  • You've added Engine Restore to your engine. Now what? Everything might be okay, but it can cause issues. Engine Restore and Lubrication caused me a number of issues during this oil additive test. Here, I'll discuss some of the issues it caused, what you can do about it. This is an ongoing process. There will be a part 3. Here's the only good things happening Part 1: • I can't believe what E...
    I can't believe what Engine Restore did to my Engine!
    Engine Restore and Lubrication can be used regularly, according to some online sources, at a 5% solution to your oil. Many small engines like this have a 4 quart or 32oz. x 4 capacity. Times that by 0.05 and you get 6.4 oz. This little Hyundai only has a 1 liter engine and a little less oil capacity so I kept it at 3 oz but 5% would have been 5.6 oz.
    I originally thought I was doing about 5% use of Engine restore and Lubrication but I forgot that there is 32 oz. in 1 quart and I did the math wrong. I want to thank "bill smith" in the comments for catching my error.
    When you need Engine Restorer and Lubricant using less is better than more. Rhkips has used it in a lot of engines and he says it can cause oil starvation and block up oil filters. It contains solids which can get in there with soft metals and fill in spaces which shouldn't have space in then.
    A hint for part 3. I think 1 part Lucas Fully Sunthetic Oil additive and 1 part Engine Restorer will have you in good shape.

    "Engine Restore" is meant to rebuild the compression in your cylinders and it's a super lubricant. It's not meant for anything else and it takes about 200 miles for it to make a noticeable difference and yes it works great. I've used it several times and it works very well bringing back almost factory compression to a high mileage engine

      Thanks for the real world report! It's one of the best reasons to put up a video. I love hearing about other people's experiences. I fixed all the oil leaks on mine before this and the engine restorer caused about a quart to burn off. While it was happening it was running the best.
      I read synthetic oil stops engine restore from working so when I topped off with synthetic I may have stopped some of the benefits. Instead of 53 hp on the freeway I'm back down to 30's but on a 43 hp engine that's okay.
      You shouldn't get a high hp read at higher speeds as most of your power is already used up just maintaining your speed. Still really up from the 22 hp which wasn't enough to get up a hill and increasing speed on the autobahn. I could maintain before but now acceleration is still an option on hills.

      I believe the engine restore caused oil to burn off which wasn't a previous issue for the engine. My horse power is still restored but the engine sounds harsh. It could just be increased compression which is good.
      I added more high quality oil and that helped but (I hope) the final conclusion is in the next video.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  Před 3 lety +1

      Blue smoke is from piston rings leaking oil into the combustion chamber and this could help. Improving that is how it can improve combustion. It works better with conventional oil. A lot better than with synthetic.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado

      Exactly. In Germany it's illegal to change your oil without a sealed floor under you, and with COVID 19 the shop was closed.

  • @thirdgeargrind8033
    @thirdgeargrind8033 Před 4 lety +17

    The reason why you are not having success is because you don't understand the true issue with your car. Your oil cap is telling you your head gasket is blown. Oil is seeping past the gasket into the cylinders, and coolant is also seeping past and mixing with your oil. Engine restore will fix low compression piston rings, but will not seal a head gasket. Your cylinder head is warped and needs resurfaced and a new head gasket and bolts. While most additives are not a guarantee, engine restore is proven to increase piston ring compression. It's the one additive that actually does something. Your best bet is to try Rislone or Bars Head Gasket Fix. I will say, the head gasket fix is a hit or miss. In my case, it did not work because my cylinder head was too warped. But it has worked for others. If you end up trying that out, follow the instructions. If you do not follow the instructions and pour it directly where it needs to go, you could end up blocking the heater core.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  Před 4 lety +1

      I really appreciate you taking the time. Is it possible there is a slight head gasket leak? Yes.
      What you may not know, is that having a milky oil cap when you live in a very wet place is normal even on brand new cars.
      When I change the oil, there is no obvious contamination. A oil test would be more accurate to say more definitively one way or the other. It could prove you or me more accurate on the assessment.
      Something else of interest. This engine has a lot of looser tolerances. When it is cold out the engine is much quieter. If there was more than a slight head gasket leak a small change in weather wouldn't improve things dramatically.
      A thicker oil would help with the tolerances.
      Check out what happened next:
      It suggests my assessment is accurate:
      czcams.com/video/NwO9dnwDgj0/video.html
      You'll also see the oil cap is building up less moisture as it was a dryer couple of weeks for Germany.

    Works too well, only thing is it leaves behind clumps of material I can only assume is the lead and copper if I recall correctly. I would not use this on a dirty engine in any circumstance. It needs cleaning or it will clog all the smaller oil passages, resulting in a very noisy time. That being said seafoam it visually inspect that the engine is clean and then restore it. My 03 Saturn v6 has a filter housing and I found it all clumped up inside in corners of the housing. it improved all of the issues I was having less smoke less noise(aside from a couple loud taps right after adding)it even seemed to add power back, reduce oil leakage. but going back without it later on results in a return of issues after a couple hundred miles. Smokey on startup again and lifter noise returning. I plan to use another can soon. My engine is at 176.5k mi.

Who's going to complain about going from 21-22 wHP on the freeway to 44 wHP? At lower speeds, it was 55 wHP after. I, honestly, hate funnels on the go. They drain fluid for weeks and make a mess. Back home to my garage, I always put the funnel back into a container to catch the oil and cover it to prevent dust. My funnel is good to go after all this time back at home! Lol
      I was in Germany for like 9.5 months and I'm back in NC back to all my funnels which are mess free. Lol

      When I changed the oil pan I noticed the crankshaft was supporting parts loosely for the pistons. I can't believe this engine is still going.
      Maybe it was built to looser specs? The Cams also wiggle but they have little metal springs like what you see in an oil filter giving support to their positions.

