I had the chance to meet Irene Rudnyk ( Photographer and famous CZcamsr) when she was visiting Paris, we had a fun afternoon of shooting with weird lenses, during the time she was experimenting with my lenses, i had the time to test out my new Konica 57mm f1.2 wich is referenced online as the finest F1.2 lens ever made.
and I was more than amazed with the results.

I know Irene for almost A year...she is so Awesome.
HI can you give the link for this glasses? Thanks
one of craziest and wonderful boke to me has Olympus Zuiko 55/ 1.2 and a bit better technically one 50/1.2. At the same time, It is a quite modern sharp and contrast lense made in 1980.
“I’m not built like a tank, I’m more built like a potato”🤣 You wonderful human being, you!
OK, I subscribed to your channel because of that comment😊
@@hansemannluchter643 To MY channel? 😅 Thank you! I don't do videos on photography, videography or lenses, but thank you! I hope I won't disappoint you..!
This is the best lens i have... other than the lens being super nice.. it has a huge sentimental value to me.
My grandfather gave my dad the lens along with Konica auto reflex camera .. im glad my grandfather had great taste.. so happy he didnt settle with kit lens..
Well, there goes my chance of finding a "cheap" one of these. Been looking for years and now they're gonna sky rocket (again) : )) Great portraits Mathieu, thanks for sharing
i found this one by total luck, so ... everything is still possible
Sheer luck, indeed. Last week an old search alert triggered and I bought a copy for EUR 29 (yellow EE one, without rubber ring). I consider it fate and I am truly grateful.
yesterday: konica hexanon 57 1.2 $250-300
today: konica hexanon 57 1.2 $650-750 :/
I love Konica Hexanon glass but the 1.2 is expensive compared to other Hexanon glass
@@esppics21 1.4 version is good also and 10x cheaper) until review though😂
@@92OnTV review is coming sooooon
@@MathieuStern noooooooooooooo 😂😂😂
seems they will be stuck with their lenses a long longer time...the lens suc big time... i am just completing my fuji f2 line up
"If i say a lot of yeah, it means, it's really good"..... Hmmm, good to know 😂
Une chouette vidéo sur un objectif au rendu féérique.
Mais la modèle dégage une certaine grâce qui emporte et ne laisse pas indifférent !
Bravo à vous trois !
Outstanding photo session, fascinating results.
Nice shoot. That bokeh is whipped cream! Really love the flairs on the konica 57mm.
Thanks, Mathieu! I am in love with the lens, and Irine.
Oh Matthieu, c'est incroyable ce rendu, Merci de nous faire découvrir ces bijoux bien qu'il faille débourser de plus en plus de monnaie ! Incroyable cette vie au travers de cette lentille, organique .
I'm a fan of your work. I bought the 35mm f2 because of you, and now also the 57mm f1.2, but I have bought it before I saw this video. Now that I saw it, I feel better with the purchase.
Wow! This collaboration!!!)
You make inspiring videos. Very grateful to have found you
Minolta Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 & Nikkor Noct 58mm f/1.2 are the finest 1.2 lenses ever made. Change my mind.
Canon FD 55mm f/1.2 Aspherical SSC. Crazy sharp wide open on a 50mpx sensor.
I had both the Rokkor and the Hexanon. The Hexanon has better bokeh (less cateye shaped balls on the sides). Its minimum focus distance is 45cm whereas the Rokkor's is 60cm, which makes a huge difference in practice. Can't say anything about the Noct 58mm except that it is clearly overpriced ;-).
Best. As always
Old lenses are the best one they're cheap 2 a warm image. One of the best lens’s I ever used was set of cooks I used for a romantic scene it gave me a nice warn buttery look. I have all way wanted to own a set of Cook lenses. There's just one problem a set of cooks cost more than my house. But then I bought this Nikon off of eBay it was made in the 70s it gave me that look I was looking for and only cost $30.00.
Which Nikon did you buy?
I was made in the 80s too.
Great video, thank you.
Great stuff! Great looking model, great lens and great photos. I have a Sony a99 A mount which is a different mount than your Sony so I am curious to know which lens adapter you used???
Amazing video thank you
Beautiful Gunnera Manicata plant in the background!
