    I shot this trip using the Cannon 7D still camera in full res HD video mode, mostly using a Cannon ESF 17-55 IS lens. The Cannon allowed me to travel light and hit HDR stills as well. I also had a Sennheiser pin mic under my headphone for audio. I edit using Sony Vegas, which I like because it started as a music program. I use it for editing and original music underscore. The air to air was shot from a Mooney J, with the baggage door off. Fun gig!

    • @edwardsp1916
      @edwardsp1916 Před 4 lety

      Robert Merkle The incident occurred because the aircraft was flown in a side slip condition for too long. The engine was starved of fuel. I wonder if the report has been updated as it states the engine would of kept running if the pilot returned coordinate flight sooner.

    I'm also surpised that, judging by the Hobbs meter, Daher Socata didn't do a local test flight around Tarbes, France prior to the transatlantic flight.

  • @CraigPeyton_EarthFlight
    @CraigPeyton_EarthFlight  Před 11 lety +4

    That is a very hard shot. I used my 7d with auto ISO for low light, and use a tiny mic under my headphone, so I don't pick up audio bus noise. That said, the cannon is weak in audio, and sometimes helps to have a second recorder.

      @@CraigPeyton_EarthFlight I know or used to know in Canadian aviation rules ,if you gotta fly over large bodies of water ( over 50/100 miles) you must have a multi engine rated licence and have twin engine aircraft! Single engine not permitted therefore no valid insurance if the plane were ever forced to ditch in the ocean!

      @grahamarnott7924 Před 10 lety +4

      You will need an instrument rating as a very minimum because you will no longer be flying VFR. You'd be a fool to try without experience, a night rating and special ditching/safety training though.

    That takes a lot of courage to do a trans-atlantic flight with a single engine plane, because if you lose the engine, your a dead mother period, even if you survive the ditch, your in the middle of the freezing atlantic and it could take a while for them to find you if your transponder malfuntions as well!! I am just chicken shit of trans atlantic flights period. I'm a pilot and it bothers me and especially w/ a new plane that had 0 time on it. I love the 850 and pc-12 but going over the ocean?

  • @planespotting7701
    @planespotting7701 Před 10 lety

    They can't do this because even though the TBM is doing well as far as speed is regarded, payload is not great and overall performance is very lacking. Cabin noise is very high and although it is a fine aircraft, it could be better in almost every respect. Maybe their new TBM Century will perform better, it is said to have much m ore engine power, composite parts which would help with weight, and winglets which will help overall performance.. We are supposed to see it in early 2014.. Let's see.
