This car is great news! Interesting move ditching the 4X2 rear-wheel drive and releasing a front-wheel drive instead. It might surprise the driving snobs but there is the 4X4 option for them. The front-wheel drive alternative frees back legroom space and makes of this little SUV a real five passenger vehicle. The body style is a blast. BMW masters the art of creating highly desirable cars.
I got a 2013 X1. I want this one it looks much better, but I would not like it front wheel drive and four wheel drive surely will be expensive. What should I do? Is BMW going to become front wheel drive manufacturer now or what?
Has anything been done to the rear seat. I've had BMWs for the last 20 year swapping around every 2 to 3 years. I have been told that the cars were getting more and more uncomfortable in the back. I now have a 2012 X1 and everyone tells me sitting in the rear is like sitting on a wooden bench.
They have got to price it right. The new Tiguan will offer more for less money, also strong competition over this side of the Atlantic from Infinity with QX50!
Shame they switched to FWD platform, Luckily by 2015 X1 28i is based on e90 3 series regarded as best handling BMW platform plus its few of last BMW still sold with magnificent hydraulic power steering vs crappy electric ones.
For 95% of people this will be a much much better and more useful package than the current X1. NO WAY it will drive as well as the current X1. The current AWD X1 has the BEST steering on any modern BMW. It is amazing one of the best steering systems on the modern market. The firm controlled ride with a tendency to oversteer slightly when pushed will be missed. This is what to be expected as BMW becomes more and more main stream. No one person has control. It is all about the design team.
vladutzzvm you need to test them on your own. regardless of this tests/reviews etc, what u like is the best for you. otherwise there would be only 3-4 car brands in the world. ;)
vladutzzvm Sorry while I never was a fan of the X series from BMW except from the X5, the Q3 is simply the most boring compact SUV ever - it looks so goofy - only for pretentious people who have no eye for the actual car proportions (Very subjective) but sorry I hate that Q3 and I have a grin on my face every time I overtake one on the Autobahn. And well this new X1 certainly looks like it´s coming together better than nearly any former X BMW except for the X5. So I would be biased and say take the X1.
I know it looks better than the old one but this is not enough for one reason, it's looks like 5 Gt and X3 had a child :-/ Kidney grills are a little big and shoulder line makes a weird look from some angles. I like it but FWD... :-)
Nice, like it. X Drive? think he means X-Line?!? ...Xdrive is BM's 4x4 system. X-Line is the Spec level. Currently own a 2013 X1 X-Line model with Xdrive. Love it, decent runner, well spec'd with a sporty look from some angles (not the front on view mind!). I think this new model looks great, esp as its got more interior space, but looks way better and classier allround
Ste Young yes I wondered what he was on about too 😃. I have a 3 series xDrive and love it,but if I was to change my car I might look at getting one of these as they look great now.
***** Yea, that means shit reliability, you can't expect to get tons of hp out of a golf cart engine and expect it to last you 500k km or more like old bmw's.
***** I drive a RWD BMW myself as an everyday-car, and I would never ever consider going FWD. BMW's drive fantastically even when you're not using them for trackdays. I agree with you that most people probably don't give a damn as to how sporty their car is to drive.
derbigpr500 What is their "proper" cars? If we're talking M-cars, then yes, they'll probably stay RWD forever. But all other models will highly likely end up being FWD as it is much cheaper to produce cars on that platform. They've already started with the 2 Series Active Tourer and now this X1. And BMW has said that the forthcoming 1-series will be FWD.
Because of their nationality?? Silly boy, you are buying what others are telling you to, rather than going out and seeing things for yourself. Brand name means nothing. Most german cars are more than 60% built in China/India, whereas most Japanese cars are 90% built in Japan. You can't beat that
cesar malabrigo mujica X3 is taller, wider and longer than the X1... has a RWD based X-drive system... can be bought with that sweet inline 6 engine... is a real SAV... can off-road very well... i wonder why people buy that huge ass X5... that's where i feel confused... X1 is a proper compact luxury crossover... much like the MB GLA and Audi Q3... totally different target market segment...
Hitesh Bhagwani Lol an X3 can't off-road mate. No BMW or any German luxury SUV can. No locking diffs, no low range and they all have independent suspension. Complete trash off-road.
