In the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z, we were told that Potara Fusion is permanent, but that was quickly changed after Vegito is absorbed by Buu and the supposedly permanent merge is split up. This is later explained in Super to be due to a time limit for mortals who use the potara, but that leaves a very interesting question on the table. What if potara fusion was truly permanent? What if Vegito never unfused? What if Vegito never defused? What if Vegito stayed fused? What if Vegito couldn't defuse? What if potara was permanent? Or however you'd like to put it.
So our story starts inside of Majin Buu where Vegito has just been absorbed according to plan. Now that he’s inside the pink monster he can lower his barrier and find the others who were absorbed by Buu. When Vegito lowers his barrier - nothing happens. This merge is truly permanent so of course there are no issues.
Easily after entering Buu, Vegito is able to locate and rescue Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo. The interesting part here is Fat Buu who’s inside Super Buu - and whether or not Vegito would remove Fat Buu or not. Considering the Vegeta side of Vegito saw Fat Buu fight skinny Buu and Goku saw some good within Fat Buu as well - I think it’s likely that they would. Of course, this begins to revert Super Buu to Kid Buu, but even so - Vegito is easily able to defeat Buu before he can even fully transform. Now, Buu was never the interesting part of this story so there’s no need to linger on it.

I just love how hesitant Vegeta is to fuse, but when they're Vegito or Gogeta they're always just happy to be there
I think a lot of that is due to how well the work together since goku and vegeta have a strong rivalry bond and respect one another and the power is increased.

Yeah, it confused me too, but then i kept hearing “im neither goku nor vegeta” so now i think even tho hes called a fusion, hes not actually a mix, i think hes a completely different fighter and person than both of them summoned by vegeta and goku placing the earings on each one
I know this is a year late, but I'm never bored of Dragon Ball, as "Perfect" a Warrior Vegito may be, I'd still be interested to see at least a second part that does continue to the Granolah Arc and maybe even including SuperHero

Love how you immediately (after dealing with Buu & the after-effects) addressed the issue of Vegito's bigamy. Technically, he's powerful enough that nobody could stop him, and Chi-Chi lives in a remote enough location that Vegito *could* visit her, but that obviously doesn't take into account the feelings of the spouses.
I like your solution, as it makes the most sense canonically.
Naw. The best way is to go full ham and cheese and have Bulma and Chichi use the potara too.

I personally think there could be an interesting conflict with him dealing with his new identity. Maybe that could balance out how overpowered he is.
Perhaps not having the time to see all his kids, not having as good of a spar partner, dealing with the mixed personalities/thoughts of both.

@komodeesan yes but by definition shouldn't the super dragon balls be even more broken? I doubt vegeta could do something they couldn't, I mean they restored the universes that were previously deleted by zeno after all. Not sure why carthu went with this to be honest.

The only problem would be black frieza, but with ultra instict and a way higher potential they should be able to beat him. Though its hard to say sinse we dont know exactly how strong black frieza is.

why not fusing everyone? then there is no actual problem at all and with gotenks permanently fused he can also be really powerful and redeem himself... i guess you could go a far stretch and make it so merged zamasu occurs if you really want to stress it so trunks and mai stay and then you fuse them with gohan and videl (after mai and trunks have a bady so you could fuse their baby with pan) and then you have a truly big family of just fusions.... not only that but the warriors coming from the family would just be.... insane.... this is stretching it far too much but whatever
just imagine the raw potential of the fusions and the transformation combinations there would be.... kaio ken and evolved..... ikari and ultimate.... even if it only is the main super saiyan forms the fusions would be insane

A hilarious scenario I have for Chi-Chi and Bulma is how they also fuse using the potara in desperation, creating the universe's strongest wife material. Imagine the strength of her and Vegito's child. Might as well end the series there if I'm being honest.

That’s what I was hoping to hear happen. Kind of sad no one ever takes that route. Pretty sure that the Potara fusion is Chima, while the dance version is Bulchi, with each one physically taking more after the person who’s name came first in the fusion name.

There's probably some weight to that if you look at the manga. In the Goku Black arc, Fused Zamasu didn't properly separate like Vegito did. Whether it's because of Zamasu's immortality or not is unclear.

