Spurs are weird. They have the talent to win and challenge for the league and trophies but always end up not doing so. They've been constant underachievers the past few years, although them getting to the Champion's League final was an amazing thing.
Look at the teams they've run into. They were never gonna succeed with Redknapp because United and Chelsea ruled England. Under MoPo, they played fantastic football right as City forged their dynasty.

What's most confusing for me is that Son is so greatly undervalued and underappreciated by not only the world, premier league but the spurs fans themselves. Top class, humble, performs, positive and loyal.

But spend very little. - Very decently run club. - Spurs DNA is very attacking football (except the years of Mourinho, Nuno and Conte). - Known for flair but also for weak mentality. - Large fan base. Extremely loyal. - Probably the best football stadium in the world. - Have/had some of greatest talents (Ardiles, Hoddle, Klinsmann, Ginola, Modric, Bale, Dembele, Kane, Son) - theres only one Hotspur. its a great team for someone new to football wanting to support a team but dont want (cheatcode) oil money then Spurs is perfect.
They're a great club (said as a Chelsea fan). Their impact on football today can't be understated - not only the first club to become a PLC, which was the first move nudging open the door for the commercializing of football, but Rowe & Nicholson were responsible for introducing the pass & move/positional play style of football (then called push & run) to England. In a tactical sense that's equivalent to them being what Mozart was to music. Even the whole Spursy thing is great, their fans might not appreciate it but it's character. Every club has fans that like to pretend they're special, you hear the phrase "only my club could do this" in a self deprecating tone all the time & usually it's emotional hyperbolic nonsense, Spurs have a whole word coined for it just for them lol... they're a club that many rivals like to say they hate, but deep down nobody would want to see them go away which I can't say about my club.
I'm British and Italian and Spurs reminds me to a certain degree with AS Roma. A team that definitely had success in the past and has been in the upper part of the league consistently but doesn't win. Although naturally the difference between the two is that Spurs has had more European "success" in recent times.
I'm also English and Italian. I support Tottenham and Lazio. London has many clubs, Rome has two. The rivalries in London will never match the one in Rome. Different clubs, different philosophy, different trophies won.
At least their new stadium didn't make Spurs constantly keep selling their best players. Arsenal on the other hand lost so many star players over the years when they moved in to Emirates. They smash up Highbury and look where they are at now. Football can be brutal you know.
Arsenal built their stadium at the worst possible time, just as the sports primary revenue went from gate receipts to TV money, and sponsorship's not only that but the extra challenge of the oil clubs came along just as the stadium was being built despite this and having to sell their best players every season to avoid financial meltdown they still managed to qualify for the CL for 10 straight years after the stadium was built whilst Spurs haven't qualified once since their stadium move (in a full season)
Not a Spurs fan, but I've got a lot of respect for Levy. He's someone who'll protect the club and it's assets (ahem Kane) even if it mean he gets slated for it. Again he's not perfect but he was at the helm when Tottenham reached the CL final and was competing for the PL and to this day has still managed to keep Spurs in Europe (even if it's only the Conference). Not to mention the new stadium, their academy is pretty decent as well and they're seen as a big six club now when they used to be a lower midtable club. Levy did all of that.
He should of let him go I think, I'll eat my shoe if Spurs win the league this year but that man looks so demotivated it's unreal PS I don't think you need to be a hard arse to get what you want, or create success, humanity has to play into it somewhere surely as you want resolutions that work for as many parties as possible, I think these are the contributing factors that breed success, although their debt is insane 😅

Love the videos. This is the first time I've actually take a look at Spurs history before the Prem. Quite a few significant achievements, but it's a strange history indeed. But the fact that they're not really backed by a foreign investment and be able to be a significant side is at least commendable. And let's face it, Spurs is a significant side of English football still. If they had won the league, the feeling won't be the same as when Leicester had won it. Because they don't feel like underdogs, even after numerous underwhelming years. It's partly because of the exciting squad at the time, but also because of the history.
Tottenham is one of four teams i've been following curiously since 2011. The others being Dortmund, Athletico Madrid and SSC Napoli. These four seemed to be able to challenge the status quo and seeing them take on established top teams was a nice breath of fresh air. Even though they ultimately haven't won anyhting yet, I still enjoy watching them a lot.

