I love Mandalorians because of how over the top they are. They're covered in bulletproof, lightsaber proof armor and are covered in guns. They're the ultimate power trip.

And yet it's proven that despite how formidable they are as warriors, they are useless both as a coordinated military force and a stable society. Mandalorian Warrior culture is barely healthy on the individual level, it's absolutely toxic beyond a hunting team.

I’m so excited to see so many mandalorians coming together. An army of them is something I’ve been itching to see in live action.
Maybe we see a revolution in the new season it would be awsome to see that he would use the dark saber to untite the mandalorians again to take back mandolore like sabine did and maybe fight against the empiral garison that is stationd there maybe few traitors are there still loyal to the new order becasue sister of satin said mandolre wasnet glassed totaly so i think they could re take it maybe i at least hope so it would be awsome

Tragic thing is if Satine had just been a little more open to fighting to defend herself and her people she probably could've led Mandalor to a lasting peace. All Death Watch ended up doing was leading their culture to near extinction.
Really hoping Bo Katan finally gets called out on this.
We don't know the intentions of Bo Katan, all we know she wants to reunite and lead Mandalore.
@@northernseeker1822 Well she was certainly doing a better job than Death Watch, they take control and the world get's thrown into a Civil War and then turned to glass by the Empire. Atleast with Satine things weren't that bad.

Something I find fascinating was how Bo-Katan didn't view Din Djarin or Boba Fett as really Mandalorian. Both were raised in Mandalorian culture in the Diaspora. To Bo-Katan and her crew, these were pretenders. Oddly enough Din was the one most willing to accept Mandalorians outside his own religion/faction as equally Mandalorian.
Bo-katan isnt legit she didnt claim Maul despite him winning legit she isnt legit at all the true mandalorians had a good balance which is what this new deathwatch has became OG deathwatch pillaged everything with no care

For Bo-Katan and the Mandalorians being Mandalorian is carried by blood. But according to the Watch and Din it's a religion.

Din isn't an ethnic Mandalorian but a cultural one that follows the teachings of the extremist Watch.

Bo Katan (not, of course, the charming Katee Sackhoff who plays her) has always been a racist (yes, Alan) conniving, cruel, betraying, murderous piece of work. And her expression showed, when she saw Din with the Darksabre, that she'd see him dead any way she could to get that blade back. She never even earned it in the first place.
The Mandalorians is not even a race, in fact the first Mandalorians they weren't even human. these first Mandalorians spread throughout the universe and accepted anyone to be part of their culture, because the Mandalorians is that, it is a culture, A lifestyle. It is not a race and it has nothing to do with blood or place of birth. the only ones who thought that were the new and corrupt elitist Mandalorians like Bo katan who wished to rule the Mandalorians not by the traditional way but by a supposed "legitimacy" based on blood purity or their clan name. the children of watch are something apart from death watch, they are traditional like them but they are not terrorists, they simply decided to live apart from everything since they gave up fighting for a corrupted Mandalorian society that had lost its way beyond what was recoverable
A portion of jaster mereel's name was seen in the chain code in boba's armor, and he even mentions jango's involvement in the mandalorian civil wars.
Yeah, once again, Canon draws from Legends, but they leave it more vague.
@@occam7382 unfortunate but true, but keep in mind the new canon has only been around for 11 years now, and legends had over 30 years of storytelling.

It's like Allen himself once described it: Canon is like the stuff they write down in the history books, while Legends is the slurred ramblings of that one spice addict who seems to live in your local cantina. It could be true, and it could be complete nonsense. It's up to you to decide.

Din Djarin is gonna be really busy uniting all of the Mandalorian factions under his banner with the Darksaber in Season 3.
Oh, I don't know....could give them all quite clear directives to play.
Ie, New Mandolorians as politicians.
Children of the watch the Clandestine intelligence/special forces.
Death watch as main army/protectors.
Could be quite an efficient governmental structure

@@sirhenry9313 Children of the Watch make me think more of the mando version of warrior monks. religious warriors. Maybe we could see them as religious police & priests? And as soldiers/warriors to be called upon to help bolster the army in times of war.

