  • / loisdavidsonart www.etsy.com/uk/shop/OwlsAndF... Today's demo is a simple loose watercolour landscape painting inspired by the work of Ron Ranson. It's taken from my photo of the River Cuckmere, the photo is provided on Patreon.
    It is suitable for beginners or intermediates. My paper is Saunders Waterford cold pressed, 11" x 15"/28c, x 38cm. It isn't pre-stretched, it is taped to my board and my board is at an angle of about 45 degrees. I use large medium and small Pro Arte Ron Ranson hake brushes, a small calligraphy brush, but you can use Ron's favourite detail brush the Rigger. I also use a 3/4" flat brush and a plastic card to etching in details. I use a limited palette of raw sienna, cobalt blue, light red, cadmium yellow and paynes grey.
    Many thanks for watching!

    I could just park on a deck chair in that spot. A let the day flow past at it's sedate pace. So serene and stress free.
    It's beautiful Lois. Thank you for helping me in my mental suffering.

    I have a couple of the Pro Arte brushes and some of Ron Ranson’s books. I love his loose style and have been a bit intimidated by the hake brushes. Your lovely painting is inspiring me to pull them out and work with them. Thank you.

    I've had a Ron Ranson brush for maybe 20 years now and whenever I've used my painting turned out a mess. I will give this a go though and if it also turns out a mess it will go in the bin. I don't know why I can't control it because I used to use a large Frank Clark goat hair brush and that was fine. They are similar. We'll see.

    • @LoisDavidsonArt
      @LoisDavidsonArt  Před 2 lety +1

      It holds a lot of water so you have to keep it quite dry while you paint otherwise it will flood your palette and/or painting

    • @WolfmanWoody
      @WolfmanWoody Před 2 lety

      @@LoisDavidsonArt Well, I tried it and a little better than last time, but one for the bin, I'm afraid. Thanks anyway.
