This scene was improvised, they never told that actor that he would actually get lasered right in the face and he took it in stride. What a champ. RIP to him.
Yeah they mada a perfect opening it was like they wanted it to be possible but they didn't think he would do it. Then the shock and then 🥳. That kids gonna get this head popped I feel it.
@Kira Its possible, Soldiger Boy knocked him unconscious from a hit into a wall. Starlight got a nose bleed and she tanked sniper rounds. Ryan may be powerful but he isn't as durable as he can be yet.
That smile Homelander gives after everyone starts cheering, despite doing so many terrible things and clearly not caring one bit about how the public will portray him as, you can't tell whether the nervous smile actually becomes genuine or has that fear hidden behind it.
I don’t think he’s scared of anything he can be himself in the publics eye. No more hiding, no more covering up his deceitful acts, he’s finally able to show how much of a monster he truly is. You can tell he completely abandoned his humanity when he referred to butcher as just a “human”.
@@wilsoncoleman113 I think they're referring to how he may be scared of thr influence he has or the people themselves, because it does sort of look like that. When Todd screamed yeah, you could see homelander being taken back. Then, when people start cheering and he starts awkwardly smiling, you can see he's either nervous or scared and he even says "all right" as if, "wow, all right, these people are crazy and don't have a problem with what I do" I don't think he's scared, but just really shocked and a little nervous since, obviously, this is not a normal reaction.
I heard he was in this other show called Banshee and I heard that one was really good. Once I’m done rewatching The Last Airbender I’m gonna check it out and you should too
That smile is actually terrifying because you know that Ryan now thinks he’s superior to everyone and can also get away with killing. He’s gonna be Homelander 2.0 and the nightmare continues across generations. First, soldier boy, then homelander and now Ryan.
Ladies and gentlemen, Homelander just learned that he can do whatever he wants. If you read the comics, you know what that means. Dear sweet Jesus I didn’t not expect this…my notifications are absolutely destroyed.
@@nonGigi ya its dumb… its forced into the show… fuckin stupid. Not everyone watching was a maniac who thought trump was a bad president. Whats goin on now is wayyyyyyyyy worse than when Trump was in
This scene is scary for two main reasons, homelander realizing he can get a way with so much more, but what’s worse is the fact that Ryan enjoys the power trip and royalty treatment even tho I guy just got lazered in front of him, meaning he can literally be homelander 2.0 which was something his mom was always scared for
one thing also is that , ryan will be even more "admirative " of his father because he know homelander want to be loved but at this time when the guy attacked him , between being loved by everyone and defending him homelander choose him without hesitation . And that's a big thing for a kid who has lost his mother and was essentially abandonned by his surrogate father .
What I like about homelander's mouth quiver and like facial contortions before smiling is that it tells us that he was actually wondering if he was having another one of his hallucinations like the anti-vought rally and the mirror sequence. Homelander has never killed an innocent american civlian in front of an audience before and I think the reason why he did this wasn't actually on purpose. I think once Homelander developed an ego he would fantasize a lot about punishing those who wrong him or are a threat to him, but these delucions were kept in check by Vought feeding his super large ego and making him numero uno. But as of late as his world started crumbling around him, constantly seeing everyone 'betray him', having to become more and more violent, that the lines between reality and fantasy for him are starting to blur so killing that guy with his laser was a knee-jerk response. Thats why he looks around, almost like he was thinking "shit did I actually just do that?" and then when people start cheering for him he really gets confused and actually for a moment thinks he might be dreaming but when it dawns upon him that this is real he is filled with such immense joy because for the first time in a long time there are people who love the 'real' homelander.
I don’t know what’s more creepier. The fact he’s willing to kill people to protect his son, the fact he actually killed someone, the fact the crowd praises him for it, or the fact that his son is gonna grow up just like him.
0:33 These facial expressions are Brilliant acting on Starr's part. You can see him slowly realize once again, except now seeing it firsthand, that his fans actually like the 'real him'. And steadily realizing all the things he can do with this, before laughing. This is the biggest victory on his part sense season 1
He really is amazing, isn't he? It's like watching someone come apart at the seams in real life...but he's just got that menacing edge to it. Perfect for HL.
Every face he makes in this show is gold for a different reason. My new favourite I'd say is him milking the cow, his expressions are so good it had me rolling.
I guarantee that a good chunk of his supporters were actually terrified when HL killed the guy but cheered afterwards because they didn’t know what else to do.
My thoughts exactly brother, whoever reacts first to what Homelander did the crowd will follow along with because of mob mentality. Unfortunately the first person to react was Todd and we all know he's a blind Homelander worshipper who thinks he can do no wrong.
@@generalgrievous3423 Yup, I was thinking if the first one to react showed disgust or fear the crowd would've went with it. Such a critical moment. Suddenly if everyone seems okay with it, they'll all pretend it is okay and not a horrible murder
Todd actually didnt did this out of fear just look at Todd in 3x2 when he is looking at the news and homelander is giving the iconic speech, Todd actually enjoys that and likes that he is even smiling at that.
Typically there are just 2 ways these type of things go. One is that the son becomes stronger than daddy and joins him or that the son becomes stronger than daddy and then beats him. It is almost never the case where they have something like a superstrong father then going on to kill his son as a main plot of a TV show. So to be fair him growing stronger than Homelander always had like a 50/50 chance of happening, question was just if he was going to kill Homelander himself to just replace him at the end.
@@DelValle144 I have. SPOILER: In the comics it becomes the example 1. He becomes stronger than his father and revenges him by beating space Freddy Mercury towards the end of the series. Show could always still take some artistic liberty and go a different way though ofc.
But they should have ended the season at herogasm. The fight with soldier boy just felt so dumb. With the evil that Homelander is responsible for, even Ryan dying or Vought tower exploding would have been justified. Now they want to go against Neumann because she is going for the presidency when Homelander has just lasered a civilian to death.
@@vanillabatcave5677 Tbh I think the show has worked with the original story and modernized it in a way that utilizes it's original concept far better. Character's have far more depth, the humour is still wonderfully dark while feeling a little less edgelord in comparison to it's comic counterpart, and it's gearing up to have a far more interesting ending than the godawful comic one.
It's legitimately so terrifying how Homelander was able to just straight up murder a guy in broad daylight and have his fans just accept (And cheer for) the heinous shit he does.
@@victhebric66 if someone throws a soda can and hits my little son that hard in the face I will reciprocate it back but worse. And if I had homelanders powers there’s a small chance I would do we he did given the circumstances.