This is by far my favorite fan made story you've done. It's so awesome it should've been in the anime.
It's not even Vegito being op. I just like his personality, and with less conflict for big chunks of time, there can be a lot of character development. Enemies could just be upgraded, so they don't get steamrolled. An explanation could be that that's one of those universal laws: The stronger you get, the stronger your adversaries.
That seems to be how it works. For shaky reasons, it feels like the entire setting is constantly being rebalanced to the top fighters like multiplayer matchmaking, or more accurately the Oblivion levelling system.
@@Supahdenning Sometimes it's a shame that stories stay away from huge different concepts prolly because people might say it's an ass pull that justifies the whole power scaling. But seriously, you just have to sell it correctly and not make it too intrusive. Better than not to address the coincidental power matching at all.
@@daelaenor I think the power escalation should've been toned down on Namek, with Freeza's 530.000 already being more than enough for his full power to be overwhelming. Shooting up to 120M and needing to make SSJ a 50x multiplier is why things get silly from then on.
@@Supahdenning It wouldn't have been silly if they had illustrated it correctly. A fight between SSJB and Golden Freezer should have shaken the universe and destroyed earth just from fists alone. Fights should reach their climax in a matter of seconds since they're all faster than a human's brain can compute and the eyes can see.

This was literally a thing in that popular fan Dragon Ball Multiverse manga with multiple universes fighting in a tournament that was around years before the tournament of power and Dragonball Super.
One of the universes had a Vegito that just never chose to unfuse. He ended up just being with both Chichi and Bulma iirc. The Bra from that universe came from Vegito and was also silly strong.

Everytime I see a Vegito "What If" the Dragonball Multiverse comic always comes up. The part where Vegito doesn't choose Chi Chi or Bulma was a brilliant move.

Vegeta does a lot of horrible things because he thinks it's the right way to achieve the right goal. Paragus did the same. He did a lot of awful things but because he thought it's the best for broly and not because he was pure evil. So what makes someone good hearted? The way you achieve the right goal? Then vegeta and paragus both wouldn't be considered good hearted. The right intention? Then vegeta and paragus are both not bad guys.
It's a thin line and dragonball doesn't make clear how that line works which is important when you have literally attacks that only harm bad people!
I guess in the new clause of the Potara fusion being "truly" permanent, they can't use the dragon balls to defuse; but Kibito Kai used the dragon balls to defuse into Kibito & Supreme Kai.
The story works better with them stuck but yeah that was something i caught immediately x3. I would rather they just not ask for it

Perhaps Kibito and Kai being non-mortal would have something to do with it. This would at least have room in the lore considering that in this version of the timeline, human fusion is permanent. Maybe the scales would flip in this way.

The dragon would easily split them up but then in black arc merged zamasu showed up after the fights according to the animé and it feels impossible to both saiyans for fight him so goku and vegeta asked for a fusion .At first they both didn't want to fuse but then they agree so that they will fight him.

Ive personally always felt like vegitos personality and style of fighting has always leaned more towards vegeta. I feel like vegito is how powerful vegeta could be if he had gokus upbringing and vast array of teachers and lessons. Its sort of my own head canon but also we've seen how powerful vegeta has gotten on his own from just shear will and hard work where as gokus has had many teachers, many power boosts, and things taught to him that vegeta didnt.
I think the limit to revive someone once was removed when the dragonballs were upgraded by Dende? other than that, I loved watching this what if and plan to watch a few more while I'm here!
Nope. The upgrade was to 3 wishes, but if wishing more than one back, 2 wishes would be used.
I think the wife problem is super easy to fix. Vegito's fusion is permanent, so it doesn't matter if he removes the potara earrings or not. He hands them to both wives and they fuse as well. All the children would just then be siblings and share their parents. I feel like the wives wouldn't have a fusion name, though, as it would make the legality of Capsule Corp ownership a little sticky. So they just stick with Bulma's name. This has been my AU headcanon for a long time 😅

@@shadowblade5303 Not at all. Vegeta, Goku, Chichi and Bulma are not related in any way. The goten and Gohan would stay as regular brothers, they’d just have a step brother trunks. Not like they have any attraction to each other.
Honnestly, the fanfic Dragon Ball Multiverse solved it in another way, that is quite interesting, and more legit in my opinion (I doubt Chichi and Bulma would agree to fuse just because their husbands fused): Chichi tells Bulma she can have Vegito, because since Goku has been dead for years, she's already used to not having him around. In this universe (technically it's a timeline, but they call them universes in DB Multiverse) Vegito is Bulma's husband and Bra's father, but he still often goes to visit Chichi, Gohan, Goten and Pan.

