Great tutorial, Nick! I picked up a SBR with the optional orange/black micarta top about a week ago and after giving it a good cleaning and lube it feels great! Would not have been able to do it without you!
Dammit Nick, this was informative and useful, I’m used to you rambling about Star Wars and aliens when you do these, not being helpful. The hell, man, you feelin’ Okay?
My main purpose for watching this video was to see what kind of spring it has. That type of spring would likely last a long time. I have a Kershaw Leek that had the torsion bar break which made it a manual and no longer assisted opening. I normally don’t care for autos but I’m interested in getting a button lock as it is something I do not own and Pro Tech was the first brand that came to mind. I know they make a few manuals but you have many more options with autos when it comes to Pro Tech. But as always Nick you’ve given us good info on disassembly and maintenance.
This actually worked pretty well for the TR-3 but since i have a lefty, the spring for the button lock was reversed but was able to get it back together with no issues...i may have to get a new coil spring for it tho...
Thanks Nick. Looks similar to my TR-4, except for the locking feature. Is there much difference in assembly difficulty? Also, I heard you mention that disassembly voids the Pro Tech warranty, but on reviewing there warranty online today, I saw no reference to disassembly. Maybe they were listening. ;) I've owned Pro Techs almost since they started ~20 years ago. All my Pro Techs (probably a dozen or so) are autos, and I've never had any issues with any of them. :)
Hi Nick, i just bought protech tr-5 spring assist. Do u by chance know if the stud can be moved to the opposite side for lefties? I tried to unscrew it, it just twists around in its hole and nothing else happens. Any help to resolve this? Thank you
Yeah you're going to Federal prison ;) When I was a kid, autos even close to 2" or over in Cali were rare, strictly forbidden, and highly prized. To now be able to buy and own ~ if not carry outside ~ any automatic knife of any size or style is, well, kinda awesome.
I find it pretty odd that many reviewers are A-OK with expensive push button auto knives, but complain about Kershaw’s speedsafe. Besides deployment method, (button vs flipper tab) what’s the difference? I noticed this knife has no washers or bearings. The blade runs directly on the aluminum scales? No thanks.
Anodized aluminum is slicker than washers. That's why there's no washers. Also less parts = more reliable. People like the button vs the speedsafe because the button has a more powerful action. It's a strong spring held in place mechanically by a button lock. Speedsafe is a weak flat spring held in place by placement and friction.
@@oscarmedina1597 Autos are fun to fidget with if you have a good one. Most of my knives are manual too, but I have some autos & see how they serve a purpose.
Somewhere in the murky recesses of my brain I seem to recall that the 2" size limit comes from the fact that on the average person, a blade would need to be over 2" long to pierce the peritoneum, the muscular lining of the torso that surrounds the internal organs. YRMV.
Generally, people like you and I can get away with carrying an auto in a non legal state because you arnt going to come in contact with law enforcement under normal day to day... and like you said its just not legal to carry in certain fascist states so if you were pulled over all you have to do it place the knife in plain view (cup holder or dash or seat) before being approached...
While I see your point, "People like you and I" is doing a terrifying amount of work there, and I'm generally an advocate for knife laws which are truly uniform, reasonable, and acknowledge the utility of tools, no matter what you look like.
@@NickShabazzi was referring to law abiding citizens, not the fact that you're white. I know liberals often have white guilt so I can see how you would immediatly assume the worst. Quite dissapointing to hear you are a proponent of not being allowed to carry an auto. Odd stance to take for a knife youtuber.

Thank you Nick!!! I used this to successfully disassemble my tr3 m1.

Hi Nick! Also, MOAR PROTECH
Did not lubricate the pivot? Who are you, and what have you done with Nick?
Thank you nick .

Nicely done. 👌

Is the disassembly of the TR-3 the same as this?
Why are there no washers is the blade floating between the 2 scales?
Nick. You don’t sound like you’re from Cali. I’d say Flatbush or somewhere off the L.I.E.
Nice knife!!! ^^
It definately looks like a Les George design. That’s a good thing.
Komifornia!(Only because you *told* me not to comment)

I wish they would start making these again. I would really like to purchase one. Nice video I learned a lot.
Nice looking knife, surprised its not blacked out.
Lmao, I’m also in California and for the past 2 weeks or so I’ve been carrying a Microtech Ultratech everyday

Love the blades flying comments hahahaha 😂
I usually use grease to lubricate autos. I find it lasts longer and performs well enough.
At least you can have some kind of auto carry on your state.

I have a 2 inch auto. I don’t like carrying it for the same reason I don’t like carrying assisted knives.
@@oscarmedina1597 You don't like carrying them because...? They open easily?
K-oz Dragon, I prefer the action on unassisted knives. Plus, they allow me to fidget with them.

The only shaolin I know of that has some sort of flying blade is Kung Lao.
That's a nice looking knife. If it weren't for moronic knife laws...
Ah well, maybe they'll make a non automatic version.
USA please go metric,it's just a simpler system of measurement.
I’m with you 1000%
I knew it
You talk too fast.
