You are the goat of blender man
Goat ya god
🐐
Fr
I remember watching your HDR compilation a while back, even back then i was stunned on how the colours were so accurate and life like.
Your comment made me remember something. I have a video saved in my favorites from 5 years ago. I thought there's no way it'd be from this channel but it is!
Fascinating. I learn so much from these videos!
Thanks man!!
the only youtuber I look forward to uploading right now, appreciate it
By GOD! THANK YOU for MAKING THIS! I had been banging my head against a wall for months trying to figure this out!
Watching this video on the M1 Macbook Pro's display. The colors and the dynamic range look so vivid and real.
Agree with you that the quality of the HDR content is may be not a huge leap in the perceived image quality, but the feeling that you get from an HDR video can't be faked with an SDR one. HDR looks definitely more life like.
All your experience with HDR in 10 mins. And you share it for everyone🙌🏻🙌🏻
I just love how simple and easy to understand your videos are. Thanks for that!
Thank’s for answering the EXR part, I was literally typing it in the comments as you started to acknowledge it in the video. These video’s have always been extremely helpful for me, thank you for making them!
Another Amazing video as Always!!
much thx !
cant wait for future videos
This is increbily informational, great video! The HDR workflow is definitely game changing!
love your videos bro, you got me into blender when I was about 12 years old, and now many years later doing the same over-ambitious blender projects
Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos 🙏
Favorite CZcamsr ❤
Outro was so clean and simple, Loved it❤. Also Love your HDR content.. Waiting for more🫶
true commitment
respect
Thanks for making this awesome tutorial ❤
Amazing! Thank you sooo much🙏🏻
thankuuu! very awesome!!
So easy to understand your videos!!! 🔥🔥🔥
love your content! exactly what i love
Ive been looking for this video for years thankyou so much I finally understand lol
Thank you, this was very useful!
Great video man 👍👍👍
6:08 CZcams Shorts *does* display in HDR. To verify, set your M1 Display to HDR video, and it's very easy to see which ones are HDR. Also, right-click on a short > Stats for nerds, and you'll see the Color info to verify HDR status (as it doesn't display a HDR tag, like it does for longform video).
Awesome!
Kudos man!
Thank you so much the process for this is so confusing and chaotic
Also, if you have a 2021 or later MacBook Pro you have the luxury of HDR monitoring in Resolve without any card. It’s just natively supported on the MBP. Used it 1,000 times and love it
Elsker videoene dine Asbjørn, lærer kjempe mye. Fortsett 👍👍💯💯💯
Davinci Resolve 19.3 just added hdr support for windows 🤩
Nice!! I haven’t tried it yet, is it good?
Your HDR videos are super cool and lively. Thanks for sharing all the insights.
I think the videos are re-transcoded using vp9 codec format and hence there's a delay in processing. It's a CPU intensive process, actually. I appreciate all your effort and time, mate. ❤❤
Hi there,
I really liked this video because I am also trying to upload HDR video on CZcams but not getting success. I also went through all the phases which you explained in this video. I watched many video and tried all the method but did not get through. I saw your video and followed all the steps and finally my video is appearing as HDR. The game changer is Quick Export which I was missing. Thank you very much for making such video 👍
I have been doing blender for about a month now and have made really good progress. I love your videos and they inspire me. Keep it up. You have also showed me to just let the creative mind flow and not try to force ideas out, I don't have one question, how do you get the keystrokes in the bottom left of the screen?
thanks bro
4:32 we can trust this Guy
I have tried some HDR testing too (without HDR monitor), just by seeing the graphs. This tutorial clarified it. Thanks!
and I prefer using PQ because it remains same across devices (i think, i might be wrong).
That's HLG, isn't it? Requires no custom LUT for proper SDR tonemapping
"HDR monitor" 🤦♀
Thank u buddy🥲🥲
now we need you to try it on a vision pro
bro you're soo good please do a video on venom
I'm not sure if I understood you correctly but I can see the difference like night and day when viewing HDR content on an HDR1000 display. It's awesome. Playing SDR content on an active HDR display is so much dimmer and more washed out that I would need to turn off HDR on the monitor to have the video look a lot better. However, the screen is still much dimmer.
