Can't u change the Display Zoom in the Goggle settings to get a full sharp image?
Oh crap you can! WTF was I thinking?
@@JoshuaBardwell, I'm confused. I was under the impression that the walksnail cameras are native 4x3 sensors, are they not? If they are, wouldn't you be better off using the system in 4x3 to make the viewing experience better?
I don't think it's true that all WS cameras are native 4:3. The V2 camera is native 4:3 but the Pro camera is 16:9. So if you want the low-light sensitivity of the Pro camera you can't also have the 4:3 aspect ratio. You can see here: czcams.com/video/IFDkwY1pIjE/video.html&si=7b8yoAHCkYGxFqVe
But either way, the OSD elements in the corner of the goggle screen are blurry unless you reduce the FOV to pull them inwards.
I don’t think that feature works. Doesn’t work on my goggles at least. My camera is 16:9 pro camera.
Edit: Oscar lang also says the zoom out feature doesn’t work. Just like the v1 goggles.
@@nuddin99 Damn okay lets see If it works for my face :/ Else I might send them back and go for the old Avatar Goggles
Something reviewers are missing is that the old goggles for $370 don't have any antennas included, but the Goggles X do. That is easily $60 or more you will have to immediately spend. So if you consider that the prices are almost the same.
I could have sworn v1 goggles originally came with 4 omni antennas, later versions came with 2 patch 2 omnis. 🤔🤔
@@fpvsmurf ? You can just check if you don't believe me. 🤔
went to about 5 websites to confirm.

1x Walksnail Avatar Digital HD FPV Goggles
1x Lens Cleaning Cloth
4x Red Bird Antennas
1x XT60 Power Cable
1x Goggle Strap
1x Carry Case@@Bill_Bo
also it was the fatshark version that came with no antennas not the walksnail.
That's exactly why I went with the goggles x, plus it had hdmi in and it's future proof...way more for your money
Left DJI for walksnail and couldn't be happier. The entire walksnail Eco system is just better. Sure the 03 is an amazing piece of technology. But walksnail is a better experience and compared to the DJI v2/vista it's better. Add in 1s vtx and all the options out there.. 03/G2 beats it in image and range, but KY V1 walksnail gets the same range as thr dji v2/vista, but better quality in the glass, better latency (more stable) and more options for VTXs. Yeah I don't miss DJI at all.
Im staying with my V1s for the next year. Eventually will get the X. But im in no rush. Love the V1s
Sooooo you traded a Ferrari for a mustang… mmmmmm k😂
I smell bs especially bs that you even tried the 03.
@@Goldtech6973Its not BS. The vista is 720p, the 03 latency is not good if you push the quad to a certain point of authority that a few can.
@@xORLOCKxI’m exactly like you 100% agreed 👍 I had DJI and walksnail for like 6 months , decided to get rid totally on dji after that even for long range
@@Goldtech6973I keep hearing this from everyone, I'm getting a set of goggles 2 from dji and I'm thinking I'm gonna send them back, we shall see
For every fpv content i want to inform myself about you just have a video for it. All i want to say is thank you!
WS got a lot hooked through the vrx. Ppl love their micro friendly vtx. I
Had a dominator 3 and I needed diopters so they got me hooked and I want the goggles. The x pushed me to upgrade from the vrx. Can’t wait to get them.
Thank you for the review. Right now I'm using the Walksnail VRX with my beloved HDO2 goggles. The WS V1 goggles didn't have any real advantage to my setup (except the 1080p) and the missing analog in was a real dealbreaker because i have some long range analog wings. I'm glad I saved my money when the V1 came out so now I can buy the X.
Nice review 🤌 well done and well edited :) these are the videos that even as a non newbie i still watch, got very good structure going on atm on your channel mate 😊
You are a treasure of the community, thank you sir.
