FISHLAKE: Doncaster Parish #28 of 43

- Ok so today's parish sees us back in Doncaster after a couple of days away, and this one's got quite a lot to talk about, and not all for the right reasons. This village was hit hard by a natural disaster only two years ago, when the River Don burst it's banks after 24 hours of solid, non stop rainfall.
The result was the village was a huge flood, causing damage to some 160 homes and even now, two years on, the village isn't fully back to how it used to be. When it is, though, this is perhaps one of Doncaster's hidden gems.
What you find here is really cool. There's not one, but two old windmills, there's a 12th century church, a fantastic carving on the church door as well which apparently depicts the four teachings of the Bible, and that's before we've considered the Old Butchers Cafe and the cosy village pub The Hare and Hounds.
The parish takes in the hamlet of Fosterhouses too, and all around the parish, the fields used for the the main business here - agriculture - all have names. That's a quirky fact wouldn't you say? All in all, you need some money to live here, but you also need to be wary of the threat of flooding. Either way, you'd be daft to not fall in love with this village after a while spent in it's parameters.
Welcome to the idyllic, Northern haven that is FISHLAKE.

At 1:12 you were next to my house to houses down 3rd house
That bridge used to have a road surface of wooden planks when I was a lad. Use to scare me every time I took the tractor over it
Thankfully much better now!
same it, thank god it’s better now!
the mills are either old corn mills or old flour mills I can't remember not old windmills
They still are defined as windmills, although whether or not they had sails I don't know. Windmill World (the link in the description) doesn't have any old photographs, but if I can find some via Google, it'd be cool to have them the Doncaster roundup vid. I'll see what I can find :D
Who would buy a house in Fishlake? There’s a clue in the name.
Honestly, I would. Lovely village. You'd just need to be prepared for the flooding risk
The music spoils it. It is too loud, it is repetitious, and it is inappropriate.
First time anyone's said that since my very first video, and I'm well over 100 in. Can't please them all I guess
@@TheVillageIdiot I think people have almost come to expect loud inappropriate music to accompany amateur videos; maybe that's why they don't bother to say anything. Nevertheless, if I were you I'd think seriously about the music. Look at professional TV programmes - see how they use music to enhance the visual material! It sets the mood and enormously improves the whole production. I think a bit of thought on your part about the choice of background music would make your productions even better. Standing in shot rhapsodising about how peaceful and quiet an area is, with loud upbeat music playing, just looks absurdly amateurish.
@@billwright945 hang on, the part where I'm in shot saying its quiet? At the very end in Fosterhouses?