I would like to mention the Legends version of the Mandalorian Protectors:
They were started by a former Alpha-class ARC Trooper named Alpha O2 and allied themselves with the CIS. However, they were destroyed after falling into a trap set by Darth Sidious on Noval II.
Mandalorian Protectors go back even further to a 1982 comic two-parter where the planet Mandalore was first shown (Star Wars 68-69 "The Search Begins" & "Death in the City of Bone"). Abel G. Pena & later Karen Traviss have done a lot to try and tie together all the bits of Mandalorian story.

@@TimeCircleBlue WHen Boba Fett recounted to Din when his dad Jango was a foundling and went to train on Mandalore to fight in the Civil Wars, and the name "Jaster" came up, I took as: yup, the True Mandos, the ones who stuck to a code and still kicked ass, existed.
Din Djarin not only removed his helmet in front of Imperial officers and Migs Mayfield(who he did not Kill) he also did so in front of Grogu,Bo Katan, Moff Gidion,Luke Skywalker Cara Dune And the other mandolorian girl played by Sasha Banks. So he definitely in violation of "The Way of the Mandalore"(mando code of honor)
Mandalore is the planet. Mand'alor is what they're saying. The way of their leader.
I remember in EU Legends that Mandalorians aren't exclusively made up of humans but it also has aliens in its ranks so long they are part of them and follow their Code.
Din says as much when he explained that Mandalorians are not a race but a creed. Heck, the Armorer declared that he and Grogu became Clan Mudhorn.
In the EU Legends Mandalorians were all humans because they killed off all the aliens. 😐

He's basically part of what would be the Taliban in our world.
So Din's view of the world has been skewed to align with the views of the Watch.

By the time of SWTOR anyone who is willing to follow the mandalorian codes are happily accepted into the ranks of whichever clan they fight for.
What it mainly came down to was the belief between the leader of said clan - some saw alien races as weaker and other saw them as advantageous due to their unique abilities.
Tho I think one prominent thing was that no mandalorian clan leader could be of an alien species but had to have a direct blood link back to Mandalore itself.
@@MrDude826 It's a fair point that he was raised in a religious sect. However, as strict as the Children of the Watch are in the wearing of helmets (and other practices), they demonstrated (at least in the show) a surprising tolerance for members not from Mandalore itself.
I'd say they're closer to Mormons than Taliban.
This is why I think Mandalorian lore and backstory is the best thing in Star Wars aside from the obvious things because they are different from the rest of the people in the galaxy and I find their culture to be fascinating, but most importantly their people are survivors.

My favorites were the Old Neo-crusaders with their Basilisks and then the True Mandolorians with the Children of the Watch in third.

The best real world comparisons for the Mandalorians are the Swedes (Nordics in general), the Japanese, and Americans. The Mandos are one of my favorite elements of Star Wars lore.

