At the time of posting this... I can just say you're all in for a treat if you've been enjoying the series thus far! I can't even begin to describe the impact this game has had on me already, and I can't WAIT for you all to see episodes 5 and 6 this week. It just keeps getting better somehow.
Also, for those wondering, I will be playing the DLC and Part 2 right after the game. I also am currently planning to watch the show and post my reactions after so many of y'all have requested it. Thank you all SO much, I'm overwhelmed with the amount of love and support I've received! Cheers to the journey ahead~

Really enjoy playing this game. It's good seeing someone like yourself experiencing this game for the first time. It story is very compelling and you are genuinely feeling it.

Since you appreciate the small details and design, the developers really pay attention to the smallest details. Little things like if you come across a bathroom scale in the world, and step on it, it will work. If you shine your flashlight in Ellies(or any ally) face, they'll react to the light shining in their eyes. Creases in carpet will react if you step over them. The gore system is pretty in depth as well. Kill someone in the snow and their blood melts the snow around them. Kill them on a tile floor and you'll see the blood river through the grout in the shape of the tile. Throw a bottle at the head of an enemy and small shards of the glass stay stuck in their head/face. The list goes on and on - there's so much detail and polish in the game. Oh, and I'm pretty sure molotovs can work in water because the alcohol stays on top and still burns.

You can always restart a checkpoint or encounter. Also, if you hold the Triangle button when you're by a cluster of items, you can grab everything in one swipe. YOINK!!! :)

The detail of joel having a bandage on his arm in the car is unreal! I checked and that only happens if u bandage before getting in the car
If you loot the house before pushing the car out, you can give bill the letter and get some extra dialogue. He reads it scrunches it up and throws it on the floor, then it can be picked up again as a separate collectible

Fun Fact: 32:02 yellow jacket guy with the nice voice, Travis Willingham, is one of Ashley Johnson's very best friends and the CEO of their Dungeons and Dragons company Critical Role :) him and their friend Liam O'Brien voiced like 75% of the NPCs. You can even find a Dungeons and Dragons table in one of the houses in The Last of Us Part 2 because of Critical Role!
PPS: he's also married to Laura Bailey, Abby Anderson herself.
The floated basement part was the scariest part in the game for me, if I remember correctly, it was a bit darker in the original and there were 2 bloaters, normally I can go through most of it pretty calmly, but that basement made my heart rate go crazy

If you fight those 3 guys instead of sneaking past them (the part where you climb up the semi truck/before the quarantine zone) it’ll trigger a dialogue with Ellie where she reads you jokes from her pun book. She’ll then read you jokes periodically over the next few chapters/encounters. It’s really cute and one of my favorite parts I think.

This is only partially correct. You don't have to fight those 3 guys to get the jokes. All you have to do is stand by that semi/truck for 1-2 minutes and Ellie will (eventually) start telling you the jokes. She does this whether you fought those 3 guys or just hid and let them walk by.
I don't blame Eralia for not discovering Ellie's jokes because in a player's first playthrough, unless they know about the jokes it is almost impossible to get them to happen naturally. You have to literally stop in certain spots and not move for 1-2 minutes until Ellie stats talking - nobody would normally do this in their first playthrough.
Also, the times that Ellie will tell you jokes - they are independent of each other. For example, if you miss the one you described (just before the bookstore) then you can still get any of the subsequent ones.
The truck-starting scene is one of the rare times that you really can't stop and loot.😟

Anytime I had a bloater around I immediately threw a molotov cocktail lol and that section with Bill is such a fun section of the game. You're right about the little things being the best part of the game. It's my favorite part as well.

Friendly tip! Don't forget to reload your weapons often. This game doesn't reload your weapons automatically upon saving, so you can end up in a tough situation with no guns loaded and it can mean your downfall after a lot of hard work!.
watching her walk around with 1 or 2 rounds chambered does have a bit of a triggering effect on me, I must admit :)
The durability of your melee weapons and shivs is shown in the bottom right corner. Its the little squares below the melee weapon icon and shiv icon
I was just SO disappointed when you accidentally went to the car!😂It was the cutest thing when you wanted to loot through the house!!😫😂 WOOOW! Never freaking knew you could go back in the house though lol. I just ONLY always knew the other way. This game is priceless!!! I was 13 freaking years old when I knew of this incredible game. Because you keep saying you hate aiming with a controller: There are so many options in this game, you should check em out and try out Lock-on aim, disable the weapon sway etc. You can definitely improve it to fit something you like better. This game has an incredible amount of gameplay options. You can tune the game to your liking
I like that when you see an NPC stand up you stand up too, some gamers don't get the clue and keep crouch walking

The game will usually tell you when all enemies are dead by having Joel or Ellie talk, but sometimes this doesn't happen, so seeing Ellie go from hunched over holding her gun to standing up and walking around normally is a good hint that all the enemies are adea.
That was impressive how you completed the hotel without dying. You didn't kill everyone before moving on, but like most enemy encounters, you don't have to have to.

@@DerekSmith816 She's playing on Normal mode, or whatever the equivalent is in the PS5 version. If she was playing in Easy mode then she would have a ton more loot, and there are other differences (i.e. there is no Bloater in the hotel basement in Easy mode, but there was in her playthrough).