    You can't change your oil at home in Germany?
    If they drive your car over a big drain to change your oil in case it overflows the oil container then they really should just lock your hood so you can't do it at all.
    You were pouring oil from oil container to another and could have just as easily spilled the oil on your engine and on the ground.
    For that matter they should enclose the engine in a sealed container in case of an accident so fluids won't escape the vehicle.
    222222 Okay that's like in February on the 20th we saw in military time at 20 minutes after 8 and 20 seconds 20:20:20 02/20/2020 when will that happen again?
    Some additives help for a little while with your problems then you end up having more problems. For instance some additives will cause seals to expand and stop things from leaking. An example would be power steering fluids. My PS was leaking so I put fluid in that said stops leaks well I ended up having to replace the rack. It didn't take long once I started using that stuff. Actually I think it speeds up the wear. So scientific stuff aside did your gas mileage improve? I guess I've critiqued enough. Happy Motoring Ernie oops I mean Dave.

      My gas mileage is definitely improved. I can't give exact numbers yet as I still haven't run low on gas! I normally get 33 miles per gallon (yes I had to convey it from km/l to make sense of it). I usually am about to run out of gas at about 230 kilometers. When I first got the car it was so bad as to go 170 kilometers when I'd suddenly be at 1/4 of a tank.
      I just got below half a tank and I'm at about 247 kilometers in the tank. Definite improvement. Still awaiting the real results and defined numbers.
      And understand I'm running A/C now and putting more load on the engine while getting these results!

    I know this was 2 years ago, but I work on cars for a living. Your previous video showed yellow "sludge" in your oil. A serious amount of it. This additive didn't harm your engine. The moisture in your oil did. You have a blown head gasket, or have a weeping leak into your oil. THAT will cause damage. If you are here to find a review on Engine Restore, this is not it. Watch ProjectFarm.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado

      Worked on cars for a living as well for a long time. Seen my share of oil contamination as well. As soon as I stopped short tripping because this was the beginning of the pandemic and there was no where to go, moisture didn't build up in the cap anymore.
      Moisture is created during combustion. Short trips can cause issues because there isn't enough heat to get rid of small amounts of moisture.
      No water was mixed with oil in the oil pan. No oil was in the coolant. The Engine Restore worked great with conventional oil, and not synthetic oil. Adding synthetic Lucas oil additive only made things even worse.

    Man..... I'm not trying to be rude at all, but as a mechanic, I have to say, you have no idea of cars, how they work, what symptoms mean to diagnose, or any mechanical inclination. Anything your telling people is misinforming them. You have a blown head gasket leaking water into your oil. Adding restore will not remove that water. An oil flush & change would but without fixing the head gasket it Will be right back in the oil in no time. Once oil gets milky it no longer lubricates or protects. It looses all viscosity. Adding fresh oil or restore to that slurry will NOT help anything. I'm sorry about your issues but you should not be making car voids with no clue about cars. And I know technically you can do what ever you wish to, but being a responsible adult human I'd like to believe that your smart enough to see the falicy in that and the problems it can generate by people wrongfully believing you know what your talking about since you say it with confidence. .... I'm not hating and I wish your channel the best. But please stick to what you know.

      Never worked in a moist place or worked on a car doing lots of short tripping? Once I started to explore Germany with it, that build up totally stopped.
      I respect you're worried, but I worked as a pro in shops for years. I just happened to be in Germany for a medical contract as I was surgically trained before I got bored and learned cars. Had an opportunity to make a ton more in medical traveling. I've done that a few times over the decades. Kinda of boring but money talks and it was a lot of fun to be out of the states and explore some place different for a while.
      Go ahead. Been a lot of years since I watched this other pro. He was a pro on Fords and Chrysler. Lots of Fords some years back would get gunky caps like this and some of them got misdiagnosed as head gaskets but it was an issue with too much cooler on the turbo charger.
      Something like 5 but 6 inches of plastic and the issue would stop. Just a tad too much cool air and it'd get too much moisture.

      @@DENicholsAutoBravado I dis watch a few of your vids. 2 on this car and it was what I saw in the head through the cap hole, on the cap, & dipstick. As well as a few other symptoms about power loss @ certain rpms. Ive been a mechanic in America, North East Tn to be more accurate, for 21yrs + (& counting hopefully, God willing). We have lots of moisture here in the mountains and I've not seen natural moisture cause that much water contamination in oil. "Restore" does have powdered particulates of copper, lead, & a few other metals that when heated @ a head gasket leak can melt to build up and block the leak in some cases. Kind of like a head sealer would work. Very similar. But my thoughts on your mechanical abilities also was formed by your V8 having 8qts of oil statement along with a few others. Here in the states unless it diesel or German it only has around 5.5-7 qts. And for the 4cyl it should have taken roughly half of the V8 bottle for proper dosage for the engine. Myself & customers have been using this product in our high milage autos for many a yrs now. Its actually meant for up to 20% of your engines oil capacity. I wouldnt recommend it for extending your oil change though. For that ID suggest either "Amsoil" or "Mervels Mystery Oil". Those are both extremely good lubes. "Amsoil" of course would have to start @ the oil change to swap over to that brand of synthetic. It truly is the worlds greatest oil with a Chevy Astro van running over a half mill miles on the same oil. And "Marvels" is an additive that can be put in any time.
      I truly meant no disrespect. I thought I had made that clear. And i never meant to say your dumb or stupid. Only ignorant to cars & mechanical diagnostics.