I mean, as much as history nerds like me like to imagine what if Sweden won the Great Northern War and dominated northern and eastern Europe, I dare say you guys got the last laugh compared to the Russians in the long run.
The New Mandalorians didn't wear helmets; they just had helmet-shaped hairstyles.
I doubt the Old Mandalorians wore any armor when they'd go shopping or anything. Their armor was only for warriors.
@Man1 I guess that would depend on what specific groups you're looking at. I don't recall reading anything about children getting armor beyond a helmet, and there are definitely plenty of good excuses to not wear armor outside of warzones, so you're probably right. With only a few exceptions, we've pretty much only see Mando's in high-risk situations, so it's hard to tell.
Edit: I just remembered the Mandalorian "Resol'nare" which does specify that the armor (though arguably not necessarily bes'kar) is a key part of Mandalorian life at a family level. To me, that would indicate an importance for armor among the general population as well as warriors.
(As a side note, it could also be argued that there weren't any "civilians" in the traditional sense during the older Mandalorian epochs. Simply put, everyone was a warrior.)
@@ventusvindictus Hard for there not to be civilians as a technological society it's self can't exist without a civilian sector outside of the military.
Mandalorian culture is militaristic and praises the warrior but what they truly think of as a sin is sloth. For the Mandalorians being lazy and doing nothing is a mortal sin.
So you'd see how the mandalorians easily excelled at building up their society and doing trade. Mandalore was allways wealthy and you can see the new Mandalorians keeping true to their traditions to the point their war torn society builts up to be as advanced as a Nordic country then it falls to civil war once it reaches its peak over and over again.
They keep their society in constant evolution.
@Man1 A fair enough summary and comparison. I agree with you on the sloth point in particular. I probably phrased what I was saying previously too literally. What I mean by "no civilians" is more that the vast majority of Mandos in olden days had at least some combat training or analog for combat training- such as dance and sport mirroring certain aspects of combat. So while there were certainly many Mandalorians out there with specialties not even tangentially related to war, it would theoretically be somewhat difficult to find a Mandalorian who couldn't fight or at least competently defend him or herself.
@@ventusvindictus Oh definitely, they were a militaristic and militarized society. Probably similar to Russia or Israel in the sense that every citizen is both a civilian and a soldier.
I can see the Legends and Canon version of Deathwatch fitting together. Tor Viszla or one of his ancestors started it and Pre took up the mantle when his father/uncle died at the hands of Jango Fett. As for Paz I could see him splitting with Deathwatch or them becoming The Children of the Watch. Same way how the children of the original Mujahideen ended up becoming members of the Taliban. Not members of the same group but members of an offshoot of it.

@@TimeCircleBlue, very likely. Which also means that Pre probably had a crippling fear of Jango and the clones. Considering what Jango did to not only Tor, but an entire Jedi strike team.
I thought The Taliban and al-Qaeda were two factions out of many in the Mujahedeen, and they turned on the others in a civil war after the Soviets left Afghanistan. I don't know why that one gets overlooked.
@@louisduarte8763 fairly certain that they are albeit Taliban was more home grown if memory serves. I was just using it as a contemporary example of similar instances in our own world
@@occam7382 man was the John Wick of a race of some of the toughest and deadliest warriors in the galaxy. Especially the way that Jango killed Tor was ice cold, letting him get eaten like that.
They did establish that Jango Fett was a foundling, which makes me hopeful that the history of the True Mandelorian faction will be moved into the Canon AU.
I rly hope if Din becomes Mandalore he adopts policies and ways from many of the different factions. A balance between these groups could be what the mandalorian people need.
I just don't see Din being that type of leader. a strike team maybe. But Din becoming Mand'alor? Nah.
Kal Skirata’s clan could count as a faction in legends, something else similar could show up here too.

@@matthewlaflamme9019 well, there’s an actor on hand that can play the part of clones, even though the standard clones would physically resemble an 82 yr old during the events of the mandalorian. But if some figured out how to slow down the aging…..

