From 1:17:00 and that next 7 minutes really spoke to me - hating essays in school BECAUSE the subjects assigned were of zero interest. Decades passed, I became a journalist/essayist, refining and clarifying my thoughts "on paper", exploring subjects that I was passionate about, even if it was for an audience of one. I am so grateful to have had one or two moments in my life where someone has thanked me for being the catalyst for their own self-improvement. They did the hard work but they were thanking me... so humbling.

I've identified two problems. There are probably more.
      1. The most significant problem is that >95% of churches are feminist. They redact whole sections of the Bible because they offend modern feminist sensibilities, their sensibilities. Feminism and Christianity are not merely mutually exclusive; they are in a battle to the death. When churches become feminist, the Word is corrupted, and they become heretical.
      2. They self-censor to avoid losing their 501c3 tax exemption. Churches have submitted to government bribery and censorship.

I guess it depends who you listen to on Sundays. I've had that same feeling in the past too, but it went away once i started to listen to pastors who did expository preaching so well, that i was eager to hear the rest of the message. And of course, it also helps that later in life, i went from cultural Christian to someone who truly believes in Jesus Christ. It made the Sunday messages much more interesting, once i had love for who the message was about.

I think sometimes about Peterson's wife. I recently saw the documentary on Peterson on amazon prime and she says she has "lost her husband to the world". I would assume because of all the time it takes up for his (what I would call) crusade. She has stood by him and "been a great help". I think maybe both Jordan and Tammy Peterson have made considerable sacrifices for our benefit. For that I am grateful.

yeah but i've never understood how religious people fall so short then. they fly planes into our buildings and kill 7000 people... that's obviously what the bible says NOT to do...i'm sure it also states the same in whatever "book" like the Koran and any other volume. so , given that, why are religious people murderous beyond belief? even if they don't KILL anyone, they still picket gay funerals, they still step over the homeless person dressed in their best sunday suit to hypocritically show off their piety. given all that, i'd have to agree with Hitchens, that religion poisons EVERYthing. when we can actually golden rule our lives, i'll swallow your religion whole. but since that IS NOT what i see happening when our preists diddle little boys, then avoid procecution and relocate to another field where they can repeat it. there should be no such thing as a rich church, yet the vatican has more gold than morals in any case. so we follow the "book" as interpeted any way we want to , you know, to break the rules stated clearly, but doesn't apply to them at all. they also shouldn't be tax free just because they were taught religion while their brains were still soft at age 5

    • @PrenticeBoy1688
      @PrenticeBoy1688 Před 3 dny

As a theologically conservative, conventionally religious Christian, I must stress that Jordan Peterson's Christianity isn't Christianity in any historically meaningful sense. He is a Jungian who borrows Christian imagery and applies his own meanings to it. I enjoy Dr Peterson's material for the most part, but he's causing confusion about what Christianity is.
For those of us concerned with doctrinal orthodoxy, we have a lot of trouble with Dr. Peterson's use of Christian symbolism. Lest it be said that this is an issue of interpretation, Biblical scholars, linguists and the like can demonstrate where Dr. Peterson and Mr. Pageau err in their understanding of the text, so the issues are matters of fact rather than interpretation.

Last night, I fell asleep watching bible stories, and woke up around 2:00 am to this video. It sounded so interesting , I was almost tempted to get up and watch it, but i made a mental note to watch later.
I did not know it would be so long, but once I started listening , I was immersed into the deep, thoughtful conversations. I normally listen to music on the ride to take the kids to school, but this was hooked up to the bluetooth . Even my 14 and 6 year old sons were engaged.
This is rare. Two absolutely brilliant minds. I enjoyed the way they literally complemented each other. There were so many gems dropped, I had to take notes📝

They are more central in their beliefs and can come together to discuss difficult subjects in a cordial manner. If you put even 1 polarized /extreme person in a conversation, typically nothing is learned because they are unwilling/insecure to accept any other views that contradict their own. We as people/countries/world need to meet in the middle to be able to actually HEAR/UNDERSTAND and enevidably LEARN about each other. Part of that is cleaning a little every day. It's something I struggle with as well. It's so "easy" to just drop something on a chair or leave it on a desk rather than put it away. Which contributes to clutter. Part of this folds back to the personal responsibility and how we go about managing our responsibilities, first to ourselves and then moving out from there.
I'm not great at it either, hell I keep trying to get the motivation to start working out to improve myself, it's hard and I find myself pushing on all sorts of margins trying to be better. It's hard. It sucks. It's also rewarding.