Only ever used walksnail goggles. Never had issues with em. Personally I love them
That FOV thing is my main problem with the Fatshark HD2's I'm currently using, but that was still a huuuge upgrade over the box goggles when I bought them second hand half a year ago lmao
As someone who only has the Recon HD entry level Walksnail box goggles the Goggles X are a pretty tempting looking upgrade.
The Recon HD are actually very good. Using goggles V1 and X are like looking through little keyholes. I love my Scouts which is the same frame as the Recon HD.
These are so nice , hoping HDzero catches up soon. I would like to see you try out the Rokid Max glasses. Same micro oled screen and no VRX, but I've been considering these with a standalone VRX.
Your literally the only one to catch the "Fake" snow. Good catch
Great review! Do you know if there are Analog modules with a built in DVR or some 'in between DVR' device that one can buy? And what about recording the HDMI out if using analog, can it be recorded to an android phone or sth via HDMI->USB-C ?
I'm geting these. My old analog FS Dom V2 unit still works like a champ. That said there is much to still like about analog. Range, price, very lightweight on the craft and the abitlity to setup a seperate inexpensive ground station for the same signal. Trying to shoehorn too much on one set creates complexity which degrades reliabiltiy. I'm just goning to lug two sets of googles.
Love my analogue still, best thing is everyone is going to digital and can now get analogue BNF's for hundreds less.
Personally still waiting for the next wave of digital goggles, till then analogue FTW
My volunteer fire department is currently using the Mavic-3 with RC-Pro controller.
The RC-Pro has HDMI output and we are using the HDMI output to send video to a pair of goggles for our drone operator.
We have the Orca FPV Pilot goggles which has HDMI in and are relatively happy with them.
We’d like to add a second pair of goggles and wondering how the Walksnail X compares to the Orca.
Thanks!
I buy. Tommorow a fatshard hd3. With a lil tbs receiver for 120€ iam fine with analog. I like it more than digital but i think. Analog or digital is more an personal preference than a real choice both systems has his own good and bad points and both are great to fly
Hopefully, the OpenIPC FPV project will be wiping out all of these issues for the hobby the same as what ELRS did. Cheers
Thank you for so much info in one video. Answered a ton of questions for an old analog FPV fart like me. Also, weird to be wearing a jacket from a gas station.... 🤣😂
What about 1080p 100hz mode?? Almost nobody talking about it,wonder why?
This was the most expensive video I have ever watchef 🤣. I am sold.
5 months later: me too! 😆🤣
Walksnail is bidirectional communication. What is the control data bit rate and power (tx from the goggles to vtx)? This is interesting because there is a range in which the channel transmitted from the goggles (control data) will limit the range regardless of the connection of directional antennas on the receiving channels in the goggles.
How good could Walksnail get if more people went with them instead of DJI. I refuse to send any of my money to a company that shows little interest in providing what the FPV community wants.
You're going to see a lot of cool stuff comingfrom walksnail in the future.... they are working on 20+ km range vtx, as well as new system all together and they will sell an upgraded vxr board for the goggles X to upgrade the goggles
My question exactly. A company made for FPV and we trash them.

DJI laugh at you
Dji has a new set of goggles that has new features that we didn't ask for but really need and never thought about needing that's the surprise things about dji that no one else thinks of u til we really need it later when RID comes in full swing.
DJI could stop right now for ten years and Walk Snail, HD Zero, TBS still couldn’t compete.
But Bardwell, you haven't mentioned, how to take off the LED slit eyes and put on the fitting patch antenna (which I bought and have no idea, how to put them on...)
Good review, was a little worried my order from Rotor Riot for the new goggles was going to be regretted but since I only use analog once in a while, these will do just fine and I won't have to lug three sets of different pairs of goggles around any longer. Up side is these also look a bit more compact like the new DJI goggles so even more room in the bag. Weird that whole static issue though. 🤔
Rotoriot shipped mine yesterday(well shipped as in printed the label) I am pissed though since I paid for UPS but the sent the USPS. USPS just sent a package I needed from Columbus ohio 20 min from my house to Wichita kansas "by accident" so now it will be 3 days late. I am happy they shipped them but I paid for UPS with insurance USPS only has insurance up to 100$ Since the label was printed but it has not actually shipped they will fix it and send UPS. If they do or had I would get them saturday instead of USPS Tuesday. Not sure why I can get a package from California in 2 days but 5 days from florida......
