- Ahead of an expected vote by the European Parliament, candidate for President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen made a final pitch to MEP's. After she gave a forty minute speech (watch it here: • Ursula von der Leyen's... ), each party leader including the Brexit parties Nigel Farage got the chance to respond. After Farage encouraged fellow MEP's to vote against von der Leyen because of concerns she wants to create a Europe wide army, von der Leyen responded by saying “we can probably do without what you have got to say here.”

I think people get much too uptight about her EU Army. When she was the German Minister of Defence, half of their aircraft were out of operation, all of their U-boots were unseaworthy, German troops were being sent on NATO training armed (Heaven help them!) with broom handles. Meanwhile she was busy trying to organize their Army so soldiers wouldn’t have to fight during school half-term breaks! This is not a serious person. She couldn‘t even organize a straightforward vaccination roll-out for Europe - much less plan a war!

But sinc it is not verry practicall to vote between them all at once, its done one after the other. Yust because it's different than your archaic system doesn't mean it's undemocratic.
