- I recently discovered this amazing mopping hack and wanted to share it with you! I hope you try and and love it as much as I do!
** DISCLAIMER- I can NOT pour my mop water outside OR down the toilet. Neither of those are options for me. I have no option other than the sink. I felt the video was long enough, and common sense would dictate that I wouldn’t have to show me sanitizing it, it would be understood that I did. If you would like to see, here is how I do it:

I clean my floors with the same mop bucket and love it. I don’t use soap on my floors because of the large amount of soap scum and dulling it puts on the floors. I use your basic white vinegar. It’s natural, it neutralizes any odors, it’s a natural disinfectant and you’ll notice after a few cleanings your floors will look amazing. After a few cleanings the soap scum will be completely removed. Thank you!!
Nice job! I have the same type of mop and bucket and it's the best. I've been cleaning houses since forever. Your floors are gorgeous. In my experience, I've learned a lot. One thing is that if you use too much soap, cleaner or whatever you can eventually damage the finish on the wood. I would skip the Tide pods and just stick with Mr Clean. It does a great job . My favorite is the lemon scent. Vinegar is good too. I did have a guy that installs hardwood floors tell me to only use it occasionally because it is strong. But what do I know, I have laminate!

vinegar is a great cleaning solution, but should never be used on real wood floors

Good on you for switching from Swiffer they are overly expensive and leave a film just like you mentioned!
I have a cleaning company and we love the ocedar bucket system! I suggest switching your tide pod mixture to something formulated for wood floors to keep them shining and beautiful. We use Sal Suds or Murphy's Oil Soap. Both are great options and you only need a small amount to get a fabulous clean floor 💕

@Vigilantwarrior42 no, that’s not good for the environment (plants and animals) depending on what soap/cleanser you use.
I use Liquid Tide but only 1/4 cup. I don’t mix it with any other cleaner. A whole Tide pod sounds like a lot of soap on your floor, and then you added Lysol cleaner as well. I do love the O’Cedar mop though.
I'm really happy that you've found something that works for you and that so many other people like it too, but I'm really stunned that this seems like a new concept to so many. I'm tickled at the thought!. I'm from the UK, and this is how we've always cleaned the floors. I'm 48 and I have always done this, like my mum, my gran, my great-gran and so on. You clean the house, vacuum, "pop the kettle on" (boil the water), make a cup of tea with it and then pour the rest in the mop bucket. When you're done mopping, you sit down with your cup of tea!
I'd never actually considered it might be different elsewhere, and I love that thought! PS - always use boiling water, one for the hygiene factor, but also it'll evaporate off your floors. Warm water will not evaporate, it'll sit there and, over time, damage wooden or laminated flooring. Also, it'll leave those faint water marks. Also, to avoid any build-up of residue, or you get streaky floors when the sun shines through, skip the detergents and use boiling water and white vinegar only. Dirt cheap, anti-bacterial, safe for kids and animals, environmentally friendly - and has worked since before even my great-gran! Happy mopping, I'm always going to think of you when I do my floors. Aww thank you so much. I use vinegar for a lot of cleaning around the house but I HATE the smell of vinegar. I can tolerate it long enough to pour it in the laundry or to pour it into the toilet or sink to scrub for a second. But I don’t think I could tolerate the whole house smelling like it until the floors dried. Thanks for watching from the UK! I feel special! (Also, I love that you said “tickled at the thought”! We say that here in the Southern US and the rest of the country thinks it’s silly, I guess. 🤷🏼♀️ HAHA we are not as different as we sometimes think we are, I guess.) Much love to you!

I boil the jug and pour all over my tiles and mop, but I mop 4 to 5 times a day because the tiles a white and glossy you can spot a spec of dust so I bought my self a cordless stick vacuum the vacuums and mops at the same time to use it several times daily, but still do my traditional water boil jug pour once a week

@@tigereyes8396 I have white tile too. I use Clorox Clean. Spray and mop and have a clean bucket of water to rinse as I go. I also use an electric brush to get at the grout. Works great if you have a small area to clean.
I use the toilet for dumping the dirty water, tub water to rinse bucket then toilet again for dumping. I to use this same spin bucket, but don’t recommend dumping in kitchen sink, especially and sand into garbage disposal is not good for it. Thank for sharing.
I dump into the toilet as well but if she dumps out into a non disposer side of her sink that works ok as long as she runs water after to clear grit from the trap. But it is easier for me height wise to do the toilet rather than the sink and the tub is right there to get water to rinse out. I’m getting too old to lift to the sink to dump
I also use toilet to dump the dirty water just can’t stand the thought of pouring anything down the sink where I use to prepare food.I’m not a compulsive cleaner or even close but there are somethings that don’t make a lot of sense and that is one. A neighbor of mine used her kitchen sinks for her mop buckets I almost tossed my cookies and I will tell you I never ate at their house and always watched what they would bring to neighborhood functions,I would not eat
If you wash good off of dishes in a sink, that is not different. I do all sorts of things in my sink, then I clean it. That’s how cleaning works.