@@DerekSmith816 So you stopped watching on part 4, but you are confident that she played on Easy mode the entire game? That's like reading the first 1/3 of a book and trying to say you know the entire story. 😄
I watched the entire series, and she definitely didn't play on Easy mode. Like I said, there are noticeable differences between Easy and Normal/Moderate mode - no Bloater in hotel basement, a ton more loot, etc. If you're playing on Easy mode then you will be full of all craftable items, loot and ammo very quickly, which never happened in her playthrough.
I only found out about you're channel like a day or so ago, but I've been absolutely loving this series so far and you're special charm you add to each one, you're so cute and funny, I was crying with laughter with the courtyard of clickers and the school section (planning to watch more of you're stuff between these episodes) but just wanted to say how much of a good job you're doing, keep being you and I'm so ecstatic to hear you'll be playing Part II and the DLC, The Last Of Us holds a special place in my heart so it's nice to see someone who never experienced it go through this incredible journey of Joel & Ellie! ❤️❤️

I knew the basement in hotel would give you a hard time. I always search for the card key first, then i start generator and run straight to the door to get out 😩

The Stalkers will appear when you do one of these things: (a) pick up the keycard, (b) try to turn on the generator, or (c) try to open the exit door before you have the keycard.
It's best to loot the entire area before you do any of those, and then when you're ready either try the exit door or pick up the keycard. If you try the generator then you are attacked immediately - for the other two you have some time to prepare for the Stalkers attack.
I think this was my favorite episode yet. I’m having to replay sections of the video because I can’t decide on watching your gameplay or your reactions haha. Best reaction faces - hands down!

(I made a similar booboo in part 2 somewhere, and was forced further into the story but wanted to look around a bit more. It happens. 😀)
FWIW the pushing car sequence took me tens of tries to complete, panicking every time those infected ran at me.

I did enjoy that she tried to "speedrun" back into the house multiple times to get the loot there, even knowing that Ellie would be attacked by a Runner.

The worst thing about stalkers is that they behave... like YOU... hiding, and moving quietly, and outflanking, and launching surprise attacks.
Lucky for us that Stalkers only appear 2 (?) times in the game. It's mostly Runners and Clickers.

There’s an easily missable exchange in the hotel lobby. If you stand behind the desk for a few seconds, Ellie will come over and ask Joel to check her in to a room in a very snarky, sarcastic voice. She tells Joel to bring her bags upstairs, it’s pretty funny!

I love how thoroughly you explore the maps, honestly. the other playthroughs I've seen of this game, the players have mostly just beelined their way through from A to B without any exploration so there're tons of things in this game I had no clue about previously, like some of the different areas (I don't really play games myself)
You mentioned the soundtrack being good so let me proudly tell u about Gustavo Santaolalla, he did the music for several movies including Brokeback Mountain and Babel (won an Oscar for both of them). He's one of the few people in my country that make me proud💜

I completely agree that trying to make out peoples handwriting in game is much more immersive. the graphics are great in general in the remake but you especially see it in the first person moments when Joel picks up things and in the cutscenes. Also I’m sure you’ve realized this by now but distance is your best friend with bloaters when they charge is the best opportunity to dip them. I love shotguns too lol

I think the best tip is to calm down and try to be prepared for everything.
Like loading your weapons and trying to stay down because you become an easy target when you are running and making noises.
OK, I'm a little behind now and I'll probably stay that way. I'm glad I had a moment to get back to you though. Great playthrough! Nice to see you working with stealth when it's appropriate. For the record, I agree with you that collectibles like firefly medallions and Savage Starlight comics, are secondary. I actually think they're counter-immersive. I pick them up when they're in my path but I don't go out of the way to find them. Loot, on the other hand, well, you can never have enough. And I do enjoy finding the notes that give some historical insight into the universe.

If there is anyone like me who would rather not fight and look for the key card, you can acquire the card upstairs before the bloater comes out.
However, iirc the Stalkers still spawn so you will have to deal with them first.
After that you can just dodge the infected after starting up the generator.
I’ve played this game many times, and I need to slow down. Your summary/analysis at the end rocked. That aspect has been lost on me of late. Enjoying your play through.
Watching you play through this I realized I missed so much seeing you find different things and climbing up in places I didn't even know you could climb and I've played this game maybe four to five times Lol.

I always have trouble in the basement, the trick is to map out a route before you charge the generator, then if you time it right you won't have to fight the bloater at all

After you beat the game to wind down you should replay the cutscenes. They play like a mini movie.

oh my.. if you hate water in video games it would be so fun to see a playthrough of Subnautica by you! it's one of my favorite games, but not for the faint of heart if you have any degree of thalassophobia (like i do.. thalassophobia is the fear of open/deep water). it actually kinda helped me work through my fears because it was such a great game. face your fears! haha seriously though, i'm loving your playthrough and i realized that when joel was mad at ellie after she killed that guy, i bet a big part of the reason was because he felt responsible not only for her safety, but protecting her innocence too. and when he couldn't, he was mad at himself and projected that onto ellie. such nuance to the acting and the dialogue in this game!

Most of the enemy encounters you can sneak through and not kill anyone. There are only a few where it won't let you proceed until everyone is dead.
If anyone sees this and doesn’t know better, normal humans do not go down easier than infected. They have the same amount of health. The revolver is just stronger than the 9mm.

Did you not know that if you press the square button, you can reload your guns, and if you hold a brick or bottle. You can be a person to guess it’s mainly with the brick. It does free hits.

you should play life is strange. It is a really beautiful game with a fun and touching story line. Its also a choices based game, but your actions reflect in the story more than in the walking dead (closer to detroit become human). It also has an amazing soundtrack, i think you would love it

The TV series has a much preferred version of Bill and Frank... when you finish of course... favourite watching atm btw... really makes me want to play the game again...
NOOOO everyone misses the note Frank left for Bill, it changes the whole perspective of their relationship and what I think the show REALLY messed up on.
Too bad about the bookstore though. There was a lot of loot there, plus a shiv door. And you only had a few more enemies to kill before you had killed everyone.
Only one more episode with the YOINK after this one. Sad days.
