    everyone forgets that Revans mask is actually a Mandalorian mask, he found it on a beach and saw a vision of the Mandalorian who wore it protecting civilians against her fellow Madalorians and was killed for it, at that moment he put on the mask and swore that he would destroy the Mandalorian empire with a new name "So says, REVAN!"

    • @doc3368

      Not everyone forgets so easily. I remember too. There were far more types of Mandalorian helmets and masks that are not counted in this video. It is rather sad that many helmets have been left out of the list. My favorite being the Wasteland Raider Mando helmet. A helmet that did not completely cover the chin and neck region and has held in place by a chin guard and fitted with three nozzles to accommodate a breathing apparatus to be attached.

    Custom blacksmith here: One little detail: You said that the Corinthian style helm was the real world inspiration for the Mandalorian helmet, it is actually based on a 15th century Italian helmet called a barbute, which has the exact same "T" shaped visage with no noseplate, and full side protection (Unlike the Corinthian helm which does not protect the sides of the head very well).

    • @katenaccios
      @katenaccios Před 4 lety +16

      The medieval barbute was also heavy influenced by ancient greek helmet design, so it makes sense that he mentions it

      @@katenaccios I highly doubt that Allen made that connection, since he himself didn't note it in this video.
      Regardless, you're using circular logic. The fact that the barbute helmet took inspiration from ancient Grecian helmets doesn't mean that the Mandalorian helmet, by extension, was directly influenced by Grecian helmets themselves.

      The way I'd heard it, pants were considered barbaric by the Romans. They associated them with Germanic and Celtic tribes, who they considered lacking in culture. No. When you actually look at the history and culture of the ancient Greeks of Sparta, the Mandalorians have little in common with them, aside from the level of notoriety they garnered as warriors.
      The Mandalorians have more in common with the Mongols than anyone else.

      @self-satisfiedsmirk5544 Před 4 lety +32

      @@kcocozza Samurai were soldiers and bodyguards for royalty and elites within Feudal Japan. They trained in a much more controlled way, always had a stricter code of ethics, were judged by their conduct, and were beholden to at least one authority figure within the state. So, no. The Mandalorians don't have much in common with *historical* samurai beyond the most base comparisons. You could make a few more comparisons between the Mandalorians and ronin. But, ronin were essentially dishonored samurai, which kind of goes against what you're trying to say about them both having a "code of honor".
      Most depictions of the Mandalorians show them as stragglers moving around and taking all manner of work for money. There is no well-known, historical group to point to with that. So, we can easily state that is the most contemporary aspect about the Mandalorians. But, any time they *did* band together in large numbers, they still weren't structured, socially, in a strictly regimented way. The brutally efficient strategies used by the Mongols during their imperialistic spread throughout Eurasia can easily be paralleled to the Mandalorian War. On top of that, the most defining aspect of Mandalorian society, that being their willingness to adopt anyone into their culture, is definitely pulled from the Mongols and their own willingness to do the same.

      Ctrooper2011 well In legends although the Mandalorians were organized to a degree, I’m pretty sure some of them felt a little rebellious and decided to go with the unorthodox. One of those unorthodox methods might’ve been to change the shape of their visors.
      Besides the fact that canon seems to have female Mandalorians wear a more curved T-visor, I don’t see any other ways that different visors signify anything special although you could be on too something.

    I’ve always loved the looks and story of the Mandalorians, as well as their Beskar armor and weapons, but I can’t help but look at it all from a military prospective, and while having it light and comfortable enough to be worn at all times is great, having such large openings between so many of the plates is horrible. Even the armor of the Bad batch has some gaps, but theirs still provides much better coverage then Din’s and Boba’s, which has an opening across the collar bone, a much wider gap between the chest plates and the back plate, leaving them vulnerable to any shot hitting the side of the body, and of course another large gap between the chest and pelvis, and finally the arms and legs get only about 50% coverage.
    Now, I realize that their needs to be gaps to allow movement, and that isn’t my issue, and instead my problem is simply the size of the gaps between plates.
    If the Imperial Mandalorian Super Commando’s armor is Beskar, than it solves much of the weakness most modern Mando armor has, as did many of the older armors, as they had much better coverage as well

Our visors could only be an icy frost blue. We could though change our frosters to flamethrowers.
