Helios has character, quirkiness and uniqueness while Canon RF is just simple, clean, and surgically sharp. This is how these two lenses portray reality. Great comparison, Irene.
I see that you fell into the rabbit hole of vintage swirly bokeh lenses after we met in Paris :)
The next step would be to test out projector lenses that swirl like crazy, like the one I posted on my channel a month ago.
😂😂😂 definitely! And yes testing out your projector lenses would be so cool!
The environment really lends itself to the Helios bokeh more. Another comparison in an urban environment would be lovely to see. Or, simply, another video featuring this vintage lens. Oh, and Shannon too!
Vintage lens for EVER! 🤘😎 currently all my work its made with a auper takumar 50mm 1.4 🙃
That’s my other top fav lens
@@donaldmfalls i really love it, getting that cinematography look from it its priceless!
That sounds cool! I’ll check that one out
I like both for different reasons. The Canon is so sharp but the smoothness of the Helios is beautiful.
Totally agree!
The colors are amazing here. I love this red dress with all the greenery. I still like the 85 1.2 for the overall look. I do love an awesome bokeh.
Gorgeous hair/model/captures/editing/images! Thanks for sharing!
Photos you took were amazing. Both the leses produce good images but defenitly helios one has a character to it and its magical.
I personally love the bokeh and the way sunlight is handled when it is handled well. The sunlight on her hair is amazing.
I prefer the RF - just because of its sharpness and still beautiful bokeh!
Tough call. Love what you did with the Helios, you really know how to play to its strengths and got beautiful results. The Canon is, by contrast (pun not intended), is so sharp and popping the results look almost AI - again very artistic. I think it comes down to taste - I think I prefer the Helios as it feels more imperfect and authentic, but that’s just me.
I owned this lens for 8 years and it is still on pristine condition! Loveeeed the lens to death!!
Even my “old” 135/2.0 from Canon can still do magic. Especially in half shade. The photos look like well-lit Hollywood films. Especially with large, massive backgrounds. Keep up your good work and greetings from Germany.
always did magic in every shoot... excellent.
Wow! Very nice content ❤ i love this video ❤
The quality of the lens is stunning
I love your shooting style, the model, and the little stepladder that you carry everywhere ;)
The Helios makes things look a bit more dreamy and I like that. But the canon 85mm is so damn sharp! Wow
These are stunning! Always love your work and your videos!
You always find the most beautiful models.
😏😏😏
So awesome work with both lenses ⭐
I prefer the Canon RF images as they are more contrasty and have nicer colours.
I prefer RF85, it looks amazing
Amazing as always Irene. Make sure to check out the Trioplan, Domiplan and Pentacon variants.
Love it! I've had the modern version of the Helios 85 1.5 for years. (about 10 years ago they re-released it with the same formula but on modern EF and F mounts). For those who love this look but don't want to spend $500+ you can get a similar look from the Helios 44-2 or 44-4 which both are M42 lenses that can be adapted. I also recently purchased a Helios 81N which has a Native Nikon F mount on it for less than $100 and LOVE it so far. It isn't as good as the 85 but is super light and works beautifully as more of a casual portrait lens when I don't feel like lugging around the 85 which is heavier than my 500mm wildlife lens. ;)
Also, if you love the look of these lenses but hate how soft they are wide open, I highly suggest using Topaz Sharpen AI in combination with a Helios lens as it can make them look a lot sharper than they are. It won't fix the edge distortion but it will improve the overall sharpness of the main subject so long as you keep the main subject in the middle of the frame.
Don't forget all of those Helios lenses (58/2 and 85/1.5) easily cover GFX sensors for even more bokeh!
Love the unique flair in the Helios lens very dreamy vintage presentation…
Magical ✨ love canon.
Use an extra long lens hood for the helios to control the flare and you will be able to shoot into the light and not get the bad contrast. with a long enough hood, you just have to tilt the lens down a few degrees to block the sunlight fromm hitting the front.
A Irene é minha maior inspiração 🥺
i always find it relaxing watching your videos 😌
The best compliment :)
The RF85 looks amazing! You can definitely tell it’s super expensive
I think while the Helios is fun and interesting as a one off the other one is cleaner and the there is plenty of Bokeh but its less intrusive in the image. Thanks for doing the comparison.
