  • At first, Carla didn't want this macaw, but now Mango follows her like a pup. She helps Carla with washing dishes and cooking, and they even take naps together. But Carla would have never expected that, as getting Mango was not her choice.

I think it’s so neat how he could almost foresee his leaving for her to have a companion.. My husband passed in 2018 and I would be so grateful for him thinking ahead like this. We are not promised tomorrow so live in that moment..

ironically it seems he did it to give him a coping option if his wife passed, rather than the other way around & she had no interest in HIS bird that was meant to replace her, but it is beautiful imo that both these beings that loved the same person managed to find love in each other after he was gone :)

agreed! Just this morning I was lifting up the cover on my bird's cage & it was wet, was trying to figure out how, while in the dark (cause my birds are hormonal & I've found if I take their cover off while the curtains are closed/lights out & leave them like that for about half an hour for a slow wake up, it helps their hormones), anyway I realised my hands were covered in wet, sticky lorikeet sugar poo. Girl had obviously woken up early & come out to her perch just outside the door, still under the cover, so as to poo all over the cover before returning to bed. ah birbs!

That's awesome! What kind of Cockatoo? I was supposed to foster a Goffin Cockatoo for a week until he went to a friend that was helping find a home for him. Here I am, 4 months later, and he is a permanent part of my family lol.❤

@@ArmyForTheAnimals He's an umbrella cockatoo. Goffins are really cool my bird came to the rescue with a female Goffin. I felt so bad for him he just looked lost and was pulling out his feathers. But as soon as I got him home he turned into the sweetest guy. He kind of bonded to one of my chihuahuas and I think I got a pinky and the brain situation going. They always look like there plotting something terrible.🤣

It's so sad they do that when they are unhappy. My Goffin is def a cuddle bug and sweet too. He loves people. I guess the don't call cockatoos "velcro birds" for nothing lol. 😝

Sometimes I think these sorts of unwanted parrots end up the best pets, due to owners not really caring if they lose them & so being willing to take them outside & by the time they decide they do want them, they feel comfortable continuing to have them outside.
I planned on soft releasing the pet rescue birds I got & so was happy to leave their cage open outside, but over time it became apparent there was no way they could ever be wild, due to their abuse history, so they're mine for life, but I'm able to take their cage outside, with open doors & let them interact with the wild birds for enrichment, without really worrying about them flying off.
All that said, please don't do this with birds that are not native to the area you are in, please take them to a shelter so they can go to a home with someone that loves them, rather than just flying off & dying, or breeding as feral birds & displacing native species & if you have a bird native to your area & want to return it to the wild, the best option is to give it to a local wildlife rescue, or see if national parks or other authorities in your area have programs where they do this professionally. I have a wildlife rescue background, so am trained in how to soft release birds so they have an easy & successful progression into living wild.
Basic steps if you want to do it yourself,
    - bird outside in it's cage, let it communicate with wild, local birds of it's species
    - once bird is communicating with local birds & building bonds with them, put food on the outside of it's cage to bring local birds down to it, watch interactions, ensure they are positive
    - find a space to fly your bird to build up wing muscle & stamina, close all curtains if doing in rooms with windows & remove other hazards
    - teach your bird to forage, collect a wide range of locally available foods that it will eat after release & present them in the same way it will find them in the wild, present water in a range of naturally found ways too
    - once all the above is done & bird is ready to join it's new local family that it has bonded with, open the cage door, making sure there are perches near the door it can come & go from & allow it to come out of the cage to directly interact with wild birds while they are feeding near the cage, while continuing to offer better foods inside the cage. Bird should begin going for short flys with it's new friends & then returning either to go into the cage, or to eat outside the cage with it's new family & living with them the rest of the time.
    - continue feeding the wild bird family & your bird for a number of weeks, monitor your bird's condition, make sure it's doing ok & if it is, you can gradually reduce the food you provide for all of them until your bird is independent, or if you prefer, continue feeding a little food (not too much) so as to continue to see your bird, now living wild
    - ideally though you have a professional do all the above, as they know what to look for to indicate the bird is ready for each step
& if you accidentally lose your bird outside, best option is to already have recordings of birds of it's species doing "contact calls", that you have tested & know your bird responds to & if your bird does fly off, get these recordings & play them & your bird should respond, letting you know where it is & you can figure out how to get it back from there. My boy's been startled & flown off at dusk a couple of times & had the night outside, come morning, my girl has been too cold & not wanted to call because of that, but having recordings of her already ready to go, I can just play them to find where my boy is & then take their cage to that location & he will fly straight back to it when he sees it, knowing it VERY well from the outside, due to spending so much time on the outside of it inside my home

Hey, especially parrots need a parrot partner. Otherwise they never can communicate in their own language and life their natual behavior. Soo sad, and additionally clipped wings... what about fly-training? Im sorry but this is just an egotrip of humans. Imagin you are living with titans you will never understand correctly and then they cut some muscles or your legs that you couldnt run away. Your social life and need depends on titans

    • @mehere8038
      @mehere8038 Před 7 měsíci

yes parrots should be raised with another parrot of the same species from babyhood, it causes problems for them emotionally when they are not. That is a different thing to the situation in this video though, where this parrot has been denied that, it's difficult to know if it would accept a parrot companion or not. My rescue boy was hand raised by humans & doesn't understand how to interact with others of his species, which causes major problems in his relationship with his/my girl, he loved her very much, but keeps triggering her hormones, then running away to try to mate with me instead of her, which them causes her to get distressed & bite him & scream at him over it & then pluck herself. He would probably be happier living on his own with just tv birds as companions.
As for clipping, there's no signs I can see that this bird is clipped. The wife simply didn't care if he flew off & so let him out, but he chose to stay. If you can see signs this bird is clipped, can you please give me a time stamp on where, cause I didn't see it