I would think Spar would be cool or even a Disney version of Nate Jangotat that explorered mandalore stuff.
@@matthewlaflamme9019 They'd all probably be dead by this point. Or extremely old. Look at Rex in the original trilogy, he's a gray bearded old man. But Kal is alive at this point on the timeline in legends. And Omega is like Boba, normal aging rate.
@@draagax bad batch is still going and clan Skirata would still be prominent as Venku existed in legends. Or any one of them could have had children by the Mandalorian timeline
9:50 the Nite Owls were already a subfaction, they simply grew in size after the schism to include anyone resisting Maul's rule
What about the sunguard? I know there isn't much known about them, but what is known about them is that they regularly fought the mandos in regular duels, and where therefore spared by the crusaders. They were more often aligned with the sith than the mandos though. Also there armour was what inspired the armours of various imperial guards, especially the Red and shadow guards.
There not a mandolorian faction though. I am also a big fan of the sunguard from legends material and wish we got more on them. And they actually been added to the new Disney cannon but unfortunately we got even less material on them now. Here is to hoping we get more on them someday
id love to see the echani appear in SW in general. And would be cool if the Sunguard merged with the Mandos since they're both elite warriors and have had historical ties to the Sith.
12:10 in the old legends, the super commandos were not destroyed by deathwatch directly. More like Dooku and the jedi dogs destroyed them on behalf of deathwatch.
The problem with the Mandalorians is that they made too many enemies and bad choices. Enemies to the Jedi, becoming pacifists, allying with Darth Maul, defying the Empire, the list goes on. If season 3 of the Mandalorian has them take back their home for good this time, they'd better truly learn from the mistakes of their past.
I'd like to see Mando make Cobb Vance a "foundling" and gift him with a set of armor thus creating a new "Way"...some people are Mandalorian at Heart and should be acknowledged as such.
It seems as though Din Jarin os more of a True Mandalorian, though I think that was because the Children of the Watch adopted those rules for the few who were allowed outside of the covert - you had to be able to work with other people and have a firm idea of what you could and could not do, such as Din Jarin saying "Your employer is dead. I have no quarrel with any of you, and if you would do me the honor of letting me pass, there is a pile of New Republic credits that I have no right to - I invite you to take what you feel your prior employer owes you." Paz Viszla was Not allowed out because (in my opinion) he didn't have that degree of self-restraint. He could easily have won the Dark Saber from Din Jarin had he not decided that he was not only going to take the blade but kill Din as well - Din Jarin seemed very willing to be beaten, but not to be killed, and looked to the armorer before killing Pax Viszla, thus letting her stop it and not having to kill someone he did not feel he needed to. It is this compassion and self-restraint that makes me think that Din Jarin is an appropriate leader for Mandalore.
The true Mandalorian’s are also canon. Their leaders name is in coded on Boba Fett/Jango Fett armor as mentioned in Mandalorian season two the entire Mandalorian Civil War, that everyone keeps talking about is between Juster and tor Vizsla. This is why a Bob else we need some kind of an animated miniseries or something that depicts Obi-Wan Kenobi quite gone Jin sateen how old is characters involved in this really pinnacle point of Mandalorian history we need something that talks about this..
With all the clones going AWOL in bad batch I hope one day we see some go to mandalore. Maybe see Spar, Nate Jangotat, or even Clan Skirata.
I imagined Grogu would one day create his own faction (or clan) made entirely of force-sensitive Mandalorians.
I've said it before but I wanted to say it again before the season starts, since Din became Mandalor during book of Boba Fett after defeating Like Skywalker in the battle of Grogu now the unification begins. I believe the final structure will have Fun becoming Mandalor with Boba Fett, Bo katan and the armorer forming a council of elders essentially each representing the views of the classic factions.
There is zero indication Bo Katan refused to follow Maul because of his race. She considered him an outsider because he swore no creed and followed no Mandalorian way.
True. Also, he was a murderous Sith psychopath who once tried to recruit an army of pirates. Not exactly that trustworthy of a leader. And considering how Mandalore always seemed to get screwed over when they interacted with the Sith, I really don't blame Bo-Katan for not thinking Maul should rule Mandalore.
The initial plan was to use and get rid of Maul once they had reconquered power. She did not believe in the myths, including the one behind the darksaber back then. There was no reason for her to pledge allegiance to Maul.
I always got the impression that she was in love with pre vizla and that’s why she abandoned death watch after he died. No idea if it was reciprocated, but her body language during his death, and the way the camera moves so her body blocks us seeing the beheading, makes the cut look like it’s cutting her in half. From a certain point of view. Symbolism of her heart being broken? Idk that’s the way I saw it.
Bo Katan was right about Maul , he wasn't a Mandalorian , he won the saber but that still doesn't make him a mandalorian , which makes sense , because how you can be sure that a foreigner will lead on the interest of the Mandalorians
And as we see, Maul didn't care for the Mandalorians much at all. He all but used them as bait to lure Obi-Wan to him. Twice. And then he completely abandoned them once Ahsoka and Torrent Company came knocking on his door.
The Night Owls were already a group within Pre Vizsla’s Deathwatch.
I work on the road but grew up on Star Wars, shii saved my life growing up moving around to a new schools/area every year or so till I was 13isj wit a single first gen female native collage student’ broke single mother to the point where I’m 21 with 2 brothers an mother making more then some of the highest paid people on the rez(her brother and my step dad(father of 2 of her 3 kids)) and I went from being a “geek””fat nerd” in hs to somone who put blue collar workers and gang members in the streets of Chicago to Star Wars from the new shows and for THIS channel that expands the history and I just wanted to say thank you for past 8 years y’all got me and kept me believing in this great franchise