Nice video! could you talk about your approach to colour grading in Davinci for a future video?
You should make a game boy for your next non tutorial video. It would look sick!
I just shot an video with Slog3. Any tips how would I work with that correctly for HDR outcome? Would love the help thanks!
I am following you and other CZcamsrs to learn blender and honestly your content is always unique . I just wanted to know, i am
Into it for 2months , if from now on i will give it may be 2 hours a day, how much time it will take me to be capable to make it a career as a 3d animator
Amazing Video mate. I love the efforts you take to get the best out of image/video. Even you have mentioned yourself it is incremental upgrade, the efforts done for it was too impressive. 😇
I have a request for upcoming video about Blender Agx to Davinci Resolve(Free) workflow. Troy have only dctl file in official github and implementing that workflow require Davinci Resolve studio version. I couldn't find the cube files as to apply your filmic to Davinci resolve workflow video you have already created.
Any suggestion or a tutorial would be helpful. By the way sorry for the long comment.😄
Heh thanks for the kind comment! Yeah unfortunately I haven’t found a free workflow with AgX yet that keeps all the highlights in the EXR format :(
Tutorial on the robot? maybe maybe?
Your obsession is such a blessing, deep thanks man.
Thanks for the great video! One question, is it correct that both EXR and PNG are exported in sRGB, and then you do the color grading in DaVinci or iPhone to fit the highlights and high saturation colors to Rec.2020?
(I've heard that Blender is internally calculating in sRGB only, I wonder if this is the reason.) I'm using a translator, so there might be some mistranslation, sorry in advance. Sorry for the long comment!
🤯
They dont make it easy do they. Keep it up bud! Kjempe
How do you make that spider (creature )animations so smooth ?
Please make a tutorial on that:)
Question, where you you inspired by your unique style, I don't know but there is just something about it
Do you know about the ACES workflow? I heard that this also expands your range of colors. Do you know the difference between ACES and HDR?
THIS THE BEST WAY TO FLEX YOUR CAMERA 😅😅😅😅
Fun fact that other video of hdr, only one shot was rendered in hdr the rest of the. Was just high contrast clips
I am having trouble getting Resolve to do a workflow 2000 nits [or over 1000 nits maybe 4000?] (From Blender AgX EXRs). I test with QCTools (which has a graph display bug were you need two clips loading to get the range to update to 1K). The Resolve Display Scope (Style now set '...' in scope viewer) seems to only change the range of marks and has nothing to do with the data show so basically just percent so it's not representative of the actual values either. Anyway feels like another video is needed if you can figure any of that 'over 1000 nits workflow]. Thanks for the useful information in this one. I think I see now MP4 H.265 can not handle it, but MOV (DNxHR) can! Sadly it's a huge file though. I think maybe it was to be 12 bit so that makes sense. [Note the QCTool bug went away then too.]
Wow
No entendí nada pero lo vi todo, tampoco tengo el ojo tan entrenado como para notar la diferencia creo. Sin embargo tus videos son tan entretenidos!
🎉 Fantastic break down on your process. Are you going to stick with hdr or not worth the extra time and effort for CZcams?
If not are you sticking to exr for sdr content? Or still converting them to png? If so what's your process for converting exr to png before sending them through DaVinci resolve? Maybe make a short for the exr conversion?
I like that the gradients are really smooth in 10-bit! But yeah It's a little bit extra work, I think I'm maybe spending 2-3 hours extra per video to make them HDR. Regarding EXR, I'm always rendering in EXR with DWAB compression, so if I need to do a HDR render I'll convert the EXRs to PNG in Blender. You can see a brief timelapse of it at 09:16 in this video
@@Polyfjord ah thank you! I was watching this on my phone. I'll be watching this again when I get back on the computer
Geat video man! Can't you just use a HDR TV to monitor an HDR timeline?
Yes technically! Although it can be quite challenging to force the TV into the proper HDR mode without any device in-between. However in the beta version of DaVinci Resolve 19 it's supposedly possible to monitor in HDR in Windows now!