Yes, Spurs is a big club. They have a big fanbase, achieved some stuff like a double, and have been seen amongst the biggest English clubs for a long time. Fans who disagree are Spurs haters, or very young/ignorant who don't get English footballing culture and history.

The people saying No are either misunderstanding or just hateful. Whether you support Spurs or not, they are a big club for two reasons: Firstly, the history of the club is a good one. 2 League titles is better than hundreds of clubs have managed. 8 FA Cups is good enough for a Top 5 ranking in that competition. 4 League Cups and 3 European competitions (not including Charity Shields, etc). Secondly, you have to look at current popularity worldwide. Spurs are right up there, after a slow start to the Premier League era. Especially in South Korea, the club is followed by over 10 million people. On top of that, Spurs currently has the best stadium in England and gets a good attendance number for home games. Love them or hate them, Tottenham Hotspur is a big club.

Levy is actually better than most Chairman. He cares for the club. But, he is tight on the pocket. I really respect how well Spurs have done over the years, eventhough they have been seen as a nursery for upcoming players by football giants... Its appaling that they sacked Poch. He would have gotten them some trophy the coming season if they were patient.
There's an ethos at the club that having fun and enjoying the journey is more important than winning trophies. Success at Spurs means finishing the season with a smile on your face. We lack a strong winning mentality. Personally, I love what the club stands for and I enjoy fun games more than winning, but over the last few years, I have wished for maybe a couple of players with a winning mentality who could have got us over the line in certain situations. That said, if it's a choice between a fun style of play and winning a trophy now and then, I'd go for the fun style!
Completely agree. I've been a Spurs fan since like 2014 (i live in miami btw not england) and what ive loved is that sense of fun, and that win or lose it's a spirited match.

This is probably going to be lost in the sea of comments. But with the way you structure these in-depth analysis videos, I think you are going to blow up! I'm not really into football, but cannot help bing-watching your videos, they really are so interesting!
I think Spurs were more unlucky than anything else, they had a three year window from the 15/16 season to the 17/18 season to win the Premiership and it just didn’t work out, sandwiched in between the end of Chelsea’s return to dominance from 2015-2017 (the 15/16 season was essentially a massive anomaly and will never be repeated within our lifetimes) and the rise of Pep’s City and Klopp’s Liverpool (2017-probably 2023/4ish), it was just bad luck on their part more than anything they had much control over.
The problem was depth. Spurs had the best starting 11 in 2015-17 but didn't have anyone of the same quality outside of that 11. But they weren't even meant to be that good yet and were ahead of schedule so quality depth wasn't something spurs were capable of. They'd already gotten a bit lucky with certain low cost players like dembele, dele, wanyama, dier and son and hadn't built the new stadium yet to enable more money spent. Still think they should've won something and part of the problem was Poch's mentality and the fact he's not a born winner, but the biggest problem was depth.

as a Spurs fan, we're a bit confusing, we're a bit like Bayern Leverkusen we got world class players, we can be good at times, and bad at times, lately we're getting more confusingly bad at staying good. We'd br a team who would lose to those with the stats to show that we should win 2-0 at the very least, but we can also win as the underdogs, which is why im a fan, its just so fun supporting this team.

Oh wow 35 years a Spurs fan!!!! Ive only been for about 10 years, but once i started watching football spurs were my club. The Poch era was my favorite, i remember when he first came it was so exciting! To me thats the "classic spurs" squad. Seeing a game in tottenham is on my bucket list too. As far as silverware goes this squad is looking promising i love bryan gil, and dele seems to be regaining his form. I think spurs need better depth tho.