I've been a house cleaner for 20 years. I always use Dawn dish soap for washing floors because it breaks up all grease and dirt and it's much safer for kids and pets.
Agreed. Plus detergent tends to make floors slippery. My parent could fall.
Please google "Does Dawn Dish washing liquid have bad chemicals in it? " and see what you find. I quit using it in my home where grandchildren and my animals are plus do not want in in my country water system or on my hands.

@@bellatronm5875 I have always used vinegar and water on most of my floors and when soap was needed because of extra activity in bad weather I use ivory soap which I grate into a quart of hot water, mix in with whisk before adding to mop bucket and adding more water. Also, ivory flakes work fine. I pour my mop water outside or down the commode, never down a kitchen sink. Also, we always take our shoes off at the door. This has worked great for the floors always looking like new and our allergies.

I appreciate this a lot. My mother never made me help out with chores growing up and I became an adult and felt so lost and overwhelmed once I had my own place. Now as a 32yr old woman, I still feel much more comfortable cooking than cleaning. I will definitely be trying this and I love a good cleaning video. It’s so helpful for those like me who just don’t really have cleaning skills! A visual really helps.
Aww I’m glad this was helpful! I don’t use the tide every time. I did it a few times to get the layers of grime off this floor that was left by the previous owners. Now that I got them good and clean, I usually just use a little of the mr clean. Maybe once every 6 mo or so I will throw a pod in with it. Thanks for the kind comment! ❤️

My mum and dad never taught me housework because they themselves didn't do any but it comes naturally to me and I ended up being the default cleaner of my family when the helper didn't show. However, my son takes after my parents and I can stand on my head trying to teach him but to no avail. When it comes to the cleaning of the home, at least, I pity the girl who'd be marrying him, for she will have to do it all by herself, as it happens with millions all over the world, every day.😮

I’m terrible at housecleaning and used the swiffer wet mop. It’s gotten more challenging since back surgery a few years ago and a bit of arthritis. (I’m 77.) Your video was so enlightening that I bought the spin mop. Was just delivered. I put in a Tbsp of Dawn and some Melaleuca all purpose cleaner. I just mopped my kitchen and bathrooms in 20 minutes. So easy!!! Feel clean, proud and accomplished! 👏🏼

I love Simple Green or Clean, always forget name, in Lemon to mop, I make a spray to use on my bathroom and kitchen hard surface. I also like adding dishwashing pods when the floor is really dirty. I got burned by a pot of water just like yours that I dropped and it splashed back over my feet. My water is set hot and I run it from the tub.
I bought the swiffer wet mop because I am crippled with arthritis and it works fine and makes mopping easier, less stressful on my back, arms, etc,. Before I had the sponge mop. I will Never use a cloth mop like she had in the Video, because they Spread Dirt around. That is my experience and I'm in my 60's.
I cleaned professionally for 20 years. We always used vinegar and water, and most of the larger homes had floor steamers for wood like yours. When you need a deep clean Murphy's oil soap is wonderful and it smells amazing.
I have always used the Murphy’s oil, my hardwood floors are over 30 yrs old and they still look beautiful.

Don't understand people who clean with vinegar. Wouldn't the entire house smell like vinegar?
In my humble opinion, and based on my 15 years of professional housekeeping, you might want to spin a bit more water out of that fabulous spin mop (this is why they are the bomb!) For your wood floors. They dry fast because the water is hot but i also think that hot water may be hard on the wood floors. And some of the color in that mop may be stain from the floors.
I know for a fact that mr clean (along with pine sol) leaves a residue behind because of a shower i cleaned years ago, once a week, for 3 years, that suddenly turned black. The tile guy at home depot told me it was my cleaners residue. It had collected enough grime because it was sticky, that it turned black. I had to use Krud Cutter to get it clean and it took a hard scrub to do it. Also, thats alot of soap ! I would have changed the water out 2 or 3 times for that much floor too. It comes to a point where youre just spreading dirt around.

Not a great video IMO. Who ever heard of using laundry on a floor that’s wooden. And probably not original real oak like back in the today. Wooden floors of today are engineered wood & not solid oak that could stand up to practically anything so that’s all the more reason NOT to use laundry detergent on an engineered floor. And too much soap as well along with using boiling water, wtf!. Sometimes I think these videos are made on purpose just for likes, reactions & sensationalism like many do in other social media platforms as who does this, including dumping the dirty bucket of water down a kitchen sink instead of a toilet bowl. .