@@Polyfjord hey thanks for replying. I just realise I only use the free version of davinci anyway…so can’t do HDR anyway.
Hey dude, love your videos but I got triggered by the comments about not being able to look at the correct colors in Resolve. You just have to know what color space you are working in and what your output is. I would suggest that you turn off automatic color management and instead use Color Space Transforms on a clip level in the color tab to convert each clip from their source space into Davinci resolve color space and log intermediates, then do your grading in that space and at the end you can output to whatever you want. If you are working on an sRGB SDR monitor you should use that output, then everything will display correctly. Change the output to HLG and rec2020 color space on export
This is incorrect. You simply cannot grade HDR content accurately in an SDR environment. I understand it's tempting to tweak color management settings, but nothing beats a real HDR preview. I recommend that you try it yourself, because it's one of those things one has to experience to truly understand it.
Man, I love agx and have been searching for a way to duplicate the look in grading OpenEXR files!
Bro literally is the brackys of blender
I understand that the difference between H.264, which Blender uses, and H.265, which it doesn't, is put simplistically that H.265 can work on smaller blocks. Is there also a difference in the dynamic range? Also, have you looked at AV1? That's an open source codec which is supposedly better than H.265 in that it has a better compression algorithm. Blender supports AV1. Again, I don't know what the dynamic range is or whether the codec actually affects it at all. Thanks for your time.
Can't wait to book a course for 3D art just so that I can realize 3 months in that my PC isn't enough 💀
I have an issue uploading HLG HDR to youtube. If I upload in h.265 rec2020 HLG, youtube never processes it to HDR. If I upload it in PQ though, it processes in 1-7 days! I'm exporting from adobe media encoder though, I'm going to try your Davinci method. Thank you!
@@UON hey man! I love your work on Instagram! Would love to talk more about HDR settings for Reels, I’ll DM you! Keep up the awesome work my friend!
Man that was so fast
Thanks! But I don't quite get the "you will struggle to tell the difference between SDR and HDR" statement. It's night and day... If you have a SDR and HDR TV side by side every single person would immediately see the difference and be able to accurately answer "what's the difference between the images here?".
And: when you show the wipe between SDR and HDR at around 0:54 BOTH sides are showing in HDR, so I'm not sure what you are "comparing" here.
Anyway, using Color Management in Resolve and setting it to HDR will produce an HDR file as long as you export it to something compatible like h.265 10bit.
Would the process of changing project settings be similar when using Adobe Premiere Pro and the media encoder program(I forget the name)
I'm surprised you didn't talk about bit-rate though, which bitrate is better to export and upload?
i still dont understand why youtube is so uncooperative with hdr content and why the only way ive been able to upload hdr is by doing it with the h265 master preset in davinci. ive even tried to follow youtubes own requirements for hdr content and it doesnt work. only the h265 master preset has been able to be recognized as hdr
Yeah I agree!!
@@Polyfjord ive even taken a Dolby Vision class and that hasn't made anything easier to understand when it comes to exporting it properly
How hard would it be to update blender's ffmpeg? It's just using it as a library instead of a part of its application executable is it not?
Sir,
Come up with some VFX tutorial
Yeahhh that would be super nice 👍 awesome work
Where do you get the music for your videos from?
What about if my video is rec709? should i continue with HDR or directly change it to Rec709?
Only thing is.
iPhone is a 10 bit screen, the shinobi isn’t, it’s a 8 + 2. It’s better to use a LUT on a small HD screen an compress it to 709 to grade using a LUT. Then export it.
However the HLG thing I didn’t know of…worth trying.
The Shinobi uses FRC to emulate 10-bits by quickly jumping between colors. It behaves extremely close to a true 10-bit display, and you won't be able to tell the difference. LUTs are great for previewing, but it wouldn't use it while grading if that's what you mean
@@Polyfjord sorry, but your really do. The Shinobi is at best a 8 bit panel on steroids. I calibrate panels and the gamut coverage and gamma is close to what SmallHD had 4 years ago.
There is a reason why a proper 10-bit monitor from flanders cost a A LOT more.
Also, after testing your video, and HLG myself.
