*Visited in 2014. Stocked up on Blem Bullets, Met Steve Hornady. Had a really great Conversation, leaning on that very Counter. Probably talked for the better part of an hour. (He signed my 1st Edition 2-part Reloading Manual)...He gave me a hard time because I had some Nosler Data notated inside the front cover..LOL....Took some Selfies. Was given a 1st Class Personalized Guided Factory Tour by a VERY NICE Young Lady. It was just Her and the two of Us...She even took Us down to the test firing tunnels. You will not find a better, nicer, classier company, with nicer people, anywhere*

375 ruger was a collaborative effort with hornady and ruger now it is almost impossible to find and $4-$5 a round and you can't complain? All they do is design new calibers that are "better" slow production on the tried and true until everybody jumps on the bandwagon and there will be something better again that cost more making your old calibers cost even more because they are low volume or obsolete local gun shop just told me 30-06 is not a very popular cartridge is why they do not have it in stock but they have 6.5 Creedmoor. Creating a false demand for an otherwise unneeded object to drive up sales

I am feeling the love for Hornady’s product line and production fulfillment. Unlike Remington, who has lost credibility with all their jibber jabber about trying to keep up with demands, while in fact they are benefiting by shortages with higher pricing. Almost feel like Remington is gouging and not listening to their loyal consumer base. I am pro Hornady and will walk past Remington products to grab a Hornady. Shooting and hunting is the sport…not screwing the consumer.

The raw materials are costing them more because a lot of it is going to military production and exported to Ukraine/Isreal and whi knows where else. Larger munitions is in the mix too. If you haven't been following the industry several of the European manufacturers have canceled orders to the U.S.. They're stocking up their own country's military requirements. That should indicate to one that the world is in a precarious place.

Hornady make good bullets....not excellent but appropriate for their price point. My main complaint is their range of bullets for the 7.62X54R, 7.65X53mm Arg. or Belgium, 7.7 Japanese and .303 British. Their bullets are nominally listed as either .312" or .311" but generally run a thou to a thou and a half smaller with a subsequent reduction in accuracy. I stick to SMKs or LeHigh for those calibers.

  • @johnnorman7708

Sometime around the early 1970s when I was a kid, I found red boxes of Hornady Frontier Cartridges in .30-30 piled on the counter at a local store that had grocery, fishing and hunting stuff. The price was much cheaper than Remington and Winchester. Told my Dad about the fantastic bargain. "Never heard of them." was his reply. He wouldn't buy any for me to shoot. Didnt buy anything else either. He was so tight on ammo it was unreal.... Hard to believe this huge powerhouse company was fairly unknown by non reloaders 50 years ago and had already been in business two decades by the early 1970s. They can't be overlooked or missed now.

They are making as much as they can but if people stockpile more than they are using, there will always be a shortfall. Look at the uk, we can get everything except primers.

Great video and tour! I used to go there often for blemish bullets. And got a tour. I can’t believe the expansion in 15 +/- years. My wife and have used MANY V-Max bullets on prairie dogs and several Jack rabbits to chum in coyotes and feed Burrow Owls.

I’d never thought about the counter-cyclical aspects of ammunition and component manufacturing. Being able to buy CNC machines for 10 cents on the dollar or hire 35 qualified people all at once certainly makes expansion less expensive. However, you need the quality control and training systems in place to take advantage of those opportunities. Most of all, you need the corporate culture to sustain quality and innovation.
Now would you *please* start making 8.6 Blackout brass?

Ahhh .. His Grandfather knew how the money changers operate! He was wise to their methods of taking over businesses, so he diversified the company into multiple entities. There’s an invaluable book that was written in 1890 called “Great Red Dragon - London Money Power” that should be required reading for every high school student in the World. Hornady was no doubt aware of Henry Ford’s stark words as well, relating to the unscrupulous parasites. People in modern times have long since been lulled to sleep, and Ford’s words have unfortunately been forgotten. Read the book! It’s something that will change your views of our current culture forever.
