It's July 5th today. 🤔
@x-ray3431 It's like sayin' Merry Christmas... 'Tis the season 😁
Where was the part where Audeze played us?
The extra $30 isn't actually an "Xbox" tax, its for the Dolby Atmos license that comes with the Xbox version.
I hope that you got the joke behind it.
It’s clickbait.
May I ask in what cases you need a Dolby Atmos license? Especially for pc gaming
@@gianmarco571 It allows you to turn on the Dolby Atmos setting on Xbox. I'm not sure about PC.
@KID_CHAMELEON it's also a PC option that normally requires a paid license from Dolby but not with the Xbox headphones
I've had mine 3 weeks. They are the singe best purchase I've made in recent memory. I cannot belive how good they sound. I stayed up late my first night with them, listening to my favorite music for what seemed like the first time. Absolutely amazing
I'm wondering how the latency is for gaming compared to wired
@@Karim-ik5ij absolutely none.
@@bmacarthur Do you know how it compares to wired? actually merasured?
Now that was a REVIEW! You gave it a major thumbs up, Thanks Aaron!
Anytime, sir!
They are meant to be used with the usb-c dongle mostly. Did you test with that?
Bluetooth was more of a good to have.
I have had them for more than a year. They are too heavy to be used outdoors. Strictly for around the home imo.
Maxwell came out with a video for the strap, you can mix/match the strap holes you decide to use to dial in the fit ie; right side on the lowest holes, left side on the middle or top holes. Seemed to give more fitment options
@gearuparon These can do bluetooth and 2.4 in parallel ? Cheers!
Are the yokes plastic or metal? I love the sound on my Audeze/HyperX Cloud Orbit S, but I'm sick and tired of plastic welding the hell out of them every time the plastic cracks from clamping force. Soured my overall feeling and went with some Beyerdynamics because they are literally built like a Panzer.
Metal. Overall very solid workmanship!
Hi Aaron - awesome review as always, so glad I found your channel. I purchased the Edifier Stax S3 based on your review and am very curious how you find the Maxwell compares with it, as they apparently share the same driver. Thanks!
Thanks for your support! The Maxwell is more dynamic (better and newer planar mag hardware) and open (cup design), but the S3 is still my daily driver thanks to its lightness, lol. Also, there's the new S5 that I'll hopefully have in my hands in the next day or two, although that's priced at $500 now. Yikes.
Awesome review! I have the Maxwell also but have an issue with volume. They don’t get really loud but I hear a lot of people say they can’t listen about 65%. Just curious how much volume can you get out of your Maxwells?
I just bought mine today and they don’t get loud enough at all I’m coming from the old Astro A50’s I gonna take these Audeze back tomorrow if I can’t figure it out lol
Volume Limiter in Audeze HQ app make sure its not checked. Theres also a driver issue in windows in installs a generic
They sound good, but I've had issues with two units build quality (Early units). I've taken care of them too, always have them on a stand. Have a ticket submitted to customer service currently, but I'm out of warranty..
Sorry to hear that. Two problematic units is quite inexcusable, tbh.
same took good care of mine andthe right side stopped playing audio. i have to RMA it
@@jeiceginyu4595 they outsourced manufacturing and assembly to China and this is the result.. Good luck, dude. Just packaged mine up to send out..
For audio drops, could you togle on.on android developer options the one called "disable a2dp hardware offload”? I had the same issue with my Maxwell using the LDAC codec. This option basically should be toggle on for any advance headphones as they will do the audio processing itself and not by the android phone
Great suggestion. I'll try it and see what happens.
@@gearupaaron please let me know. It my help everyone here as well. Thx for your videos
Great job!!! i enjoyed your review. i will probably end up purchasing these.
Thanks, Jim 🤙 Let us know what you think of it when you get yours!
I just recently got my maxwell headset and my only complaint so far is I’m not super handy with tech and first use I tried joining a discord call while listening to music on CZcams and as soon as I joined a voice channel, the audio from CZcams pauses but the video still played. I had to leave the voice chat to get the audio from CZcams to return, any clue how I’d allow both audios to simultaneously play?
Unless you have a paid CZcams subscription, Google doesn't permit YT to play background video/audio. Probably what's happening here.
