Yeah less drama, no idiotic decisions, mostly better characters, better ending, better action, no bad CGI and no budget cuts.😂
It's so insane that kirkmans rushed ending is better than the ending to the insanely popular show with so many writers 😂
@@Julian-uk6mj Quality vs Quantity
@@brianachim2670 yeah the episode requirement per season really fucked the show
@@Julian-uk6mji don’t think it was as much rushed as it was a late realization that this was the perfect time to end it. it can feel rushed sure but i think the ending was still good.
@@jico5147 oh I still love the ending of the comic
The comics was better simply for the fact of the overall story and characters within it. I recently finished the comics and this video makes me want to read them again!
I love the comic. Andrea is hands down one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and I hate how the show ruined her. She was basically the Daryl of the comics.
Yeah but the same could be said with Carol in the comics so your point is a bit invalid, I dont like the comics because carol was a useless character who did nothing.
The same could be said with shane, morgan and hershel who are all massive down grades from the tv show counterparts.
Also daryl is better than andrea in the comic for me, so having andrea in the tv show just be like him causes daryl to be worse.
@@nani4249 the point of Carol’s character in the comics was showing how the mayhem and isolation of the apocalypse can drive someone crazy. And she ultimately took her own life because she couldn’t handle and evolve to the new world like everyone else. She was so isolated and lonely she suggested a polygamous marriage with Rick and Lori, only to get heartbroken and angry when Lori understandably didn’t want that. She character in the comics is meant to be a tragic figure instead of the terminator she was turned into in the show.
@@AlecEburhard exactly carol and andrea in both comic and TV show were meant to tell an entire different story from each other, not saying either is bad but just as 1 his worse than the other doesn't necessarily make it worse, and as they are different and have different level of importance in each story doesn't make any sense to criticise the tv show purely because its different from the comic
@@nani4249I like Daryl but many things that were done by Andrea, Abraham and Tyreese were given to him.
On top of that Its so stupid how they made Caron a menace on the show. Like come on 1 woman be coming a terminator?
The change to father Gabriel on the TV was more belivable than that of TV Carol.
@rumers100 daryl just replaced those characters anyways so it doesn't matter.
And you really can't say Abraham, tyreese and andrea in the comic are better than daryl.
But carol even though she was a strong survivor didn't display any super human feats so I can't see your problem with her development, plus she's more like rambo than terminator anyways
I’d absolutely love to see more comic reviews!
I think more The Walking Dead comic book reviews would be great.
Also what would be really cool is if once Invincible ends if that studio was able to animate The Walking Dead comic.
The only problem is if the live action series overstays it's welcome (which some may argue it already has.) People might become so tired of the series that even if the comic tells a better
story and there was an animated series that was a 1 to 1 adaptation people may just not care at that point.
Carl is my favorite character from the comics. He's ok in the tv show but an absolute bad ass in the comic.
the comics were great but holy shit it got grimdark sometimes, the scene where the gouverneur kissed his own zombiedaughter on the mouth haunts me until this day
Not even his daughter XD
@@damonlongstreet8630 yeah in the comics it was just someone else's dead daughter he keeps as a disgusting fetish
@@AnOwlfie his brothers daughter, his niece XD
My mom and I loved these comics. Realizing 6 months have past and a new volume was about to be released, it was great
I must've read the comic like 2 or 3 times and just now realizing that bc Lori and (Judith) her newborn weren't shot in the head that they did in fact turn. Haunting.
Oh no I think it turned out worst then that with Judith actual somewhat surviving and lori turning into a zombie on top of her…. You could imagine what happened after that…gnarly shit
@@urbanlegendd6646I think, mercifully, Lori crushed Judith when she fell on top of her. A roughly 150 pound woman falling full force between Judith and the hard ground would likely not leave her alive.
Please do the other compendiums. I read the negan arc before it came out and was soooo excited to see it on tv. Jeffrey dean morgan did a fantastic job showcasing the unhinged charisma of negan.
