- Star Wars has had many many rough years under the lash of the Disney mouse. And The Acolyte was the harshest lick of the whip yet! It was an all in on diversity, DEI, woke and the feminine gaze. It was by far the most progressive story to ever come out of what was once the Magic Kingdom it was a full throated commitment to the agenda and yet the wider audience still did not appear to save it from being one of the worst pieces of entertainment ever made.

I got into Star Wars BECAUSE I loved pulpy sci-fi! And old timey special effects. And then I discovered a solid story, excellent hero's journey, rich universe, and I was hooked.
Unity of mankind was achieved through the universally shared hatred for the Acolyte. Simply beautiful.
I have long since abandoned hope of humanity ever being capable of uniting for anything. Uniting against, on the other hand? Well, that's entirely more likely scenario.

True, but only the Rey movie potentially qualifies for that. No other SW shows are in the planning or production. And the Rey movie got sidelined for the Mando movie. This show has been in production for so long we even doubted it would ever get made.
I doubt Disney will pour this much money in another Star Wars project again (mostly because the company overall does seem to be running out of money). As such it would qualify as a last gasp attempt.
I'm sure the WIDER AUDIENCE will save Disney any minute now. Any minute now. At some point in the coming years....

Shit I actually forgot they made it a full blown religion. What ended up happening was Disney started making the show when it was hip and cool to be an activist with no writing experience then before they released the show the American people, decided that this way of thinking was ass. However disney, which has been working on this show for years has been stuck with a shity product that has been doing terribly to the point where Disney stock has been at an all-time low, they are doing worse now than they did during the economic crisis of 2008.
it legitimately makes no sense how anyone could think that they're making some 5D chess move like they can somehow see ahead of everybody. The bottom line is Disney is losing a lot of money, because their fan base that they pissed off, isn't spending their money on their shity product. They are instead going back to what people like, a simple story of the hero defeating the villain, not hey you are this person and we hate you for that so we're just going to drill it in your head that you're awful until you buy our product then call you horrible names in order to guilt you into buying our product because we can't bother putting in any effort into writing a good storyline. They want to call it Sexes but the alien franchise is literally about a strong woman who has been shown to be more competent than the men in the movies that is well written. They did not make Star Wars a "girl brand". they have done nothing to attract a female audience, putting females in a show does not make it a female show that females want to watch. if they wanted to make it a girl brand they would have to do a way better job with character development. the men alone in the show are pathetic and unattractive from personality stand point. I would say it is more accurate to say that they made it a "modern audience brand".

So, tl;dr version: Disney wanted to replace the Star Wars audience with the Twilight/50 Shades audience. They couldn't achieve this.
If you read my comment above about the books, that's exactly what they did. They shelved all the male written Old Republic books and replaced them with this new female written High Republic books (which the acolyte is a part of) trying to get those Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games female readers who were out there with nothing to read. It was a huge market...
They couldn't because they'd have to show men with some backbone, testosterone, and general love/lust enough to make a romance story revolving around them, their sheer hate of us won't allow that. They couldn't even make an entire cult of lesbians hot, and that's EASY, of course they had NO chance with men.
@@harryedwards4080AHH yes the romance fantasy in a sect well known to not be allowed to grow attached to anyone, and the female protag must be able to beat every man in the story effortlessly (mentally and physically, so no attraction for their prowess and there) and the pressure for the romance to be LGBT cuts out 90% of romance readers... the magic fantasy in the far future which could work but the lifeforms in the star wars galaxy have like a 5:1 ratio of being vicious to cute, also the setting being based around conflicts between people than the whimsy of a well explored galaxy... Then, the rebellion fantasy in a time period where the ones ruling the galaxy are meant to be the undisputed good guys...
I'm sorry, what part of the high republic was meant to appeal to these writers I would say the harry potter crowd the most but that audience was both females and males and Disney don't want the latter anymore... Except when they don't buy the product and it becomes their fault why a show fails.

The thing is, it was never in question if the Jedi were flawed, even in the Clone Wars series, Revenge of the Sith, and original Expanded Universe material...it was abundantly clear that the Jedi had flaws.
All this series did was try to drive down the same dark road...with the grace of a rage filled drunk.
The jedi have flaws, but are generally a force for good. Too much new star wars has just been characters acting like sith and not being called out for it

@@creed8712 That was the entire point of the Jedi. They were supposed to prevent stuff like that from happening. Normally they're pretty good at that but usually when they fail, it tends to mean something bigger is going on behind the scenes.
In this case they failed because of Sith Involvement which is why they were so troubled about the whole thing and discussing what was troubling them quietly during Qui-gon's funeral.
Ironically Obi-wan was a child soldier but he'd left the Jedi Order for that during the MelindaDaan conflict.
We could have had the entire Yuzhan Vong finished by now, and perhaps, even Darth Krayt.

At the very least it is generally accepted as a fresh, ambitious idea from within the Star Wars setting trying to deal with some staleness that had developed in the writing circles born of love with difficult execution. That is far, far more than can be said of Kenobi, Acolyte, Aftermath, Rise of Skywalker, Last Jedi, etc. The books of DisCan are even worse than the shows half the time. Aftermath is a whole fresh Hell every time I look at it

She didn’t deconstruct the Jedi but offered another perspective. Which is more interesting and requires better writing.