Nice, always loved Mandalorians. Ever since I first saw the Clone Wars as a kid. Having so much focus on them for this show, and especially this season, is fucking incredible, they're the best part of Star Wars, easily
I have a feeling that whatever comes of the gathering of so many different Mandos in season 3 or beyond will likely result in something more akin to the True Mandalorians. They'll need to find a balance between maintain the positive aspects of their culture and tradition while finding a way to move forward in a positive manner that will actually strengthen them and help them prosper and thrive in the wider galaxy among their neighbors. The first episode was alright, but I love what it's setting up going forward and can't wait to see where it goes. The Mandalorian lore is one of the most interesting elements of Star Wars imo.
I would like to make a prediction...
I have suspected from S1 E1 that Mando isn't _The Mandalorian_ the series is named for; Grogu is _The Mandalorian,_ Not Din Djarin.
I predict Grogu will be the unifying factor bringing Mandalore back as a planet and The Mandalorians as a people.
Except that would be hundreds of years into the future since he is still a baby. If they do go with that, his position would only be that of a figure head while someone behind him weilds all the power.
Thank you for making a video that someone who is not super immersed into every aspect of SW or Mandalorian history can understand. watched a different video and was more confused than before. It's pratically unavoidable that a culture based almost exclusively on war will end in civil war. When all the adversaries are defeated, or are too strong, logically you've to find an enemy. The opposite error was made by Satine, being too peaceful it's too often a suicidal choice, expecially in this sort of sharks' pool that is Star Wars' Galaxy.
Technically, as Jango's clone, wouldn't Boba Fett be the last True Mandalorian?
Honestly, Satine's absolute dedication pacifism prevented her from the extremely obvious step of rolling all of the Mandalorians who adhered to the warrior lifestyle into a standing army. Two birds with one stone.

I wonder if Omega or any of the other Clones will be part of a Mandalorian Clan. A Clone could earn the respect of a Clan and become a Mando.
You should read the Republic Commando series and learn more about what the Clones felt about the Mandalorians and how the Mandalorians felt about the Clones.
Kal Skirata had a clan of mando clones iirc. Many alpha and nulls joined up with him
@@seb2750 Kal is still alive at this point on the timeline in legends. he dies "before 40 ABY" and its about 9 ABY rn in the show. would be cool to see him roll up, maybe with Omega since she ages like a normal human. we dont know her exact age in the show but she would be in her 40s most likely. (28 yrs after the end of the clone wars, and shes probably around the 11 to 13 age. so 39 to 41ish is my best guess)
I would like to see a concept art rep of future Mandalorian Grogu’s armor.
it would be cool if he wore dins armor but modified. clearly din djarin will be long gone when grogu is fully grown, so him wearing his helmet (with modifications) would be super cool

Well, also, the white Mandalorian suits are a call back to the prototype Boba fat white suit that Lucas had made. Before it got the red and green military paint scheme.
In my school vr game there's a new clan called the dead beaks a faction that's half of the death watch is made into dead beaks that has merged with the mawkin tribe of the chozo

