In 1972 my parents bought a colour tv set called an autovox at what was then a discount warehouse called Comet here in scotland it was a 26 inch tv and the box was absolutely massive that it came in it was a good set had one fault under warranty the picture turned green!
I had one of these some years ago and I noticed that when I parked near some of the stores in town that I got a great view of the inside of the store. Obviously the 2.4ghz frequency is widely used for wireless cameras.
I wanted a really cheap camera in the bathroom for severe weather, news, or otherwise. My solution was a cheap, 16:9 rear view monitor screen and some cheap, USB amplified speakers. I connected those to an old ATSC adapter/tuner. It gets the job done. The monitor and amplified speakers are powered by the same 12vdc, 2a power supply. The 12 volts is converted to 5 volts with a cheap, USB car adapter that has the car socket connectors removed with the 12 volt wires just passing through the old tip hole and soldered into place. It gets the job done for just simple television viewing. The monitor stretches the 4:3 signal to 16:9 so I just stretch have the ATSC box stretch the height to fill in the 4:3 signal which is returned to correct proportion by the monitor. All the 4:3 channels get stretched to 16:9. It's not really an issue, and many 480p channels are switching to 16:9 anyway broadcasting the bars on the sides.
Thanks for the video, wish there was a bit closer up on how to use the little red wire connectors. I am scared I will wreck mine not understanding exactly how they work
Good video! Thanks for the review. I would mention however a word of caution to everyone about the use of "Scotch-lock" tupe electrical connectors for the camera power. Not ideal for exterior use on anything. If ever using these, I'd advise to pump them full of dielectric grease and seal them with silicone or liquid tape. Indeed they are behind the light housing, but water can and will find it's way into these and cause corrosion and green rot on the wires eventually. I'm suprised you don't have some of those "pre-lubed" ones that they use for underground telco copper lines. Those are the bomb! =)
Well, that wouldn't surprise me it didnt pierce the wiring and I kinda figured that those are what they sent with it. I had a feeling you were a solder and heat shrink guy like me =)
The unit you bought seems pretty good for the price. to bad it didnt have a 720 resolution camera. a friend of mine bought a similar wireless backup camera last summer. He called me and said he was having troubles connecting the camera power. first time he connected said it only worked when he applied the brakes, so he knew he had the wrong wires. the second attempt didnt work unless the headlights were on. lmao So it took me less than a minute to find the right backup light wires, and he was set. Though an issue i saw was the wireless signal was not secure. i ran a scan for wireless signals with my laptop, and found it was easily hacked. not sure what use that would be for hackers, but i think you could inject video into this?
There's obvious latency in the video stream. That means the picture you're relying on isn't accurate. There's a delay and that could cause an accident. This is why most wireless video systems are still analog. Digital gets you a better picture but the lag is a dealbreaker.
Not bad but a bit jumpy. I have a 2.4 ghz analog one of these and the range is incredible and the video is very smooth and crisp. Got it at a surplus and salvage store.
@@12voltvids It had skips every now and them. I'm just used to mine which is analog. Not sure of the max range of it but I had the camera hooked to a power supply like you did and I took the screen downstairs and the picture was fine. I'm in a fairly large house too.
Can you install the camera without the reverse light. I trying to install it witg a cigarette lighter with 2 wires positive en negative its not work with me thanks for video regards Peter
I'll dig it up and do a night time video. The car was traded in on a new one. My daughter decided she deserves a brand new car with all the horns and whistles and it came with a factory dash cam so I took this one out and stuck it in a box to sell. If I remember it want bad because the reverse lights on the car provide light in reverse.

That would have been an analog camera. This one is digital so you likely won't see anything.

Yes it is a basic system but for reversing it looks ideal.
Would also work well as a reverse dashcam for, say, rear-ends and stuff.

I used what came in the box with the camera. U actually cut them off and soldered/taped as one of them didn't pierce the insulation to begin with.

If you hook up cam straight to battery will it drain battery or burn out the camera
