To be fair, if you watch the old Z dub, they took out the dialogue when Vegito is talking in his head, waiting for Buu to absorb him. Many fans are still more familiar with the Z dub than the sub or the accurate Kai version.

I like how DB fans judge Vegito for losing and Gogeta for winning when they have a combined 3 canon fights and context matters in all 3 of them. Vegito didn't want to kill Buu (and by proxy his friends and family), Zamasu was literally immortal, and the power gap between Gogeta and Broly was way bigger than any of Vegito's fights. Dude was playing on very easy mode while Vegito was playing on impossible against Zamasu. That's not even an exaggeration. Realistically speaking, Vegito is slightly stronger but not by any significant amount, like he'd only win 6/10 fights against Gogeta's 4/10. He did Gogeta/Vegito have both Goku and Vegeta's skills/techniques. Which means Gogeta has instant transmission. If Gogeta really wanted to merc Broly after the wish he could've, but he didn't. Also, Goku used it to give Broly and his group supplies at the end of the movie.

Gogeta could have killed Broly whenever he wanted to. He never wanted to kill him. But at the same time, he had to make that choice. Because the longer that fight goes on, the stronger Broly becomes. And if Broly starts to surpass Gogeta, then it is all over and Gogeta knows that. Gogeta tried to neutralize him without killing him but got to the point where he decided he couldn't risk it anymore.

I like how DB fans judge Vegito for losing and Gogeta for winning when they have a combined 3 canon fights and context matters in all 3 of them. Vegito didn't want to kill Buu (and by proxy his friends and family), Zamasu was literally immortal, and the power gap between Gogeta and Broly was way bigger than any of Vegito's fights. Dude was playing on very easy mode while Vegito was playing on impossible against Zamasu. That's not even an exaggeration. Realistically speaking, Vegito is slightly stronger but not by any significant amount, like he'd only win 6/10 fights against Gogeta's 4/10. The real reason why Vegito hasn’t won a fight is a because they took place in the main DB storyline where there is a rule that fusions that must lose every time. Gogeta only wins his fights because they take place in movies, where the fusion obviously has to win.

Gogetq didn’t let Broly get away, he was literally shooting the finish move at him when we was wished to a different planet. If that finishing move would’ve landed Broly most likely would’ve died.
