  • Who will become the next Commission president? The next Council president? And the next High Representative of Foreign Affairs and security Policy? All of these top jobs are currently in discussion by the big EU parties EPP, S&D and Renew. Crucially, the far right (ECR, I&D) parties have been left out, which might create porblems going forward.

Also if you consider the non-aligned Right wing parties number will exceed 200. So, the mathematics says most of the Europeans chose Center-right to Right groups compared to S&D.
Addition: Europeans also have shown trust on EPP by making them largest. So, teaming up with S&D might make most of the voters feel betrayed and further disappointed. Costa for EU council president would be a disgrace. He resigned as portuguese prime-minister following a corruption scandal involving his right-hand man and best friend taking place right under his nose. During his time as PM, Portugal oversaw unchecked waves of immigration that have irreparably changed the social fabric of the country and portuguese citizens never had so little purchasing power since adhering to the euro.

Mega-coalition still holding over 400 seats. Nothing really changed. I hope that at least there are some developments to the right of the EPP, we will see if ECR and ID remain the dominant groups, which national parties will be part of them and which one of the two the mostly right wing new MEPs will join, if they join any at all.

They should go more left. The EPP spend 300 billion of EU funds in 5 years to agriculture and the second biggest expense was anti-immigration deals with African nations. The Tunesia deal was a far right deal with Meloni and von der Leyen, also a new immigration pact was signed. They shot down every left policy when farmers protested. I don't know how you can do even more for the far right than they were already doing.

@@Joey-ct8bm So they pushed the brakes just a little bit (because people got mad and started protesting) on the flooding of Europe by illegal migrants and didn't allow for European agriculture to completely collapse (just yet).
Wow so far right. Slowing down a bit the far left transformation of Europe.
I know you lefties can't wait untill Europe becomes 3rd world where people have to steal food to survive and live in tents cause housing is too expensive (be patient I guess?).
For the record I'm mad at the migration pact as well. Migrants need to be deported not relocated further into EU against the will of sovereign nations.
Far left is getting insulent these days, calling EPP of all the blocks "far right".

The problem with the nationalistic parties is that if they are truly nationalistic, they won’t be able to make deals with other nationalists. Italian nationalist bash the French, the French bash the Germans, the Hungarians actually claim the land of the Romanians and Slovaks etc. So it’s not really clear how they are going to be able to govern together. And it’s quite probable they will just turn everything into chaos.
Which is also why Putin/Russia supports them, financially and through hybrid operations (together with the far left parties). They want to see Europe infighting and unable to act; together, Europe is much stronger than Russia, but individually, most if not all states are weaker than Russia, so Russian policy is to divide us. They absolutely loved Brexit and arguably played a small but maybe a decisive role in making it happen.
The support from Russia for nationalistic parties also makes you question whether they are indeed “nationalistic” - are you really nationalistic if you just (inadvertently or not) further an agenda of a foreign empire? That’s my biggest problem with the “nationalists” like RN, AfD or Fidesz. Meloni or Polish nationalists at least seems to be really kicking for Italy and Europe, not Russia.