Before this video, I always thought that Daniel Levy was at fault for not letting Harry Kane go. But now I understand that at this point If spurs are to go back to winning ways and great performance, they can't afford to lose Harry Kane since they won't find a better prolific and experienced striker than Harry. Although I still think that sacking Mourinho was a mistake. They should've been patient and at least let him finish the season.

I think Levy's vision is now taking place He wanted to build the stadium since 2009, right after winning our last trophy, he made sure spurs were good financially so that the could do this project. Might be one of the reasons for way he handled transfers. Now that the stadium is complete he started investing in the team. And that transition is very visible 17/18: Sold Walker Wimmer and Bentaleb and got Davi Moura and Aurier (Spent Big because he sold big) -19.7m Total 18/19: I still can't figure out if it was the stadium being almost complete or what but it haunts me bcz we might have had a UCL if the club spent that year +5.35m Total from Dembele 19/20:Spent 60m on Tanguy, 30m on stevie 27m on Sess and 11m on Clarke while selling the likes of Eriksen and Trippier -84m Total 20/21:Spent 32m on GLC 30m on Regui 16.8m on Doherty 16.6m on PEH and 12.1m on Rodon and only sold KWP -97.2m total 21/22: Gil 25m Emerson 25m Bentancur 19m Pape Sarr 16.9m + Kulusevski and Romero while only selling Foyth, Toby and Sissoko -141m total Now that spurs have amazing facilities,stadium etc. There is a lot of the budget going to the team and I believe Spurs will play a huge role in the coming years of English football
I was born into being a Spurs fan and my first regular match was against Southampton in 1949 at age 10 this was in the old 2nd division and we won it at a canter then the following season won the 1st division title., i remember so well the first game of the season was at home to Blackpool with Stan Matthews and all. They walloped us 1-4. Although the majority of my life has been spent overseas as well as 7 years at sea I've always remained a true Lilywhite through all the frustrations as well as the wonderful seasons

As a Nottingham forest fan I have a such a soft spot for spurs as we are both the underdogs in our respective league with fast high intensity counter attacking style of play and rich history. I hope one day spurs can win Europe or the league and will always root for them except for when we face off obviously.
I am a Spurs fan, and I would say we have a big fanbase, unfortunately we have an ownership so lacking in footballing ambition that in the two decades plus that ENIC have owned us we've had to watch Leicester City win more us over that period. The owners of the club have always been money oriented, the football has always come second at Spurs.

Everybody forgets that Jimmy Greaves first broke out in English football with Chelsea. He was a machine, scoring 124 goals in 157 appearances before he moved to AC Milan.

Levy's beyond frustrating at times, but he hasade sure our foundations are more than solid, i can't ever see us going into administration or needing to be bailed out. Got the best stadium in the world as a result of his immense tightness too.
In the grand scheme of things, yes they're one of the biggest clubs. In terms of the top teams in the world, they've always been in the bracket below the top, never quite making it into that top bracket.
No one outside England considers Tottenham a _"big club"._ Even Celtic is bigger. They have basically 0 history in Europes top flight. They reached one final final. That's about it...

The fact they've got a history of playing in Europe and the top League in England shows that. In terms of top teams and their records, such as celtic as you mentioned, no they aren't. Anyone who knows football and English teams and history would say that. I don't know Spanish football history but I'd say real betis a big club, just not a big one in terms of the best.
They were facing lack of quality in Bench! That's the main problem I think. If they achieve something in this upcoming years, then Conte, kane and sons involvement will be more crucial. They also need some core transfers in defence and midfield position
This video makes me curious about what are your thoughts on the game in general when it comes to comparision across the timeline of say past 100 years or so. I mean do you thin the big money involed is making the game more fun to watch with cream talents on display. Or the more popular notion that the game has lost its emotional touch and become more predictable.
To be fair, teams have been bankrolled, fixed matches and had unfair financial advantages since the 1800s. The concept of a team buying the league has been relevant for long before the modern era. The level it's at now is just an inevitable consequence of scale in my opinion. But money has never been the only thing that makes teams win. I think the "romance " of the game is still there. Less prevalent. But still there. We also have to come to terms with the fact that this is a business at the end of the day. Quality wise, I can't really speak on that. I started watching football in 2003, and in my eyes the quality has gotten better since then but can't speak on all of history.
They are, they just don't command that same flashiness some of the other teams do, and I believe that plays a part in their ability to attract big franchise type players, it's difficult to justify building a new stadium when you haven't won the PL