Super vidéo (au parc floral ?) le bokeh est incroyable, et l’ouverture et très intéressante pour son prix. Bonne continuation
Still haven't found a good deal on one of these, but I did pick up a canon a-e1 recently with a 35mm f2 ssc and the 55mm 1.2 aspherical for less than 200 dollars.
Holy smokes, mind blowing stuff.
Finally got my Hexanon 57mm f1.2, bought in Japan for 350$, with mold damage of coating on the rear lens. But even with this defect the performance is amazing. It has a character of rendering similar to Rokkor 58mm f1.2, even if they have differen doublet Gauss type designs. My version had worm shift of WB, so I had to treat the glass under UV light, now WB is nearly neutral. Love this lens, however new Voightlander Nokton 50mm f1.2 Asph on my opinion is better.
I have the 50mm f1.4 Konica and the 40mm f1.8 pancake lens, these will have to do. Lovely model.
I've had this Konica lens for maybe 4-5 years. Got a nice copy for $400 at Adorama
Cool. Back to back vids with Irene & Matt then Matt & Irene.
Lucky to have one in my collection :)
Great job Mathieu... Be well and stay encouraged!!!
thanks a lot Jacob
Great model, interesting lines.
Just happened to stumble upon a Konica autoreflex T1 with a 57mm 1.2 lens!! It was free but I know nothing about cameras, I got it as a "souvenir of the time" not realizing it's still in working order and the lens just happens to be one of the most sought after Konica lens.
How much?
Love the retrowave song! :) And the lens of course! Hello from France :P
Hey, thanks! Merci
I own the Konica 57mm f1.4 variant, which I had no idea was equally as rare! Even now when I looked it up on ebay I couldn't find one, and my god, what an amazing lens. I bought that lens to use on my Fuji X-T10 as my very first lens and that time I had no idea just how important and impacting to my photography that lens would be. I'd say the Konica pretty much shaped my photography, and most of the time I still shoot with that lens.
Not as rare to find today. Favorite lens rn, but I'm about to get one of these. Good to see another konica 57 lover
okay, now i'm in love with vintage lenses.....
I found one today for $5! Can not wait to use it one a project I have been preparing for five years
5? Omg.........
I recently bought a Konica with the 57/1.2 at a foto store. For 100 Swiss francs! Couldn't be happier! Such an amazing glass! I love my other Konicas, I have a couple, but this one is the top gem. Since I will only adapt it to mirrorless cameras, I did remove the rear baffle to get a round bokeh ,-)
lucky you !
@@MathieuStern You bet! Had to check the lens a couple of times, and also did ask more than once: 'One hundred, really? OK' 😊😍
i have found one for 50.- chf on facebook marketplace... I LOVE IT too!!! 👍😀
My Yellow EE version just arrived. Solid as a rock. Focus ring is smooth and glass is clear with maybe a slight radioactive tint. I'm excited to test it out. Definitely feels different than other lenses. Thanks for the video.
Very nice!
Cool lens!
Being built like a potato is a great achievement. Potatoes are Awesome.
sharp!
1:14 Something mysterious about F1.2, always fascinate me...
gorgeous model and beautiful bokeh!
thanks a lot
Hi Mathieu, i'm now using EOS RP and planning to have a manual 50mm lenses. Any recommendations?
I started getting into Konica Hexanons after finding a 57mm 1.4 at a Goodwill and I have most of the lenses in the set now. Some are really nice and worth every penny but others, particularly options on the wide end, are so-so and not quite as different as others. However, I would believe the 57mm 1.2 to be fantastic as the 1.4 version is easily my favorite. My only problem is that they’re basically stuck as mirrorless lenses without risking a drop in quality from an optical adapter for another camera mount so that limits their filmmaking potential somewhat unless you already have a higher end mirrorless RAW video camera. Thankfully Nikon added a RAW video option to the Z line so that’s a start for more compact filming and opens up more opportunities to use these great bargain lenses!
For the wide ones, check the 24mm F2.8, but the latest version, the one that has F22. It's the only 24mm lens I have, I love it.
And this is true for most Konica lenses, most of them have 3-4 versions, and in almost all cases the latest versions perform better.
The 35mm f2.8 has almost magical color rendition. Haven’t been able to compare with the f2 yet.