FWD 3 cylinder diesel? Are they fucking kidding? And no gasoline engines? Am I the only one thinking that the downsizing the engines and the approach of hybrid or full electric cars that manufacturers embraced lately (even BMW) is bad. I mean don't get me wrong, electric cars seem promising, but having to wait 12 hours just to do 200-400 kms depending on how you drive it IT'S FUCKING TERRIBLE. I would buy a X1 35i engine everytime over that 3 cylinder golf-cart engine.
I don't like it, I prefer the old one. It looks like an MPV and the interior is really disappointing in terms of design. Though, there's no doubting the fact that interior is top-notch. I'd buy the beautiful Mercedes GLA over this one.
Stylish but also sort of conventional looking. FWD. Engine/tranny sitting side-saddle (on and forward of front axle as opposed to on and behind it), for less then optimal weight distribution. New Japanese aisin 8 speed vs. old ZF 8 speed. Less driver engaged cabin (just look at how tall the gear stick is). Battery in the front engine bay. Sorry folks, this is not a BMW
WTF BMW! Ok, the 2 series Grand Tourer is a new concept in the brand and I accepted it's FWD, but the last X1 was a nice RWD option in it's segment, despite it wasn't the most capable or pretty, but it has the BMW badge and a real one, not a fake one with a FWD chassis. That's not a BMW. What the hell is wrong with them... They can't replace a RWD with a FWD... Sorry, but I'm so disappointed. And I hope they won't do the same with the rest of the model range.
The first X1 looked great to me, but this looks pretty generic. Like the current 5 series. It's just some BMW with the grills and all. Nothing special about the way it looks.
DAZ605 Well, BMW has a tradition of making driver focused interiors, with the central console pointed towards the driver, so everything is easily accessible. The ergonomics are great with this design. The interior of a BMW in general looks much boring if you're sitting in the passenger seat, than when you're sitting on the driver's. In an e36 as a passenger if you move your seat to the most upfront position, you can't even see the speedo and can barely see the buttons on the central console. Yet, as a driver, you never notice anything wrong with this aspect.
BMW needs to sack even more executives who really don t make the right choices on BMW product lines we have seen this before on Mercedes too. The general rule is that small cars need light interiors. The leather options seem to be 1970' black or British leyland brown with no other options unlike Mercedes.A reasonable speced car will ad some 20 % to the sale price which means the competition runs away with the customer. Basic colours are disappointing and should include red, black, ivory white and azure blue.Whilst interiors should be available in red leather, light or tan brown or light grey. The most interesting car in the line up will be the three cylinder diesel coming in at around just under 25 k to appeal to the UK governments new mobility buyer market restrictions.A market BMW has received criticism for exclusion of there cars to severely disabled and war veterans. Greetings CZcams from Miami Beach! My two cents - I really wanted to like , err love this car because its affordable to me, but jeez it looks like the Fugly 2 series GT. I have a F30 328 but it shall be the last BMW i buy new or old, now if someone wants to give me one then all for it. But Seriously why are all the X models ( except the X3) pure visual trash now? What are these designers smoking? But after all is said and done, their sales have heavily shoot up recently , so i suspect they’ll keep the fuckery going.
Ok the top of the interior such as dash is nice and stuff. And the sport seats are great with the leather. But I will agree with you on the lower hard plastic. Where the glove box is is the the really only cheap thing about the interior
Looks like a baby X5! And no more estate/wagon-ish thing. I like it
Now that looks nice! The old one not so much
This car is great news!
This will be in the top 3 best selling BMWs. Massive improvement inside and out.
Yup, we already decided to buy one. Much hype :D
***** i'd buy! what a stunner compared to the old one... seriously..
What's next? BMW X0.5?
FYI - XDrive stands for the 4WD model. Doesn't effect the trim. Although the one you're showing looks like it has the luxury pack.
Finally...a practical product from BMW...
They just came out with the first one..
Dude, do you work for Travel Channel also?
massive improvement over the previous model! Makes the active tourer look a bit redundant.
I got a 2013 X1. I want this one it looks much better, but I would not like it front wheel drive and four wheel drive surely will be expensive. What should I do? Is BMW going to become front wheel drive manufacturer now or what?
What about the X3? Does this replace it or will both be available? They both look the same size.
Would this be a great car for a high school student? Q5 Audi or Bmw X1? X3? X5?
I’m really confused because I’m looking on car guru and there are 2015s that don’t look anything like this
Has anything been done to the rear seat. I've had BMWs for the last 20 year swapping around every 2 to 3 years. I have been told that the cars were getting more and more uncomfortable in the back. I now have a 2012 X1 and everyone tells me sitting in the rear is like sitting on a wooden bench.