@@gearupaaron i don't have a youtube subscription, i think its a priority issue ive only got the headset yesterday so im going to try and fumble around with the software
maxwell don't have simultaneous Bluetooth
The most important question: Is this headset good for detailed single player games? not competitive though. ty
I think I mentioned it in passing in the video - I primarily play single players like you do, so with titles like Battlefield and Forza, audio presentation is fantastic.
@@gearupaaron Thank you for replying
@@_W_74 For that kind of gaming they are awesome, expecialy with Dolby they come to "life" and everything sound very good, mine legit move air through ears with dolby on high volume, gives you that immersive vibe like you are in it. But for comp FPS games, not so much.
@@maxzoRHD Man...... Thank you so much that I was looking for! I don't care to use it on FPS games I just love classic psychological horror games vibes like the ambience kind.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for watching! 👍
When you mention that you prefer 3.5mm over USB-C, do you mean that using a wired connection provides better overall sound quality compared to a wireless connection? Or am I misunderstanding?
I mentioned in the video that Max volume is only 60% as loud on USB-C. Hope that helps.
The background noise was fixed in the latest firmware update.
10:24 name of the led panels in the background please :D they are damn nice
Just about SQ and comfort... How does the Stax (Edifier) S3 compares to the Maxwell?
The Maxwell feels more open and dynamic (S3 has older planar mag setup but still solid), whereas the S3 has superior comfort (lighter and comes with choice of pads). That said, the S5 is coming soon 😉
@@gearupaaron ok thanks, but this does not mean that the S3 is aversge sounding, true? Comfort is always number one, then SQ because without any comfort you cannot enjoy good SQ.
I just got these and right out the box turning them on, I have an extremely loud high pitched static noise. Hurts my ears even with them just sitting on my desk. Downloaded the software & updated firmware for both the dongle and headset to no avail. They even started screeching with side tone turned on. Troubleshooting hasn't helped. Sadly a return for me
I got a TCL that died on me within a year, I still wouldn’t consider them a bad brand because my luck was unfortunate.
@@Kanoog Did not nor am I calling them a bad / low quality brand. I most likely had an unlucky draw from the inventory. I was expressing my disappointment and stating the problem as it was my first impression. I was expecting less of, if any issues. I would also hope for longevity out of a $300 pair of headphones.
Yikes, definitely a defective unit. Audeze really needs to tap into Sony's QC resources to up their quality game. The number of quality problems I've seen from owners is unusually high, especially for something at this price range.
@@gearupaaron I'm really hoping they work on it. I was excited to use them since most of the reviews and videos I've seen have been extremely positive. But now looking at it, most of the negative reviews are from the past couple months :/ I'm probably going to go with another option for now & check back in with these down the line for improvements.
65% volume is loud I use it at 32% I've had no issues going over 80hrs st that volume
Good review! I have these and love them!!
Thanks for sharing... How long have you had yours?
@gearuparon About six to seven months. I did just send them in last week though for an RMA for a little issue, but they've taken care of it and are sending me new ones.
@Nibiru420 Another commenter said he's had two units with issues. Happy to see you got yours quickly resolved.
Hey Aaron, gonna review Melomania P100 over-ears? I've bought M100 in-ears after your video, lol
Yes, the P100 is on its way. Excited to check out 😁 ... How do you like the M100 so far?
@@gearupaaron Well, they have some minor and major-ish quirks, but perfectly cover two important use cases: lipsync video consumption (very good aptX Adaptive implementation) and whole day long music listening. They perfectly complement Jabra Elite 10, which I use for work :)
Audeze maxwell or astro a50x?
For straight up gaming features and maturity, Logitech. Audio quality and battery life, Maxwell.
THEY LIED! Thank you very much! Aaron!
Just shows how solid the planar mag tech was to begin with 😁
I have the Hyper-X version, well did until a few days ago the frame broke. ( Way past warranty)
Now I decided to save some money, and got the Alienware 920H.
Well my Alienware headset is not working with my Alieneare PC.
If I can't fix it by this weekend, it's going back & grab myself the Audeze Maxwell..
Let us know what you end up with - thanks for sharing your experience!
Pls review aune ar5000
Thanks Calvin, great suggestion!
Damn, I knew the Xbox tax actually existed 😢
It's for the Dolby Atmos license.