Konica Lens are great I own a 57mm f 1.4 takes great photos in low lighting.
Great shooting . Bien faites :)
Merci
@@MathieuStern de rien mon cher ami :)
Hello, I recently got canon super canomatic R f1.2 and is this a macro lens? It only seems to focus in the range of 1 foot, when adapted to Canon 6D and BMP6k Pro and is that because of the flange distance or is it really a macro lens or am I using the wrong adapter (FD-EOS). It has a bayonet/FD, but since it doesnt say FD or FL, just R, so I'm not sure.
Waaaaw nice channel find. I like your videos 😊
love me some old vintage lenses
Heyy Noealz Konicas are the best. I have a colectione of them.
Idon't have that one..
But i've been doing fine with my 50mm /1.7 and the 40mm/1.8.
Check me out on instagram.
vumeter730 you're a nice human being🙏🚶♂️📷☔ Just got a few fotos there but i will put some more..
Love shooting too💪💯
This is a very interesting - i will hope to get same results in my videos with the Konica 57 1.2
Is the earlier version of this lens with the metal rather than rubber focusing ring just as sharp? Found the older metal focus ring version for sale at a good price...
I want the link to the glasses LOL
BTW nice dreamy photos as usual Monsieur Stern!
just type kaleidoscope glasses on eBay and buy the cheapest you can find
@@MathieuStern What does it call? TIA
Wow! Great shots. May I know the camera for video that you used on this content?
Me too.
I have two of these lens. My favorite
Nice video, love your work! Have you ever tried using Tomioka Auto Revuenon 55mm f / 1.2? ,i am and i think this is the best 55mm portrait lens! These two lenses are very close to each other in quality! I used that lens on an analog camera!
not yet, but i will try to find one
That is an impressive sharpness at 1.2
Hi Mathieu, I took a leap of faith and bought this beauty for 400$. I got chrome nose version in near mint condition. The lens feels super nice, build quality is top knotch!! I love it so much 😖 thank you for this bro
This is my first manual lens. Tbh I thought it gonna be blurry soft and sharp as the old man glass given that it from the 70s
I was so wrong! This is the kind of sharpness I always wanted; just enough to define the object.
Do u prefer this konica 57mm f1.2 over rokkor 58mm f1.2?
Any suggestion?
I am fortunate to own the Konica Hexanon 57mm 1.4 Sometimes that .2 or .5 difference can make such a jump in price. I think sometimes a lot of lenses that are the considered the “best” are called that because the are the lenses that are used by great photographers that are just really happy with the photos they took with it. They are not going to use a Konica 1.7 when they have a 1.4 and if they have a a 1.2 they are going to use it and relive their satisfaction and appreciation for the lens while other lens don’t get a chance to shine as well if not perhaps capable of nicer looking photos. Don’t get too caught up in “biggest” apertures I figure, just shoot wide open or close to it, get close to your subject , compose your backgrounds pleasingly and say, “Yes! Your beautiful, yes, yes, yes! “ and hunt for sharpness where it counts the most as if your life depended on it. Just my thoughts. 📸

lol. Very professional
I wonder why most women shoot like that
Really enjoyed this video - caught a flavour of what the day was like for you guys, a really fun time and friendly atmosphere.
And oh, the model! Cyrielle is so beautiful and graceful, she brought tears to my eyes! Looking at her, my mind immediately exchanged her with Kate Winslet in the famous 1997 Titanic movie. She has the kind of natural, unforced aristocratic elegance that the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater really called for, and that Kate Winslet could never quite pull off (being more like a younger Molly Brown, lol)
There are still some gems out there. I know of one that should be worth more than this, but you can still get them for $50.
Hi Mathew.... any chance to put my hand on one of the Pictures ( RAW ) of the 57mm Hexanon Ar F1.2 ? I need a really sharp fast lens to use on Pentax Q for get most of the 2 secs Max exposure time to do astrophotography stacking... thanks for share.
Great glass. Did you have to get an Adapter to use it on a Canon?
i used it on a SOny A7II
konica should make some objectives /komplex zoomables with this kind of lenses !!!
love the 80s music :)
Realy cool.