@@christopherconkright1317 give Rotor Riot a call on Monday & let them know, nicely, what has happened. They are probably so swamped with their move and getting all these goggles in that they just made a human error. 😉 They are very good about responding and problem solving with you, provided you are respectful, I assure you. 😉❤️
@@KimFusedFPV I just hope if they get lost in the mail they will replace them. The shipping method i chose had 500$ insurance if lost the shipping they chose has no lost insurance. My first thought when it came out….
What will JB say
3 months later…… HaHa! Finally man Thankyou!
When talking about the HDMI passthrough with your phone: it might be some sort of HDCP compliance mechanism built into the chip that controls the HDMI port.
That's possible I guess. The phone worked correctly when it was doing Samsung Dex but when it switched to screen mirroring, the passthrough didn't work.
Great review man! 🍺🍺
Fat Shark Dominator as of today $380. 4 antennas $80. Total $460. Goggle X = $460.
What about 1080p 100 test?
Can you use these to practice on a sim? I would love to play Liftoff or Velocidrone with goggles instead of a monitor.
Should I buy it after knowing about the heating issues of the goggles. I'm from India which is already hot enough
I am still flying analogue, mind you lately I have been flying mainly micro builds for the last few years however the units are getting smaller I am ready to finally make the jump but I am stuck between choosing the HDZero goggles and these new Walksnail goggles
I pre-ordered the new goggles X and totally planned to use it with my hd0 quads I also plan to use it with my analog quads so I only have to haul these goggles and my DJI out to fly now I don't need to take three and four pairs of goggles
thank you for this. it seems that since the Walksnail receiver along with the HDZero goggles supports the high refresh, along with the high refresh of HDZero, as well as their fancy analog wizardry, that the HDZero goggles seem to continue to be the best choice for someone who wants the best experience from as many worlds as they can.
@yarbsfpv thank you for THIS comment lol. i'm about to buy a large HDZero lot based on JB's video on those goggles, and i just saw this video and it's more recent I was worried
@@gr3yh47 do note : for the sake of the most information, this dude Mayday.Aerial has a vid up from a few days ago where he does talk about a few issues specifically using the walksnail receiver with the hdz gogs.
Thanks a bunch for the review, Joshua! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
I'm super happy with the HDO Goggles. Hard to get away from the 540@90
I think its personal preference analog is way cheaper to repair on the drone side than a digital system
Walksnail have good idea... but they release product not finish... i think they will have a good potential in the next year... but for now for me it's not ready and the differrence of the price between DJI is not big enough for me to change.
Hi. How does the goggles x compare to the dominator HD for nose pressure? I have a lot of nose pressure with the dominator and wanted to know if the goggles x would improve on that aspect. Thanks.
Joshua it's been a little while since your video comparing the range and penetration of various video systems. Do you find the new walksnail hardware performs well but slightly worse than DJI?
Yes it's close to on par with V2/Vista, and noticeably not quite as good as O3/G2.
What are the best combination for camera TX and GOOGLES for rc aeroplane?
17:11 I have my Attitude V6 for analog. I can't have a digital blackout on an analog signal.
I still want them, but I won't use them for analog unless I plan on a digital processing included.
I feel ya' JB.
We like the "fade to ant races" analog broadcast.
At least it's an option.
Oh, wait.. no digital DVR?
Or it just records digital?
I'll watch this again.
The Goggles X Walksnail does not have analog DVR. It does have digital DVR.
@@JoshuaBardwell Thanks JB!