After a few weeks, I quit doing that and I noticed that I feel so much more aware of my surroundings. It sounds super stupid maybe...but like, I travel a lot for work and I notice people/animals/things...what they're doing around me. The first time I came across Jordan Peterson I was looking up something to do with motherhood as I was trying to navigate through some difficult aspects of motherhood. I came across a video of him talking about women and men in terms of parenting and I think he was talking about how kids need the mom to be their primary attachment more than the dad and I can't remember what else he said but whatever it was it helped me at the time with struggles I was having with motherhood.
There was a mom group I was in on Facebook and someone posted with a struggle they were having and it related to the video. I shared it and explained that it helped me and seemed relevant to her situation too.
Then another mom commented and said "be careful. Jordan Peterson is a known misogynist. I wouldn't be looking into what he says too much." Or something along those lines. I replied that I had no idea who he was but I didn't get that at all from this particular clip and found what he said in it to be helpful so I still felt it was worth sharing and fine to share. The mom who originally posted also said that she didn't find it misogynistic at all and that it helped her and she appreciated the message.
Then I did more looking into him with the presupposition that he was a misogynist and keeping an eye out for that.
It's been probably 3 years now and I watch a lot of his videos and understand them from the level he is speaking at, not from what he is often misconstrued as saying. The Cathy Newman video was super uncomfortable to watch, the way she attacked him relentlessly but it was amazing how he kept his cool.
There are definitely some things that women have to go through that men can't fully understand the weight of, and I think that at times his delivery doesn't always portray that. But what he is seeing and trying to make a difference with is the things that men go through that women can't fully understand and that people dismiss or aren't even aware of at all. It's a very similar issue to racism in the sense that we can't just blame all white people for being the problem when most now are not contributing to the problem. But we do have to be aware and sensitive of the residual effects of past traumas and help and give space for the healing process. Without pushing white people down as oppressors. I've been hearing about young kids in schools being bullied just because they are white. And a mom who's son was experiencing this posted about her son dealing with racism and multiple people telling her that because her son is white then it isn't racism. The whole definition of racism is treating someone badly based on their race.
But it's the same thing between men and women, now that women are no longer being repressed as we were in past years, there is a huge hate on men being oppressors and wanting to tear down men. We feel the collective past pain from the trauma that some women experienced. There is no denying that it was more commonplace years ago to beat your wife and treat her like your property. But it isn't fair to blame and condemn men who have done none of this, simply because they are male. And completely ignore the very real challenges that men today are facing, because it doesn't fit with the man hate style feminism that is popular right now.
In some ways, it may be because he is trying to make a point against something that is seen as so concrete - the patriarchy - that he gets his back up and is more vehemently against it and doesn't mention any of the nuance where there have in the past been power struggles that caused many women to suffer, just the parts against it. (In lots if cases he does go into this, but in some he doesn't, especially when only clips are shown which in that case isnt his fault at all, just what others are showing of him). But it isn't quite as black and white as - women didn't have the right to vote because they didn't go to war. That is a fair point and absolutely women didn't have to do that which is a huge privilege, women dont want to do the dirty jobs mostly, there are tons of valid explanations he gives for the pay gap and voting and things like that. But there have definitely been ways where women were oppressed and treated as sub human. But again, not all men were acting that way and not all women were being treated that way universally.
That may be where he loses some people, because it may seem that he is saying that women have it great and there is no oppression, when he says there is no patriarchy. But to me it seems that his main goal a lot of the time when speaking about men and women is to speak to what isn't being said. What most people aren't hearing or thinking of. Everyone knows women have been through some hard shit and treated in degrading ways but it's not that we have had things worse than men across the board or that it was all women all the time. And talk of the patriarchy generally lends to thinking of a few white men with all the money controlling everyone, but also men in charge in every profession and controlling all positions of power.
What Jordan talks about with the statistics makes perfect sense and seems common sense. You pull someone off the street there is a certain percent chance they are stereotypical to their gender in terms of being more on the compassionate side or more on the analytical side, more chance on one side than the other but not a crazy amount. But you go to the top percent in each area and it will be overwhelmingly one gender occupying all the top spots. So it makes sense for men to gravitate towards certain jobs and women to gravitate towards others, and men to get paid more if they are working longer hours etc. Although it definitely hasn't always been that way either and in some places there ARE misogynist still treating women like they deserve less because of their gender.
I was actually listening to Oprah talking about it the other day. About how when she was a news anchor the man that did the exact same job as her, same hours and everything, was being paid more and she confronted her bosses and they laughed her off and said she shouldn't be paid the same as him because she's a single female. Then when she had her own show she had female producers and wanted to give them a raise because they were being underpaid for the position and their response was "why? They're just girls!"
It does happen, but not to the extent that todays feminists often make it seem.
Anyways. I am a huge fan of Jordan Peterson and I love listening to him talk. It's heartbreaking to see how he has been vilified and his sole motivation is to help people and make a difference with his time here and DESPITE depression and all the physical obstacles he has had to face and being constantly misrepresented and vilified and attacked he STILL shows up for us and sacrifices his peace in the hopes it will help more people to live a better life. He is an absolute legend and yes he has faults like anyone but he does his absolute best to be aware of them and to work on them and be better and better all the time. Some of the ways I've seen people try to attack him (like the Cathy Newman interview) leave me wondering like have they never watched anything he's ever said before? Have they only ever seen snippets of him out of context and been told other people's smeary opinions of what he's trying to say? Lol so many people are on a manhunt to catch him saying something reprehensible. And also seem completely taken aback at his propensity to maintain a level head and challenge their stance against him lol he is fascinating to watch in those situations. The more I watch him, the more I understand where he's coming from and appreciate his perspectives and information.