Young lady, your floor was not that dirty! I've cleaned houses where I got water that was dark brown and almost black! I suggest pouring the water down the toilet.

I remember reading in Real Simple that if you wait to clean your sink last, it is perfectly fine to empty the water in it. Queen of clean was a contributor and said she forever would use her 2 sided sink, one side for clean water with solution and the other for rinsing after it became dirty, or was time to redip in the solution side. This also works if you need to do a quick water rinse after the job, just use the same method except replace left side with water. After everything is done you can use whatever product you would use for disinfecting your sink normally after a good rinse first, then let it sit for the sanitize-disinfection period of time while even possibly scrubbing product with a cheap soap dish brush dispensing gadget, filled with the same product. So you are not mixing chemicals, affecting the disinfectant process etc. Plus you just rinse, dry and cross that task off the list.

Your home is very clean my dear! Those floors were slightly dirty. I thought the mop water would be darker! Thank you for sharing. When I was your age and didn’t have so many health problems I kept my home just as clean. How I miss being able to do my own cleaning! Maybe if I do just a little every day I can clean again. Thank you so much from one barefoot southern woman to another.
If you add a little rubbing alcohol to your solution..not much, maybe 2 tablespoons, your floor will dry so fast and it will not damage your wood. I've been doing it for 10 years. Great video!

I’m confused about the spin mop. I get the first dunk in clean solution, then pump squeeze it damp. But, since the mop now has dirt on it, if you sink it in the clean solution before pump squeezing it, aren’t you putting the mop in now-dirty water?
I would rinse the mop, after each pass, in the sink, under running water. It used more water, but…
I also only take showers, no baths, because I don’t want to sit in my own dirt (kind of the same concept, I think).

@@HeronCoyote1234 She poured all the hot water into the clean side, but, there's also an opening you can pour clean water into & it keeps things separated. When you need more clean water there is a lever you can pull up & it let's more clean water into the rinse-water side. I've only had my O'Cedar a short time & it took me a couple of times to figure all that out. Actually I read the instructions, which might have helped from the beginning 😅.
That big pot of very hot water she would have been dangerous, not to mention near impossible, to pour into that small clean water port without a large funnel.
Alcohol will take paint and varnish of of wood and tables and floors . I would never use alcohol to dry floors, just turn on a fan.
Great job! I love a spin mop! For the people that are worried about water on your wood floor: the mop spins the water mostly out BEFORE YOU HIT THE FLOOR! the hotter the better because it dries sooooo fast, leaving no dampness behind.
Ps : spin mops are also fantastic for washing walls .. because you’re not getting any dirty water back on the wall.
When you wash the walls with the Spin Mop. does the water run down your arms?

Is the spun water kept separate from the clean water? (Sorry, don’t know how else to ask that LOL! Guess I’m asking if there are two chambers for water. One for the clean water and one for the dirty water. I don’t like putting a dirty mop back into clean water so I always rinse it in the sink before I put it in the mop water. Mopping takes forever and I’ve been looking for a solution. It happens no matter how well I prep the floors beforehand with sweeping and vacuuming).
@@dr.stacey7283 I have this same question! Is there a reservoir for the dirty water? So you mop and dip the mop in the suds and spin for the first go round and then what? Keep dipping? Don't see an advantage other than the spinning gives you a drier mop. I use a Rubbermaid bucket and hand spin out the mop and sometimes have an extra bucket handy with clean water that I rinse the dirty mop in before grabbing more suds for another go-round. You almost need two buckets or one combined which would be awful heavy to lift. Also, I happen to have a sink on my back porch for emptying the bucket. If I didn't have that sink I would put the dirty water down the toilet!
@@kathleen9929 yes I have 2 buckets. One with the clean water, and the red one to spin the dirty water in and rinse the mop, otherwise, if your floor is really dirty, you are just washing it with dirty water. But don't think this just applied to the bucket version - any type of mopping by the end you are using dirty water to clean.... I normally do one room, empty out the red bucket, then do the next - we have dogs and live on a property so even though the floor looks clean you know when you mop!!

