After winning the wooden spoon in 1972, Round 1 of 1973 saw us defeating Hawthorn at Arden st. to begin our rise to power. Fitting that a full 3 seasons later we would again beat Hawthorn to win our first Premiership. What a fantastic day to have been a part of. I was not far off 12 years old and have several great memories of that famous victory but the one that has always stuck with me the most is Johnny Burns's 4 goals in the first half. He set us up to win that game and the very solid slap on the arse he gives Slammin' Sam,as the big fella was jogging back to the centre after having kicked a goal in the third quarter,says it all.We were never gonna lose.
My Aunt had recently started going out with a Nth supporter and he'd won the hearts of my sister's and l when he took us to the Show. I remember being at my grandmother's on GF night and I'll never forget the look of joy on my soon-to-be uncle's face when he arrived.
in the 1978 Second Semi Final Leigh Matthews should have been reported, oh well such is life,, at least we won our first against them

Was and still am a Hawks fan and 1975 was first GF I ever went to and I was bitterly disappointed.
But 1976 and 1978 made up for it.
Hawks won 3 GFs in the 70's.