Ha I liked that ya called them Dji 03 goggles😅
What is the cushy foam on your fat sharks? Looks like that would make any goggle more comfortable
I may have missed it in this video, but I am looking for a way to take the output from my standalone Walksnail Receiver and split it out simultaneously to my Goggles and a monitor or TV for others to view while I fly. Everything I have found forces me to choose one output, but I want two at the same time.
Splitting hdmi introduces latency. The hdmi out on these goggles will work for you. Or when caddx eventually releases the app for these goggles which will give you a streaming option via wifi
Is it stupid to have both DJI and Walksnail. My feeling is that dji still can’t do a 75 freestyle drone yet and walksnail is small enough and light enough. Thoughts ?
I am still using the Fatshark HD2 from 2015 😅, just bought a hdzero receiver for it, very exited to try hdzero, and compare it to rapidfire analog.
nice work
I see what might the problem with your analogue video in Goggles X. I had the similar issue with my DJI goggles V2 and recently made post in troubleshooting-forum "DJI goggles V2 awful analogue video". Try to change analogue fatshark module
Oscar LLiang or how was his name again mentioned that HDMI sockets are too deep in the housing so only specially selected HDMI cables do fit. Can you confirm that JB?
I just spent big bucks on dji Integra goggles not to switch unless it's night and day difference in performance and quality. Right now I can fly 2miles away with no problem (scared to go further than that) lol
Walksnail still have a long way to catch up with Integra and O3. Walksnail is great if you want a 1s micro HD board. If you don't then stick with integra.... unless you cant help yourself when O4 comes out... see madstech
I use Walksnail. I bought them since I believe they will have a new chip for 4k within a year. I do have V1 also I got both figuring my son will fly with me now.
I fly Walksnail, DJI, HDZero, and analog. I also ordered the goggles X in the hope that it's optics are larger then the v1 goggles. I also hoped it might improve range in future but I don't think there is a 4K mode coming like you believe. The 4K that's coming is most likely 4K recording, not 4K transmission to goggles.
The v1 goggles have about 46 degree FOV. The X have about 50 degree. So they are larger. But in my experience this means you can't get the whole screen in view at the same time. The corners are always out of view or blurry.
@@ChrisHarmon1 They announced a 4k camera coming in their facebook group for next august maybe it will maybe not we will see.
@@JoshuaBardwell That is good to know. I have the Avatar HD Pro kit I can do 16:9 or 4:3 wonder if switching will help with this or so the website said I thought I maybe mixing up I read so much if not its good to know. I like the low light so can fly after work in winter longer
15:57 oh god... That comparisment analog vs digital is crazy... I think I should already switch from analog. :D
Year 2024 will be the year when I switch! In few months I'll find myself a new better paid job and then it's set! :D
I tried to put together an analog copter. I had trouble with the range. But omg after using the 03 no way. Digital has ruined me forever!
@@FPZzzz how big is diference in range/penetration when comparing analog to digital? From your comment it seems to be very big.
And you mentioned DJI system, but how about the other systems (WS and HDZ) - do they have much better range and penetration too when compared let's says to 1W analog?
I really can't answer that in all honesty. I think I did not have the Rush Tank vtx programed right in BF. I was only getting like 100 feet of range. I know they do way better than that. I do know the 03 gives you really good range and penetration as well as an excellent video feed. The clarity between 03 and the rush tank was no comparison. I do not think I can ever use anything other than digital now. I would like to get away from DJI if I could, only because of the software nonsense. Also the googles never fit me right. Thats why there are so many aftermarket foams made for the DJI googles. I have not tried WS or Zero yet, but I would like too. For me I think it would be WS. I believe you get more range with WS over Zero. @@TomicaCZ
Can this googles be used as VR set?
It looks like all basic hardware required for it is present.
It just requires proper software .
Could the wifi capability be a way that they could integrate dvr through an app??
God bless you Josh
VR goggles have been doing 100+ FOV for years now, there is no excuse for poor optics at 50.
