- In this video, my roommate will be reacting to her very first watch of "Terror Train" from 1980. This is another Jamie Lee Curtis Scream Queen classic, and a great way to kick off the new year!
ABOUT:
During a hazing, a fraternity of pre-med students has a particularly sinister prank in store for one their more timid pledges (Derek MacKinnon). With the help of a coed, Alana Maxwell (Jamie Lee Curtis), they pull off the prank so well that the pledge needs to be institutionalized as a result. After several years pass and people forget the incident, those involved with the prank are ready to celebrate their graduation by having a costume party on a train, but they haven't escaped their past yet.

I like how the killer in this one has more than just one disguise. That's pretty unique.
Recommendation - Henry; Portrait of a Serial Killer
Not to mention the COSTUME PARTY thing. THAT was also something quite novel, that hasn't been in too many other flicks and gave it a weird and amusing kind of atmosphere. Horror Express (1972) is another flick with a TRAIN setting, though that one's not a slasher like this one.

Horror Express! The 1972 classic "Horror Express" starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Telly Savalas (Kojak) makes an appearance too. That's a horror movie where everything takes place on a train.
There's also the 1985 "Night Train to Terror" but that's an anthology of 3 segments (none of them taking place on the train). The train story connects the segments with God and Satan as passengers passing judgement on the players in those segments. The real horror of the movie is that there's an 80s rock band on the train that keeps playing that bloody song "Everybody's got something to do, everybody but you!" (once you hear it, you can't unhear it). The song can be found on youtube. Listen at your own risk 😂
Other Train Horror/Thrillers... Horror Express from 1972 is set on a train. It has Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. There's Midnight Meat Train written by Clive Barker. Beyond the Door 3, from 1989 is mostly set on a train (Joe Bob showed it on The Last Drive-In in June of 2023). There's Alfred Hitchcock's "Strangers On A Train", but only part of the movie takes place on a train.
Then there's the murder mystery "Murder on the Orient Express" that's a mystery thriller that has had a few adaptions on screen.
We love a good Jamie Lee Curtis classic. Although, since 1981, she's not acted in a horror film aside from the "Halloween" franchise. Also, I love trains.
True. Although she did a Sci-Fi/Monster movie in 1999 called VIRUS. She also did a movie Mother's Boys in 1993, that was more a psychological thriller.
There was a "TERROR TRAIN" Remake in 2022 which had a Sequel later the same year (the acting was ok, but the movies themselves weren't that interesting). The Remake was set on Halloween and the Sequel was set on New Years Eve. Both were filmed back to back, but the movie itself was a pale imitation to this version. I like this Terror Train a lot. Creepiest masks I think.
The character Merry (Dressed as Cleopatra) was played by DD Winters aka VANITY. She was a protege of PRINCE in a music group Called VANITY 6 he created in the early 80's.
The movie you were talking about with a train and a village doesn't ring a bell with me either. As far as movies with murders on a train, Train To Busan could technically be counted as one, although it's not a serial killer. Also, there is Midnight Meat Train, although that is a subway train. Anyway, I love Terror Train. It holds a nostalgic place in my heart along with the original My Bloody Valentine. I remember watching them as a kid and they stuck with me all these years...and I am 48. I'm so glad my parents weren't the kind to shelter me from horror movies. I built my love of horror from the age of 7...when I first saw Friday The 13th. Been a major horror fan ever since. They just don't make them nowadays like they did in the 70's and 80's. All of this bullshit CGI and unoriginal ideas. The old classics will always be my go to.
Another film is Night Train Murders 1975.
I am a big fan of more high speed rail in North America. As it stands, everytime I’ve looked at train prices, a la Amtrak, the tickets are about as much as plane tickets, if you can even find the routes you want. Unfortunately, the passenger train situation in America is a ridiculous mess.
I think Radcliffe may have been involved in the Dickens’ David Copperfield, not the magician.
I had seen this movie before, but I didn't know that Jamie Lee Curtis was in it.