Pretty nice! Like it much more than the old X1. Now it looks like a real SUV.
Can someone please explain how fwd is cheaper to make when all you have done is make rwd. I'm sure just r&d on the fwd platform was pricy
Thanks for distinguishing the difference between 80mm or 8cm, I can go back to chewing on my squeaky toy
Wow it looks beautiful! I like it more than the old one
Price? Start selling?
This actually looks MUCH better than the X5!
the X1 has grown up from ugly duckling into handsome creature... good job BMW, the only thing that im gonna miss from the previous X1 is the RWD
This new one looks much better!!
What's next, FWD 3 series?
BMW adding more FWD cars to their range. Not good.
disgraceland uk What do you mean "more"? This is the first one ever.
derbigpr500 WRONG!
***** That's not the point, though. This is a BMW, not an Audi. Not good enough.
disgraceland uk go test drive the series 2 active tour with FWD and you wont believe it is FWD.
Alex N No thank you. Not only do I not care for FWD but it's also pig ugly.
Like what they've done with the X1. Hated what they did to the X6, so much so that I got a Macan instead of replacing my old X6.
They have got to price it right. The new Tiguan will offer more for less money, also strong competition over this side of the Atlantic from Infinity with QX50!
Trust me fwd with front engine is better than a rwd
Thank you very much
Looks great I think
Shame they switched to FWD platform, Luckily by 2015 X1 28i is based on e90 3 series regarded as best handling BMW platform plus its few of last BMW still sold with magnificent hydraulic power steering vs crappy electric ones.

this is beautiful.
Ok so does the U.S. 2015 look different than this
Much better looking, looks like a bigger BMW 1 series!
Now its better 👍👍👌
I love this car...
What would you guys choose between the new x1 and the new q3?
vladutzzvm you need to test them on your own. regardless of this tests/reviews etc, what u like is the best for you. otherwise there would be only 3-4 car brands in the world. ;)
***** BMW has some top notch diesels though mate.
vladutzzvm Sorry while I never was a fan of the X series from BMW except from the X5, the Q3 is simply the most boring compact SUV ever - it looks so goofy - only for pretentious people who have no eye for the actual car proportions (Very subjective) but sorry I hate that Q3 and I have a grin on my face every time I overtake one on the Autobahn. And well this new X1 certainly looks like it´s coming together better than nearly any former X BMW except for the X5. So I would be biased and say take the X1.
Mazda CX5....
Two of my clients switched from X3 to CX5s
vladutzzvm X1 is the best car for me.With petrol engine.
Stunning!!!
That interior
Much better than X3 interior
I know it looks better than the old one but this is not enough for one reason, it's looks like 5 Gt and X3 had a child :-/ Kidney grills are a little big and shoulder line makes a weird look from some angles. I like it but FWD... :-)
Nice, like it. X Drive? think he means X-Line?!? ...Xdrive is BM's 4x4 system. X-Line is the Spec level.
Currently own a 2013 X1 X-Line model with Xdrive. Love it, decent runner, well spec'd with a sporty look from some angles (not the front on view mind!).

Ste Young yes I wondered what he was on about too 😃. I have a 3 series xDrive and love it,but if I was to change my car I might look at getting one of these as they look great now.
what's your height Mr. Rix
At last!!!
This looks much more premium than the Mercedes GLA 250
oh my who thought putting the badges on the side of the doors is a good idea, look like an after thought
Estou Brasil ,vquero BMW X1 sdrive 2017 , 95000 reais.
want!
I'm sorry, did I hear FWD only?? OMG.
Ioanides001 You heard wrong... X1 available with FWD and AWD, only the 3 cylinder model will be FWD only.
3 cylinders in a BMW baby SUV! OMG.
***** before you think this is relevant, make a quick research and see how special that 3 cyl unit is and what the output is.
***** Yea, that means shit reliability, you can't expect to get tons of hp out of a golf cart engine and expect it to last you 500k km or more like old bmw's.
+Ioanides001 AWD as well...
Why does everybody moan about fwd? You don't even notice it in real life and people don't really need rwd..
Very nice!
I watched this video at less than 301 Views
PS. What's with BMW and FWD now? That's really sad
***** Yes, it is really sad. You have to spent alot more money to get a RWD BMW, if they end up just going with RWD exclusively at the M-models.
pulse83net What the hell are you talking about? All BMW's are RWD, and they will never make their proper cars FWD.