As a Spurs fan it sucks seeing Spurs' recent history. We always end up big but slip towards the end. I don't appreciate all the comments thrashing the club, especially since it's gone far enough that I've met people who genuinely think we haven't won anything at all in our history, like literally nothing. But it's a part of football, and football can be brutal because of how competitive it is. But I think our history is still good and we did in fact win a decent amount of trophies. Probably a far-fetched comparison but the analogy is there; going through a drought for a long time doesn't invalidate your worth, I mean Liverpool have gone 30 years without winning a league title. But then again, playing in England isn't easy, there are at least 5 other big competing clubs (the top 6 in general). It is what it is though. I'm glad we have legends registered in our club's history like Bale, Keane, Defoe, Son, Kane and more. Always a Spurs fan no matter what. Hoping for next season with Conte.
Here in Germeny we have quite a similiar cursed Club with Bayer Leverkusen. They re also always playing at the top and qualify for European Football. But they dont win stuff as they always are 2nd to 5th at the end of the season. They also reached a UCL final but lost of course. Yes, they won trophys in the past. But the last one was the german Cup in 93. For me its mind blowing, how Leverkusen hasnt won a title since then as they re the 3rd most consistant Club behind Bayern and Dortmund during this time.

its a great team for someone new to football wanting to support a team but dont want (cheatcode) oil money then Spurs is perfect.
They're a great club (said as a Chelsea fan). Their impact on football today can't be understated - not only the first club to become a PLC, which was the first move nudging open the door for the commercializing of football, but Rowe & Nicholson were responsible for introducing the pass & move/positional play style of football (then called push & run) to England. In a tactical sense that's equivalent to them being what Mozart was to music.
Even the whole Spursy thing is great, their fans might not appreciate it but it's character. Every club has fans that like to pretend they're special, you hear the phrase "only my club could do this" in a self deprecating tone all the time & usually it's emotional hyperbolic nonsense, Spurs have a whole word coined for it just for them lol... they're a club that many rivals like to say they hate, but deep down nobody would want to see them go away which I can't say about my club.
I'm British and Italian and Spurs reminds me to a certain degree with AS Roma. A team that definitely had success in the past and has been in the upper part of the league consistently but doesn't win. Although naturally the difference between the two is that Spurs has had more European "success" in recent times.
And that roma have won the league in the past 20 years.

I'm also English and Italian. I support Tottenham and Lazio. London has many clubs, Rome has two. The rivalries in London will never match the one in Rome. Different clubs, different philosophy, different trophies won.
At least their new stadium didn't make Spurs constantly keep selling their best players. Arsenal on the other hand lost so many star players over the years when they moved in to Emirates. They smash up Highbury and look where they are at now. Football can be brutal you know.

Arsenal built their stadium at the worst possible time, just as the sports primary revenue went from gate receipts to TV money, and sponsorship's not only that but the extra challenge of the oil clubs came along just as the stadium was being built despite this and having to sell their best players every season to avoid financial meltdown they still managed to qualify for the CL for 10 straight years after the stadium was built whilst Spurs haven't qualified once since their stadium move (in a full season)

Not a Spurs fan, but I've got a lot of respect for Levy. He's someone who'll protect the club and it's assets (ahem Kane) even if it mean he gets slated for it. Again he's not perfect but he was at the helm when Tottenham reached the CL final and was competing for the PL and to this day has still managed to keep Spurs in Europe (even if it's only the Conference). Not to mention the new stadium, their academy is pretty decent as well and they're seen as a big six club now when they used to be a lower midtable club. Levy did all of that.

