AC valhalla promised a new game plus and never delivered which is a shame because I refuse to pick stuff up off the ground across the entire map again the mid story beats are not worth that torture.
I'll take "average" over "absolutely butt-fuckingly AWFUL".

Nothing changed. I am disappointed because I got the impression they removed the censorship, but they kept it. They just added new suits. Nothing changed. If you wanted to play as the Holiday Rabbit suit, it's still censored.

I've beaten the game, loved it, and I will continue to sing its praises, and continue to thank the devs who made Stellar Blade. The people we're lambasting, are _Sony_ . Specifically, Sony Interactive Entertainment, or SIE. I sent an email to the studio myself (and so did thousands of other people) saying that they support Stellar Blade and the devs, and that they want to see the original outfits.

The success of the game probably gave them more sway, especially in Japan, as it did much better than expected with Japanese players (shockingly).
@@17th_Colossus it also helps that there wasnt something to the counter that was seen as more valuable. like with Helldivers, getting rid of the mandatory linking was great... but the game gave them an excuse to cut out countries that cant opt into their money milking scheme. undoing the censorship will only make the game more popular so they simply have to swallow their pride momentarily
The weird censorship person at Sony probably didn't know or lost their sway.
By not readding the original outfits but making a new variation closer (but still different) to the original design instead. It's a compromise, but at least it shows Shift Up is listening.
DLC has interesting wrinkles when it comes to dev/publisher contracts, which is they sometimes differ wildly from the original product.

Unfortunately, Arch, this update is just a distraction. It only added 2 costumes (there were more that were censored) as alts, and more importantly, THE UPDATE CENSORED MORE COSTUMES.

Between this and Helldivers, it's disturbing that the stick really is the only thing left that gets results, especially since game dev life is supposedly already stressful enough without the social violence. But we tried using our words and they simply ignored us, we gave them carrots and they just grew fat and entitled, ironically calling us entitled for expecting something in return for the carrots, so the stick is all that's left.
Humans by nature are ment to be ruled by tyrants.
Being able to overcome our nature is what sets us apart from animals.
While I can't support them by buying Stellar Blade because PCMR, yet atleast, I can and have been supporting them through their other product.

A reminder that Goddess of Victory: Nikke is developed by Shift Up, and has no issue with hot women, and don't censor unless it's against the law to show it on screen, and Korea has some nutty laws involving adverts. This has been and is a Sony Entertainment issue. The South Koreans in this equation aren't the problem, the Californians are. I am glad that Shift Up managed to convince Sony to stop being anti money at least this time with the support of the community.

I wouldn't go that far to say, that one should always "use the stick" - at least as long as it's smaller private company, not the listed company. Listed companies know only Excel - and this is the only way to communicate with them, so yeah. Probably in these cases one should stick to the stick

Love how they secretly added the two previously censored outfits in without announcing it. The other 3 were known but Shift Up surprised us with adding them to the game despite never being mentioned prior lol.

Arch I partially agree with you. You need both carrot and a stick, one don't work without of other. If you use only the carrot as wee seen corpo's will get greedy and lazy, But if you use stick too much the corpo's will cut their losses in industry and quit producing all together. Achieving balance is most important thing consumer should lern and "zealously" practice.
This would lead to smaller companies taking the niche in the market and, if they were aware how the bigger ones failed, thriving by making good games. There is already a carrot built into a functional market: the customers' money. Corporations act like sociopaths and psychopaths, goodwill is viewed as an exploitable weakness by such creatures, therefore the approach must be adapted to that attitude. *Stick.*

The only thing this means is, when we're being disrespected or lied to by a company, we need to go absolutely insane. Got completely batshit. Destroy their social media with negativity until they comply. Don't forget how we won the battle for Helldivers 2.

Just the fact that most edits were adding a bit of extra fabric instead of editing the texturing work of the original outfits to cover up more is enough to tell anyone that has ever been in the same room as a 3d-program that it was a last minute thing. Easily added and just as easy to remove again if fans end up getting their way (as we seem to have done).

The work is already done. Mostly. Poke the UI programmer and shove a checkbox into the interface options for the outfit variants (censored and original). Have QA run a side by side play through to check the cut scenes for outfit conflicts. Release a patch. Still, none of the controversy is real. It's a stunt to boost eyes on the product and move PS5 consoles.
For large companies and corporations, I agree. Stick is king, and the carrot is my business.
But for smaller companies and indie developers I will sing praises and spread word if I feel they are doing a good job. They need all the help they can get and the more competition enters the market the better we'll all be.
And no, I'm sorry small indie developer studio... the MOMENT you sign on under a large publisher you are considered part of that publisher, because no amount of support I give to you is going to actually benefit you, and any money I spend is going straight to that publisher anyway, so you, too, just get the stick if you mess up.