So VR goggles get to take advantage of a decent GPU to modify the image on the LCD to account for distortion caused by the optics. They sort of "pre distort" the image in such a way that when it goes through the lens it comes out looking normalish. This allows them to use much cheaper optics, larger and cheaper LCDs and give you a bigger field of view. This probably could be implemented for FPV goggles but it would increase the manufacturing cost to add the processing power, increase the power consumption and add some latency.
Bluescreened about 1.5km out with my plane, digital goggles -> analog signal is iffy IMO
Like hdzero , hdmi to hdmi seems to either be too much loading for them or its literally a DRM prevention
Why not hold out for 2nd gen? 😅😊
Try flying in 4:3 its just a little narrower than 16:9
Waiting for some manufacturer to take up the Open IPC and make it commercially viable solution for fpv.
What screen is that? Where can I get one?
How do you see the setting of XR Glasses with HD VRX Module?
4:3 on a 16:9 display is pillar box
Dji : silent and appear when they ready,
Walksnail : loud at every promises...
You're not wrong.
How do you get telemetry from your camera ?
All that Walk Snail has to do to beat DJI is make a google with a great comfortable fit where you can see the screen perfectly. Then get the 4k going. Oh and no stupid activations or fly apps or any of that stupid stuff. Then DJI RIP!!!! as far as FPV freestyle is concerned! They will always have their high tech super expensive plastic drones though. That fall apart if you look at them the wrong way.
What FPV googles does Drone Racing League use?
Can you Wire a DJI HD camera to A Avatar HD VTX? I imagine it would be like putting a Canon lens on a Sony camera. Any improvement?
No that's not possible.
Well Kemosabe, I made a choice nearly two months ago (obviously still waiting for them, Ha, Ha) in the Walksnail Goggles X. I've resisted anything digital and have stuck with my Skyzone O4X for the last 3 years. I see you are certainly not keen on them for quite a few legitimate reasons. Thus I now have concerns, but I am also use to being putting it nicely,, disappointed with FPV products more so than not. Especially as the cost of items have grown exponentially vs quality being lackluster in reality. Part of the game I guess?? If you want to play in this theater of life then pay to play.
Lets talk about the shirt (2nd half) today, I want to learn about that.
Bardwell please look into caddx analog VRX module.
What is that?
5x the range! The record is more than 50km, ok i will buy then 🤗
I wish you'd actually measured the IPD at maximum distance using a pair of calipers...My current WS goggles are just not quite wide enough. Measure from the rim of one lens to the other...please...🤔😳😳😏🇬🇧
The V1 goggles do not include antennas. A nice set is about $75. So there really is no cost savings to buy V1s.
That fingerprint on the lens making my leg shake.
Bought them as soon qs i read analog in 😂
Have you checked if you can receive video at 100fps and output hdmi at 60hz at the same time?
I have the original walksnail goggles and if i set it to 100fps it won't output to a 60hz monitor (because the monitor doesnt support a 100hz signal) which is quite annoying
EDIT: it was mentioned that it doesn't work, walksnail really needs to fix this
No that's not possible. The goggles won't do framerate conversion like that. I've asked WS and they basically said it can't be done. Not that it was entirely impossible, butr that the goggles couldn't be made to do it.
You cant take walksnal to the races though right? Like DJI you cant race with. Its only HDzero and analog that racing works with?
yes and yes
The new Dji goggles are coming...
If i understand... Hdzero + walksnail vrx is better than walksnail googles x??? In less words of course, googles have the upgrade posibility
That sh#$% is hi tech, still rocking my Aomway goggles. They just won't die. 😊
I choose option #3. Continue using my Sky04X goggles with the external module until the new stuff drops. If it ends up being a serious improvement, get the new gear, or just not spend any cash in the event that it isn't anything special.
i have goggles x, tbs fusion and the URUAV 5.8G RX PORT 3.0-PLUS Receiver Board. Anyone know why i cant see analog. I switched modes and see the snow. but thats it. I have same band on tbs module as drone. I can see video on my box goggles but not over the goggles x analog. Can someone help? I can hook it up to a tv and see perfect video, but nothing in the goggles.
i would love to try out WS, however no live flight audio is a deal breaker for me
Analog it is!