Love the videos. This is the first time I've actually take a look at Spurs history before the Prem. Quite a few significant achievements, but it's a strange history indeed. But the fact that they're not really backed by a foreign investment and be able to be a significant side is at least commendable. And let's face it, Spurs is a significant side of English football still. If they had won the league, the feeling won't be the same as when Leicester had won it. Because they don't feel like underdogs, even after numerous underwhelming years. It's partly because of the exciting squad at the time, but also because of the history.

Tottenham is one of four teams i've been following curiously since 2011. The others being Dortmund, Athletico Madrid and SSC Napoli. These four seemed to be able to challenge the status quo and seeing them take on established top teams was a nice breath of fresh air. Even though they ultimately haven't won anyhting yet, I still enjoy watching them a lot.

The people saying No are either misunderstanding or just hateful. Whether you support Spurs or not, they are a big club for two reasons: Firstly, the history of the club is a good one. 2 League titles is better than hundreds of clubs have managed. 8 FA Cups is good enough for a Top 5 ranking in that competition. 4 League Cups and 3 European competitions (not including Charity Shields, etc).
Secondly, you have to look at current popularity worldwide. Spurs are right up there, after a slow start to the Premier League era. Especially in South Korea, the club is followed by over 10 million people. On top of that, Spurs currently has the best stadium in England and gets a good attendance number for home games. Love them or hate them, Tottenham Hotspur is a big club.

There's an ethos at the club that having fun and enjoying the journey is more important than winning trophies. Success at Spurs means finishing the season with a smile on your face. We lack a strong winning mentality. Personally, I love what the club stands for and I enjoy fun games more than winning, but over the last few years, I have wished for maybe a couple of players with a winning mentality who could have got us over the line in certain situations. That said, if it's a choice between a fun style of play and winning a trophy now and then, I'd go for the fun style!
Completely agree. I've been a Spurs fan since like 2014 (i live in miami btw not england) and what ive loved is that sense of fun, and that win or lose it's a spirited match.

I think Spurs were more unlucky than anything else, they had a three year window from the 15/16 season to the 17/18 season to win the Premiership and it just didn’t work out, sandwiched in between the end of Chelsea’s return to dominance from 2015-2017 (the 15/16 season was essentially a massive anomaly and will never be repeated within our lifetimes) and the rise of Pep’s City and Klopp’s
Liverpool (2017-probably 2023/4ish), it was just bad luck on their part more than anything they had much control over.
2016-2018 were the best chances for Spurs
The problem was depth. Spurs had the best starting 11 in 2015-17 but didn't have anyone of the same quality outside of that 11. But they weren't even meant to be that good yet and were ahead of schedule so quality depth wasn't something spurs were capable of. They'd already gotten a bit lucky with certain low cost players like dembele, dele, wanyama, dier and son and hadn't built the new stadium yet to enable more money spent. Still think they should've won something and part of the problem was Poch's mentality and the fact he's not a born winner, but the biggest problem was depth.

as a Spurs fan, we're a bit confusing, we're a bit like Bayern Leverkusen we got world class players, we can be good at times, and bad at times, lately we're getting more confusingly bad at staying good.
We'd br a team who would lose to those with the stats to show that we should win 2-0 at the very least, but we can also win as the underdogs, which is why im a fan, its just so fun supporting this team.
It's sad that we missed the chance to push on when we were nearly there with Harry and Poch. I think we are going to struggle to get back to the CL any time soon.

Oh wow 35 years a Spurs fan!!!! Ive only been for about 10 years, but once i started watching football spurs were my club. The Poch era was my favorite, i remember when he first came it was so exciting! To me thats the "classic spurs" squad. Seeing a game in tottenham is on my bucket list too.
As far as silverware goes this squad is looking promising i love bryan gil, and dele seems to be regaining his form. I think spurs need better depth tho.