My house was built in the 50’s and I’ve been mopping with hot water for well over 30 years. Water is bad for wood if the water sits on the wood for any length of time. But, hot water is good to use especially with your ceiling fan on high. The ceiling fan dries the floor faster, so the water doesn’t sit on the wood for very long at all. LOL, your dirty water was not that dirty looking. Great job! Keep up the hard work. PS: If you use a dry dust mop daily, it will keep your floors healthier. God Bless, Susan from SE Missouri
Susan Spinks... with this mop you spin it enough that the mop isn't saturated with water dear, and so the water is fine for the laminate flooring... and with fabulosa in it, trust me it dries quick!... and yes i turn on the fans in each room as well as the fan on the AC unit to help it dry quicker. 😊

Thanks! You should have seen it the first time I mopped using this method. Getting all the gunk built up from before only using the swiffer…it’s much better now that I have switched to doing it this way.
I am so glad you addressed that the swiffer type mop cleaners leave a film after they are so-called "clean". It's not just swiffer. I have a shark vac mop. It doesn't matter how little soap I use with the water, it always leaves a residue. I don't know why these kind of mops are so popular. And yes, it is sticky. If people do wear shoes or slippers in the house it tracks it up from the residue. I do like your idea. I think liquid laundry detergent (a couple tablespoons) would work too. Diluting it is the key. I like using warm water too. I have the Pergo type floors and would like to try the O Cedar mop. Thanks for your informative video. 😻

I have to make a few comments ... I used to have a cleaning business for 20+ years and during that time I learned a few tips ... as far as cleaning wood floors (tile and fake wood floors are a different thing) never use hot water or harsh cleaning chemicals on them ... they both will damage floors over time ... I used plain water with about 3 drops of Dawn dish detergent mixed in ... then, I would get 2 clean washcloths ( I used the cheap washcloths from Target or Walmart and I got a lot of them) and wet them them in the mop water, wring them out, then laid then on the floor, overlapping a little, and mopped an area about 8x8 ... toss those cloths into a "dirty rag bag" and get two more clean ones, repeat the process ... if you rinse them in the mop water and use them again you will from then on be using dirty rags and dirty mop water to clean with ... your floors will not be clean! ... it takes a little extra work but worth it ...when my bag is full I wash them in the washing machine with detergent and a little clorax ... I never could understand reusing dirty mop water to clean with ... nasty!

My Gran taught me to mop 3 times. Get a good quality mop. Get a good quality squeeze / spin bucket. If your wooden floors have a surface varnish make sure whichever cleaning product you use doesn't have a harsh abrasive that will strip & dull your surface. You can get products especially for wooden floors that have a mild oil 'wood conditioner' included - that maintains the shine & fills / hides any scratches.{ Maybe that's your Murphy Oil - I've not seen that product over here in Australia } BUT Don't use it in the 1st or second bucket! Get the dirt off First!
# Also be careful about how hot the water is & make sure your floors ARE ACTUAL WOOD! Some of those good quality laminated click together Faux Wood floors / floor planks can be very deceptive -real looking - & these are made of thin pieces that are are glued onto the base board. Very hot water will loosen the glue & then the laminate and cause buckling & the edges to start to curl up = Ruined Floor! Expensive.
So - in between each go-over { and even between rooms - if they're medium to large } CLEAN your mop! Be guided by the colour of the water. If it's grey throw it away! Otherwise all you're doing is moving dirt from one area to another. > Rinse in fresh hot water & a mini amount of cleaner. > If your rinse water is also yucky- rinse again.
Don't put too much soap on your floor. It will take several rinses to get off. ( + Its dangerously slippery. + it attracts dirt & gets tacky quickly. )
- The First Mop is to put your hot water and cleaner ONTO the floor. > Go over floor
> Tip out > Rinse mop > fresh hot water >
- The Second Mop is your Wash Cycle ! This loosens & removes the dirt
> Tip & Rinse > Start again with a freshly cleaned mop
# Depending on how grubby your floor is - how large & how dirty the water is
becoming; you might need to do the 'Wash Cycle twice
- The Third Mop is your Rinse Cycle - this is to remove any soap & residual dirt.
> If your rinse water is still yuk - do over!
# Once your rinse water is mostly clean - HERE is where you add - a minimal amount of - your Wood Conditioner product - that then goes on / into your squeaky clean timber.
As Gran says; "otherwise alls you're doin is moving dirt around!"

Get the newer spin mop with the blue bucket insert and you will always have clean water and only one bucket.
Sounds absolutely right! Also, that’s the same as the spin mop theory.. so you’re never putting the dirty water back on the floor. Idk why , but I always have a problem getting that mop to spin dry.. too much of a hurry to get it on there straight, I think.
Same theory when using a steam mop- keep changing the pad.
Or else you’re just spreading dirt around like grandma said!

