It's so so wild to me that I just started FPV by running Liftoff. So when I decided to actually buy my first drone and do some more research, I'd watched Barwell before, but I couldn't believe that his yard was what I'd been flying on in Liftoff lol
been there done that...
What an awesome experience! Don't let the jerks in the comments make you feel like that isn't a cool experience lol.
I on the other hand was super hyped to boot up liftoff when I realized his yard was there 😆
@@BuffHD want a tee shirt?
That's awesome right! I love flying bardwells yard with the FT boar micro with 1104 7500kv on 2s in liftoff. It makes the whole place feel a lot bigger. And I'm a micro guy...says my ex...
Same, felt pretty weird how it’s exactly the same and so accurate
For every unanswered FPV question that I have in my head, Joshua suddenly releases an amazing video about it with clear answers as if he could read my mind...
brooo.... Its crazy I think.... Its not as simple as we think! CZcams algoss broooo😂
That's why I became patreon.
haha youtube algorithm Same happens to me
I have been 100% lost in the world of rates and how to find my perfect rates. This video explained it so well!!!!! Please continue helping out people like myself
After five years of flying, I've settled on 533, 533, and 512. No expo. Those are my race rates. If you're flying freestyle, don't use these! Thanks for all the help you've given the community JB.
Perfect timing, now that we've got DJI Rooted, BF OSD is back, now it's easy to tune rates without a laptop again 👌
I agree Dave . Heck yeah 💪🏻
Once I got my Speedy Bee Bluetooth adapter.. I never hooked my quad back up to my laptop.
Things like that are hard to part with.
@GEN - X - 三FPV三 I use the SpeedyBee App over USB on Android, i havent carried a laptop on years. But being able to land on a roof, pop open the menu and change settings without taking off the goggles is super helpful.
@@Fly_High_FPV yeah. You know I haven't needed to tune my quad in a long time and then I smashed my USB port on the flight controller.
I never even thought about using the the goggles but I haven't needed it.
Can i ask how to you open the osd menu???
"I'm Joshua Bardwell, and you're going to learn something today." This has got to be THE best tag line ever!!
Been flying sim for about 12hrs now, just using "recommended" rates from random google searches. Decided to give this a go, and within less than an hour, I'm already feeling infinitely more precise and smooth than in all those 12 hours. It was almost like a switch flipped. I can hit gaps with such better precision, turns are smoother, not overcorrecting/undercorrecting as much. Still by no means an expert pilot, but I'm feeling so much more confident. Your videos have been insanely helpful!
Been flying for 6 years... and this video, for some reason, was still so relevant. Thanks, JB!
As I still consider myself a noob I really don't know what I would do without JB thanks again for all the videos and keeping it simple for us.
JB, thanks for this great info. As a new (78yo) pilot (FPV), 2 years on camera drones. I was confused by the "rates". I am slightly more familiar with them now. Still confused but at least I think I can try and sort them out a little, just as soon as I can fly in ACRO. Got an Avata on release date and been stuck with the Motion Controller. My FPV Controller 2 should arrive in a few days, what a long wait. I am planning on re-watching this video several times before it arrives. Thanks for the info
JB you've been knocking them out of the park with your uploads! Another gem! 😎
I love watching this a year after it was released. Still some of the most useful information on the topic out there! I love how JB summed up exactly how I feel about yaw rates being higher because I loose too much precision on the throttle at high yaw stick deflections. Perfect!
Haha me too!
Finally a clear explanation of how to adjust the rates, Joshua. Thank you so much! I just started using Liftoff, while waiting to get my first FPV drone - the Avarta 2.
Another great video! BTW, you had great stuff in the "FlowState" documentary on FPV... Your analogy to FPV being like the view from speeder bikes in "Return of the Jedi" was perfect... :) That's what makes it addicting!
I tried
roll/pitch
50, 900, 0.25
yaw
800, 900, 0
and I'm really kinda loving that thanks josh
Very cool, love the simple explanation. JB delivers.
Fantastic explanation and tutorial, Joshua! Thanks! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
This helped me get a MUCH better understanding of what's going on with my rates and what each one does. THANKS JB !!!
You explain stuff so well. It's so easy to understand, and you describe it in a way that makes sense.
Agreed.
Thank you JB - this has simplified enormously the effects that each of the settings has for me, very nicely explained
Thank you so much Joshua, I really just asked for this under your extreme rates experimental video ❤
Awesome guide, thanks a lot for putting this together. It's been very helpful for an absolute beginner as myself.