@@JoshuaBardwell bwahaha yessirrie, 100% analog for me lol
I believe the real advantage DJI has over all this companies, is that they make a drone you can start with, that includes a radio and goggles, so when you move to manual FPV drones, and start building, you are forced to keep buying their products since it’s what you already have…. Whoever does the marketing for DJI is Genius….
nah bruh. you can get the same thing from iflight. Exept those are real FPV drones
Exactly, that's the boat I'm in, I just ordered the goggles 2 amd motion controller for my dji mini 3, love the drone, but I got the goggles and controller to get into fpv, o ly to realize they don't represent what fpv will feel like at all, and if I wamt to now do my own quad build, I would have to spend hundreds more for the components that are dji friendly..
@@bradical2723if you have the goggles 2, you don’t need to buy expensive stuff, you can build your future quads with caddx vista or RunCam Wasp which are both farely cheap compared to the O3 air unit, and you can use both with the dji rc 2, making it way cheaper than having to buy a separate receiver for each build.
its weird, I have a 144Hz Monitor that works this way over HDMI in Windows, but Walksnail doesn't work until I select "standard" framerate...
What does he mean “A lot of people aren’t analog anymore”? Is that really the case, Anybody know the stats on this?
where do they get these names?? 😕
Dji all day long and I have both goggles love.them both
Dji o3 has the option to shrink the image?
Yes. Well, and it turns out so does Walksnail, but I forgot because I never used the option until now.
I have to plug a phone into my dji goggles 2 and avata, to get the drone to fly. Is this normal for all drones. I’m a noob.
This is because the Avata is required to broadcast the pilot's location for RemoteID, but the G2 doesn't have GPS built in. The Integra and G3 have GPS built in and don't need the phone.
What's what's HDMI out even for?
Putting your image on a display for spectating. Recording your image with HDMI capture device.
hi is it possible to save analog dvr with the built in dvr? or it just works for hd walksnail ?
The Goggles X do not have any ability to record analog video. You'd need to use some external device.
Ty for the answer man, well i am just new in fpv hobby i have just ordered my boxer max to begin training on simulator as soon as i receive it but i am already thinking for the goggles and drone for the drone i think i will start with a meteor 75 pro with walksnail vtx but for the goggles choice is so hard hdzero looks very cool but have to add the walksnail vrx it's starting to make some high money ^^
Hello guys, does walksnail googles possible to connect with DJI air unit?
No. It's not possible.
Ty, already found answer, sad though (
so, if you already have all possible 100500 variants of all the goggles and shmoggles like JB does then maybe you may want to wait until WS release their "over 20km" upgrade and then decide if you should get one for your collection. I bought WS v1 first because they went cheap and I didn't know why. 3 days later the X goggles were released, that's why. So I bought X immediately and sent back WS v1 back without unpacking them. This is my FIRST digital goggles and I don't care about analog any longer - I simply refuse to fly analog anymore. And yes HDMI input means that I can use OpenHD! Latency? I do long range with fixed wings and I don't care about latency! Larger FOV? Yes I like even larger FOV like DJI goggles v2 has. Don't forget that WS will not put any efforts to support fat shark goggles no more because they have X now.
Why so many reviews stuck on 25mbps testing instead using 50mbps, did 50mbps on WS still lagging?
I tested on 50. Can't speak for others.
@@JoshuaBardwellgreat 👍👍👍👍
Problem with the hdzero goggles is they weigh a metric ton then you bolt on analog module and walksnail and you can’t stand up wearing them
I love mine, but they're like the Nintendo nes of goggles. I can't even put them in my bag with the analog module on. Even with that feature, I still prefer bringing my skyzones for convenience.
how to activate 50 mbps?