I found the ending with ryan going with homelander satifying because it paralleled what happened last season with ryan going with butcher and goes along with the theme of this season of the boys mainly hughie and butcher becoming the heros they strived to beat, and butcher who had pushed ryan away with his tough parenting became just like homelander in a way
@@dhgmrz17 if you seriously think that then you shouldn't have children lmao. Butcher basically pushed Ryan away just because he wanted him to be safe. He knew he couldn't be there for him but also knew Ryan would seek him out, so the only way to have Ryan out of danger was to make him hate Butcher. Homelander on the other hand does not care about Ryan. He likes the idea of being a father and having a successor, someone as strong as himself. He took Ryan now to have a leverage against Butcher and to play on Soldier Boy's feelings. He has now manipulated Ryan enough that Ryan does what Homelander wants but once Ryan grows and Ryan starts to have his own ideas and starts to disagree with Homelander, this loving father facade would quickly fade and basically what happened between Soldier Boy and Homelander would repeat, unless of course Homelander has brainwashed Ryan by then, then the cycle just repeats. So while Butcher is terrible and hurt Ryan really badly, he genuienly cares about him and did what he had to to keep him safe.

Homelander’s first public violent outburst, and the public (albeit his biggest fans) cheered him on. This is definitely setting the stage for a new Homelander in season 4!
Lame. We're running in circles. I thought this season was supposed to be about killing that maniac. @@dominictoretto3592 uncharacteristically? Come on, Ryan is the last living legacy of Becca. He’s not letting the kid get killed. That much should be obvious if you’re paying attention. An aspect of this scene that I really love is Todd being the first guy to cheer. Everyone, including me, definitely was happy when the little pissant got knocked out by MM for how he was endangering Jannie and undermining MM as a father. But that very action is probably why he got such catharsis from seeing the 'enemy' getting his head blown off. A display of strength to cover over his weaknesses. If MM hadn't thrown that punch, maybe the crowd would have turned on Homelander. We'll never know, and the cycle of violence only grows worse and worse
I'm just here to say this has to be homelander's cleanest kill. Usually when he lasers someone it's done in a clumsy or careless manner that damages nearby objects or people.
IDK, he looks like he's a bit nervous. Maybe it's a misread. But it seems like he's thinking of the longer term consequences and backlash once it hits the news cycle.
@@icspps I think it's rather he's having a hard time believing this love that his fans have for him. They saw his violent impulse and are praising him for it. The one thing he was very worried about was his public image. Now he can truly be himself and people love it. He is so much more dangerous now, there's not much holding him back if anything at all. Edit: let’s gooooo I’ve never had so many likes in my life🙏🏻
There's a scarier darker truth behind it...people is terrified as hell, but deep down, they know, there's nothing they can do, to stop him...so, they pretend they saw nothing... They could manifest against him because he never reacted, but now that he did, and they saw whats is he really capable of, the finally understood, they're doomed