Because in that story setting it was permanent, until someone used the Dragon Balls to split the Fusion.

They hadn't retconned it at that point. Still, they're the same people that made Budokai 2 and somehow Vegito just de-fused on the second to last stage of Story Mode or whatever it's called with no rhyme or reason. Considering how op they made Kid Buu in that game, why wasn't it an option to keep playing as Vegito for the last stage? Probably would've been too easy I guess.

@Xene Dvalin this is a vegito that had been training for countless years. Was already Ssjb level even before he got god ki and has far more potential then almost anyone else in the series. This vegito would far beyond any fusion we have seen in the actual series and would probably already have access to ultra instinct. Jiren would stand no chance against him
@Xene Dvalin he’s quite literally the combination of goku and vegeta. Goku had a hard time achieving ui because he’s too relaxed and vegeta couldn’t because he was too on edge all the time. Did you not watch the what if or?

Just because it was literally the reason why he lost against Frieza in the first place. Goku did not have the correct mindset during that arc, only that he was closer to get it in comparison to vegeta.

Yeah, I disagree with the wish not working. The super dragon balls are supposed to be able to grant any wish. The whole point of it is that it was limitless. Also, we've seen them bring back people and even universes that don't exist anymore before after the tournament of power. But I guess consistency takes a back seat to the plot in the anime too, so why not?
I could work if they said that with time goku and vegeta merged more and more to the point there is no goku and vegeta anymore just vegeto. I don't know if I'm explaining right but this would mean vegeto has become more than a fusion but an entirely new being meaning he can't be unfused

Wait, Before Potara was retconned, the explanation was that it was Buu's magic that split up Vegito. If they kept that, and saved Fat Buu, they could still defuse using Buu's magic.
The idea is that the fusion is permanent which means the fusion cannot be undone. In the what if itself not even super shenron could defuse them and buu is definitely not stronger than super shenron.
Plus the potara was never retconned as no explanation was given to the defusion pror to super.

That was the established fact, the "mortals time limit' was something introduced many years after, meaning they retconned a previously established fact as just as a coincidence, the coincidence being that at the same time Vegito lowered his barrier, his "time limit" was up.

If Porunga can split the potara fusion of Kibito and Shin, then there is no way Super Shenron cannot split Vegito. I mean he's powerful enough to restore multiple universes in an instant.
It’s specifically stated that Super Shenron’s wish power is Omnipotent. No restrictions or limitations at all. Regardless if you want to Potara Fusion permanent, you can’t change and bend the source material because it leaves so many plot holes, makes the what if have inconsistencies and it pisses the fans of the franchise off.

I'd love to see a version of Dragon Ball where the fusion is permanent in every way, but have some clear downside to the fusion like either... They tire out faster or transformations don't last long. Something like that.

A good way to make the AU more "workable" would be to have it so the 'bad air' within Majin Buu's body actually messes with the Potara like it was originally suggested to, except it has the effect of 'solidfying' the fusion with Buu's magic or something like that.

Well, they had one wish left before Beerus told Shenron to get lost. That wish could have been to bring them or locate another pure hearted Saiyan. They go to Universe 6 and borrow Cabba, the end. So there's a lot of possibilities there.

My only issue with this interpretation of a permanent Vegito is that he wouldn't ask to be defused. Vegito and Gogeta are their own unique people, just like Gotenks is. Goku and Vegeta (and subsequently Trunks and Goten) become one unique person with their own personalities. The dominant aspects of each person fuse together to make a potara fusion. If actually permanent, Vegito would be perfectly happy being around
Unless he cares about both his families enough to sacrifice himself to give his families their husbands and fathers back.

That actually makes sense. It creates a huge impact in the story, as fusion can never be undone via any means. Characters would not use it as additional power up, but more like an ultimate sacrifice.

And they'd also know that Goku and his friends had still been helping protect them all of them for all these years and they probably treat them as the heroes they are as well.
And maybe Goku and the gang would tell their stories while of course making it seem like Hercule helped in the Cell games and Buu fight but they'd say Gohan really killed Cell and that Goku helped him from beyond the grave, but they would say Hercule was blinded or something so he thought he beat him when he didn't.
Would be neat if chi-chi and bulma fused as well. The ultima wife, Bu-chi!
