- This video is how to remove the firing pin and extractor form your S&W M&P FPC bolt assembly and how to rebuild it. It is important to know this as these areas get pretty dirty and need cleaning, the extractor gets really dirty fast.
**WARNING** The pins (2) and extractor spring are small. If you lose them, you will NOT be able to get the parts easily or fast.....
Just put mine back together, and like a dummy, i pulled the trigger..had to refer to your video on recocking..so now after cleaning and reassembling i now learned i have to take the bolt apart..glad i found this!! Its amazing how these little tutorials you put together will be helping people years from now!! Thank you!!
Glad I could help
Thank you for this! I thought I'd broken my bolt when springs and pins fell out during cleaning and wouldn't go back in. Turns out I was putting them in backwards! You saved me a trip to the gunsmith!
Good. Always happy to help.
Thank you sir!!
Your best video. Thanks much! I'm a new FPC owner.
Thank you! You will like the gun!
Thank you very much for such an important lesson how to care for firearms!
You're welcome.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Great video! Very well presented! You got a new subscriber. Thanks!!!
Thank you!
Great Job!!!! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Good info. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I know you've created disassembly videos for 2/3rds of the FPC. Can you do a video on disassembling the firing controls?
Another outstanding video. Thanks so much, AGAIN! BTW, another new sub for you.
THANK YOU!
Thanks for the video. I just bought a FPC yesterday for steel challenge. and today i shot about 10 rounds out of it and sighted in a Sig Romeo 5. I cleaned and lubed it. And Started putting it back together and the firing pin retainer pin fell straight out of it. i didnt press in on the firing pin at any point while cleaning. It just fell straight out to the floor as i slid the bolt back onto to what i call a carrier.( I think thats what its actually called?) I am pretty familiar with pistols and shotguns. So im not sure why the pin just fell out. It may be something to watch out for as these FPC's become more widely purchased. Maybe they aren't fully set in at the factory. Or maybe mine was just a fluke thing. Im hoping more accessories come out for the FPC, It does need some style and some performance upgrades.
Mine hasn't fell out on it's own, but it does come out relatively easy with very little force (almost none).
Great video. You make it look easy to do. How do you clean the firing pin hole? I shot 15 rounds through my new gun, and it was really dirty.
I use a pipe cleaner.
Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about that.@@hollowpointdefense
The pipe cleaner has always been good for me and I had had no issues at all. @@ccowboyearl01
Great video! Helped a lot!! One question, do we need to oiling the firing pin or extractor (the internal of the block)?
I don't.
What about lubing the raised edges on the entire bolt assembly that makes metal to metal contact through the buffer tube?
Fell free to oil what you need to do, I do. The back half I just wipe it down with oil.
Awesome video thank you. I finally found time to send some down range with the FPC. On my 3rd mag it stopped firing. I racked several times and still no luck. Realized there was no primer strike on the ammo, after some research found several people had an issue with the firing pin falling out so I disassembled to inspect. As my firing pin did not completely fall out, the retainer pin for it is no longer there. Reached out to s&w but still no answer. Where can I get parts for this. Thanks again.
Not sure where these can be had, I have been trying to get some for spares. I will call S&W tomorrow and see.
One thing I have seen, is when people take these apart, they need to be aware that the pins can fall out real easy. Really need to pay attention to those when cleaning/tearing them down.
@hollowpointdefense my pin is definitely outside in the driveway somewhere 🤣. I took extreme care taking this thing apart in my office and nothing fell out during disassembly. Thanks for looking into this for me.
Have you thought about a video on cleaning and lubrication of this carbine? I can't find one! (You showed a good part of the process by the end of this video)
I will do when after I use it this weekend. :)
@@hollowpointdefense ,great! Thanks!!!
I took mine apart and pin fell out. I was able to put it back in per your instructions but I notice , the spring I have is a lot smaller than what you show here and when the firing pin is sitting on top of spring before I put in retaining pin, it barely sticks out, no where near the resistance you showed. This why when I take it apart and barely tap or touch the firing pin, the holding pin falls out. Should I contact S&W to get replacement spring?
You should, I am sure they will send you one.
cool thanks
No problem!
