Mr. Kilmer, I find myself watching more and more of your car repair videos everyday. Short, to the point, and entertaining. In this particular video, I find you trying to help me in saving money unlike some other people's videos that are actually trying to take my money. I actually wanted one of those wiry mirror attachment contraption things, but now i'm sold on the wireless camera you displayed here. Thank You and God Bless.
Scotty, you are my new CZcams addiction. I love your straight forward advice and your humor! The wireless camera vid was very interesting and informative. Keep up the great work!

Originally I was going to buy one of these, but for an extra $60 I got an really nice brand new touch screen sound system with GPS navigation, CD/DVD player, bluetooth, wired OR wireless backup camera, ext audio input, watch movies off USB or sd micro card. Glad I installed it. Looks factory too.
What brand/model is it?

Long time channel supporter! Keep up your amazing videos scotty! My father and i watch them all day. You always have the best information, and yourself well. You don't get that with every mechanic youtuber these days.
Keep up the good work Scotty!
I think you should really give the cat another chance. He seemed to be wandering aimlessly. Needs something to do. Plus that van is big enough to hold his litter box.
🤣
Cats are too easily distracted. All you need is one bug back there and your warning system goes offline.
I always check my mirrors and blindspots whether the car has cameras or not. So may people rely only on the cameras and end up damaging their cars.
yes I have noticed many more people are now backing into things and have these cameras as they are only looking at the video screen in the car, and not paying attention to the left and right surroundings of other cars and people moving off to the sides of the car as they back out, and there has been a new surge at autobody shops for rear end damage from people backing up now. and its almost always on the very corner of the bumpers they are hitting. the back up camera makes people lazy so they do not look with their eyes like they once did.
When I got my drivers license, the driving instructor said that nobody will pass unless the turn their head around and look behind them. Now, people are encouraged not to.
Backup camera once helps in seeing what’s directly behind you like a parked car but doesn’t cover the sides or blind spot area.
Thanks for all you do, Scotty! I thoroughly enjoy the information that you provide for us, and even though I'm an experienced mechanic I always learn something from you. God bless you and yours!
Not sure how many other people thought of this, but for both my cars, I simply bought wire extensions designed for the sockets on both cars and spliced everything to the extenders before attaching them to the OE sockets (with the bulbs on the other end, of course.)
I like the old back up cam, it’s called looking out the back window
I still look back even with backing cam, it's after i backed though
I never learned with a back up camera..... Of course people nowadays have become dependent on them...... Can't even back up a smart car without one.....
@@christopherrosas2738 i hope thy aren't tht dependant on cameras. A smart car is the most sawed off car, if someone cant back no camera then no license should be issued 😂
@@gth882 I'm saying most people can't..... Heck I learned on a full size van and have never needed a backing camera

A CLEAN NON OFFENSIVE COMMENT
This comment is offensive to dirty people.
Backup cameras are worth it, even for compacts. This year, I installed a wired backup camera, It's true that joining the reverse wire into the camera was tricky, but tracking the wire from back to front was really easy. Just follow the tail/backup light wires. The monitor I got was 5 inches and gets electricity from the fuse box, which is also tricky. Take the dare, it worth it.
No they are a pointless gimmick for the stupid who can't turn their head.
This is awesome! I've been thinking about adding one to my hatchback! Thank you for the review!!
Very nice Scotty, thank you.

Scotty, I need this system and here's why. I've had two back up issues, one resulted in an accident other, hurt a bush. My wife has a backup camera in her Ford edge and I love it.

I'd be careful about cutting off that cigarette plug. The plug might contain surge protection or a step-down circuit. Wiring direct could blow it out. You could wire in a in-line "jack" so it's all hidden in the dashboard somewhere.

Scotty - what about the latency factor inherent with wireless transmission? I feel like if what I see on camera lags behind what's actually occurring, I may see myself run into something, moments after I actually do in realtime...

Another great tip. Did not know these were available in wireless. Perfect for our 09 Corolla. Thanks Scotty!
from my personal experience I have seen this back up camera make people lazy and looking at the monitor and end up hitting more things with their car, and backing out into traffic and just hitting things at a much higher rate, it makes the person lazy and solely dependent on just the camera and not doing basic looking with eyes to see if people are walking down the row of cars and end up hitting them anyhow,
A Team the best method still is to look out the back window and use your side mirrors to so your front end dosnt hit anything. I've never had any issues doing it that way.
This could save a life.
Thanks Scotty. As always very useful info.

Scotty, I've been looking at E350 passenger vans, like the one in this video, primarily as a work vehicle but also for camping and fishing. Are the older Ford vans pretty reliable? I've been considering late 90's/early 2000's with around 150K.
have a 2000 e350 panel van and has north of 200k on a triton v8, 4 speed. Literally just consumables have been replaced. Make sure to get a 97 and onwards for obd2 though.
If you can find one with a diesel in it, (even better if combined with a stick), those things will outlast the body of the vehicle.
@@Rainman00000 Thanks, Rainman. I've had good luck with late 90's/early 2000's Ford trucks. In fact, I'm currently driving a 98 F150 with the 4.6L and 190K. But I haven't had any experience with the vans. Is there anything, in particular, that I should look for, when checking out vehicles?
20 year old van with 150K miles? That would be considered very low milage.
Vans are great and very reliable the first 20 years of service.
After that they start to nickel and dimed you, cuz everything starts to fall apart. Most work Vans average about 15 - 20K miles a year.
@@Not_Sure_ Thanks A B, Yeah, I've seen a lot of vans in my area with well over 300K, and still chugging along. I'm hoping to find a lower mileage van, and still stay within a pretty tight budget. I certainly appreciate the advice.