I love, love, LOVE this system! Going to get the double bucket for upstairs (bedroom areas) I use a tbsp of Dawn and 1/4c of baking soda to the required 2gal bucket of hot water. Clean as the board of health! I've also added 1/2c of vinegar when cleaning the kitchen or bathroom. I have a mixture of laminate, tile and vinyl planks. Works great on all floors without streaks or residue. NO shoes allowed, water dumped in toilet. If you vacuum first, there will be no "grit" in the water. Turn mop head on the side and clean baseboards also.
I am getting the O-Cedar double bucket today. I will go to Ace Hardware (they have it) and pick it up.
@@terrijuanette486 our Ace Hardware only has the single bucket system. I think Walmart also carries the double bucket system and close to the same price.
That mop water going into the kitchen sink was gross. It should always be dumped in the toilet.

OMG!!! I have been cleaning my prefinished hardwood floors for 20 years without success. This does work!!! Thank you! I have bought l kinds of gadgets, cleaners and steamers. Everything left a water residue. I have had to go on my hands and knees with a microfiber cloth and non ammonia window cleaner to make them look good. This is so much easier!!! I have Brazilian cherry hardwood and every smudge shows. Thanks!
I just had lvp floors laid. Love, love, love the spin mop. Never felt so good about my floors being clean. Even after 1 week I have already dust mopped and wet mopped 2 times. Your " recipe " for mop water is absolutely perfect. Thanks for sharing.....👑
I have a 96 year old Craftsman Bungalow with the original hardwood floors. I have used Murphy's Oil Soap for almost 30 years. It conditions the wood and my floors are beautiful. (I also use a spin mop by BoomJoy with microfiber heads) I would be concerned about the Tide pods being too harsh and the effect over time. Also, the boiling hot water seems harsh to me as well. I appreciate you sharing but I'm worried for your floors

I also wondered what the detergent might do to the finish. I used the Mr. Clean on my tile floors when they were newly installed and had a very noticeable residue left on my floor. I stopped using that and started using Pine-Sol. It cleaned up the residue and I now use it on both tile and hardwood floors. You could possibly have even prettier floors without Mr. Clean. I would definitely keep the detergent off the floor.
I agree. We had our home built almost 40 years ago and had REAL hardwood floors put in, not this engineered fake stuff that they are using today. I would NEVER use water on my hardwood or a tide pod. I too have used Murphy's Oil Soap and to restore luster, our floors have to have wax applied and then they have to be buffed. So, my advice would be to just be very careful and to know exactly what kind of floor you have before using boiling water and tide pods on it!

depends entirely on the seal used on the hardwood. definitely wouldn't recommend this treatment on anything that could be degraded by strong detergent, but your average water based seal should be fine
I LOVE the Mop and and foot spin Bucket. I use very hot water on my tile floors but would not on wood floors. I use a simple citrus degreaser. I love the mop and foot spin bucket. I use it for my floors, washing my, car and house windows, walls and baseboards Really helpful for reaching hard to reach areas like across your car roof (tall SUVs) and high windows This mop and bucket are the next best thing since sliced bread. Worth every penny

I have not touched a mop in so long because I have been using this for several years and tried everything before. And you are so right about saving money. I am a clean floor fanatic and am barefoot in the summer and wear white socks in the winter and have 2 little dogs. I do not use any soap only white vinegar and boiled water because I don’t have to rinse and there is no soap build up over time. I buy a gallon of vinegar and only use 1/2 - 1 cup depending on how many rooms. Way less expensive. I would suggest pouring the dirty water down the toilet not the sink, more sanitary. I rinse out the bucket with boiled water and vinegar. Also do your best to not let the pedal get drenched in water. It will rust. I keep the bucket in the box it came in when I put it away to protect it. I have one for upstairs and downstairs and have given them for gifts. People live them. Again I have not touched a mop in years and I am always barefoot. It is worth every penny.
Love my old Cedar mop and bucket. I have real hardwood and I use very little soap in my water. Dish soap is my go to. I use hot water out of faucet, but I spin my mop 20 foot pumps. I pour my mop water down commode. I love how clean it gets them and no residue left behind.
I used to contaminate my kitchen sink with dirty mop water- rookie mistake! Dispose down the toilet or down utility drain.
I also use a bit of Dawn dishwashing liquid soap and white vinegar, i have 4 old Chihuahuas. I love this bucket and mop, dirty water to the toilet.
@@aberghoff2091 ive always done my floor by hand with rags and i used to flush the dirty water down the toilet until one day i poured the water in and a rag was still in there...right down the toilet. very expensive repair bill for that one. now i pour everything down the kitchen sink!
I tried this hack today and I am truly amazed at the results! I have lighter wood floors and I was so frustrated with seeing streaks and hazy spots after I’d just cleaned. I have tried Swiffer and Bona products but was never satisfied that the floors looked really clean. I used a Tide pod and some lavender scented Fabuloso and not only do my floors look great, but the house smells wonderful! I am so glad I ran across your channel! Thank you!
Aww great! Glad I was able to be of help to you. I don’t do this method often. Maybe once a month or so. Just ao I don’t damage the floor. When we moved here the previous owners claimed that these were “real hardwood” but I don’t think they are. Since I don’t know what they really are, I tend to err on the side of caution. I just sweep and “spot clean” here and there in between mopping like this.