This is true, tbh. Except that I think Crowder's arguments are more robust than Benjamin's insofar as he's done more research and he's better at forming an argument.
I also did a lot of research into this polygamy thing after everyone kept pointing to Ryan's "sex at dawn". It's such a terrible book and is the incarnation of all this sexual libertine philiosophy, all bad science. Rogan lets Ryan off scot-free when he's interviewing him.

Would be fine if he did it to both sides, or if he even knew anything about the topic he was criticizing. Like how Joe will talk about economic aspects and criticise a side on it but then even says he knows jack shit about it. But he gets dogmatic for something he knows nothing about.

    • @dangernoodle2868
      @dangernoodle2868 Před 5 lety

Well he says that nazism is an instantiation of lefist policy, which is kind of right but also kind of not right because the ends are different. No equality of outcome not to mention a soceity that was functional enough to build the autobahn, the USSR and communist soceities achieved no such thing and if they did then it was at the lowest quality possible.
I'll say this and I think you might push back, I think Benjamin belongs to the group of people who get red pilled a little too hard. (Though not as badly as those who went all the way to the alt-right.) Candace Owens belongs to this group of people as well, she was arguing that climate change was a conspiracy. While how bad global warming will be is down to some debate, you can read about it in "The Signal and The Noise" in one of the final chapters, she's being way too sceptical as a result of having to change her whole worldview.
I think it's clear without a doubt that Crowder has put way more thought into this, Benjamin is a comedian and that's about it. Which is okay, the major point is calling out the regressive left, but he's still just a dude.

Please explain to me how you cannot love Jordan Peterson. I need a breakdown of how and why. JP helps my life with his descriptions of how things work in my mind and how the attitude of outlook of life should be. I love how hes helping improve me myself as a man and i really appreciate his views and incremental ideas of how to move forward from the base i have been at to where i am now. Praise this man, please instead of attacking him. Thanks Joe for having him on for this discussion. Its really helped me.

I was pretty down when I discovered him, it's only been about 2 months but I've made a lot of progress with my mindset and I'm going back to school in the spring God willing. I've started being more honest with others, but mainly with myself. Not only did he make me want to better myself, but he took the stress out of person setbacks because I no longer have to be my own hostage.

This is SUCH helpful advice. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and I gained 50lbs. Obviously I wanted to loose all of that right off the bat and kept struggling. But now I’ve set my goal at 5lbs at a time. And I’ve lost 20 so far when I set the bar lower!
I also want to own my own salon but I knew I couldn’t do that right away. So I went out independently and rented a booth. Now I have a clientele. Now I’m looking into entrepreneurial corses. And slowly building my credit score. Baby steps. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

said voice got much better after leaving social media in 2014 though. our brains simply aren't built for the constant consumption of division.