I do like some overall elements better in the show, typically that has to do with actor performances or character arcs. Standout examples of Morgan, Carol, Daryl, Hershal, Glenn, etc. Nothing against their comic counterparts, I just find certain characters to have been enhanced by talented actors and plot changes.
Though, typically, all of my praise dies away by the sixth season. The comics give a better feeling of mental decline and desperation for the characters. The grime (no pun intended) feels more pervasive, the physical decay of the old world, the human struggle, it's all focused better in the comic series. And all of the lows lend better towards the small glimpses of humanity and peace that are achieved by the survivors.
All in all, it's the same classic story that happens with all the cool shit we like: The walking dead is a great series by a talented author that deserves more attention and a better adaption.
i think season 9 onwards kinda picks things up again
@@zenithsfmno.
@@jaski4022 it does imo
@@zenithsfmIt really doesn’t. It might’ve been better than other seasons, but the show after season 7 the show became so awful.
@@VazmanianDeviI it isn’t that bad . I said in my opinion aswell
Better by far. I've completely lost interest of the show when they threw Chandler Riggs under the bus.
I thought they did Tyreese SUPER dirty bro, I kinda just watched it out of inertia since then ... and then they made Negan ... actually boring. Terrible execution. The governor was good but ... too drawn out
@@BurghezulDjentilomThe Governor was not drawn out. In fact I wished they made it longer. the thing is the storylines was not as interesting. another problem was they deviated way too much from the comics. the first season did a perfect job. Darabont deviated from the comics, but it wasn’t to the point that it changed major events and completely ruin and destroy certain characters.
"the source material is better then the adaptation"... what a brave statement that really has never been stated before, bravo!
this is literally a rule of the universe 9/10.
The Boys is an exception
I also think the Telltale series of TWD was very very good as well 👍
Imo the first season of Telltale's game series is the best installment in the entire franchise.
I think something cool you do with this series is focus in on a particular character and talk in depth about the differences from comic to show, like Andrea, or Caroll
Carol is the only character I think that was a genuine, serious upgrade. That, and I liked Michonne and Rick together.
I love both, obviously the show lacked in a lot of places and missed the mark more than once, but I love what they did with carol, I love andrew lincoln as rick and he is arguably one of the greatest live action tv show characters ever written, the shane vs rick arc although arguably on a weaker season overall it was still one of the most compelling and tragic stories I've ever watched on TV, not to mention Jon Bernthal as shane was AMAZING, Daryl being his completely own original character and Norman Reedus embodying him, at the end of the day there was a lot of dumb shit that made the live action show lesser quality, but it also brought us some of the most memorable, amazing tv moments I've ever seen.
Really liked your review Ryan! Have you ever watched David lynch's Twin peaks. if yes it would be nice if you can make a series analysis on the tv show
"Humans are the real monster" - reddit
Adam and Eve
People that use Reddit are the basement monsters
So glad my boy Ryan is doing walking dead. Literally my favorite comic book
I literally just finished watching your video on rick grimes and his final episode and now I see a review of the comics, awesome!
Please, keep reviewing this series! It's one of my old favorites and I would love to hear your further opinions on it.
You should totally cover invincible too! I love the way you covered the walking dead comics in this video
Also you could do in the future a twd comic issue cover tier list. So many good covers exists in this series man.
Public library has them all can even search all the libraries in town online to pull them all to one location to pick up later. Love it. They have almost every older comic run ive ever wanted to read
Every time I'm reminded of twd it just makes me wish it had a more accurate adaptation. Kirkman really is just a fantastic writer.
Unexpected, but very good video ! Us WD fans could have told you that the comic is better since season 2 though haha
Yes, please give us more reviews of the walking dead comic when you're done 👍🏾
Oh yea definitely review the rest of the series, really enjoyed this video!!
Ryan if your doing western comics you gotta do cover The Crow comic. you won’t regret it!
Yes please absolutely finish reviewing the comics!
More TWD Comic reviews please! Plan on reading them soon...