I have been trying to get the firing pin and extractor pin out with no luck. Yours look solid as mine are roll pins as I can see thru both holes. I called S&W and they have to idea. I really appreciate your videos. I saw another person comment as having same problem as me. Have been able to find anything out?
The roll pins will have to be punched out. Mine are pin, not a roll pin and they come out really easy.
Thank you for all your videos. I followed this video to clean and oil my sw fpc bolt, including taking apart the extractor. After re-assembly, i got issues with the extractor. At times, the dummy rounds would go further inside to the left rather than eject thru the right which causes to jam two rounds in the chamber. Any thoughts on this issue?
Make sure the extractor spring gets put back in the correct way. I will try to replicate the issue.
Thanks for the reply. I did replace the extractor spring and it had some improvements in ejecting the dummy rounds. But I'm not satisfied how far/forceful the dummy rounds eject from the chamber. Will try to contact S&W. Again, thanks for the help.
Nice to know info. I purchased one and the bolt failed on the second shot. I put 50 rounds thru it and only 5 fired. All the others had no markings or scratches of any kind on the primer. Sent it back to S&W and got it back in 3 1/2 weeks. They totally replaced the bolt with a new one. I've watched almost every video on YT about this weapon and the major failure seems to be the bolt. Your thoughts?
I have heard this around the web, but the 5 I know that are in use have had no issues that I am aware of. Mine has approx. 2,000 rounds through it now.
I went to S & W web site. How do you buy more springs firing pin and retractor ?
Cal S&W and request a set, I have had no problem getting some from them.
I just got this gun. Haven’t fired it yet. I took my FPC apart and the firing pin came out on its own along with the pin that holds it. I put it all back together like you showed in your video. But it won’t charge the trigger for some reason. Any idea what’s going on?
The trigger will not reset.
Go watch this video to if this may have happened: czcams.com/video/-_FcoGvFWxA/video.htmlsi=93vc5kwRH5PE2Rv7
Try seating a magazine in it, if it doesn't go all the way in, your hammer has been activated and is all the way forward. If this is the issue, you will need to reset the hammer in the cocked position.
@@hollowpointdefense I saw your trigger video too. I couldn't seat it with my finger so I bought a wood dowel and that managed to do the trick. It was at such an awkward angle for my finger to access. So thanks for the tip.
After only 60 rounds through my FPC the front of the bolt and extractor are very black. No amount of scrubbing or parts cleaner has made a difference. I've seen the discoloration in this video and mine is much worse. I've put a total of 100 or so round through. Is this normal or should I consider contacting S&W?
No idea, mine cleans up easily.
I had more rounds, but was very dirty like yours. Had a hard time cleaning the bolt. Suggest you fill a small lid/dish with gun cleaner and but the bolt on its end in the cleaner. Let it sit overnight. See if that helps. I might try a “better” amo. It might not get as dirty❓
@@dougbell5950 I tried Hoppes (was using another product) and a more aggressive brush (was using nylon went to nylon and brass) and managed to remove 99% of the dirt and grime.
I went to clean the firing pin/bolt and the extractor pin comes right out without depressing the extractor spring and while depressing the firing pin I can't get the firing pin out at all I even tried all different pressures on the firing pin and even lightly tapped the pin it will not come out. I tried oiling it to lube it up still no luck. Any suggestions?
Do you possibly have a roll pin in it? Other than that they should come out will little effort.
@@hollowpointdefense I just got off the phone with S&W they told me the earlier batch of FPCs were having problems with the firing pin so the "new versions or newest and beyond production" of the bolt and the firing pin is permanently in there and is not to be removed. They also said you can probably get the pin (little nail looking pin) out if hit hard enough and then say goodby to the pin and your warranty it will be treated as abuse and will not be covered under the warranty. So if it doesn't come out with ease don't bother.
@@davidjacobs5261 that is interesting to hear, so how is it to be cleaned when it gets dirty!
I received one of the first ones. Mine has roll pins and not the nice pins that yours has. I can see through the holes. They must have changed them.
Interesting. I will have to look into that.
Mine has roll pins also. Called S&W and they had no idea what I was talking about. Said no changes had been made.
Yup I have roll pins and the old firing in as well. Going t email S&W and see what they will do about it.