The reason this is so horrifying is because we all knew that Homelander would eventually snap. But when he finally did, it wasn't the "everyone run for your lives he's gone too far" moment we thought it would be. People cheer. Over the past three seasons, we have seen the gradual deterioration of society. Huge numbers of people, fed a steady diet of lies and propaganda designed to validate their worst thoughts and impulses and keep them angry and scared at all times. The ending of season three shows just how far gone society is. It was a lightbulb moment for me, where I realized that once people have decided that the enemy truly is their enemy... then are there really any rules? You could see the gears turning in the heads of the people in that crowd, as they were momentarily stunned to find that they did not consider murder and violence to be taboo if it was done to the enemy. A brief moment of rational thought, where they tried to reconcile the gut feeling that killing is wrong, with the overwhelming propaganda and hate they had been brainwashed with. The sheer horror of that moment comes when their humanity is overcome, and they begin to cheer. They have opened Pandora's box. Crossed the Rubicon. Whatever you want to call it. The point is, they have come to the only logical conclusion you can ultimately draw when you believe that the "other" is truly a danger and your enemy: nothing is off the table, and violence is acceptable. This has happened before in history. And it is happening to us now, is it not? My guess is that season four will show us the sort of insane nightmare that we just might all be plunged into, if we cannot find our way back.
Pretty much summing up modern day America unfortunately. You’d think republicans would be appalled at an attempted insurrection but nope they actually cheer that they want more of it.

I feel like Ryan is going to be the final boss of the show. He's going to be egging Homelander on and when Victoria and Stan try to browbeat him into submission like they do with his dad, they learn the kid is way more dangerous and smarter than his papa.
And just like that, Becca died for nothing. She gave up her life so that her son would not turn into Homelander. And then he turns into Homelander anyways.

Love how throughout the series he's worried about his image and he always holds back from doing what he wants in public, but as soon as his son is hit he loses that control and doesn't give a shit. He definitely loves his son.
Like I said, all of those fucked up supes at Vought have one or two admirable quirks that rival their atrocities. Like Crimson Countess actually love and care about Chimps and their well being. The Deep loves ocean and its animals, etc.
Nope! He realised that if you have power then no one will punish you for a mistake no matter if it's a small or big one. Like homelander told him. He won't be mad at Ryan if he makes mistakes...
Both statements are correct. Psychos will always have their fanbase. And those who are most powerful will always dodge condemnation. Or at least, most of the time.
This scene is just so well done from the awkward silence to homelander’s facial expressions taking us on his rollercoaster of emotions, to the way the violin comes in at the perfect time with a sound that carries both elation and an impending sense of doom. Can we all just appreciate how amazing every single individual member of the cast and crew was for this scene? Every extra playing that knife's edge of terror and awe at Homelander murdering that man, who's own acting was superb silent terror, exploding perfectly into cheers. Homelander's boiling anxiety into raw joy at being accepted not for what society is supposed to be, but for what he's molded society into. Ryan's realization that, compared to living on an isolated shelter and visited by Butcher who seemingly abandoned him, he prefers being loved and cheered on for what he is- that hiding and rejecting Homelander before when he's forgiven him and shown him so much was wrong. I am amazed the cast and crew is as talented as they are.
I agree with all of your comment except for the “[Ryan] hiding and rejecting homelander before when he’s forgiven him and shown him so much was wrong”, the way you phrased this makes it seem like you think Ryan was wrong to hide from and reject homelander LMFAO, unless you’re strictly just describing what Ryan’s perspective was during this scene (obviously despite how wrong it is), in which case you’re absolutely right
I found this scene particularly brilliant. It shows you two fathers who don't deserve to raise their children - todd and homelander. They both love their children, but are intrinsically toxic. Homelander, because he is literally invincible and todd, because he is obsessed with homelander's potential and is blind to his malevolent nature. Ryan realises that physically, he might be homelander's replica, but morally and emotionally, he isn't. This also re emphasizes on the generational trauma, that is a major theme throughout the show. Butcher being unhappy with his abusive father, soldier boy being unsatisfied with homelander etc.
I mean, Todd's about as blind to Homelander's malevolent nature as pretty much any Jane and Doe in the country, because the Vought Industries and its allies cover up most of Homelander's misdeeds. And MM didn't do a good job to making Todd see the truth about the Homelander, quite the opposite actually.
It isn't that brilliant. The whole series they have been focusing on the power of social media and how people always have their phones. Hence, people not having any phones to record this event doesn't make sense.
@@galactus889 People didn’t record it because it happened in the blink of an eye. You think someone is going to whip out their phone and start a video in the INCREDIBLY short time frame between Homelander’s son getting hit and Homelander lasering the dude’s head off?

do you really think the show that mocks trump gives a fuck about him getting shot. This scene is not comparable to that.