I’m down for more reviews of these
Please do the rest of the series! I remember reading this and attack on titan consistently when i was in high school and they were my favorites. So much better than the show and you’ll appreciate a lot of whats to come.
I finished the comics a few months ago, it was great
They should definitely do a animated series based on the source material. And have a black and white adaptation
That would be so cool
I have to 1st compendium & even re-read it after the TV show ended. Still need to obtain the other compendiums as well.
For a second I thought you were going to rip into the show and I was impressed you had managed to keep it under 13 mins.
Need more comic book reviews from Ryan
This was great thanks! I’m here for more
Heck yeah Ryan more comic reviews on TWD please :)
One thing you should do is lissten to funeral march while reading it makes it feel more depressing
I'd love to see more folks reviewing The Walking Dead comics
More reviews please! 🙏
Yeah the walking dead comic was way better than the TV show,I was gutted when it ended as opposed to the TV show, the whisperer arc was a return to form for the show though, then it went downhill again 😬
Id love to see u review the rest of them please🤓
I’ve been debating over getting the comics or watching the show, but 11 seasons of a 43 min episode tv show is like catching up to One Piece for me
Will this review series be a berserk style analysis series??
Very true. I read the whole thing so far and I loved it. RICK IS THE MAN
Something I love about the comics is that the tell tale games are connect to the book! The game makes little nods and cameos that really build the world of the walking dead comic (unlike the show trying to become the next MCU by having a bunch of spin offs that frankly are failures since no one cares about them) You should do a review on the walking dead spin offs like Rick grimes 2000 and walking dead the Alien!
Fun fact: the season 1 opening is a reenactment of when it snows in Georgia
Never read the comic or seen the show, though I’ll always remember the hype behind the show. I would see endless ads for the episodes here.
I love the show alot, i think they did alot of great things with the series. Up until S7 episode 1. Once that episode aired it started going downhill real quick. I love season 7s opening episode but everything after just. Idk i feel like they kinda gave up and started to milking the series for everything its worth. Which could have been fine if they were still going strong but they didnt. I think season 7 and 8 were good for binheing but for week to week it was aeful. Everything after there were only moments i liked a lot but the writing got so damn bad. The comics is definitely the only version of the show ill ever watch/read all the way thru ever again. I might watch the first 8 seasons with someone if they wanna blast through it but i aint continuing after that lol
Hmm i didn't know there was a comic book
Something I also never see mentioned about the walking dead is having a disabled main character, with how popular the tv show became im always disappointed they never had it happen in the show.
The fact rick loses a hand and is like that for the whole comic is one of favourite things.
oh my if you have so much of a good story left to read i envy you! as someone who has been a lover of zombie fiction my entire life i can say the walking dead comic is one of the absolute high points of the medium, and well worth finishing if you liked it even remotely up to this point
I have read the entire walking dead comic and it is much much better than the show. I was really disappointed about how much they changed the governor on the show.
Plz do more reviews!
I remember being super excited to read the comics, I purchased the first 3 and I was super into it during the first book. Super excited for the second one, I was shocked to see the the change of art style. I just couldn't get into it, the art style was unimmersive for me.
Yes, more please and thank you.
Like they always say, The Manga is better than the Anime
Keeping up with comics when they were still being written so was so fun theorizing of what will happen next issue. I always prefer the comic over the show. I stopped watching the show after season 8 and don’t plan to go back to watch it.
You might have convinced me to give it a read
Wait until you get to the end, it blows that abomination of a tv show out of the water. They did Carl dirty.
eh i mean the show did some of it better than the comics
TWD without Rick would be like if Walter white suddenly disappearing in breaking bad.
