    Those pallets are called Eurolava in Finland, but lava also means a stage, so Käärijä is performing on Euro(vision) stage. It is word play that Finns understand. 😅 Also the pallets form the boxing ring used in the music video.

    I think, although you didn't understand the lyrics, you kinda got the message, which shows how ingenius this song is. I see many people in the comments have already explained the meaning of the lyrics, but I just wanted to add my thoughts. You mentioned how out of place the cha cha dancers looked - and in the beginning, this hard rock tough guy is trying to loosen up and rid himself of the restraints of what a manly man is. He's socially awkward, and feels out of place. He is in a battle with himself (hence the wrestling ring) and his softer side. After drinking the piña coladas, he is able to shed the role of a tough guy, and finds the courage to hit the dancefloor. He doesn't know the correct steps for cha cha, but he feels free to be himself and enjoy dancing in his own style. 💚

      @@nineteenfortyeight6762 If you take the words literally, you might get the impression of it being supportive of alcohol consumption. Not all people who drink alcohol are alcoholists. Many people drink alcohol over the weekend. I personally take the lyrics as a metaphore for finding the courage and self-confidence to be yourself and enjoy life. Don't limit yourself from being yourself just because you aren't perfect. Or in short, you are amazing just the way you are.

  • @KK19825
    @KK19825 Před rokem +79

    When the dancers were in a leash he was trying to control his more outgoing and open side which wants to go dancing. When the dancers go in to the ring, that symbolizes the moment when pina coladas kick in and his other side is taking over, literally fighting his more reserved side. When the song changes his more outgoing side has won and he is let loose and hitting the dance floor.
    This isn't a joke song and there is a story to the song and it's so well backed up by the choreography.

  • @eetufin

    The song is about social anxiety, being free from gender and normative expectations like being a “true man”. In the first part of the song he is an angry and shy man after a hard week and he wants to dance even though he doesn't know how and on the other hand he can't because he is expected to be “hard man”. ChaChaCha ballroom dancers are the same: they have to respect traditional dance regulations including that they have to "(fake)smile" all the time and he controls them with the red ribbons just like the norms, authoritarian society or people's prejudices. But after having some piña coladas the his mind opens little by little and he has more confidence in himself even though he didn't know how to dance. So in the last part of the song he and the dancers become free without regulations and expectations of the other people and can be as they are! That's why the song is happy in the end!
    Well: to dance and to be as we are - we don't have to do and be as the authoritarians say or the people with prejudices.
    That's why this song is super smart and favorite to win! And it takes metal -> rap -> edm into the song. It is a total journey with lyrics and music!
    And if you listen well to the live version of the national final, the public is singing "cha cha cha cha cha cha cha" and dancing with him all the time: there is a point of "wow" and especially in the public. And that will surely multiply on the stage with the public in Liverpool!
    Cha Cha Cha 💚💚💚

    The song is both lyrically and musically genius. The pallets has to do that in Finnish pallet is called "lava" and that also means stage in english, so he is kind of performing in and on the eurostage, eurolava, so to say, something the Finn's know.

    I have to compliment the choreography of this song. It's amazing. Let me explain this. Yes Käärijä's dance moves, outfit and gestures are very camp on purpose and professional dancers are brilliant.
    Like many people have mentioned in earlier comments, this song is about social awkwardness and letting self regard loose after a few drinks. Suddenly a shy person is not afraid of a dance floor anymore but decides to have fun feeling great and being on top of the world. I bet everyone has seen that "hulk dance" in night clubs.