First of all, you are an amazing photographer who is a true artist with a camera. As for your question, this is just my opinion, but I prefer whichever lens gives you the look you want for that particular shot. I saw pictures where the f1.2 lens was preferable. I also saw pictures where the f1.5 lens with the crazy bokeh did the trick. I carry 2 prime lenses, and one zoom lens in my bag. I carry a 35mm f1.8, a 50mm f1.8, and a 55mm-300mm f4.5-f5.6 lens, because I never know what I'm going to get into when I go out. I use all 3 lenses, depending on what I want in a shot. When I go for a walk without my bag, I put my 18-70mm f3.5-f4.5 lens on my camera. So I beleive there is no such thing as a personal preference when it comes to lenses.
Irene is able to create stunning images nearly everywhere and with any equipment
Soviet era Helios is not a slouch. Actually I like those images even more than razor sharp RF85
Gives me a lot of Snow White meets little red riding hood vibes. Great pics.
Wonderful video!! And beautiful model.
I love Evoto as well. Makes editing fun again and so much easier🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I need to tey that Helios lens.
I have the 44-2
Helios has character.
Big thing a lot of people miss with the Helios 85 is that it will cover a GFX sensor easily and can even be pushed to full frame 645 with some DIY skills for some ultimate bokehlicious background (the Biotar 75 will also easily cover GFX).
I like the magic from the Helios, in the end, I prefer the consistency of the regular 85 - and thank you for sharing the info about CapCut.
The colors are great (red dress in green environment)
I do love the simplicity of combining complementary colors
每次看你的视频都是一种享受
Both…. BUT…. The 1.2 also wins for me
Irenko ! Dzięki Twojej Sztuce pamiętamy jeszcze czym jest prawdziwa kobiecość. Dzięki i pozdrowienia !🌺
Thank you!
I think for me neither stands out, in that they both have really good uses. In terms of the final comparison, I prefer the series shot with the vintage lens, but it's mostly because they are, in my opinion, the more interesting photos. If the situation were reversed I'd probably still prefer that series vs the other if you had somehow the lenses you had shot them with.
Very Very Good explanation and comparison. Also, very good clicks .
You take an Enormous amount of shots during a photo shoot. You should do a video on how many shots you take during a photo session, how you pick which photos to keep and which photos to delete, how many photos you actually edit and how many photos you actually deliver to your clients.
I think I take a pretty normal amount of photos 😂 maybe 800-1000 per shoot, it’s better to take more then less, you don’t want to miss a moment and it doesn’t cost anything. I don’t do anything particular to choose, just look over them and select my favourites.
Thank you sister for sharing this video ❤
7artisan 50mm f1.05 is giving me nice bokeh. Also very sharp at 1.05
Best❤
Beautiful bokeh. Similar to my helios 44-2, although less crazy ;)
Гелиос хорош! )
Я сам иногда использую свой MC Гелиос 44М-4 вместе с Canon R5. А раньше стоял на плёночном Зените...
Hello How do you maintain proper exposure when using a 1.2 aperture with a shutter speed of 1/250-800 or maybe a little bit higher without overexposing the picture?
Wait waIT WAIT WAIT... how did you pull this off with this model? I've seen her page forever and always wanted to shoot with her. Props to you!!!
I dmed her and she said yes lol
videographer. nice work
I will tell my husband ! 😂
Helios a time machine back in time, a color that everyone wants in this digital age..
All of the images are beautiful! I prefer the Helios images - tack sharpness is not as important to me as color and texture. What a lovely model!
I wish someone would remake vintage lens designs with modern glass and coatings. Same character and rendering with a bit more clarity. If I were a millionaire I would do it myself. Probably no market for it though
There are bunch of those on the market
I feel like Irene you'd enjoy using medium format camera more given the way you crop some of the images. I think a 44 x 33 sensor would fit quite well.
I do love the 4x3 4x 5 crop and the look of medium format, so far I’ve only shot medium format film, would love to try digital as well
Love these shots!
Glad you like them!
I like them both
Is that the new Helios with AF?
Great video Irene. It looks like a fun lens to own. But at the end of the day I prefer the Canon..❤
Hello Sis Irene please make a video how to edit perfect presets for each photo using mobile phone Lightroom Presets application?