New to your channel. Mary here. Amazing because I came up with this on my own. My floors " regular mopping " just wasn't doing the job. So, I also have a mop system like yours. " Love it " I also use the same Mr Clean. However; I put a dish washing pod in my bucket and just use steaming hot sink water. Not only does my house smell good but my floors look beautiful! And so clean. If any washing pod is left I just through it down the disposal to clean that. Thank you for sharing.

I have wood floors 127 yrs old...(old farm house) 5bdrm, 2 bath. Floors are usually mopped weekly, I use Murphys oil soap. Been doing this for 23yrs, no damage to the floors and I don't even wax 😊💞
Wood oil soap is great on very old floors because it will restore some of the oils to the wood but with the newer floors, it can cause damage.
This is the best mop and bucket you'll ever need. Had mine for 10 years. 😊

Also, the laundry detergent is designed to release the dirt from the fabric mop to stay in the water. So the floor iss so much more clean.
I have hardwood floors but I can’t use highly scented cleaners due to allergies. I use Murphy’s Oil soap, which is for wood and many other surfaces. It doesn’t leave a film, cleans great and not overly scented. I’ve been doing this for over 5 years and my floors still look brand new.
I had forgotten about Murphy’s. My mom used that when I was little and I loved the smell of our house when she mopped. I should pick some up and try it.

A little bit of Murphys oil and vinegar works wonders for my hardwood floors.

I would suggest not putting all those germs down the kitchen sink. I throw water outside or down the commode. I adopted her routine and oh my goodness what a difference my stone tile floors are! She is brilliant!

I was on the fence to buy one, you convinced me. Tide Pod, interesting. I'll try that too. I have gorgeous wood floors 110 years old so the hot water may have to cool down a bit.
One thing...my mom told me never, EVER pour dirty mop water down the sink, you prepare food there. She saw my Aunt do that once and we were never allowed to touch anything she cooked ever again. It belongs either down the toilet or in the yard.

I think it smells great! I've been doing it for years and never had an issue with too much water destroying my wood. You want to use it- use it. Works great!!! I'm not one to have a smell i don't like to save 5 bucks a month.
I would be reluctant to use laundry detergent on hardwood floors, or to mix two different cleaning products together. I've used Murphy's Oil soap for mopping (and generral cleaning) for decades - it leaves my floors so clean and shiny, and has a wonderful, light clean scent. And best of all, it's safe for all wood surfaces and no rinsing needed! But you did just convince me to get the O'Cedar mop and bucket, so now I'm off to Amazon! xoxo

Adding two drops of eucalyptus oil to the bucket, brings up the shine on the wood floors and wards off dust mites.
I agree with not throwing mop water down the kitchen sink! I definitely think that very hot water on laminate or wood floors is not a good idea, I also use a little Murphy's oil soap on all wood in my house! A little goes a long way and it is not as expensive as most cleaners! I love my Ocedar mop and bucket, I have one mop head marked to use just with the oil soap and another for the bathroom floors! Easy peasy!! 😁

My question, was mop after doing a section rinsed in another bucket so you aren’t dumping the DIRTY MOP into the solution, then using the dirty mop solution water on your floor? Seems that way with this bucket.

I purchased one years ago and get more mop head refills on Amazon 3 for 20. I love my mop so much! I use Murphys oil on my hardwood floors and they are so clean and well maintained.
I have hardwood floors and I started using this method a while back and it really does work pretty well. I was using Murphy’s oil soap, but it doesn’t do crap for my floors. My floors are probably 65 or 70 yrs old And I’m just so over trying to clean them. But the laundry detergent and a little bit of my favorite cleaner definitely helps. It gets the floor really clean and it smells so good.