Gorgeous center sharpness, but for some strange reason, the bokeh seems slightly annoying to me , and I'm not really a bokeh addict to begin with. It's also interesting to me that in 1980 this lens would probably have cost around $350 to $400 USD brand new, but now sells for almost twice that used. At least with this lens, you still get what you pay for. Nice job, guys.
Yeah, very busy out of focus areas... Can look great in some shots, or busy and distracting in others. One of those characteristics that can add magic if done well...
I have the previous version of this lens, but afaik it has the same optical formula. I also paid €300 for it, back in 2011 or so.
It indeed is excellent at f/1.2, way better than all my f/1.4 lenses (Pentax-A, Super-Takumar, Rikenon (Tomyoka), Hexanon) at full aperture. It’s clearly optimized for use at f/1.2 at portrait distances. At >2m the performance drops. Stopped down it’s a good all-rounder. Not as sharp as it’s f/1.7 brother, but usable.
I also have the Canon 55mm f/1.2 SSC Aspherical (bought for €25 at a thrift store, together with a Canon A1 and 135mm f/2.5. That was a very good day). That lens has similar performance to the Hexanon. Excellent at f/1.2, but stopped down it’s not sharp enough for all round use.
I must say that I use the Canon a lot more than the Hexanon, but that has more to do with the solid (but kludgy) FD mount of the Canon and the flimsy AR mount of the Konica. That lens dropped from my camera once during a rock concert. Luckily the rubber lens hood saved it.
Ouch, i would have a heart attack if this lens feel off the camera
I'd love to know how you think this stacks up to the Voigtlander 50/1.2 that came out relatively recently.
well, strangely enough voigtlander didn't send me the lens ... so i don't know yet :))
Hi Mathieu, great channel! I plan on buying this one but in doubt as to what version: the all-black like you use here, or the early version with the silvery aperture ring - any difference or doesn't matter? Grand merci, cheers, phb
Both are great, the silver version is older, so maybe take the newer one
The newer one can still be found for reasonable prices too (though the silver one 'looks' better imo, but that's not a good reason probably). Thx for your advice. Have a good weekend - I am going to try out the M42-NEX tilt-shift adapter I bought after seeing one of your vids :-)@@MathieuStern
She looks goddess. She looks divine...☺☺☺
I love this👌👌👌
What adpater did you use?
have you ever tried Canon FD 55mm f1.2 SCC? It looks nearly the same as the Konica and does an amazing Job on my A7III
i have the FL 55mm f1.2 SCC but this one is really bad compared to the konica
Nice collab :)
I Love the music
Wow...
Is there an adapter for the Sony a7 iii?
Is there any adapter to mount this lens on my Canon 6D?
I bought a Konica auto-reflex T in 1972. Still shoot it. I do not have that lens.... mine has a 1.8 and I must say, I still like this camera... never tried that lens. I was struggling to raise two kiddos and keep up with the monthly bills. Not much extra money for camera gear.
These pictures are nice
Your camera back pack looks nice.
Please make a video on the Nikon 50 1.2 and 58 1.2!
please send them to me :)
@@MathieuStern wish I could haha, old Nikon lenses need the love too! Cheers, Monsieur
The 58f1.2 is around $4k!
Abhinay Raikar had a 58 1.2. Not sharp and generally not a very good lens.
I would love to see a review of the CZ Ultron 50mm 1.8 or the Canon FD 55mm 1.2, simply to validate my own purchases ;) . Though both lenses were a steal.
If you put the subject twice as far away from the background as the camera you will have nicer bokeh. Put her one meter away, the background two meters and see what I mean. Nice video, great lens.
Good point!
Beautiful bokeh👌
(www.amazon.fr/Fotofiox-Pro-Adaptateur-dobjectif-appareils/dp/B00CDS8V7G/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?__mk_fr_FR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=konica+AR+sur+nikon+fotodiox&qid=1562870983&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0)

How does the minolta md rokkor 58 1.2 compare to this particular lens in quality and character mathieu?
Minolta and Konica are both amazing lenses so I would think the Minolta is great too but the Konica is just amazing
I see that you really like the center sharpness of the konika. How about the out of focus areas? Opinions seem to be quiet polarised online!
I have this lens… it’s a rare gem.

No one is talking about that Sony aiii camera in front of which even a plastic lens would produce great colours . Add to that some morning warm light . Voila !