Before this video, I always thought that Daniel Levy was at fault for not letting Harry Kane go. But now I understand that at this point If spurs are to go back to winning ways and great performance, they can't afford to lose Harry Kane since they won't find a better prolific and experienced striker than Harry. Although I still think that sacking Mourinho was a mistake. They should've been patient and at least let him finish the season.

He wanted to build the stadium since 2009, right after winning our last trophy, he made sure spurs were good financially so that the could do this project. Might be one of the reasons for way he handled transfers.

I was born into being a Spurs fan and my first regular match was against Southampton in 1949 at age 10 this was in the old 2nd division and we won it at a canter then the following season won the 1st division title., i remember so well the first game of the season was at home to Blackpool with Stan Matthews and all. They walloped us 1-4.
Although the majority of my life has been spent overseas as well as 7 years at sea I've always remained a true Lilywhite through all the frustrations as well as the wonderful seasons

As a Nottingham forest fan I have a such a soft spot for spurs as we are both the underdogs in our respective league with fast high intensity counter attacking style of play and rich history. I hope one day spurs can win Europe or the league and will always root for them except for when we face off obviously.

I am a Spurs fan, and I would say we have a big fanbase, unfortunately we have an ownership so lacking in footballing ambition that in the two decades plus that ENIC have owned us we've had to watch Leicester City win more us over that period. The owners of the club have always been money oriented, the football has always come second at Spurs.

In the grand scheme of things, yes they're one of the biggest clubs. In terms of the top teams in the world, they've always been in the bracket below the top, never quite making it into that top bracket.
No one outside England considers Tottenham a _"big club"._ Even Celtic is bigger. They have basically 0 history in Europes top flight. They reached one final final.

This video makes me curious about what are your thoughts on the game in general when it comes to comparision across the timeline of say past 100 years or so.
I mean do you thin the big money involed is making the game more fun to watch with cream talents on display. Or the more popular notion that the game has lost its emotional touch and become more predictable.
To be fair, teams have been bankrolled, fixed matches and had unfair financial advantages since the 1800s. The concept of a team buying the league has been relevant for long before the modern era. The level it's at now is just an inevitable consequence of scale in my opinion.
But money has never been the only thing that makes teams win. I think the "romance " of the game is still there. Less prevalent. But still there.
We also have to come to terms with the fact that this is a business at the end of the day.
Quality wise, I can't really speak on that. I started watching football in 2003, and in my eyes the quality has gotten better since then but can't speak on all of history.

As a Spurs fan it sucks seeing Spurs' recent history. We always end up big but slip towards the end. I don't appreciate all the comments thrashing the club, especially since it's gone far enough that I've met people who genuinely think we haven't won anything at all in our history, like literally nothing. But it's a part of football, and football can be brutal because of how competitive it is. But I think our history is still good and we did in fact win a decent amount of trophies. Probably a far-fetched comparison but the analogy is there; going through a drought for a long time doesn't invalidate your worth, I mean Liverpool have gone 30 years without winning a league title. But then again, playing in England isn't easy, there are at least 5 other big competing clubs (the top 6 in general).
It is what it is though. I'm glad we have legends registered in our club's history like Bale, Keane, Defoe, Son, Kane and more. Always a Spurs fan no matter what. Hoping for next season with Conte.

Here in Germeny we have quite a similiar cursed Club with Bayer Leverkusen. They re also always playing at the top and qualify for European Football. But they dont win stuff as they always are 2nd to 5th at the end of the season. They also reached a UCL final but lost of course.
Yes, they won trophys in the past. But the last one was the german Cup in 93. For me its mind blowing, how Leverkusen hasnt won a title since then as they re the 3rd most consistant Club behind Bayern and Dortmund during this time.