***** I drive a RWD BMW myself as an everyday-car, and I would never ever consider going FWD. BMW's drive fantastically even when you're not using them for trackdays. I agree with you that most people probably don't give a damn as to how sporty their car is to drive.

***** I know. I'm just saying there's no RWD version for those of us that like to go sideways at every roundabout
is it just me or does this look strikingly identical to the Hyundai Santa Fe specially from the side and back.
Vedant Shimpi That's because all the designers at Hyundai get homework every day ,and that homework is to copy the design of German cars.
derbigpr500 Santa Fe came 2 years before this. Duh...
Vedant Shimpi his point is that the Santa Fe looks like an old BMW X series, and it has for many years. The Koreans have never been style innovators.
Hearing "diesel only" pissed me right off.
superb
Its biggest car in the class
People, forget this piece of shit.
Get a Mazda CX5 2.2 diesel 4wd - looks way better, goes way faster, it's more fuel efficient, and just as refined
No offense but that's a Japanese car and the X1 is German, not in the same league I'm afraid.
Because of their nationality??
Silly boy, you are buying what others are telling you to, rather than going out and seeing things for yourself.
Brand name means nothing. Most german cars are more than 60% built in China/India, whereas most Japanese cars are 90% built in Japan.
You can't beat that
I like All-new 2015 BMW X1 revealed - Auto Express
FWD BMW?!? Blasphemy!!! (Ever since that 2-Series MPV-thinggie)
So, where does this leave the X3??? BMW is getting really confused with their own products.
cesar malabrigo mujica X3 is taller, wider and longer than the X1... has a RWD based X-drive system... can be bought with that sweet inline 6 engine... is a real SAV... can off-road very well... i wonder why people buy that huge ass X5... that's where i feel confused...

looks better than the new x5
Who cares about the new features on it. It has a BMW badge on it, it will sell like hot cakes.
UNPURE!!!! BURN IT WITH FIRE!
Not good to hear the words FWD matched with BMW.. Hopefully this doesn't spread
really nice
That's not even a SUV, it's still a CUV. Way way way too small to be a SUV, and based on a car platform. Nice try though, guys.
The black bmw is way better fight me
26k? hmmm doubt that... more like 36k before getting it out the door....
FWD 3 cylinder diesel? Are they fucking kidding? And no gasoline engines?

故意找个小个子来介绍 X1 !!!
为什么别的介绍就不是这个尺寸的
Stylish but also sort of conventional looking. FWD. Engine/tranny sitting side-saddle (on and forward of front axle as opposed to on and behind it), for less then optimal weight distribution. Why does the car looks so dull and sad. And the interior doesn't feel too premium either.
if BMW decided to go FWD, I'd rather go for the Audi...
My mom says it's cute
I hate the dashboard ...
The first X1 looked great to me, but this looks pretty generic. Like the current 5 series. It's just some BMW with the grills and all. Nothing special about the way it looks.
Save a few grand & buy a 1 series better I every way
looks nice still not a SUV though lol
Exterior is really good. Interior on the other hand looks like it's been stolen from an Audi A1, with more focus on the driver.
DAZ605 Are you trolling mate?
Mzn T No, it really does look bad for such a car. Dont know about the ergonomics, but it looks cheap for me, that's for sure.
DAZ605 Well, BMW has a tradition of making driver focused interiors, with the central console pointed towards the driver, so everything is easily accessible. The ergonomics are great with this design.

And who the hell needs a driver focused interior on a FWD FAMILY(!) Crossover?
DAZ605
Trust me, there's a niche for this too. In Europe these cars sell really well.
now thats more like it!
...although the interior is getting really boring.
Why the fuck are BMW starting to make front wheel drives! Stop BMW! It's against nature!
BMW needs to sack even more executives who really don t make the right choices on BMW product lines we have seen this before on Mercedes too. It's so hideous and terrible!!!!! Make it stop!!!!
Is it finally a good car? The earlier x1 was the most rubbish bmw ever
Did you ever drive one bud? (I mean a 28i or 35i) they drove incredible
promodelred
I mean they might've drove well but what you got for your money whoo you didn't even get infotainment and you got hard plastic in a BMW
Ok the top of the interior such as dash is nice and stuff. And the sport seats are great with the leather. But I will agree with you on the lower hard plastic. Where the glove box is is the the really only cheap thing about the interior
looks weird.....