He’s become creepy!
@@Nonyabusiness1115 bro what why would homelander kill Ryan homelanders already a piece of shit so he wouldn’t care if Ryan gets corrupted

All those jokes about Homelander raising Brightburn seem to be coming true afterall.

But they should have ended the season at herogasm. The fight with soldier boy just felt so dumb. With the evil that Homelander is responsible for, even Ryan dying or Vought tower exploding would have been justified.

@@vanillabatcave5677 Tbh I think the show has worked with the original story and modernized it in a way that utilizes it's original concept far better. Despite Homelander being a terrible person, he honestly has been better father to Ryan than Butcher has.
@@dhgmrz17 butcher and homelander are pretty much just as bad as eachother. They are two sides of the same coin
Nah bro preaching, can you be our next president?

Like homelander told him. He won't be mad at Ryan if he makes mistakes...
Both statements are correct. Psychos will always have their fanbase. And those who are most powerful will always dodge condemnation. Or at least, most of the time.
Homelander is like a republican senator who was accused for sexual misconduct. He gets a high five at the water cooler instead of sent to jail
@@BeaverChainsaw when has that ever happened? And pretty sure the current president is known for being creepy with kids.
He'll be more evil than Homelander
This scene is just so well done from the awkward silence to homelander’s facial expressions taking us on his rollercoaster of emotions, to the way the violin comes in at the perfect time with a sound that carries both elation and an impending sense of doom. It was just chef’s kiss 🤌 and the prefect way to end the season in my opinion. I’m stoked for season 4!
How os it well done? It makes no sense whatsoever that the crowd would cheer.
@@Brandon-1996 a bunch of idiots who got brainwashed their whole life about godlike hero homelander, love him for showing "who he really is". Obviously they'll chear when homelander will show his power to protect his son
Yesterday marks the day that this actually happened god my are souls rest in a man with no regard for are life maybe we all reap in the afterlife for what will happen
The crowd's reaction is pretty realistic actually.
Yes. That's why it works. Read the comments and everyone is trying to rag on Trump and Trump supporters, but it's reversed lol. It's conservatives tearing down statues in the show, it's libs tearing down shit in real life. This show rags on everyone, that's why it's good.

I agree with all of your comment except for the “[Ryan] hiding and rejecting homelander before when he’s forgiven him and shown him so much was wrong”, the way you phrased this makes it seem like you think Ryan was wrong to hide from and reject homelander LMFAO, unless you’re strictly just describing what Ryan’s perspective was during this scene (obviously despite how wrong it is), in which case you’re absolutely right
@@FirstnameLastname-zq8oy Yeah I'm describing his perspective. Don't worry I'm not a lunatic, just appreciating Ryan's negative character arc
The most terrifying thing about this scene is you can't tell if people are clapping out of fear, or our of joy
Most likely out of joy And whether you’re liberal or conservative it makes you wonder what the hell have we become?
Their are on the extreme side of political view and when your favourite superhero kill a political opponent of course they will cheer
@@gururu1286bro wtf else you wanted them to do, try to beat him up?
Homelander good saint + enemy bad idiot = cheering for a murder. Amazing what media can do
@@decriper1097not validate him bruh😭
0:25 Bet you’re not cheering right now Todd!
@@Thomas-te2lgYeah I see OPs comparison but this was more about Homelander finally snapping and passing that habit onto his son
Who tf is Todd?
Homelander and Ryan realizing he could get away with doing this in public is gonna open up some very unfortunate doors
Thanks to the Trump Supporters
@@pastoryoda2789 Oh yes, the next season in the first episode Homelander will fly to that white house and will kill Biden, then Trump will appear behind Homelander and will say "All according to plan" after that he overturn's the government and he declares himself as the God emperor of the USA.
The episode ends with Trump riding Homelander while he's flying and destroying China.

Man Antony Starr is such a great actor - he nailed the expressions and emotions, you can see the thoughts on his face like "Oh shit I fucked up this is bad", then "no way, am I actually gonna get away with this?", then at the end "I'm Homelander, and I really can do whatever the fuck I want"
