That aside, one of the projects that has me a bit anxious is the revamping of the Camp Nou. It's a seriously ambitious project that is going to take tons of money (probably) and quite some time. I think the colapse has a lot to do with the culture as well. The idea of being “loyal” and etc..
I remember a Brazilian reporter talking about how Real Madrid handles older players. It’s almost sad, but they prefer to maintain youth and salary norms instead of showing this “loyalty”. Ramos, Casillas, Marcelo, Casemiro, Raul and some others are legends, but they were let go because the team didn’t want to give out big multi year expensive contracts to aging players. In Barcelona’s case, Umtitti, Alba, Lenglet, Sergi Roberto, Pique, Busquets and others were given crazy contracts at later ages of their career. Not to mention the big difference in recruitment. Real Madrid obviously have flops, but Barcelona have lost ridiculous amounts of money on Coutinho, Dembele and Griezmann alone. This paired with poor youth management ruins your future, exactly the issue they’re having now. The name will keep them afloat, but most clubs would be absolutely destroyed with the terrible management they’ve been through.

25% of Barca's LaLiga TV rights for 25 years receiving €607m as a one of fee. Which works out at equivalent of just over €24m Euros a year received all at once to give back 1/4 of something in the region of €165m (2019/2020 TV rights deal according to Marca) which is just over €40m.
So paying 1.7 times back per year on a short term lever tells me the folllowing.
The super league is not dead for Barcalona as it wont have fo give any La Liga TV deal income back if it does not receive any La Liga TV income.
The Super league horizon is set at just short of 15 years before Barca make a loss at this deal assuming no inflation. So 5-7 years realistically as TV deals and inflation are insane.
Barcalona a really in a terrible position financially as you cant do deals like this more than once.

A very important detail is all La Liga clubs sold 25% of their tv rights for 50 years as part of the cvc deal that La Liga kinda forced on them. All but 3 who refused who are Barca. Madrid and Bilbao so la liga told those 3 clubs to either sell 25% to someone other then cvc or they’d be punished. So this is where the levers thing came up Barca didn’t do it voluntarily but were forced to by La Liga. And the deal they got from sixth street is much better then what cvc offered. More then double the money for only 25 years not 50 and Barca can buy back their rights whenever they want. So whin Atletico Madrid. Sevilla. Valencia etc are hooked to 50 years with cvc Barca are only on 25 years and can buy them back anytime

still there is no such thing as free money.
In the long run, FC Barcelona pays a rather high price. After all, the club now has to give up a quarter of the TV revenues for 25 years. A new TV deal will start in Spain next year. Barça will receive around 200 million a year. Of this amount, the club must therefore give 50 million to the Americans.
Suppose FC Barcelona's TV revenues remain the same until 2047. Sixth Street then has earned its money back after ten years and eventually takes 1.25 billion. That is 740 million above the purchase price of 510 million. Money that would normally have gone to FC Barcelona. The return for Sixth Street is likely to be a lot higher, because the TV rights are sold again every few years. Until now, this always leads to higher amounts for FC Barcelona. And therefore also to higher contributions to Sixth Street.

@@Stanleyhamer Actually Barca received around 607 million and some reports suggest it’s 667. Also they wouldn’t have put that repurchase clause if they didn’t plan on buying back their rights in the future after they get out of this financial mess which I’m assuming will take less then 25 years and even tho this deal might sound inconvenient (which it is) it’s still a lot better than what La Liga offered with cvc

Those levers are a relief for the time being, and they kinda had no choice at this point, which is worrying in itself, but they can be dangerous. If they sell too much of their future earnings, they may go down in a neverending spiral of debt relieved by levers until the club goes bankrupt. In my opinion, they're not safe yet, at all. The 5 next year will say what the club becomes.
If they manage to lower their total amount of debt, player wages, and increase their overall revenues (that's where good european results could be a very good thing), then they will get out of trouble. If not, the club may go bankrupt, lose the Camp Nou and all players, go in second of third division and have to start from zero.
That seems impossible right? A club of this stature will always have something or someone to save their ass. Well, most likely yes, but bad management could litterally destroy them. We're talking 1 and a half BILLION in debt. That's a lot a lot