Lovely review! I personally tried the Blackshark V2s, the Arctis 7 and 9s, the Nova's and finally the Maxwell's, and I don't think I could go back! Another thing that I see alot of reviewers fail to mention is that this headset supports Bluetooth, however, its not simultaneous. Meaning, you can't game on your Xbox and listen to podcast/music on your phone at the same time. Which I believe is one big Achilles heel of this headset.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Do you mean multipoint Bluetooth? Yeah, consoles tend to have their own protocols unlike laptops and mobile devices. Wish device handoffs were better here.
Power On .. USB Dongle Gang!!!!
🤘😁
had mine afew days now and im super satisfied with the sound and quality, only caveat is that the cushions are not thick enough so my ears touch the plastic inside so it hurts after a few hours of using it. oh and if you want big bass rumble then this isnt for you, but the bass is ACCURATE and all the sounds in videogames and music is supreme.
Theres more rumble and bass in lets say the xbox wireless headset for 100$ or whatever it costs nowadays, but overall that headset sounds like garbling shit compared to the maxwell.
not a shill or anything so i advice people who have the same issue to search for thicker earpads for the maxwell.
TLDR:
*maxwell epic sound and soundquality.
*Needs thicker earcups
*no big bass rumble but its accurate
*Do recommend it.
good content and review but a HARD no for the clickbait title. Making it sound like they did something wrong by the customers.
Thanks for watching! The title (and the closing thoughts in the video) comes from the thought that Audeze has always had the tech and means to produce something this competent at this price point, but instead focused on selling much pricier products to some buyers who likely could've been perfectly happy with something like the Maxwell.
So i just got these after a long re-search what to buy in a budged of around 300 Euros. I used G335 before, so i expected a huge step up. Honestly im a bit dissapointed, i like them, quality is awesome, looks great etc.. Sound out of the box is very flat and my ears seem to be very sensitive to that kind of profile, when playing CS2 gun sounds are so loud and it hurts your ears, i had to drop the volume to like 65% so the gunshots dont blow my ears everytime i shoot a gun ( yes there is a few profiles in software for bass, footsteps etc.. but high notes still pierce through my ears) , my old 50 euros G335 are better then these for playing CS2 or some other FPS game ( and its decent enough for bass and deep sound with some tunning) , cause you can hear the steps much more clear, and locate the enemys position by the sound much better then these. and the high notes dont blow your ears off . Software is good and it helped a lot to bring the bass and more of a deep sound (its how i like it ) with EQ. So out of the box sound and preformance was bad for my taste, after some tunning its good. I realy wanted to try out these planar drivers, but im not amazed by them for the sound and gaming even less. I think its just way overhyped and its nothing special, you could prob get similar or better sound with tuning some lower end headphones. So yeah i honestly dotn understand why people praise these so much, makes me wonder what would fit me best, i also looked at many others like ( Logitech G PRO X2 LIGHTSPEED, STEELSERIES Arctis Nova Pro, HYPERX Cloud III, Wireless, Audio-Technica - ATH-M50xSTS, beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X, beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X, beyerdynamic MMX 300 2nd Gen ). I made a decision on these mostly on reviews, and this sites rating. Also i love music i spend a lot of time in my life listening to music, all sorts of styles. I have Edifier 1855db speakers, and i feel like i could have just gotten something much cheaper, and keep listening music through my Edifier speakers.
😮 Hope you got to return all those headphones!
@@gearupaaron I kept these, and DT 900 PROX so i have 1 open back setup headphone. I loved G PRO X2 for games and sound is good, mic on them is just meh tho haha, also Cloud 3 from Hyper X is pretty awesome for a 100 euros. MMX300 from Beyer is also awesome as a wired gaming headset, for those who want a bit more high end in my opinion. But i would say G PRO X2 if FPS gaming is your top priority, and you dont mind the mic on them. But i see your channel is more based for the audio type of audience.
Vastly disagree by own unit i turn back by 5 days of testing so i tell strictly they mean Maxwell are that much discomforted(8h not stop 3 sessions) that any value with they offer are dismissed. even if they have good music bluetoch battery they still worthless if is bloody pain in ears and head because design is shit so over all Maxwell is Shit because of design. who care how is play if is comfortable use all day long.
Bummer about that. Thanks for sharing. Goes to show that like pretty much anything, ymmv.
I have friends who hate ear buds because of their discomfort… I however love them. What I’m saying is, everyone is different. Seems like these headphones just aren’t meant to be for you.
I think your ear or head desing is the problem here.