    First of all, this was not initially my favourite song. I am very into metal, EDM, synth sounds etc. but what kind of put me off was the lyrics. I interpreted the song as an anthem of drinking alcohol in the beginning and I thought it is the message that will ruin it's path. So I did not consider even the winner of Finnish UMK.
    When I saw the song live on stage, everything just found the right place. It is not about drinking, but it is about dancing, and letting yourself be free from worries and everyday stress for a little moment. When I first would have interpreted that in the end the "storyteller, me" will pass out of drinking, he actually passes out of dancing.
    The lyrics (the story) itself is split into two halves. So is the song as well: you see the mood change from the beginning to the end, as the story changes. So actually I think, while the song has been written, these guys have actually already thought about what it is gonna look like on stage. From a stiff, stressed, worrysome guy to the one, that has sipped a few pina coladas and has enough courage to hit the dance floor, where he has wanted to go, and not worry about how his dancing looks like, how he looks like with his weird costume, and eventually he owns the stage and even the professional dancers start dancing the same weird dance style.
    But story goes: he has a rough week at work. Now he only thinks about loosening up by drinking a few and then hitting the dancefloor. However, she is not self-confident enough to just to hit the floor, so he sips a few more, and slowly he starts to feel, soon it is the time ("niinku cha cha cha, mä oon jo tulossa...", I'm coming). And when he has had enough, the stage opens (pallets, that are in Finnish called "eurolava", and again that translated to English: "Euro stage") for the dancing part. And the weirdness can begin or continue.
    I do not think it is a song that would stand out on my taste. I am a fan of even rougher sound. So I was hoping that the beginning, the stiff sound would have somehow altered to even more aggressive, but in the end, the song is a good mood song, something to dance with, and not something you can just bang your head against the wall with. But after I have understood how cleverly it is structured and how the performance have been thought through, I applaud to that performance. The live performance is better than the video, and the video ain't that bad either in the end.
    As I am a Finn, I will not say a word whether it can win. I have a tendency to be a little bit pessimistic about Finnish chances in Eurovision. And even when Lordi won, I was not a big fan of the song, and the win was more a shock to me, than a reason to celebrate. There is a saying: "The hell will freeze over before Finland wins the Eurovision." We have already won once, but I am kind of still thinking, it needs a miracle of some sort to be at the top.
    I did like Blind Channel a few years back. The Rasmus was a mistake, but right now, I think Käärijä was actually in the tough UMK competion eventually the only ESC worthy choice.

    Finns (and especially Finnish men) are quiet and reserved but hard working. The pallets indicate working with wood, so a carpenter maybe. He says at the start it has been a long hard week but now all he wants is to hit the bar and go dancing. But he needs to come out of his icy shell. Cha Cha Cha here is symbolic. His 💚 costume is also symbolic. It is the pupa in which he is "in hiding". The whole song is about him transitioning to the dance stage after lubricating his mental lock with beers and Pina Colada. The repetitive monotony of work is reflected in the electro beat and tough lyrics. But he does finally hit the dance stage and the music style is now Finnish pop. Eventually he is pouring champagne over himself. The caterpillar or centipede is another transition. At the end we see him sawing. If the week was exhausting the weekend was even more exhausting. He collapses at the end!

  • @ristoravela652
    @ristoravela652 Před rokem +41

    I wouldn't call it profound, it's a simplish party song, buuut, there's a lot of interesting stuff going on in the details.
    On one hand it kind of is just a song about getting drunk to relax and have fun at a club... buuuut really it's more about letting go of social anxiety and stress in general. It's really more about why people drink than drinking as such.
    It makes you go "okay I do drink to relax, but maybe it's not great that I need to do that? Maybe it's not bad either?" Because the guy in the early parts of the song so clearly isn't happy about needing to drink, but then again it does work, so..?
    Then, when you combine the text with the music and staging, there's clearly additional subtext about masculinity and the ridiculousness of needing to look like a tough manly man, (but without being mean about it). That's something I really love about the song.
    Oh and the part where the song switches from harsh metal/EDM to campy pop music is also the point in the lyrics when the main character finally let's loose and "isn't afraid of the world anymore", and in the music video there's also a costume change to a campy white outfit with kind of a girly white wig. Then when you combine that genre switch with the subtext about masculinity and toughness and suddenly that's a whole commentary on the relationship of music and gender right there.
    I think it's a great example of what pop music can be at it's best; on one level it's a simple fun story about having fun, catchy and silly, but the attention to detail and nuance gives this just enough depth that it becomes interesting to think about and analyze, and very far from superfluous. You could easily write a whole paper on all the things going on here, but you can also influence a lot people with stuff like this because at its core it still IS an easy to understand, simple, relatable story about letting go of stress and anxiety. If you understand Finnish that is. If you don't, it's still an absolute blast because it just bangs so hard ❤

    I lolled at "it probably has a profound intelligent meaning" 😆
    But actually - the lyrics are kinda jokey, he's basically singing about drinking himself senseless - BUT the message IS meaningful. It's about the debilitating shyness of (Finnish) men, how they dare to DANCE only when drunk. The message is encouraging to let go and have fun. It's a sarcastic take, but I feel the point is we should be able to dance and relax without drinking ourselves senseless.
    Although, I have no doubt 95% of atleast Finns miss the sarcasm and just drink themselves senseless to the song and then bounce around the dance floor.
    How I would describe the song is that it is a humorous song, but not a joke song. And it has actual artistic value too, I think, I mean it's a good song even if you understand nothing of the words.
