SOLVED! - How to make nVidia Surround work on Ultrawide Displays

  • If you've ever tried to set up ultrawide monitors with nVidia Surround, you may have been left with no option other than to run resolutions or refresh rates other than your monitor's native ones.
This is because manufacturers include resolutions higher than the panel's native resolution in their EDID profiles, presumably so they can advertise "4K Compatibility".
Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) is a metadata format for display devices to describe their capabilities to a video source (e.g. graphics card or set-top box). nVidia's software detects the maximum compatible resolution and automatically selects the highest compatible resolution, which makes it impossible to select the native panel resolution for nVidia Surround.
I ran into this problem with my BenQ EX3501R monitors, so in this video, I show you how to modify the monitor's EDID data to enable proper nVidia Surround support at your panel's native resolution.
    FREE TOOLS YOU'LL NEED:
CRU (Custom Resolution Updater) - www.monitortes...
NOTE: CRU doesn't actually modify the monitor's firmware, and you can revert back to stock at any time, but please keep in mind that if you go poking around and try to change other settings, you can do permanent physical damage to your monitors.

  • @AnalogMonoxide
    @AnalogMonoxide Před 7 měsíci

Why the hell do manufacturers add 4k resolutions to 1080 monitors? Why do NVIDIA not give you the option to change resolutions in the new drivers they release? I could in the older drivers, but suddenly with the newer drivers, I get ONE option, and it's a 11520x2160 resolution which will turn one monitor into complete garble, and the other 2 will simply turn off, so now I can't use my computer and have to pull out the cables for the monitors so I can actually see and reset everything etc.
It's a constant ball ache dealing with this until you go through these steps to fix it. Great video, thanks. And a huge thanks to whoever made that little utility.

Thanks. It really depends on budget. The Rhode NT-USB is an excellent mic for a good price that’s easy to set up. As for webcams I’m using Razer Kiyo as they have a ring light in them which is useful for lighting darker areas of the rig like the pedals.
Have a look at my rig tour video. It goes through a lot of the details of my gear.
Next step is to build another PC to run the rig so I can use my current PC to stream from. I’m having issues with frame drops while streaming now I have the 3 screens. It’s a bit much for the 8086k and 1080Ti.

I have a mixed setup with two 27" monitors on the side and a 34" UW in the center all 1440P vertical and I can't get them to work in surround, it's annoyed me enough that I am actually considering changing back to 3x standard monitors (looking at 3x Neo G8 monitors)
I felt like the mixed setup was the best of all worlds as they supposedly added mixed resolution support.
I can keep my 3x monitors for productivity, have an UW for games that do not work in surround, and then have super surround for what's left.
But, I have never had it working in surround. If this one video with one of the same software I have already tried actually fixes my issue... man first of all saving me a lot of money buying even more monitors, but also a lot of grief lol.
Unfortunatly this was not the issue for me, so not a viable fix. So just ordered the 57" Neo G9 and 3x Neo G8's time to upgrade to something new.

The displays were just black and nothing happened... restarting the machine and nothing happened, all black. I could use another monitor to turn on the machine and execute the reset all. After reading the post about the new version, it says there to use the restart.exe after the changes. I did it and it worked for me. Perhaps if it happens to someone else, try the same and it might work.. Again, a bit of a old trick but thanks for the help ;-)

Everything goes great till you run restart64 and all three monitors go dark and will not reset themselves. I hook up to another monitor via HDMI and reset to factory setting and try again. Same result. I contacted Will and he thought I must of accidentally deleted one of the resolution settings that is needed. I saw I will have a problem not a big one for sure doe, but still will this be able to solve it?
I bought two additional MSI monitors, but they are 1440p 144hz instead of 1080p 144hz like mine was, the website had that info wrong and model like wtf..
So nvidia surround gives me only 60hz option because on mine it's 144hz in settings in others it's like 143.XX and I think that's why it doesn't show in surround..

Will this work if all your monitors are NOT the same resolution? I have an 35" ultrawide (21:9 - 3440x1440) in the middle flanked by two 27" (16:9 - 2560x1440) monitors that I've been trying to do this with, but haven't found any solutions so far.

It should do if you leave the native resolution of each panel as the maximum. Haven’t tried though.

@@astroskyofficial Unfortunately no. Upon further research, if memory serves, Nvidia surround ONLY works if all monitors are the same resolution, and there's no way around this. So in my case I'd either have to upgrade my 27s to 35 UWs, or downgrade my UW to 16:9.

Will Hi, I have a relevant issue and wondering whether I should use CRU to fix it, any tips are welcome. My monitors are the Gigabyte g32qc 1440 165hz, two of them are the g32qcA and one is g32qc. The issue is that the two are 164.998 hz and one is 164.802 hz so in nvidiasouround I get up only up to 120hz as one is not recognized as 165. When I choose just the two A monitors the 165 option is available. Just in case I got my DisplayPort cables upgraded , set the monitors individually to 165 but still in souround I get up to 120. I cannot find a way to solve the issue. Thanks in advance. Best, Kos from Sunny Greece

same, I'm currently using two ultrawides on the side of a 16:9. Acer X34P on the left, LG 27GL850 in the middle, Acer X34 on the right. All are 1440p tall and capable of 120hz, 144hz, and 100hz respectively. I try to set surround and it sets them to something around 3000x728 as if these are all 720p panels... no idea how to get them fixed yet. None of the displays had anything that I needed to delete like in this video, so unfortunately, this video didn't help me at all :/ I'm also on a 2080Ti with all three monitors plugged in via Displayport, so there's no HDMI weirdness going on either

Hello good sir, any idea as to why when I open up CRU, and select my Samsung odyssey g9, it says the resolution is 2000x1000 under detailed resolution. The monitor is a 5120x1440 res display. I think I could add a resolution with the correct numbers with the "add" button, and maybe it would register, but I'm scared that I could ruin my display.
    I have a RTX 3090 2 Asus 27" displays at 2560x1440

    1 Samsung 49" 5120 x 1440