I found no browser on my MacBook M1 Pro that could illustrate it properly, the only one that could was my TV, and my iPhone. All other devices I checked clipped, or just sent a muted SDR version.
@@Polyfjord as for LUT. It is just a look up table, numbers.
When I exported to PQ I had a LUT converting 709 to 2020, which of course didn’t work 100%, but on a 8 bit panel you can make one for highlights, then one for shadows and just flip in between 😇
i dont know much about hdr but i do know that its horrible when i want to watch reels at night on my iphone and someone uplaoads a hdr video
in the Instagram app you can go to Settings and then Accessbility to disable HDR video playback
I wish, youtube had an option to disable hdr. Some videos, like some on this channel are to bright for me, if i watch it at night and i cant correct the brightness with my display setting.
Hmm yes I agree. I really wish we had more control over HDR settings in general! I think Macbooks play HDR videos way too bright for example
@@PolyfjordActually, Apple Silicon Macs with XDR display set to display preset HDR Video (P3-ST2084) track the EOTF almost perfectly, so if your videos look too bright, it’s not the fault of the display.
please help me, I was working on a project that already had many edits. I clicked on the managed color science, and automatic color management (2:09), and then everything became different and ugly and blue. I reverted back to Davinci YRGB, but it didn't go back to original format :( I"m so worried
Can I use my OLED TV as an HDR monitor to grade instead of buying that dedicated display?
Yes you can, but you’ll still need an i/o box to bypass OS color management.
@@JonPais Fabulous! Thank you! I'd imagine the one he spoke about in his video would suffice?
@@01Beaker He mentioned two. You’d have to do your own research.
Is there a free alternative to DaVinci Resolve Studio?
DaVinci Resolve is free if you don't buy the Studio version! But you won't be able to export videos in HDR with the free version
Plz make low polly charector and how to rig and animation 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 plz some videos plz
What app should you use to upscale videos in your cpu (Free only)
I use a program called chaiNNer, I talk about it in this video here czcams.com/video/Jwl48psPrxU/video.html
@@PolyfjordThank you but It wasn't working
can u pls make optimus prime or bumblebee transformation tutorial pls 🥰
Me who thought I had done enough research on the different types of HDR to buy my screen... 😢
And don’t use deck link card. So sorry for windows, got MacBook PRO M1 14. Saved thousands of dollars. It show HDR colors right
Why is my iPhone’s haptics syncing with this video???? It’s literally activating the Taptic Engine and syncing it with the audio through my AirPods Max??????
It’s tied to the video chapters switching…
Please upload logo and text animation ❤❤
How how are the colours in all literally all your videos just top noch
Love u referring to a BBC paper.
Yes I am so grateful BBC made HLG together with NHK! It’s a breath of fresh air in the world of HDR formats that need licensing
Maybe it's time for me to subscribe in your Patreon. So much learning.
Is there any way to do this without dropping $300 on software?
Now this doesn't really work for blender renders. Or it's complicated, can you please make a video on how you produce hdr videos with Blender renders please
At 8:27 he explains that Blender doesn't have really useful HDR support yet. A few seconds later he talks about how he exports from Blender and converts it to HDR. Briefly.
5:15 Imagine spending hours trying to make CZcams see it as HDR, only to find out that the only way to verify if the HDR Video is uploaded successfully is from CZcams's Video Editing tool...
First 30 seconds. Holy $h
I don't care much about HDR or SDR but I'd assume its "future-proofing" content
Hello. HLG colors are washed out. It is much better with PQ. Viewer in Davinci on XDR display are great. Viewing on iPhone or Samsung are great, and matching what I see in Davinci. As soon as I use HLG looks unsaturated, tiny bit, but so annoying. I don’t know what is wrong with it.
Hey man! Hope you are doing good. In your last chess video, you had made that awesome modelling time-lapse. Can you please make a tutorial or something on how to do that ?
Here in this video : czcams.com/video/t-7CFVslli4/video.htmlsi=PZ8JYrC0qJMYO4tf&t=139
Hey!! Thanks!! I used an addon to do it, there’s a link in the description of that video. The addon is a little bit buggy right now, but I think the developer is working on an update for it!
@@Polyfjord Thank you so much
