This is a superb ‘rock-opera’ anti-war parody with powerful visuals. Tractor is a reference to Belarus president Lukashenko's birthday present to Putin. In the song Putin is described as a "vile little psychopath", the vocalist represents Stalin, and the guy with nuclear rockets has NINLE on his forehead (word play: Nin-Le=Lenin) and is dressed in monk's outfit, like Rasputin. Insertion of a dominant, sinister, dark Lenin, who came way before Putin, points to a much deeper problem. And those TWO nuclear warheads; after all we all know who dropped the A-bombs! At the end of the video, on the nuclear missile, it is written "pajČu", an anagram; "Čupaj"- pull out. Trajna nina nena’ is Croatian song for little kids; ‘Trajna nina armagedon nona’(grandma) speaks for itself. Mama ŠČ is a metaphor for Mother Russia (ŠČ is a letter of the Russian alphabet, also old Croatian Glagolitic). The Cyrillic letter Shch Щ was derived from the Glagolitic (Croatian script) letter Sht Ⱋ. Coincidently, the sum of letters Š and Č gives Z (25+4=29) in Croatian alphabet, and Z is a military symbol used by Russian Federation to mark their military vehicles in Ukraine.
    The chaotic part of the song represents repeating the same mistakes from history, and not learning anything. It plays Croatian alphabet in reverse: Ž(Ж/Ⰶ), Z(З/Ⰷ), V(В/Ⰲ), U(У/Ⱆ), T(Т/Ⱅ), Š(Ш/Ⱎ), S(С/Ⱄ), R(Р/Ⱃ), P(П/Ⱂ), O(О/Ⱁ), Nj(Њ/Ⱀⰺ), N(Н/Ⱀ), M(М/Ⰿ), Lj(Љ/Ⰾⰺ), L(Л/Ⰾ), K(К/Ⰽ), J(Й/Ⰺ), I(И/Ⰻ), H(Х/Ⱈ), G(Г/Ⰳ), F(Ф/Ⱇ), E(Е/Ⰵ), Đ(Ђ/Ⰼ), Dž(Џ/Ⰴⰶ), D(Д/Ⰴ), Ć(Ћ/Ⱋ), Č(Ч/Ⱍ), C(Ц/Ⱌ), B(Б/Ⰱ), A(А/Ⰰ).
Visually, there are a lot of subliminals with multilevel meaning.
Crocodile is a terrible drug popular in Russia, that makes people act like zombies. Guys are dressed in military uniforms but in pink and bright colors and are wearing dresses; making fun of all warmongers and military establishments, proponents of chaos. Side image shows roses sticking out of their asses. Preposterous, or superb description of the present time? Main exclamation is ‘mama idem u rat’- mommy I am going to war, a cry against the forced mobilization, and sending young people to kill each other.
Are we ever going to learn?!