Its a personal preference for me. I like the Canon lens. I never have much cared for the soft look even when looking at pictorialists’ photos from the early 1900s.
Hi Irene, great images! About the helios, I loved a vintage and unique touch, and the sharpness doesn't seem like a problem looking at the video, it gives a touch of painting to the image, which I like... however, I use the EF 85 1.2 in mirrorless , and sometimes the softness bothers me a little...
Helios 💙
Tarkovsky VS Marvel / Dune VS Barbie / Vinyl VS mp3 / Film VS Digital ))) so my opinion Helios is better
I think both lenses work well, but I would like to see a photo shoot in the city doing street photography...📸👍🏻🙋🏻👋😉
2:09 🎉🎉🎉
How did you deal with the issue of the overall green color cast?
A lot of color correcting in photoshop
You should try some bubble bokeh lenses, too!
Do you have any recommendations?
@@IreneRudnyk
Probably referring to the "Meyer Optik Gorlitz" Trioplan lenses
@@IreneRudnyk there are some choices:
- Ttartisan 100mm f2.8 bubble bokeh
- Meyer Optik lenses (primoplan, trioplan) such as 58mm f1.9, 75mm f1.9, 100mm f2.8
I'm not seeing the link for the Helios lens
It’s a vintage lens, they don’t sell them anymore, I got mine on eBay
For the setting and environment, the Helios looks nicer. The Canon is the technically superior look but it looks digital in comparison but again, only for the setting.
Please give raw images in video
85mm 1.2 all day every day 💯‼️
👌❤
👌
Love helios❤
❤😊
Прикольная моделька
great video..... i like the Helios ones the best , they look so film like.......more with this lens please
Helios steals the spotlight. Canon is showing the model.
Well that's Interesting
Helios 85 Sure. Canon 85 just a modern lens performance many other lens can do.
I feel the Helios is a bit too intrusive as it catches her hair . Beautiful captures though. thanks for sharing.
I’m trying to find best lens for me, and the video: CapCut CapCut CapCut CapCut CapCut CapCut CapCut CapCut CapCut

helios can almost compare to the ef85lii
Your RF lens just 85 1.2 or 85 1.2 DS ?
Of course non-DS. DS looks terrible.
Дуже гарні фото! Я тут знайшов інформацію, що Ви з України, та ще з сусідньої області)) Ваш блог одразу став пріоритетним в переглядах)
Привіт :) я з міста Жовква, Львівська область
Canon lens all day long, the Helios lens made parts look like 'bad cloning' and the whites were overpowering and distracting for the subject. I hope the greenery in the basket was not cut from the trees,
L is amazing
Give me some raw image in drive link.
You're reporting but we can't see the review stuff properly. So it would be better to give the drive link for this
Helios is the jack of all trades.
I would say quite the opposite, it’s one very unique look and it’s only sharp in the middle so even the composition is the same most of the time.
@@IreneRudnyk Mam can you make a video on Nikon full frame camera. I guaranteed, you didn't disappoint.
I commented this on your previous video
Iam not expecting that you will reply me
Such a big CZcamsr. I'm surprised.
Loving the Bokeh....
maam please use canon rf 24 105 2.8 sometime.. its a new released one..
I’ll keep that I mind :)
& as a vintage lens it's to expensive 😢
Of course, the price says a lot. But it feels obvious that the photos taken with the Helios 85mm were not processed as consistently as the photos taken with the Canon RF 85mm. A bias is definitely made
I took me a lot more time to process the Helios lens pictures, you can see that from before and afters
@@IreneRudnyk I myself have been a photographer for many years, I have been following you for a long time, maybe two years already. I admire your photos, your photo editing techniques. You are great at doing it all. But I really noticed a bit of side guarding in this one, so I shared my opinion. I think it would be correct that you would process the photos taken with both lenses with absolutely the same operations, or by means of single presentations, to give an example. Then everything will be absolutely simple.
My regards. I love, respect and appreciate what you do. Continue❤
I have a 50 mm lens that creates bokeh similar to your vintage lens.
Oooo which one?
@@IreneRudnyk Canon Ultrasonic EF 50 mm 1:1.4. I bought it used. I wish I could send you the photo where I first noticed it. I didn’t like it at first but now I do.
Thanks! I’ll look into it
