- Am I really uploading a video from 2008? Yep, looks like I'm uploading a video from 2008 - less than four years before my channel of oh-so-ancient retro VHS recordings started. Back then, my limit was 'mid-90s', which I soon stretched to 'before 2000', and then about five years later, I added another five years. Now I'm at the point where I just say that if it's on tape, it's fair game. Realistically, uploading something from 2008 today is the same as uploading something from 1996 when I began. Sigh.
Anyway, Jetix. Successor to Fox Kids in the UK, and here we have loads of idents, promos, and ads around episodes of Power Rangers, with the latter part coming from the Totally Ninja Easter themed season thing (sponsored by Ninja Reflex on the Wii and DS, which I bet was ace and not at all overpriced shovelware that capitalised on novelty controls). Promos include those for Dinosaur King and Transformers, while amongst the ads you'll find Doctor Who cards, the eternally-present Lego, musical toothbrushes, Phlat Balls (imagine asking a shop assistant if they had any), ZeeBeez, and PG Tips featuring Al (a.k.a. Johnny Vegas) and Monkey from the ITV Digital campaign. Also plenty of insurance, debt rearrangement services, and driving instructor instructors, which the kids all love.
The big films of the day seemed to be The Spiderwick Chronicles (which gets both McDonald's and video game tie-ins), Horton Hears a Who, and merchandise for Cars is still a thing. Phantom Hourglass also makes a welcome appearance. Watching this back, I should mention that there are quite a few duplicates which I probably ought to have put a bit of effort into pruning, but never mind. Have fun, and don't forget to visit the website and enter the Skechers competitions.
Many thanks to @David315842 for sending me this tape.
(If you're a copyright holder and have any objections, please feel free to contact me. Alternatively, I haven't monetised the video, so you're welcome to do so, and that way everybody wins.) - Zábava
I love when a cartoon or a show, voiced, or filmed specific advert content for channels. It seems like something that isn't done much anymore.
Yeah, I liked that as well - it always felt like bonus content rather than an actual ad.
9:22 "The wonderful sound of- [GUNSHOTS]"
Ah yes, nothing like traumatising the children with guns like advertising to the wrong crowd.
Jetix's target audience is kids around 8 and up, they would think that they would have learnt what a gun is by now. Besides the advert has people only using hunting rifles, of which in the UK you need to have a license to have and for the purpose of the advert, they are probably only prop guns that fire blanks. Anyway saying that, I doubt a child would be too interested in a car insurance commercial. :D
It's a weird ad all round, really. Every part of it comes from an odd angle.
@@VideotapeFTW It;s just not really the same without Joanna Lumley.
Jetix US is the cause of Disney's Marvel.
I forgot that my tapes were as recent as 2008. That Ninja Reflex game was a perfect example of Wii/DS shovel ware indeed. :D I completely forgot about some of these like the Bullboys dog and Legoland's Heroes Wanted campaign. Since Cars came out the previous year, they would still be toys based on it, plus it was very popular and it gained two sequels, so Cars merch still exists even now as a result. I don't mind the repetition seen here, it's just how these TV channels worked, plus like always it jumps back and forth between the regular and +1 variants of this channel. Thanks again ever so much for uploading this. :)
Thank you again for the tape! Is 2008 as late as they get? It does feel a little surreal to be uploading things so close to when my channel started. (Not that I'm complaining, of course.)
@@VideotapeFTW I have no idea? But if I were to guess maybe it was around 2010 that I retired from recording stuff regularly on VHS, but I can't really say for sure.
I think my personal record is that I once transferred a tape for someone from 2016. Each to their own, I suppose. :-)
@@VideotapeFTW Oh I imagine people still used VHS tapes for a long while after I stopped using them regularly. :D
Within a year and a half, Jetix became Disney XD in the UK, whereas the Jetix branding was retired in the US by February 2009 interesting how Jetix was fully owned by Disney yet they had ads but Disney Channel UK didnt start including ads until years later
As far as I'm aware the main Disney Channels never used ads. Jetix was owned by Disney, but it was more public owned as well, usually by another company, in this case Sky Television, that's why they needed to use advertisements, especially since the original Fox Kids did that and Sky was still investing more in this channel.
@@David315842 I'm surprised Sky still invested in Jetix's advertising. Was there any documents to back this up?
Got a question for you guys, were they still airing Shin-Chan at this point?
Not trying to annoy you but why did you skip the now bumper for pucca at 25:58. I guess is that the bumper got tape over before it played the whole thing?
Yeah, the recording was stopped and then restarted, so this is all that was on the tape. Sorry about that.
@@VideotapeFTW Oh, thanks for letting me know about that.
@@theorangetoad5669 I didn't watch Pucca.
I wonder if you have found any CITV recordings from 2008-2011, notably Emu, I wonder if you will try look for some Emu episodes that aren’t on CZcams yet?
I haven't found any, but I've heard a rumour - only the vaguest rumour on the grapevine, with absolutely nothing to back it up, mind - that the guy who runs The Sooteries Channel may have some Toby Hull episodes of Emu. I haven't got round to asking him yet, but feel free if you want to.
I also tried contacting Initial and unfortantly there still stored in Master Tapes, and they couldn’t be offered to me. I hope there is also someone else that recorded Emu as well as the TSC as he only recorded 8 episodes. I wonder if you can ask around to any others. We need to set up a campaign to find all the remaining missing episodes. If you have found a 2008 tape of Jetix and to find any other 2000s shows, we hopefully could find episodes of Emu.
@@mathgoodison8096 Yeah, I'm still on the lookout for all Emu material, whether Rod or Toby, but there haven't been any new leads for years, besides TSC. That's a pity about Initial not being able to help. I find it difficult to believe there are no digital copies of Toby's Emu sitting on a hard drive somewhere, considering they were broadcast into the 2010s. If they really are only stored on tape, that's not great news.
@@VideotapeFTW Wish it was broadcasted on BBC, then all the episodes would be found, my advice: ask around for others that recorded any CITV between 2009 and 2011 either on a DVR, or ask those that you know recorded any VHS tapes from that era. Together, we will find those remaining missing episodes of Toby Hull era of Emu, whether it means trying harder!
P.S I have also made a lost media wiki and a post on Reddit about it, I wonder if you could help to grab more attention.
@@mathgoodison8096 Yeah, I'll try and get the word out one way or another. Believe me, I _have_ been looking for all Rod/Emu/Grotbags-related content, including Toby's series.