This is my text on Croatian Wikipedia about the song -- Mama ŠČ! is a song by the rock-punk group Let 3, which won at Dora 2023 held on February 11, 2023 in Opatija. The song will therefore represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool. According to the authors of more than 100 reactions to the song published so far on CZcams, the song is amazing - a spontaneous, organic and compact amalgam of metal-rock, children's (nursery) rhyme, punk, classical opera, psychedelic music, marching, slet (mass games) music, with a concrete reminiscence of chaotic Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, with elements of pop and even dance music.
It is already clear that it is the most original song of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, and one of the most original Eurovision songs in general. According to the comments of numerous listeners on CZcams, it is an art song with a strong message, but also a parody. Let 3 complemented the ingeniously composed music with great choreography and stage performances, so many commentators on CZcams point out that it is immediately clear that this is an original masterpiece, which will undoubtedly be noticed and remain prominent in the annals of the Eurovision Song Contest.
The words of the song are cryptic, and they mention the mom who bought a tractor, the mom who a moron, a small vile psychopath, armageddon-nona (grandmother), and they end-up with the line: "mom, I'm going to war". The meaning of the word "ŠČ", which is repeated after each verse, is particularly mysterious. The song is intentionally allusive (because Eurovision songs must not have any political message), and has a fluent meaning. Her interpretation is greatly helped by the fact that the main vocalist, Prlja, with make-up resembles Hitler from Chaplin's "The Great Dictator", but also wears a Stalin`s mustache, and it is clear that this is a parody of all the "little vile psychopaths, crocodile psychopaths" who push humanity into nuclear war ("armageddon"), symbolized by missiles carried by a bald man with the word "Njinle" (an anagram of Lenin) written on his forehead, although he is actually dressed as Rasputin, which represents an additional transition of meaning and performance into the surreal and the counter - reasonable.
The tractor mentioned at the beginning of the song probably refers to the tractor that Belarusian president Lukashenko bizarrely gave as a present to the Russian president Putin for his 70th birthday, and which - given that Russia finances Belarus - Russia bought to itself.
The word "mama" (which bought a tractor) therefore means Mother Russia , and it is also symbolized by the double voice, i.e. the letter ŠČ, for which there is a special sign in the Russian alphabet (Щ).
"Mama ŠČ" therefore means Mother Russia, although the song is not anti-Russian, but anti-war, because it "trolls" i.e. mocks and/or ironizes (with make-up, costumes, choreography, words and music) all those (both Hitler and Stalin) who, for the sake of the pleasure of their own domination, turn the world into a private playground of war, the price of which must be paid by the "little man".
The words "moron" and "psychopath" are therefore based on all those who start wars, as the co-author of Mrle confirmed in his interview on February 16 on Bosnian television, and not only on Putin, as stated in most media, although the allusion to him is perhaps clearer than others.
The song immediately delighted the majority of the audience, and won overwhelmingly at Dora, although there are also those who react negatively to it, so it is clear that it does not leave anyone indifferent. This was obviously the intention of the authors, more than winning the competition.
Despite this, some "Mama ŠČ!" already see as the winner of the competition, which largely coincides with the bookmakers' predictions.
WIWIBLOGGS, a specialized portal for Eurovision, has published the results of its poll on the favorites among the 15 songs selected so far. The first place was taken by Let 3 and their song "Mama ŠČ!".
31,437 people participated in the survey, and “Mama ŠČ!” won the first place with incredible 53.99% of votes (16,974 votes).

The "Rest of the World" gets to vote in both semifinals and the final according to the official statement by the EBU about the rules changes.
When I first heard this song I was kind of baffled and yet mesmerized by the performance. I definitely didn't think it was a joke entry either. I did think it seemed to have a message, but because of the language barrier I wasn't fully aware of what it was. I think it's pretty awesome that they packed so much meaning for interpretation by viewers. I agree, this has got to go to final! I also agree, this is a song that is way better with the visuals! Thanks to lots of Croatian fans sharing the interpretation we all learned some new things (like what's written on his head). This song was definitely written with the performance in mind and it shows! I think the future montage type videos about what is Eurovision will be including this!

You're all so great in your hillarious comments! 😁 This is much more serious song than it seems at the first glance! It's anti-war and anti-dictatorship protest rock opera like song and brutal mockery of "little vile psyc*****h" which is interpreted by majority of music professionals as Putin himself and ALL OTHER mad dictators like him, played by the Let 3 - famous experimental and often extremely provocative Croatian art punk rock band that is active over 30 years and which also had numerous collaborations in theater peroformances including those with very serious directors.
Lyrics description: "Mama ŠČ" = Mama Russia (among Russians "mother" symbolises their country), ŠČ is letter from the Russian alphabet.
"Mother bought a tractor" = Belarus dictator Lukašenko gave to Putin tractor for his 70th birthday.
"Mother loved a moron" = Mother Russia loved Putin.
As i've written "little vile psy******h" is also Putin and all mad agressors like him!
Let 3 outfits and styling: military like clothes as the representation of all mad war thirsty dictators in combo with drag queen like clothes and makeup (provocation to homophobic Russian President and likewise dictatorial conservatives).
Bald man is wearing dark scarf - alusion to Rasputin, another reference to Russia and on his forehead there's inscription "NJINLE" which is Croatian word play for LENJIN (NJIN + LE = LENJIN).
Nuclear rockets are rather self-explanatory: "little vile psy******h" from the Kremlin is constantly threatening with usage of nukes!
    Warm greetings from Croatia

