WoW Ablett tried to knock out every one he could with his elbows . I'm a pies fan
He was EVIL with his arms. Just savage with those elbows.
Dennis and Sandy 😍👌🤩
Absolute pioneers of AFL

Amazing watching these old games, shows how different the game is nowadays. Roo is a bloody legend, absolute beast in his day.
I was there, great memories.
The first half of the 1992 Grand Final was amazing.
Sadly the Cats never went the whole 4 Quarters and this was the same thing in the Semi Final back 2 weeks earlier.
Really a missed opportunity for Geelong as this was their best chance to a Premiership considering how one sided the 94 and 95 Grand Finals were and even in 89, Geelong had to come from 6 goals behind at 3/4 time only to be within 6 points in the final 40 seconds of the game.
Yeah, but they didn't. They lost. Several times. It took them until almost the second decade of the new millennium to finally win a flag.
Because they had the same tactic of 'play the man and not the ball early'. Costs you on the scoreboard. Abkett was a sniper.
30:45 - Nice dive from Ablett
33 years later and I still wince when Sumich gets the ball
First time a non-Victorian team won
Hilarious that Brett Heady gets knocked out and then comes back on the ground in the same quarter
That was Don Pyke.
1:05 oh now I remember why I started hating Gary Ablett. Very bloody dirty player. Sure he had skills, but he also played dirty. Ablett senior, Barry Hall and Hayden Valentine ought to be best mates lol a lot in common.
The first quarter contained so many loose elbows flying around from Geelong players, no wonder West Coast took so long to get scores on the board.... they needed eyes in the back of their heads while going for marks.
The Geel-y wobbles
Those were the days. When we'd win a flag, we'd have it done and dusted with at least 10 minutes to go. You could soak it up and enjoy it.
Not like our last 2...
Ah well I bet you were thrilled when the final siren went
@@sliat1981
Yeah. I ran down the street in celebration both times as soon as the siren went.
One day someday again mate, one day!
How Peter Wilson didn't win a Sandover Medal or Brownlow for sheer grit is beyond me...I suppose ya do have to get more of the ball
💙
Ablett's hit on Pike shows what a weak coward he was.
Anger issues buddy?
@@pivotal1980 Yep, Ablett sure did have anger issues.
@@Mustardonmyjeans he wasn't alone back then
Yeah Ablett could play but he was a dirty player
Did worse to Alisha Horan. Or DIDN'T do, depending on your point of view.
10:30 Any modern-day player would run out, open the angle and score a goal 90% of the time. A hard drop punt is probably the lowest percentage choice. No margin for error whatsoever.
And a 5-goal margin early in the second term would have put genuine fear into West Coast. This Geelong team was tragically flawed, but they could pile on a lot of goals in quick succession.
That Geelong team also had the misfortune of playing against some insanely good football teams in their Grand Finals. Hawks '89, Eagles '92 and '94, Blues '95.
Had the exact same shot from the same position same spot same goals in the ‘89 GF and also missed with the same kick.
It was never 5 goals. It was 4
@@mabiorcholappreciationpage Geelong were first on the ladder in '92 against a 4th place eagles, '94 yeah there wasn't a chance, Geelong finished 2nd in '95 and was pretty neck and neck with carlton
Yeah pretty brainless to try and send the ball into orbit from that angle.
Greatest day ever.
Could have bet the farm.
Eagles fitter.
You get chocolates or boiled lollies when we play in a GF. Most likely chocolates.
The 90's absolutely sucked as a Geelong fan.
Ablett Snr...what a gutless player. Elbows a bloke behind play. Typical Cats GF tactic. Go the man early...see if we can win it once we've knocked the other blokes out...Did it ever work?
Geez the Eagles really loved the roids back then. In the early 2000's they loved the meth. Now they seem to enjoy the pain of defeat.
The more I watch the old days the more it is proven that Ablett was a sniper and in my opinion over-rated...don't care if you disagree but Jnr was 3 times the player his father was...
Ablett Snr was a good player, no doubt, but he took his opponents out with gutless elbows, swinging arms etc when they weren't looking. He never won a flag and that pleases me greatly.
Back then no drugs at west coast and cheating west Aussie umpire this was western Australian (state team) v Geelong
salty pricktorian lol
Grow up halfwit if that is a state team then the cats are all Australian hand picked players from around Australia. The cats didn't win a flag until Steven dank and his drugs came to the cats. And don't forget bomber Thomson your coach convicted of drugs. If you live in a glass house don't throw stones mate
Underachievers should have won more flags with that state side. Malthouse is overrated as a coach.
Don't underestimate the travel schedule in 1990 and 1991. Nobody has a schedule like that nowadays. The Eagles finished on top in 91 and flew to Waverly 3 weeks in a row.
in 1990 it was four times with flights to Geelong and Carrara directly before the finals. 6 interstate flights in a row. Any wonder they ran out of steam.
I'd say it was a pass mark but I'd agree Malthouse is overrated. So is Sheedy, he was great for the game but both of these guys get lauded but their records don't back it up.
