    I have one of these installed for when I'm towing my (large) box trailer. Normally the car's interior mirror is completely blocked, but I have the camera installed on the back of the trailer and powered up from the trailer's lighting circuit. All I have to do is turn the car/trailer lights on, set the monitor (mounted on the dashboard) to "mirror" view and voila! ... I have a full view behind the trailer exactly as if I was looking in a normal rear view mirror. Much safer than having to rely solely on the door mirrors when I'm changing lanes as I can see what, if anything, is coming up directly behind me.

      This is the exact install I am planning. My concern is abundance of wire. Did you cut off all of the unused to wire it directly? What did you do with the antenna portion of the wire? Thanks

    Some questions about this.
    1 - Do they sell spare suction mounts?
    What if the suction cup goes bad later and I can't find a spare ? Then, the camera is useless.
    2 - What if my cigarette lighter socket is already used?
    My socket is already connected to a splitter which has free USB ports. So, it would be nice if the screen allowed you to select USB or lighter plug.

  • @davidstewart8979
    @davidstewart8979 Před rokem

    Ditch the suction cup
    I hate the suction cup system, impairs vision and often comes unstuck. It seems that most cell phone holders have a ball connection system compatible with the one on the monitor mounting bracket on the suction cup system. You can simply unscrew the cell phone holder and screw on the monitor mounting bracket. I used a cell phone holder which is inserted into my CD slot (who plays CDs these days?). Its positioned perfectly for viewing, is unobtrusive and very secure.

    Hi, great video! I also watched your review of the Auto VOX Solar Wireless Backup camera. Which one of the two is better to buy? The Solar one looks like it doesn't get wired to reverse lights but you have to push a button every time you want to go in reverse. The other camera (CS-2) automatically goes on and displays on screen as soon as you go in reverse. What is the advantage of having the Solar camera? Thank you

    • @davidstewart8979
      @davidstewart8979 Před rokem

      Had a very disappointing experience with the solar unit. Unless you live in a very sunny climate (I live in Vancouver so no luck there!) and the car is outdoors most of time, the solar system simply doesn't recharge enough to power the camera. Consequently, i was frequently having to recharge it via the USB connection which is a real pain. Gave up on it eventually and it is now in my junk pile. i went to the CS-2 which is much more reliable but you have to wire to the reverse lights which can be quite tricky lon some cars if the reverse lights are not readily accessible from the trunk. I installed one of these cameras on a Honda Civic sedan and the wiring was in fact very easy then I installed one on a Honda Element, which with the clamshell tailgate turned out to be real character builder....took me most of the day and about a six pack of beer.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  Před rokem

      You will have to remove one side of the light to locate the reverse wire and tap onto it. You will also need to see if there is an access hole for you to pass your wire to that backup wire.

    • @chrispower475
      @chrispower475 Před rokem

      @@dial2fast There is but my concern is that I will not be able to snake the wires through the top where the hatch (not sure if this is the correct word) then down through the interior towards where I can gain access to rear lights.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  Před rokem

      @@chrispower475 There is a rubber loom that you can fish the wire through on the hatch. Keep in mind that's a lot of work and most of the panels will have to be removed. You will need a coat hanger or long zip tie to help fish the wire through. If you have never done any kind of installs, it can be very challenging. It's really up to you if you want to try, or perhaps pay a car install shop several hundred dollars to to install it for you.

    When I got my CS-2 it worked wonderfully. However, it lost its pairing and refuses to pair again. There is nothing from Auto-Vox on the net on how to solve this problem and no way that I have found to talk to anyone at the company. I've tried everything I can including what the manual says, checking electrical connections, dismounting the camera and putting it close to the display unit, and so forth. Nothing works. On this basis I would not recommend this, nor Auto-Vox in general (because there does not appear to be a way to get help from them if something goes wrong. If it looses its pairing it becomes junk!

You do not need to pay so much for a camera that only you would use it when you go backwards. these cameras only serve when you leave your Drive Way but in some parking lots they do not work. You would have to put the camera inside the car in the back seat so you could see more. I use the YI Dome camera, and it only costs less than $ 50 Dlls.