Going 16 episodes a season was too much, I'm not a huge comic book reader in general but The Walking Dead is amazing and the show is fun overall but the comics are superior on every level.
ok idk about every level, if there’s one thing i might prefer from the show, are some of the characters getting more attention, but if you don’t want to be disappointed read the book because that’ll at least have semi satisfying ending.
there's a lot the show does better
Yes please more reviews
I hope you continue to the end of the seires. The comic only gets better from there. It was such a great ride for the amazing telling. It's a shame how the tv series really pissed all over the source material
They just need animated that follows the complete comic book or a complete reboot
This video was recommended to me by CZcams along with other compelling videos like "10 Reasons why Water is Wet"
The comic is night and day better than the show, I would love a like for like animated adaptation the way Invincible on Prime did it, that would be perfect 👌 IN COLOUR THOUGH😅! As my only complaint about the comics, if I had to force one is that it was colourless, but that never ruined anything for me, it just would have been better in colour.
This video compels me to buy the comics.
First couple.of seasons were so goated man
Please cover more of it
In the comic it takes place in Kentucky
Please more love the Twd comics
I am a huge fan of both but i mostly prefer the show. Yeah, they extended certain storylines out WAY too long but with a few exceptions like Andrea and Carl, the characters in the show were so much better and fleshed out. This is because of the greatest person in The Walking Dead show: the casting director. Even when the storylines or drama or dialogue were a bit clunky, every last performance in the show was top notch. The cast really gave it their all. I understand why people prefer the novels, i understand why people prefer the show. They both have pros and cons, and both of them have far more pros than cons. And as a fan of both, i really love that for people that watched the show first or read the novels first, you can enjoy the other one and really be on the edge of your seat the whole time because of how many differences there are with only the broad strokes being the same. Also, the soundtrack in the TV show is phenomenal and really enhances the story. So now when i am reading the novels (Yeah, baby, Deluxe collection!) I hear the songs and soundtrack in my head.
I had no idea this guy wrote Invincible
More reviews please
Bro mew berserk is out go get it!
Please more reviews
I started reading it right at the begging but never finished. I think the tv show killed the hype for me...Maybe I should finish it now.
Are you reading the comic online or physically?
It would have been better if you'd used the colored version of the comic.
The comic is amazing!
Idk, the show still clears for me. Better characters, better dynamics, less unnecessary edginess, and better decisions.
The Governor's arc is even more fucked up if you read the novels. Originally he was a big coward and a big fuck up, unlike his younger brother Philip. Philip did the same shit in the novels that the Governor did in the comics. Philip almost even killed him because he wasn't able to protect Penny and let her die.
The Governor started to act like his brother because he convinced himself that the world needs you to act like Philip in order to survive. At the same time, The Governor fights his real persona hiding underneath the new one, often feeling sick to his stomach and crying while trying to maintain the Philip persona. Comic doesn't show that until the last issue where he really gets scared and let's the Brian (the Governor's real name) come out.
acrosst? ACROSST!?!?!
Hell yeah, TWD comic! 🙌
Hot take ig but if im being honest i liked the first two seasons of the show better then the first two chapters of the book, i think they end at around the same time
Read this as it was releasing almost every aspect is better then the show but that’s normally how it goes not enough budget or air time to really flesh out these Storys in a short run time
I started reading the comic during the farm season of the show(you know, nothing happened there, so...), the comic was extremely great and far superior to the show ALWAYS, BUT, the comic overextended its existence the same way the show did, it should have ended with All Out War(the "final battle" arc with Negan, I don't remember if thats the correct name, anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong), but it kept going... After that it was all downhill for me, everything felt so "unimportant" compared to Negan's "saga", like DBZ after the Cell Saga, imagine if Berserk keeps going after the Godhand are all dead... Oh and by the way, I stopped watching the show as soon as I started reading the comic
Lori and Dale were sooo much better in the comic.
So what, carol, morgan and Shane were, the argument that an individual character is better in the other source material means nothing.
I remember reading the first volume at the library years ago. Seems worth checking out again
More!
More Zombies!!
Just do the review. It's really good all the way around
More videos please
There's a youtuber how make videos comparing the show and the comic
please, PLEASE, continue with it
Oh boy, the govenor isnt even the worst one in the comics
Of course is not better what is wrong with all the people i like the stories from the characters that were not from the comic specially Daryl