Say what you want about Satine Kryze, she is the one who came closest to securing a bright, prosperous future for Mandalore. The other factions brought ruin to their people.
I assumed that the new mandalorians came to power because, as stated in legends if I remember correctly, by the time the Civil War came to an end both of the main factions were decimated and the peaceful third faction gained more sway. It basically got to the point where only the most die hard supported fighting because they were all just too worn down. In legends Jango was pretty much the only member of the true mandalorians to survive the war.
Yeah, most of the fighting during the Civil War was between the True Mandalorians and Death Watch, while the New Mandalorians sat in the background, watching as the other two factions tore each other apart while they quietly grew in strength. Eventually, the True Mandalorians were finally wiped out by the Jedi and Jango was sold into slavery while Death Watch was incredibly weakened by the fighting. Then Jango came back and killed Tor Vizsla, which basically led to Death Watch imploding on itself. After that, the New Mandalorians, especially with the help of the Jedi, had very little real opposition to sweeping into power other than the most die-hard elements of Death Watch, who were eventually exiled to Concordia and taken over by Pre Vizsla. I can't help but feel like the True Mandalorians were the biggest losers of the entire war. They spent so long trying to make Mandalore a better place, only to get wiped out in a trap and then all but forgotten by their people. Who on Mandalore even really remembered Jaster Mareel and Jango Fett by the time of the Clone Wars? Not a lot, I'd imagine. It just sucks, man.

You missed out the Old Mandalorians in canon, who are essentially the True Mandalorians from Legends. They have given up on Mandalore, and were not purged by the Empire. They engage in mercenary work and have large numbers of troops during the OT era, which they do not deploy. There are multiple clans.

I would like to see Clan Skirata, even just for a moment of mention as a randomly listed clan. I always liked the more balanced views they held. Also never forget that the first true gay Star Wars character was Mandalorian traditionalist and blacksmith Goran Beviin.
I'd really like to see this revisited since Allen's video on how he was wrong about Mandalorians.
Din removed his helmet twice. The second time was to say goodbye to Grogu in front of everybody. That was voluntary, and worse as the Armorer said. To me, the reason they have to wear a helmet in public is, like in many extreme religions, they need to personally sacrifice their freedom somehow, and they need to be able to differentiate their owns from others. It’s a sign of respect for their beliefs & ancestry. As in many religions and sects, Mandalorians are very tribal. Din himself immediately rejected Bo Karan and her crew when they removed their helmets, showing no gratitude for them saving his life, and Grogu’s life. One thing that I found fascinating is the contrast between the Jedi “no attachment” philosophy, and the Mandalore “solidarity” value. They protect their owns at the risk of losing their lives, like when the children of the watch rescued Din and were later massacred by the Empire. Din explained to Boba that he does not need a reason to help Boba Fett conquer Tattooine. He helped him by creed.
Mandalorian lore. Or, Manda-lore, if you will. Haha, keep your blasters holstered, I’ll show myself out the nearest airlock.

There is also the not faction from legends called the old mandalorians. They were basically the unaligned clans in the civil war who saw to their land holdings or went off bounty hunting or worked as mercenaries.
I’d be team Protectors following Fenn Rau. Hanging out in the Concord Dawn System. Flying Fang Fighters. Being able to take off your helmet as you please to let the winds of victory blow through your well maintained crew cut hair. Yes, that is the way for me!!!

Here’s my idea of a couple anthology type Star Wars movies to make!! #1 a 2 hour move about Tarre Vizsla showing him building the Dark Saber and doing missions with up to his death ending with the Jedi locking the (DS) inside the Temple. Then the first SW movie Post Credit scene setting up the next movie or even a Special Presentation about an hour long seeing a top tier team of the galaxies bad ass Mandalorian’s with there Leader being of the Vizsla clan/family. Then #2 the next movie being the heist of the Jedi temple to take the (DS). In this movie we could truly see the old republic style battles between Jedi and Mandalorian’s. Seeing multiple teams of (M) sneaking among the temple taking down Jedi padawan’s and Knights. Maybe some masters. Then after the get the (DS) they need to escape which we can then see the Jedi now stuck having to hunt through the streets of Coruscant doing there best to track them. I honestly think if Dave and Jon teamed up to write these 2 movies and the (SP) in between them would be a huge thing for the fans with how much hype The Mandalorian has built and how successful it has been. Plus I feel doing something like this would be better before jumping into the next big Trilogy which I’d love to be centered around Grogu Ezra maybe Ashoka and Kanan & Hera’s son Jason Synduula, with possibly Rey with them. Because I feel they must definitely sit down and write episodes 10-11-12 with the main (SW) story group then possibly by that time Jon & Dave have replaced Kennedy and have that creative control in the hands of a (SW) nerds hands. With the trilogy written out then find a director or director’s that won’t make the same mistake that messed up the sequel trilogy. With the Jedi of the post sequel era almost a blend of some of the prequel era then the high Republic era and the Grogu era lol. Maybe Ezra could be the first of Jedi masters Grogu a Knight. Anyway I hope you all like my ideas if so let me know please!

