I live in a rural area with a diverse wildlife population. While I share my garden veggies, put out dear mineral block, have bird feeders and apple trees... I've never had any, other than opossum, come up on decks or porch.
This woman is truly blessed to have such great friends who stop by and see her often.

I've been feeding generations of squirrels and the only progress that I've made is instead of running away full speed when I open the back door, now they'll stroll away.
But the opussum is very happy to have you
some of these stories are about peoples rescues or farms and they turn them into little entertainment stories..the real wild ones seems are the ground hogs..you can tell becaus ethis is not heard of ever and you even have experience..

From little chipmunks to huge deer and everything in between. Squirrel feeder, then 2 now 5. 1 feeder is just a flat tray for easy access.

I'm going to be the unpopular guy here...If she was "Treating them well" she wouldn't be feeding them. That's like the number one rule of interacting with wild life.

Thank you for feeding them nutritious food.In my country, people feed Marmots chips and biscuits with obvious disregard for their well being. It is so heart wrenching.
Not really..they only live 2-3 years a couple cookies isn't going to send them off the deep end...
I've seen the touristy vids, in the mountains. I too wondered if they couldn't bring healthy snacks. The shops sell the biscuits, so I wondered if they were ok. Even a short life, they would appreciate something more for "them". I'd ask around and find something else, maybe shops could take notice. To love wildlife, people can/should be more mindful. I love Marmots, chubby little wonders. They seem more likely to be friendly than some wildlife. TY
I think it's just about lack of education. Many people feed mallards with bread, when they should get seeds or peas instead.
Mama went and told all of her forest friends about the nice lady with the goodies.

I started feeding birds in my backyard. Now, I have raccoons, squirrels, stray cats, and opossums coming over. From 7:30 am to 10:00 pm I'm a short order cook. I bought a kiddie pool for the bigger animals. Bird bath for smaller ones. So they can always have water. I wouldn't trade it for anything. ❤

We have a groundhog who likes to swim in our inground pool every summer. He dives in the deep end, swims to the shallow end and walks up the stairs and gets out. Wish I could get it on video because it’s so cute!!

My mom always fed the wildlife to the consternation of the neighborhood. We had groundhogs, squirrels, opossums, raccoons, birds. It was glorious. It was such a blessing to see this story in my feed today. May God bless this woman richly.
I many years ago had a wild bunny that came when I called. He would run down the hill and wait for me to toss him some bread, nuts, or fruit. It was so much fun to watch and incredibly special. I have never gotten any squirrels or chipmunks, though.

I swear wild animals have an inter-species communication system. You start feeding one, and then the word spreads ... and before you know, you end up spending 500 bucks a month to feed an entire forest section, lol. It's among the best things that can happen to you, having truly wild creatures come to your garden, so you can enjoy observing them.

She is a proper Disney Princess hahaha... I have Red Squirrels, Robins and a myriad of other small feathered friends that visit our house, they know where the good stuff is....
When my cat got sick and only wanted to lay in the huge bay window and look out... I set up bird feeders for him to watch.. like cat TV. Him and I would watch them for hours. He has since passed but I still watch and miss him.
It not only attracts birds tho ... I get to watch squirrels, skunks, raccoons, mice, opossums etc stop by... but not once have I got them to stay close if I go outside with extra goodies like this woman. I'm kinda jealous.lolol

I know first hand...once word gets out that there's a new restaurant that opened in the neighborhood, they all start showing up...day shift and the night shift...gets expensive but I can't say "no", esp. in the winter months🤭.
No mention of the deer ? They sem to have spoken with the other animals and have joined in the serenity of the yard. ❤
This is great. I envy you. I surprised you don't have a nosy Karen in the neighborhood complaining about your kindness to animals.
The Karen neighbor happened to me. A mama raccoon was eating food I left out for stray cats. The cats have been TNR'd but I don't know where they came from and they run away if people approach them. I did some research on raccoon diseases and signs to look for. She seems old for a raccoon and every year she has 2-5 babies to nurse and teach to find food. It didn't bother me that they came by to see if the cats had food left. The neighbor was very unhappy because his wife saw one very early one morning in her yard and it didn't run away. I don't know what they think will happen. It makes me sad that people don't realize that we have to SHARE space and resources with animals. A bear made a den about half a mile away last summer and I'm really surprised they haven't complained about that yet.

Animal friends are the best friends. I have lots of possums that come to my deck to eat.
What a pleasure to watch all the critters in the doorstep. My critters are squirrels, Flocking birds and Quail. All are getting fat for the winter. Probably my favorite is Poof, a squirrel with the most luxurious tail I ever saw that he wraps around his neck like a boa. Having those guys in my life, it’s a great pleasure. I love it when they come up to the sliding glass doors in my bedroom and my kitchen and sit up looking around for me. Of course I jump out of bed and go out to feed them

I do the same thing…but they don’t eat right out of my hand. I feed them from a second floor balcony! And there is at least one Groundhog living behind a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop near me where I also put out bird seed…but he gets the excess doughnuts from around the dumpsters…and boy is he a chunky monkey! But you must have a very special and trusting group of animals around your home! Maybe you are Cinderella! Either way you must feel very special. Urban animals are usually very smart, especially groundhogs. I bet the neighbourhood critters saw that the groundhogs trusted this kind woman and followed them over. Then the word was out......safe place to hang out and get some snacks!! That lady has a lovely heart. ❤
