@@riptors9777 Eowyn wasn't "kickass" character in the books, she was tragic character driven to depression and despair by Wormtongue who convinced her that Rohirrim were backward savages and that she should be ashamed of her ancestry and culture. When she rode to war she was looking for her own death, not victory or protecting someone else.
Ultimately it was meeting with Faramir and his love for her that gave her a reason to live on.

I don’t know. Rings of Power is pretty bad, mostly due to how boring it is and how much they couldn’t work with (thankfully).
Even though it’s a bad idea, I can at least say having a female protagonist as a Rohirim makes sense and fits in with LOTR. It’s lazy but consistent with what came before.

My knowledge on the Lord of the Rings is kind of limited but I figured that was right out of place.

It is mentioned that the armies of Rohan got destroyed VERY hard by a Mumak that was brought and ran rampant over the plains of Rohan. They couldn't deal with it and were nearly wiped out. The city that the fellowship visits, the Golden Hall of Meduseld, is held against the enemy forces and, in a single sentence, it is noted that "even the women were forced to fight on the walls in defence of the city in that dark day". Though not a direct quote as Im going off memory.
Regardless. It was not a source of pride or a source of salvation of Rohan. It was the WORST possible outcome to the story that the women had to fight.
It was not unusual in history for women to fight at the very last, but usually that meant the society was already dead/conquered. It is not surprising that the House of Haleth, named for a warrior woman didn't really survive to the 2nd age compared to the other two houses of the Edain.

Man, imagine if she starts as an obnoxious girlboss but then almost immediately gets defeated in a major way and humbled and then has to go on a heros journey of self-improvement and learning. Wouldn't that subvert our expectations?

You make a good point. Though funnily enough Guyladriel always leads from the front in RoP. So much so that in the blizzard in episode 1 she doesn't even notice her soldier freezing to death behind her. In the nunenorean charge she's right in front too... luckily she's upside down so arrows can't harm her. And when Mt. Doom erupts she's right up front too. Fortunately she's invincible and can tank pyroclastic clouds without any trouble. So even if her followers were behind her with weapons in hand she would still be invulnerable. 😂
But I really don't understand why people say she has no character development when her journey is so rich and deep. Throughout season 1 she learns the universal lesson of 'Don't go on a millenia long quest of genocide and indiscriminate torture, antagonizing literally every single person you come across otherwise a hidden volcano might suddenly explode and do you no harm'.

That's because of the very strict line on adaptations carried forward from the professor himself. EVERYTHING except the material Tolkien himself wrote is not canon, and that even includes works like the Peter Jackson films that were widely praised. They're good movies but are still not canonical.
If those films aren't accepted as canon, obviously some corporate slop like the rings of power or this new "anime" won't either.
Thing is, all this insidious silencing of reviewers/commentators and fake good reviews works to a certain extent. If half the "mindless masses" (us according to big money) don't bother to check and take the fake reviews (PR) at face value the product will still make some money.
These woke games and movies were OKed years ago. Even if the studios/backers know it's a flop now, they have to try to make back some of the investment.
That they are using the most sad, untrustworthy and desperate tactics possible goes to show how badly they think they have messed up.

I will NEVER understand why they made a movie about a character NOBODY was interested I'm, and left the Mad Max title in it, when it had NOTHING to do with mad max.
You may not be aware, but Warner Brothers has terminal wokeness. Batgirl was a thing. It was so bad and woke that they PULLED THE MOVIE before it was made, in a rare moment of salience. That wasn't a sign that the company was going any less woke, however, but just sheer desperation because that movie would have broken their backs. So no, there's no real hope talking sense into them.
And as far as Furiosa goes, yeah. She is Mad Max's replacement. Otherwise she wouldn't get a dedicated origin story movie. I suspect the intention there was to set her up and then flat out replace Mad Max in a future movie. Probably the next one. I also suspect I am not along in thinking this to be the case.
I've heard that _Batwoman_ might have been a decent movie. Which would explain why the suits at WB didn't think they'd make back the marketing and distribution costs and vaulted it instead. We might find out in a decade or two when someone leaks it.

The fact that Fury Road already had Furiosa as a protagonist was enough to drive me completely away from it. Bait-and-switch me once, shame on you.
I noticed them taking down the other vid. I'm pretty sure the only thing in that video made by WB is a single screen grab. So apparently that's all it takes for fair use to go right out the window.
When I first heard about this project, I was cautiously optimistic. I already knew the story and thought it could be adopted while staying pretty true to how it was written. Then I heard that the MC was going to be the daughter of Helm, not Helm himself. At that point, my optimism died a quick and unceremonious death. Nothing that I've seen so far has brought it back, and in fact only buried it deeper into the ground. Tolkien never even *names* Helm's daughter, and he names almost everyone! He doesn't talk *about* her at all. She's basically a prop used to justify what Helm did and why the war between the Rohirrim and the Dunlendings started.
Can this still turn into a decent movie? Yes, it *could* still do so, but in this current era it sure seems to me that Wokeism has struck again.

I actually enjoy anime myself, I just don't want this show to succeed if it's going woke, so I'm hoping that the attempt to copy anime will turn more people away than it draws in.

Peter Jackson already gave us the definitive LOtR film experience. The story's been told, and it was awesome. All the stuff after that is just playing around with fine art. But that's just one man's opinion.

Anime just means animated in Japan by Japanese artist. It's not a set astatic. I don't know why some people think it means big eyes and cutesy stuff. There are some absolutely beautiful animes out there. Since there are zero animation studios in England where exactly should it be done?

That was from an interview. So someone said more than they were supposed to, but did they also force the interview to be removed? When they announced over a year ago it was going to have a female lead everyone knew this was a possibility. Now we're supposed to act shocked when the first reviews come out?
Another funny bit about them naming Helm's daughter "Hera" is that the primary characteristics generally attributed to Hera as a goddess in the Greek pantheon are jealousy and vengefulness.
By supplanting Helm's status as the main character and driver of the story, they're showing their own jealousy in many ways and vengefully sticking it to "teh pay-tree-arr-kee".

I would argue the point about WB/DC having the better Super Hero lineup, but it really is hard to argue with just the Justice League and Teen Titans being DC.
Of all the superheros out there, I have always loved Spiderman the most, for the reasons some people like Batman; He's smart, and uses that to his advantage. I like Peter more because of how friendly and affable he is, even with his rogues gallery.
Batman is almost always so frowny and angry, even when hes playing with villains hes striking terror into them, becoming He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Pete gets into knockdown dragout fights, he has loved ones die, but most of the time he's joking around. Hes a fun character, one that isnt supposed to be serious, because super heros arent serious.

I mean, to be perfectly honest, I treat anything that comes out of Hollywood (or tangentially related) as "guilty of being not worth my time until proven otherwise", but I am occasionally willing to give something the benefit of the doubt until I've got reason not to. Congratulations, WB, you gave me reasons not to.