When deconstruction is done right it can be really good, KOTOR 2, Deep space nine, even helldivers to an extent (playing up super earth as a horrific totalitarian regime, then making the enemies legitimately worse is a very fun deconstruction of standard 'authoritarian bad' media)

As a straight dude, my guess is it's the lean, toned, soft voice aesthetic that draw women to him. Let's not kid ourselves here: Manny Jacinto worked out enough to get some well-defined pecs, biceps and (probably) abs for the role if nothing else.
Maybe his slight build makes him look a little less intimidating than the traditional barrel-chested, strong jaw machismo look and therefore more approachable? This show is targeted toward cat ladies and wine moms, so that's the only explanation I can come up with.

The idea of replacing the fans is easily the most braindead thing you could envision for an IP.
Without a doubt the existing fanbase is by itself the sole element from which the value of the IP is derived in the first place. Nothing could be more stupid than pursuing a project to eliminate the heart of the IP's market value. What kind of insane do you need to be to think that the property could gain value by first erasing all of its value.
This was never going to work. Replacing your old audience with a new one is always a gamble but with a sci-fi property like Star Wars you are not going to get those wine aunt cat ladies interested. And certainly not with the High Republic. Normally books, comics, and other materials would be a proving ground inf there was interest in a property. But the fact that the 30 year old Thrawn books are outselling them was proof enough. They had enough research to know that nobody cared about this era and they foolishly went ahead with it anyway. Hell we still have that Star Wars Eclipse game that is also suppose to be in this same era but that thing isn't due out till 2027 at the earliest. They wanted the High Republic to be the next era of Star Wars just as the Old Republic managed to carve out its own section in the fandom. And they failed miserably.
I must admit that it is impressive what Disney has accomplished with star wars. For twelve years we've had Rey Palpatine, beating jedi, sith, her grandpa, made it all irrelevant without much effort on her part. Han Solo, who was an orphan, hence the name solo, the millennium falcon has a droid rights activist as the ships ai, Lando Calrisin who cries after his sex bot is blown apart. Boba Fett, who doesn't really do much bounty hunting, Obi wan, reduced to a glorified babysitter for little Leia, yes, let's not forget the hiding of Leia in a oversized coat. The various strong, independent women who are somehow more evil than the sith themselves. Now the acolyte, bumbling drunkenly around from one abysmal scene to the next, with the woodchipper looking more friendlier by the second. Truly, a work of art, of utter destruction.

It's going to take a "Game of Thrones" level of everything to even remotely get the fans to be interested in Star Wars again. And Disney isn't interested in that. I think the people have spoken that Disney as we knew it, is going to die. And there isn't a thing they can do about it. Then again it may take years, perhaps decades to win the hearts of the fans again.
Ah, but they were successful in replacing the audience! They went from a passionate audience willing to spend money on both entertainment and collectibles, to empty theater seats, cancelled D+ subscriptions, and activists who spend no money. Five out of five stars for getting the audience they were aiming for, 0 out of five stars for business acumen.
Knowing them despite hitting the bottom, they'll just bring out the shovels.

Nah, as bad as DB Evolution was, at least it was funny to riff on. It's also a one and done failure of a movie that had no real effect on the rest of Dragon Ball as a whole. The Acolyte went on for 8 episodes, and is part of Disney's shitty new Star Wars, which is basically doing everything it can to destroy the Star Wars universe.

All of the media companies are in an uproar. Every single gambit has failed. All the excess revenue that they had on hand spent and wasted on DEI. The returns are hollow, the people they panned to don't even care for the product that's been produced, and the people they need the money from (the fans) is drying up. All of this leaves them gobsmacked over how much money they've wasted. Now the terror grips them tightly. So tightly in fact they are now relying on old sources of revenue (ads) for their subscription based services which panned themselves on having no commercials or ads. So now too their subscription services falter. Almost sounds like a grand narrative for an epic story about a faltering leviathan if it wasn't happening before our very eyes. Is the push over? No there are still battles to fight, in the last disparate days of this woke empire. In the end it will all come crashing down. Leaving only ash in their mouths. Another empire which failed to stand the test of time.
Disney business model:
1. Buy a franchise with 10's of millions of die hard lifelong dedicated fans.
2. Retool the franchise to attack and belittle the fans and appeal to a smaller group of the population that is a tiny fraction of the size of the original fan base.
3. Scratch your head wondering why viewing numbers are in the toilet and the franchise is bleeding money.
4. Find another franchise and repeat from step 1.

The thing is that for Disney, this is all just a drop in the bucket. To put it in perspective: in 2023, Disney revenue was $88.9 BILLION dollars (source: google) while for example the loss on The Marvels is estimated at $237 million dollars, or 1/2400th of their revenue. The losses from The Acolyte is a small price to pay for all the publicity and merch sales (the Smilo Ren helmet is somehow actually sold out from Hasbro and the Mos Eisley Cantina playset from Haslab has somehow actually reached its minimum funding goal...). They are not going to stop because for them, there is no need to stop. MCU - for example - only got the hint and retreated after hitting 1 BILLION in losses from Echo, Ant Man 3, and The Marvels.
Lucasfilm will not learn until the losses become unimaginable.
Oh, Disney can go lower than this -- the question is "will they?" If they really wanted to, they could make a side story about Vader "exploring his feminine side", or what really happened between Luke and Han on that chilly night alone on Hoth, or try to answer the question "does making it with a Wookie make you a furry?" Yeah, Disney could go a lot LOT lower if they really wanted to.
Remember when Star Wars used to be a money printing machine? Now the most successful licensed toy line in history is basically dead outside of Lego.
I've found it funny that some of the biggest lore channels have been fine with changes before basically gone "Yeah this is bad"