Maul should be considered the second Mandalorian Jedi. He was a Dark Jedi no longer a Sith and he won the Darksaber in fair combat. Maul was the leader of Deathwatch and a Mandalorian by Combat. If Bo Katan and Ahsoka didn't assault Mandalore then Maul and Mandalore might have been a key ally of the Rebellion. I'm pretty sure Luthan would have got along just fine with Maul.

@@SamCoulson "The Creed" is a Children of the Watch thing not a Mandalorian thing. To be a Mandalorian you need to be accepted into a Clan. Maul was both accepted into and the leader of Death Watch. They even repainted their armor in respect.
SO it's confirmed the Children of the Watch are an offshoot of the Death Watch?
It’s my understanding the children of the watch were on Concordia as a result of being banished from society. Like being sent to Siberia.
Wish for future videos which real Earth made firearms+ammo+attachments fits our favourite Star Wars characters.
Alan, I noted that Bo Katan Kryze didn't challenge Din for possession of the Dark Saber.
Only thing I'll disagree with was that Sabine Wren didn't have a true claim on the Darksaber. She didn't defeat Maul, and her mother calls her out on this. That was kinda ignored later in the Mando arc of Rebels. Ahsoka technically had claim to it, as she did defeat Maul in single combat during the Seige of Mandalore, but she didn't want it.
Sabine nicked the Darksabre from out of a bloke's bedroom! That's about as dishonourable as it can get. ;-)
@@janinejohnstone468 and "handing" it over to Bo-Katan was also illegitimate since she did not have the authority to do so since she didn't win it by combat. Same for Bo-Katan since she didn't win it by combat either. So...Maul was still the leader until he died and no one correctly took his place until Mando defeated Moff Gideon. If Ahsoka rejected the sword wouldn't it mean Maul still had leadership or would it mean there was no Mandalore since the previous one (Maul) was defeated?
I just watched the duel between Maul and "Snips". He wasn't using it to fight her so she did not win it and I think Bo-Katan would have had the same reaction to her having it as she did with Din having the sword in hand.
@@MotoroidARFC no disagreement there. I was more speaking to "who legitimately had claim to the blade" based on combat with the previous owner. Whether other Mandos accept them as Mand'alor is a completely different topic, lol.
@@MotoroidARFC, I don't think you need to defeat the current owner of the Darksaber when they're using it in order to claim it. You just have to beat them in single combat. They never really specify, but that's what I'd assume. So going by that assumption, Ahsoka would've won the right to the Darksaber and title of Mand'alor after kicking Maul's ass, but she let Bo-Katan take over and pissed off to nearly get murdered by Torrent Company. I'm still in the camp that winning the Darksaber through combat is a dumb way to determine Mandalore's leader anyway. I think it works better as something you own AFTER becoming Mand'alor, not before.

With the admittance of Jaster Mereel into canon in season 2 of The Mandalorian as the adopted father of foundling Jango Fett by proof of Boba Fett's chaincode recorded in his armor, wouldn't that mean that, by proxy, the True Mandalorians were also now canon?
No, we'd need hard evidence that Jaster is the same character from the same faction. There's been a case even where canon moved an OT Legends character in the timeline to the First Order era.
