Lol at the NYC heating, my sister lived in Sunnyside Queens for a bit and there was a heat rod in her bathroom like 10 cm away from the toilet that was on the whole winter. You could not sit more than 10 seconds without getting uncomfortably hot😅. But to answer your question, here in Amsterdam 6 organic eggs cost 2.69 euros. Hi Mary, this morning when I was driving to work, I heard on the radio that there was an egg shortage in the U.S., and that prices were going through the roof! (not sure what the reason was though).
They were saying that things had got so desperate, that people were smuggling eggs into the U.S. from both Canada and Mexico.
This Mexican illegal trade in particular... was a real worry, due to the diseases that are sometimes present in
these warmer central American climates, and also because of the lack of proper health measures associated with those countries.
But anyway... chances are that you might hear something about this yourself, if it becomes a public health issue... I'm guessing.
As for the price of eggs here in New Zealand... it seems to be typically around the $5 NZ mark, or just a little under that.
These are the free range, cage free variety, which are available through mainstream supermarkets.
I guess that there are more expensive organic alternatives, which you can get from specialist retailers, but I haven't checked any of those out yet, but typically you're paying at least 30% more, I would think.

@@WhatashameMaryJane It is not terribly difficult. It is possible to use mail order dry culture at about three dollars for two gallons of whole milk. However, when I was making yoghurt and overheated the milk as I let it sit overnight, I found that I had cheese similiar to feta. There are also two types of cultures...one used for milk up to a certain temperature and the other for high temperatures. Whether to use one culture or the orher depends on what type or cheese one wishes to make. In conclusion it seems that yoghurt can be used as a culture not just for more yoghurt but also for cheese as it is classified as a low heat culture. If interested there is a wonderful youtube serues. Maybe it is called Cheese52...a very charming lady. Home Cheese Making by Ricki Carroll is great too. It's true: Winters aren't what they used to be. It might we the worst of all in NW Europe. In the late 90s we had snow a few times per year and different periods of freezing temperatures with lots of ice. Now that only happens every few years! We're much more likely to have spring temps around 15°C or so in the middle of winter. Spring and autumn are now more like the old summers (nice and sunny) and summers are dry and very hot.
Keeping houses at 25°C seems like madness to me. What a waste! I don't even think it's healthy.
I like the music. I have good memories of listening to these slow and warm jazz songs during bright sunny winter days in the past. It fits very well.

I don't agree on 4AM walks. Italy is much safer in this regard.
I have walked the streets of Rome through the night from 22:00 to the 6:00 the next day, when I had to fly out of Ciampino.
After midnight the city falls asleep, there are very few cars on the road, let alone pedastrians. I haven't met anyone on foot then, mostly just rare taxis.
People who live on the streets are all concentrated around Termini and don't jump or yell on you.
In Toronto, which is still a bit safer than NYC, you really need to know how to defend yourself in the nighttime.

I guess we won't be seeing you at Denny's Mary Jane. In America we have a saying. "If you can't stand the heat, Get out of the kitchen." If you don't like the way American housing does its heat. You could always move back to Italy. It's nice to see you and your husband together. I was beginning to wonder if you were still married.

She wasn't complaining about the heat, all Italians love it. The point is inefficient waste of energy that comes with the central heating for the whole building.

I live in Phoenix, AZ, In the summer it is about 110 degrees here. Air conditioning is a must have! On the east coast where I was born , good heat is a must too.