I love my O’Cedar spin mop. I got the updated one that keeps the dirty water separate from the clean water, which is awesome. I wanted to add that I use a dishwashing pod and a small amount of powdered tide instead of a laundry pod. I also add a small amount of Meyers clean day peony scented cleaner. If you use too much, there will be a soapy residue, so be careful to use just a little bit!! Luckily, my sink tap water gets just as hot as it would get by heating it on the stove, so I save time by not having to heat my water on the stovetop. Since switching from a regular mop to the O’Cedar mop, my floors have never been cleaner! They dry super fast, leave no residue behind, and are sparkling clean. I wish I had found the spin mop sooner, but I am so glad to have it! Try the powdered tide- I bet you love it!
Edit: I dump the dirty water down the toilet. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable having the dirty gross water touching the inside of the sink I put my dishes into!!
I heard the clean water leaks out into the dirty water and the pad doesn't work as well as the old version. Have u had any issues
I have one too ! And HATE IT !!! You have to fill it up with water for it to work right . And it's so heavy with all that water !!! Heavy and a bad back don't work well together!
Lisa mode I have a spin mop with wheels on the bucket , only time I have to lift anything heavy is to empty it , which I do in the toilet so it's not high to lift.
@@JMac-27 I am sorry! I’m just seeing this! I don’t have any issues at all. When I mop, I mop my whole house so I need to fill it all the way up and I dump it either into the toilet, or into a utility sink in my basement, so I only notice the weight at the very beginning, when it’s just filled and I have to bring it from the sink down to the floor. As far as the dirty water mixing in with the clean water, there is a tab that you can lift or close that allows the clean water to fill up the reservoir where you dunk your mop. You raise the tab to let the clean water in, so you can wet your mop, and then you need to make sure you push it down once the clean water fills up the “well”. Every time. Example: lift the tab to allow the clean water to fill up the reservoir to wet your mop, immediately push the tab down to stop the flow (both of clean into the well, and to stop the dirty water from a dirty mop, from back flowing into the tank of clean unused water). Then dunk your mop several times and continue mopping. Take mop out of reservoir when you need to refill “well” with more clean water. Lift tab and refill, and then immediately push it closed again before dunking your mop. Repeat. Doing this will keep the clean water separate from the dirty water. As long as you keep the “well” closed when you’re dunking your mop, it keeps everything separate. If you leave that tab open the whole time, then the dirty water will absolutely get into the clean water through the holes that the clean water comes out of to fill the clean water reserve. Whew! I didn’t realize this was going to be so difficult to explain, so I hope this makes sense! I have never used the old version, but common sense tells me that with the old version, the clean water has no chance of staying clean, and with the new one, as long as you don’t leave the valve open, there’s no way to contaminate the clean water. Worst case, you leave the valve open, and the clean and dirty water would mix just exactly as it did with the original version? That’s my logic, anyways. I hope that made some sort of sense, and again I apologize for not responding sooner!

This was interesting. I’ve always been told you never put water on hardwood floors… I grew up helping my mom use “ bowling alley” paste wax then she would let my sister and I polish it by running and sliding on it in our old socks😂

That's what I always did. Paste wax, let dry, then husband's huge knee socks on the Littles and let them slide!!! The neices loved waxing day. It brought my floors to a deep slick shine!!!

@@kempkennedy3542 I’ve had hardwood floors for 30 years now, I wet mop twice a week (dogs) but I only use warm/hot tap water. Murphy oil each time. Dust mop daily and once a week I take a good furniture polish and spray lightly and go over it with a dust mop. Has always worked perfectly for real hardwood floors. This “hardwood floors “ that comes in boxes and are snapped together, you can pretty much use whatever on them. I had rather have actual hardwood planks and put in the effort to keep them beautiful.
I think with the little bit of water left in your mop after your vigorous spinning, it should not damage your floors. You have a very clean and organised house. 👏🏻

Glad to have helped! I will say that now that I finally got my floors clean, I do not need the tide pod every time. I just use the mr clean. About every 6 months or so I will toss a pod in with the mr clean. But regular maintenance just needs a little mr clean.

This is a great idea, I will be doing this w/the 2 tablespoons of alcohol. I just want to point out that when you wash the mop be sure to dry it naturally and keep the fabric softeners away from any of the micro fiber products. The fabric softener absolutely ruins them! I love your honesty and yeah, this is real life , "don't have a maid" cleaning! I hate cleaning but I have a family and it is necessary to maintain a home or end up on the "hoarders channel". I just watched a woman clean a widowed elderly man's kitchen with 12 years of grease on the floor and stove. It was a little disgusting but what I learned is not to be judgmental and I actually learned a lot about cleaning my own kitchen as my husband is a elderly man who cooks and usually makes a greasy mess without a care about who is going to clean it up. She had some really good ideas about cleaning this obviously extreme mess but it was very informative as your video was, thank you so much for sharing . Knowledge is wonderful, sharing knowledge is priceless!