Do you know what used to be the annual revenue of the club pre covid times ?
Look it up. A debt of one and a half billion is nothing for a club like Barcelona, it was only a problem insofar that the revenue from the ticket sales were nullified because of the lockdowns and with that no longer being the problem and the team rejuvenated, the revenue will flow back in quickly. Learn a little about finances before going all doom and gloom about such things.

There is a lot of exaggeration by content creators and mostly ignorant English media about what goes on in spain. Just yesterday the laliga president Tebas and Laliga director came out and said Barca will never go bankrupt. All the levers they activated this season and the assets they sold where only worth 5% of the clubs total revenue a season, and also the total debt of the club is only 875. Million and not 1.2 billion, again this is not said by the club president but by the laliga president and directors who have access to the the accounts of all the clubs in laliga. So what laporta did this season is just sacrificing 5% revenue for saving the club financially and inturn the clubs merchandise sales and they are filling up the biggest stadium in Europe for almost every matchday now because of the competitive team. And the words from the laliga executives proves that this whole misconception and narrative mostly by rival fans and English media saying that if barca don't win the CL this season then they will disappear in 2 yrs and will go bankrupt is absolutely BS, ofcourse Barca wants to win and it's not a club owned by rich owners so it generates revenue through winning and other streams, but it has not much financial implications as it is made out in the media, especially since the club barely sacrificed just 5% of its total income every season.

    @UTxTheArchangel Před rokem +2

The turn around for Barcelona all started with the election. Victor Font had great ideas, but that's all those were...ideas. His ideas are votes and fans buying into a project. A project is just a rebuild and nobody wants a rebuild. His opponent however was a man who voters already knew. Someone who didn't need to sell them on anything bc he already proved himself. The last time Barcelona was on top of the football mountain(excluding prime MSN era), he was in charge. Laporta is the hero of the recovery story. Without him, none of what has happened successfully so far for the team, would have happened.
The Neymar situation was the start of fan hatred toward Bartomeu. Bc his arrogance and stubbornness is why Barca lost Neymar. At that time, Bartomeu was trying to snatch Verratti from PSG. To which PSG responded by demanding Barca stop or else they'll take one of their players. Barto kept trying...PSG went for Neymar. Which btw is a constant thing. In 2018 PSG warned Barcelona to stop trying to sign Rabiot. They also warned Barca against trying to get Neymar back, as Barto was trying to, to save himself.
And even last season, PSG warned Barca not to try and talk Messi into a return.
The overspending was a desperate man trying to save his job with no real idea how to do so. The manager position became a revolving door. Those managers were given players they didn't want or ask for. Couldn't get the players they did want and ask for. Bartomeu just kept spending money.
As for Laporta, what helped him achieve what he achieved this past window is his well manners, respect for clubs, and he's a good talker. Laporta's job is to sell players on joining the team and at a low price, and talk other players into restructuring their contracts. He did those things without being disrespectful or aggressive. When media would ask about a rumored target, Laporta would praise the player, praise that player's club, and then say words to deny interest.
Every player they signed...wanted Barcelona over any other club. They all had other offers and some better offers, but wanted Barcelona. Why? Its still Barcelona 1st and foremost. But also, Laporta and Xavi.

RL is a great signing but he’s old and in 2 years I would not want his wages.

If you watched towards the end of the season barcelona crawled over the line to that second spot. Only Torres stayed after the summer from that January window, everyone else was a stop gap signing needed to change the dynamic of the team. Having a "shadow" for almost all positions outs barcelona in a good position along with the clever free transfers. The contract situation for De jong was the only thing that was truly handled poorly but I bet this was a frustrating summer for all clubs.