      Popular drinks in Croatia are:
Short - plum/pear brandy (šljivovica, kruška), honey brandy (medica), red wine liquer (teranino from Istrian peninsula - it's fabulos), pelinkovac (herbal brandy), maraskino (cherry brandy made only from maraska type of cherries in the town of Zadar, that's the best one)
Long-ish - beer (we have a lot of great craft brewaries all around the country), wine (some of the best wines in the world come from Croatia, especially Istria region and Pelješac peninsula. There is also a very popular and somewhat expensive type of wine made from frozen grapes who were left on vine and are picked when temperature is at least -7)
'Cocktails' - jäger-cola (popular german herbal brandy with coke), whiskey-cola, gin tonic (we have great local small-batch gin production, one was named 'the best in the world' few years ago at fair in san francisco)
We don't do pineapple or fruity drinks after we finish high school. 🙂
Now you know what to drink when reacting to the official 'Mama ŠČ!' video.

Tell that to John Lennon, Biily Joel, Bob Dylan, John Legend, Nina Simone, Bruce Springsteen, Childish Gambino, Public enemy, Bob Marley, Prince, Megadeth, Niel Young, NWA, Rage against the machine, Pearl jam.....and thousends more. 🙄
For centuries art was used as political and/or social critique. Like jesters on courts in middle ages who were criticising the king through song and dance (they were the only people allowed to criticize the king and stay alive) or rennaisaince artists making people in church paintings and sculptures hypersexual, half or totally naked and attractive (Ectasy of St. Teresa - Bernini, he basicly sculpted beautiful women having orgasm in front of half naked male angel with phalic object in his hand, arrow, pointing at her crotch and placed it in the middle of the church in Rome) becouse Vatican was saying human sexuality is a 'sin'.
There is no better way to address political issues and social problems then with art, music especially. You can do it with paintings (Picasso, Harring), graffiti (Banksy, Vrubel), photography (Mapplethorp, Sterzing), sculptures (all of renaissaince sculpters), poetry (too much to select few) but music is art medium that reach most people.
When asked why is she doing what she's doing in a way she is doing it, since some people said it's 'too much'/'oversteping boundaries'/'insulting', Madonna said 'Artists are here to disturb the peace'.
And that's the point of this song. To disturb the 'status quo' that this attack on souvereign country has become. People need a reminder that the atrocities and war crimes made in Putin's war are still going on, and if being confronted with that makes them unconfortable, good.
      The goal is achived.
Let 3 is doing that for 36 years. That's why they have huge fan base and respect in Croatia and surrounding countries.
Dixie chicks, now just Chicks, were 'blacklisted' by country radio stations after their public critique of US 'false flag' attack on Iraq. But they didn't care about it becouse they did the right thing.
The same thing with Let 3. They don't care about their position on Eurovision. They only care that their message about 'little vicious psychopath' is heard around the world, and the best way to do it is by making ignorant 'status quo' people uncomfortable in their own little bubble.

Look… musically I hate it hard. I would never, ever listen to this. At all.
I will acknowledge that the actual stage show is very entertaining though - and that for that reason the song is bound to qualify (since it is a tele vote only semi).
I can’t see juries rewarding this, however, message or no… but most people will probably not see past the chaos anyway.
So in conclusion, I basically hate it as a song. I’m oddly fine with it in the final though. AND with it more likely than NOT being in danger of winning.