After tinkering with this hobby for more than 2 years finally understood the very basics of rates and tuning :-)
Thank you once again!
Excellent tutorial which I will take to heart as I learn on this hand-me-down Avata I just acquired.
Great video on rates JB, a lot of people skip tuning rates to their liking, will help a lot of people! ❤
Excellent video. Simple and clear. You did a great job.
awesome video! straight to the point! sooo many thanks to you, Joshua!
Awesome, thanks for the knowledge Joshua!
Thank you!!! Dialing in the rates, I finally got over the hump. I feel confident soaring now.
Thank you for these videos, I just started fpv and this has been some of the most valuable information to me
the most explanatory video I have ever watched. thank you for your effort
Awesome man thank you, I’ve been working on getting my throttle rate and mid tuned. Appreciate it man!
This was awesome. I finally managed to tune my micro, it flies awesome! Thank you and I bought your 5 inch using your link!!
This video was super informative and helpful. Much appreciated brother.
You hear thanks jb all the time. But everything I know about fpv in the last 11/2 is from watching your videos or a super chat. Fpv is hard to learn. And you put it into words that even I can understand. So THANKS again Jb for everything you do.
Flushfpv!!!
Thank you Joshua. Your explanations clear and educational.
Joshua, this was one of the most helpful videos. I really just sort of set mine by guessing. This is something I am going to take some time to do. Thanks!
Your tutorial videos on FPV is amazing. Being a new FPV flier I’m learning so much from watching your videos. You are a very good teacher.
Nice tune! Sounds great!
Great video! Thanks!
Such a logical three step approach, and super clearly explained as always. I really like having yaw 25% higher (center and max) than pitch/roll.
Super helpful! I had no idea what these were or why id adjust them. Just copied others rates and went! I greatly appreciate finding this video tho JB! Gonna do some re-learning!
Great video my man!! Keep it up. From St. Louis. Please go over PIDs next.
This was the piece I've been missing as a noob. Thank you Joshua!
Thanks man! You always teach me something!
Thanks, Josh... This helped me realized I'm not crazy with my rates. Specially for Yaw, I like it more in the center so it's higher than Roll and Pitch.
thank you for pointing out the yaw axis rate, I'm going to try it on mine so I can stay closer to center and see how it works!
Love your content did this with project blue falcon (RIP) a while back his tutorial was close to this it helped my flying tremendously
Thanks for this video!
20:40 a "Torque Curve" almost. Similar to a car or bike, how you can have a ton of small adjustment and then after a certain, or sperate points its exponentially more. Hint, hint Expo.
Great video very informative 👍
I've been going through all my quads, 1 by 1 to set the rates for that specific quad and how I fly them. My toothpicks, and 2s whoops are around 750, my 5" is around 550, cinewhoops around 350, and my 1s whoops around 800. My heavier 3" is about 600. I know it sounds dumb...but I fly each class for different things, and like a different feel for each.
Thank you very much for being able to explain even to me . See I have a terminal neurological disease and my bucket list is to learn free style before I become bedridden. I have MSA. Thank You for giving me the correct method of finding my rates. Austin Crawford. Just subscribed, but a huge Rotor Riot fan.
Thanks! I finally get it and for the forst time i think i gave my rates just right!
this is a great video, learning all of the aspects of controlled flight I believe it makes you a “more safe pilot” . I had to change my rates for my phantom four because in sport mode if you go to fast tweaks out the gimbal so they allow you to make profiles. I really enjoy the way my DJI inspire flies even though it’s an older drone and it’s not an FPV it’s still fun to fly, I used my rates from my DJI inspire and transfer them over to my DJI phantom four and it flew exactly the same. It’s fixed my problem with the phantom for being real twitchy. I’m more of a slow controlled cinematic type drum pilot I don’t do flips or acrobats of any kind. I just drive them at full throttle and have fun with it.
So awesome, this is exactly what I needed.
Great video explanation, thank you ! 👍
Haha 20:20 I thought my neighbors dog was barking and I could hear it through my baby monitor while my daughter was napping 😅 Great video! When I discovered expo on both FPV and DJI, what a difference it makes to getting more cinematic footage!
