  • Match fixing goes against the very nature of sportsmanship. It's unethical, it's deplorable and it's also super uncool.
    Despite this, it has been attempted since the dawn of competition and will likely be attempted many times more in the future.
    Today we take a look at two high profile match fixing scandals in Italy and what exactly went down.

      I get what you mean, but if I let the joke deliberatily go over my head for a moment Im going to note that it probably would be a "repair" or something good to the one ordinating the match-fix, or it could just refer to the result being "Fixed" in place (or 'pre-determined', at least which team wins).

    Die hard Juventus fan here since 1993. I would like to thank you for sharing this video, and generally speaking no objection here. In fact, I would like to thank you for three things:
    1. Highlighting the fact that other clubs were involved, and not just Juve.
    2. inter escaping further investigation and punishment due to the statute of limitations
    3. Mentioning that Juve re-emerged in 2011/2012 -> and even in that season, all Juve's rivals were complaining of preferential decisions. Which is quite ironic considering Moggi, Bettega, and Giraudo were all out of the picture, and that back in 2006 inter's then Chairman famously claimed that Serie A was now clean and honest from now on.
    Cheers mate.

    • @FuzzyDlop
      @FuzzyDlop Před rokem

      There was no statue of limitations, Inter escaped because they weren't involved at all. Juventus fans are the most pathetic people and ever not to mention the most dishonest and removed from reality. They can't accept the fact they wasted their life supporting the most corrupted team in sports history. It's factual that Inter wasn't involved and that won't change because Juventus fans want it. Pathetic that you're still trying to manipulate the truth to this day. Perfect representation of how digusting Juventus and its fans are.

    • @rhizoidx
      @rhizoidx Před rokem

      @@FuzzyDlop Pathetic that your delusional fan base (whatever it is) just wants to blame Juventus for their own failures. Where were the referees in 1999? Where were the referees in Perugia in 2000? Where were the referees in 2001? Where were the referees in 2004?
      I'm sure you saw the netflix special.
      Let's fact check some of the games.
      Game 1: Lecce-Parma - The game has nothing at all to do with Juventus but this game allowed Fiorentina to survive Serie A in 2005. The accusation is that Moggi controlled referee De Santis fixed the match at the request of Moggi after Della Valle (Fiorentina owner) asked Moggi for help. Moggi actually can’t stand De Santis and De Santis can’t stand Juventus. It was De Santis (admitted Interista) that disallowed a legitimate Juventus goal in the Italian Supercup costing Juve the trophy and handing it to inter wrongfully. All intercepted phone calls regarding this game showed Della Valle contacting Bergamo (referee designer) and Carraro (FIGC president) and Mazzei (FIGC Vice President) directly with no mention of Luciano Moggi.
      Game 2: Juventus-Udinese - the actual fixed game was Udinese-Bologna the week before. The idea was for the Moggi controlled referee to give yellow cards to Udinese players that were already carrying yellow cards so that they couldn’t play against Juventus. The players handed yellow cards that day were Pinzi and Di Michele. In actual fact neither was carrying yellows and both were on the field against Juventus the following match day.
      Game 3: Juventus-Sampdoria - here the accusation was that the Moggi controlled referee allowed an offside goal to stand granting Juventus a 1-0 win over Sampdoria. The game actually ended 0-1 for Sampdoria with Aimo Diana scoring an offside goal. Please search the game on CZcams.

    If a team is found guilty of cheating/match fixing, the owners should have their assets seized and thrown in prison for at minimum 10 years, the club should be relegated to the lowest tier of professional football in their nations, players contracts get locked indefinitely until they get back into the tier they were removed from then the time starts counting again. You can’t trade players and have to continue paying them the same salary all that time. If a player retires, he isn’t allowed to play in any professional league be it beach football, futsal or field football. Make the penalty so heavy that people are terrified of doing it. That would fix it. As for officials getting caught, you seize all their assets and put them in prison for 10 years as well, they have to start from scratch as if they were just born.

    I would love a sort of tropico style football game where its all about corruption and using the most dirty and corrupt methods to win. Like match fixing or using bribes to get the league or any other trophy like the WC or Ucl immediately. And if you fail or get caught you get relegated or banned from certain tournaments or point deductions etc. It would be a very fun game tbh i would play that

    Calciopoli was a scandal not only related to football: Moggi was the head of a sort of "organization", and he was able to grant favours even to politicians and high ranked militaries; the gifts were many, and definitely not only "discounts" on Fiat products; we're talking about Rolex, Cars, Houses... even better jobs. That dude literally had two policemen as "bodyguards"
    You're right, many other teams had a line of comunication with the referees, but Moggi was the one who controlled the whole thing, and the one you had to ask to fix the game. E.g. Inter president, Giacinto Facchetti, indeed had lines of comunications with the referees - which still was illegal - but there is no proof of match fixing
    Moreover, 2004 is just the year the investigation started, but it's pretty clear that this situation started way before 2004

    There's probably match fixing in every league. Madrid usually plays with favorable refereeing, and it shows a lot when in a particular game they couldn't or wouldn't get that advantage.
    On the topic of Spanish football there's been a disgustingly high amount of scandals that have blown up in recent years and the problem is that they usually blow up far too late for there to be any action to be taken besides punishing the club leadership

      And when Juve beat Liverpool(Heysel I think), foul was well outside the box, you can see it in the live play, not even replay, the ref gives a penalty and Juve won 1-0, with Platini(another allegedly corrupt scumbag) taking the winning penalty. Doesn't help the Italian image that they basically created/revolutionized "modern" organized crime.

      Nope, Inter never did anything like that. Only Juventus did as they are the most corrupted team in sports history. Juventus fans keep spreading lies after all these years because they're pathetic and disgusting. Truly the most pathetic fans in the history of ANY sports. It's hard for them to believe Inter was actually a clean and honest club because they never understood honesty and decency. It's all factual that Inter has never done it. Juventus is simply the most disgusting club ever and its fans are even worse, they've been lying to themselves and to others because they can't accept they supported such a corrupted and pathetic club all their life.

    Much of the ill-feeling in Italy towards Juventus comes from beliefs that they have bribed refs for decades. Roma fans feel that the 1980-81 Scudetto was stolen from them. (Moggi handled transfers for Roma at one stage in his career and many fans believe he left Roma when it was found that he was being bribed to do favourable deals for Juve). Then in 1981-82, Fiorentina fans feel that they were cheated by Juve bribing refs. These clubs are not clubs that have won many Scudetti - Roma 3 and Fiorentina 2 - so any loss is keenly felt. Fiorentina fans felt particularly insulted when their star player in 1990 Roberto Baggio was sold to Juve.
    Going further back to the 60s and 70s, English clubs have suffered at the hands of Italian clubs and bent referees: Inter scoring directly from an indirect free-kick vs Liverpool, Leeds vs Milan and Derby vs Juventus.

  • @gavunku
    @gavunku Před rokem +1

    Who they were going for was Berlusconi but they couldn't manage to do it(that boiled till the bunga bunga scandal). Moggi was the scapegoat but it also had to do with the fact that italian football was not economically healthy and that was the first step which was taken. Also calciopoli comes from tangentopoli. And fun fact, the owner(Moratti) of the only big team which came out clean with the whole "cardboard scudetto" situation,(Inter) coincidentally had very strong connections with the leadership of Telecom which is the phone company who cooperated with the autorities intercepting all the incriminating calls.