I used the Swiffer Mop about twelve years ago, it made my Dog's paws very itchy...so I switched to this way of mopping, but only use a couple of ounces of Mr. Clean, or other cleaner. It made a huge difference, gets everything really clean!! Thanks for doing this video! ❤🐕I have a bad back, and dump the dirty water down the toilet...don't have to lift it up so high!😊

I have a hurricane spin mop ...it's awesome for a deep clean. I use Mr. Clean plain. As for the wet jet...get an old towel ...trace around the base or use and old pad as a pattern...make 2 pads out of the towel... Reinforce the edges with a zig zag stitch if possible. And now you have reusable machine washable pads for your WetJet. Also another thing that's good to mop a floor with is Dawn dish soap ...a generous squirt and a tablespoon of vinegar and water.

I think this is great for periodic deep-cleaning! It may strip the finish since Tide is so strong. Have you tried Murphy’s Oil Soap? It’s gentle and (in my opinion☺️) smells nice.
I have the new laminate floors. I began using the Cedar foor mop.along with a bit of Dawn! Looks good. The stiffer doesn't cut it. (I'm actually surprised)
The water is too hot for regular cleaning. It will strip the floors eventually.
Liquid Tide is better as you can use a smaller amount. The pods are way too much so unnecessarily harsh for a small space. Detergents actually attract dirt ionicly which is why they work but leaving extra behind attracts dirt to your floor. A rinse in clear water after will cut down on the residue and is better for your pets, especially if they lick their paws. Also the water doesn't need to be that hot to work.
i make my own liquid solution for my wet jet, i am trying to find a solution for the pads. i have a o cedar blue sponge thingy, thats machine washable, with a good mop bucket with a wringer on it will do the job
Murphy oil doesn’t work for me 😢 but I don’t think boiling hot water or fabuloso is safe for hard wood

A couple years ago our dishwasher spilled out all over our kitchen. We cleaned up the water and that wood floor was so clean and shiny. I haven’t used a dishwasher pod in my bucket yet, but going to try it.

I've been using a rag mop with a ringer bucket. Usually the water is black, although the floor looked clean. I tried the swifter wood jet. The pads on the would pickup tons of dirt even after the wet rag mopping.
I have a lot of coated hardwood floors. That o-cedar mop looks a lot lighter and easier to use than a big rag mop.
The O’Cedar mop is the best! If you have access to Sam’s or Costco, buy it there. I think mine came with 4-5 extra mop heads. I still have 1-2 heads I have not used yet.
I have the similar O'Cedar cleaning system and we love it. I dump the dirty water down the laundry tub, then clean the tub out when all done using the mop. and the bucket system. We wipe the bucket system out after use. You did a great video.
You did a great job! Thank you for sharing. I must admit that I am always surprised how many people pour things like mop water into their sinks…I am sure that you now will clean and sanitize your sink…an extra step before cooking . I pour mop water down the toilet or outside …
Put a couple tbsps of rubbing alcoholl in to your solution. Its a fast drying hack and has worked well for me.
You had my full attention until the sink!
I tip into the Loo, then pour water from a jug into the bucket and clean it that way. Most times I tip the used water outside, but some people dont have an outdoor area.
Everything else you showed was magic.

Those mop and buckets are THE BEST I had something like that some yrs ago and the best part was I didn't have to touch the mop to squeeze out the water, and I could use the mop how wet or dry to mop the floor , THE BEST😁
Thanks for the mop solution hack! I Can’t wait to try it. I clean cabins and I use about 7 diff cleaners for my mop water. If one pod and a splash of mr clean will do the trick, I’m going to be in love! I already use a similar mop 😊

Very good demonstration I’ve never seen one of those mops before They look really good especially if you have a big area. I would think that the almost boiling water would not be good for beautiful wooden floors in the long run. I would suggest dissolving the wash capsule in a little jug or container of boiling water first and then adding it to warm water in the bucket. I sometimes use my dirty water to wash my outside door step😀
Oh, speaking of hot homes, I was very skeptical about those Mini Split ACs. I decided to give them a try since a neighbor has one and mentioned how glad they are to have them... I can't believe how much better than Central Air they keep my home. They are energy savers and money savers.
I've always dumped my mop water in the toilet and use the tub faucet to fill and rinse, dumping the water from that in the toilet as well. Wood is delicate and the build-up from your previous product may have been protecting it. But I'd look for something to use that is made for hardwood floors to keep them conditioned without making them sticky. I do like the spin mop you featured here and think It's well worth the cost. In the Air Force and in a few other jobs I've had over the years, a mop bucket and ringer is an essential tool. This is great without the industrial cost/size for private home use.