Thank you for this detailed and fun video. Im trying all this in DRL, I don't have a fpv drone. God bless 🙂🙏🏼❤️
Finally, was really waiting for JB explanation of this
new to fpv, this will come in handy, thanks
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank!!!! you!!!! Finally, a year ago (lol) a decent explanation & example! Now I can actually wrap my head around the rates
I gave this method a try in Liftoff and found the perfect rates for me. I am more comfortable flying around and I am able to hit tight gaps without any issues. I am very excited to give my new rates a try on my quad as soon as spring comes around. Thanks JB!!!
Keep in mind that Liftoff is still quite far off real flying so you might have a completely different feeling.
Super video 👍
The video I needed, Thank you so much sensei, now, going back to your Backyard on Liftoff to train !
Learned allot, thanks for that
JB you can make the most difficult task become so so easy. You’re a great teacher! Thank you for all the videos. Can’t wait to get my tiny hawk 3 set up.
Does the beta flight work for a mac? I don’t have a pc.
All of this will work on a mac not to worry
perfect teacher!
Im gonna learn actual tonight with this video how to thank you again n again joshua u make us better
Thanks JB! I started flying acro about three weeks ago on the avata. I watched this video yesterday, played with the rates on the DJI virtual flight app for a while last night and then set the same rates on my avata this morning and was hitting gaps and orbiting shit I wouldn’t have even tried yesterday let alone successfully completed! I still have some fine tuning to do but thank you very much. This was the most helpful video I’ve seen on CZcams and had an immediate 100% improvement in my flying abilities. Great stuff!!!
Great description of the compromises and transitions between fine control rates in the centre of stick range and the need for higher rates for snap moves at the extremes of stick range. Human reaction times are going to be a key part of the upper end of both of those rates for any individual. FPV flying is primarily VISUAL and visual reaction times are slightly slower than those for touch and sound. Visual reaction times have been reported in the range 190-250 milliseconds, with XY genotype faster than XX, and people who exercise tending to be faster than those who are more sedentary. (Whether that is cause, or effect is unclear.) Came to essentially the same understanding and tuning of centre and full deflection rates before I saw the video.
thank you for making this video
Thanks!
Amazing video. I like my max rates more of a switch then a curve
Thanks Buddy!
3rd time watching this, goin to the park in the AM and hope to hold myself to doin this and not just ripping :) TY !
JB your camera is probably fitted at the front of the frame so on rolls it's spinning as fast as a centre of rotation but on Flips your camera is travelling longer like in the circle :)
same if you place camera on the bike wheel and move it away from the centre.. it will take small circle move when near the centre and longer if near the edge of the wheel:) basically it's spinning the same but your camera is taking longer to do 360 :)
Love the shirt!
Great explanation
thank you!!
Exactly what I need thanks
Become a Patron! Tuition is respect. Thanks again for another enlightening class.
Another good video.
Great video this and the betaflight videos have helped so much. ? My question is where do I set the different rates between angle, horizon and acro modes. Thanks
1200 for micros feels awesome 2-3"inch great info!
Joshua,
You blinded me with science!
Thanks. MCK preset is great for me.
thanks jb
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how incredible a time we live in? Here's a guy with a passion for flying quadcopters and is able to actually make a living doing it. Thanks JB for your many hours of quality content. Thanks to you 'I learned something today'.
Kemosabe, This along with the other rate experiment you posted a few days ago have really helped me more than words can express. I've taken this seriously and found two the Kawds I've never liked, to becoming as good a the ones I've preferred the most. The same for my camera drone the Andy Shen Geyser. It's made a tremendous improvement. If people will take several hours of their time to personally tune the Kuads they like the least first, they will be surprised and certainly going to rates tuning their go-to kwads much improved.
I feel like you've been giving me this speech/tutorial since we had only F3 boards. Between you and stingy, my rates are all jacked up still 🤣🤣🤷
I discovered your videos after playing liftoff, nice playground !! 😉
Thanks
Thank you dor explaining. My controller is so sensitive and now I know how to fix that !
Much appreciated.
Amazing tutorial not only for beginner:)
brilliant! really worked for me too :)
I’ve been waiting for this video for 5 years
Learned this first with on road foam and carpet racing. Airtronics m-8, have 2. 72 mhz. Son and I raced in '90s. Hanover Pa. track 4wd cars
Brilliant vide and explained so well. I’m new to Manual Mode and have the DJI Avarta. The default rates are different for Roll Pitch and Yaw. Why would they do that? Am I right in thinking that you should try and get them all the same as a starting place if you can?
