After watching your video, I went back to this part: I made Joel facing Ellie the whole time, Ellie just standing near the robot, didn’t do a thing, the second Joel turned away, she immediately picked up the toy, it’s so cute.

22:13 Ellie could probably have picked up a gun from a previous fight by now. But she still wants or needs Joel’s approval. Interesting touch. - Also, in that post-apocalyptic world she lives in, it is a miracle that kids do not get taught how to fight from a certain age on, with or without guns. There must be very protected areas for the kids in the protected zones (as alluded to in the DLC).
Don’t worry I’ve been playing this game since the day it came out and I’m still surprised I learn things about to to this day! It’s one of those games where you need to play it a few times to fully feel like you’ve played it completely 😊

They do some amazing storytelling through environment and short notes.

This is my fav. part of the game. Ellie decides to trust Joel totally. They have no real connection, but she takes a chance, that he will not let her die, and he doesn't let her down. They have not really bonded, but this is the first step.

You can turn off the hints if you like in the options. You’ll still get “look at” prompts to activate with L3 but they just give you small additions of dialogue.
Everybody seems to dislike hints, so I'm surprised more players don't turn it off.
Is it possible to ask for a hint? Because that would really be the best of both worlds. Most players seem to not want unsolicited hints from the game.
@@UTU49 I think people just need to learn to check the options. They even give you the option for the hint system when you start a 'new game'. They give you the option to turn it off before you start the game.

Eralia, there's no right or wrong way to play this game. Stealth can make your life easier, especially when low on ammo, but it's not usually required. I personally find stealth boring and would rather have a gunfight. I'll try and use stealth if there's a lot of enemies, that way, when I get into a gunfight, it's a little less overwhelming with the amount of people/infected attacking you. A lot of players love stealth, and that's fine too, but some appear to get really pissed off when others either don't use it, or aren't very good at it. Imo, it's more fun blowing limbs off with the shotgun or hitting that perfect head shot. Your playthrough has been hilarious throughout and is one of the reasons I subscribed.

@@eralia There are lots of times through the game that Joel will touch or look at his watch. It's subtle but once you know to look for it, you'll notice it right away if you replay the game.
For example, after Joel, Tess and Ellie leave the museum and Ellie looks at the Capitol building in the distance and says "It's got its ups and downs, but you can't deny that view", Joel looks down at his watch, indicating that he kind of likes interacting with a child again (probably the first time in 20 years).

I just finished this game last night; it was the first "modern" game I've ever beaten, as I tend to stick to snes/genesis games of my youth, and let me say: you did FAR better than I did, lol. I got stuck on some of the easiest little things, but once you get into the swing of it I was amazed at how much fun it was. Truly a great story, so satisfying to play through

You should give part 2 a go now! Some people love it and some people hate it. I’m in the pool of people that love it and honestly I think it’s a lot better than the first game. It’s also about twice as long. :)

ive played this game so many times and ive never noticed ellie pick up the toy for sam thats so sweet. one of the many "blink and you miss it" moments in this game
Stealth skill is definitely improving. Havnt really used the bow yet which is the one big thing missing. So many times just out of reach when a quiet arrow would have done the job perfect. Once i got the hang of the bow it was my absolute favorite weapon.

Small note regarding the stealth mechanic, not to backseat game, but just because it's one of the many things this game does better : Once you break stealth, you can actually regain it by shifting position and leave line of sight, then crouch and be quiet. Unlike a LOT of other games, the enemies in this one only remember where you were when they last saw/heard you, they don't have magic omniscience like those other games.
It's been amazing watching you on your TLOU first playthrough .... the "oinki" sound it's so funny ahahahaa 😅

I just subscribed to the channel. When I ended the first run of pt1 (and even more when I ended the part 2) I remember I spent 2 days litterally not knowing what to do with my life.. Not because I didn't have a game to play, but because this game brought a ridiculous amount of thoughts of self evaluation that touched me deeply.

In response to your message at the begining of the video, we completely understand :) you deserve to have the same journey as everyone else did when this game came out. Whether thats an hour of trial and error until you get past one section, or missing a few items or diaglouge options on your first run. Its those things that make the game so much fun on a second and third play through. Because you are constantly discovering new secrets that you missed before. Also, i agree with other people when they say we loke seeing your struggle 😂 its relatable. Not only that, but you are a really good gamer, as in, you dont rage quit and drop the game or difficulty as soon as there is a challenge. You power through it and gradually improve with each encounter. Its actually been really cool to see your combat style change over the game so far, as youve gotten more comfortable with the weapons and controls. All that being said, play how youd like to play ❤ we will support you regardless😊

The infection took over near Halloween so that was a perfect time to have spiced pumpkin latte and then the world fell apart. So the ads for stuff like that indicates what the season was at the time of the apocalypse

Streaming for people is hard. Its that line between entertainment and actually olaying a game how you want to. Shouldnt be too hard on yourself. There's always going to be peiple that complain... A well versed player seeing you miss something creates an intrusive buzzing in their brain that doesnt go away. If they express that to you in a non empathetic way, thats on them.

Just an FYI about the Dawn of the Wolf poster, when Joel told Ellie that "someone" dragged him to see it before the outbreak, he meant Sarah. At the start of the game when Sarah wakes up in bed you see a DotW poster on her bedroom wall.

She talks about Tommy like he’s secretly Joel’s husband and not literally his brother.

@@TukaihaHithlec Joel and Tommy are both adults when the outbreak happens. Joel tells Ellie "It's just some dumb teen movie." and obviously a Twilight-type film. Even if you didn't see the DotW poster in Sarah's bedroom, it's pretty clear that Joel would have gone to see it with Sarah.
"She talks about Tommy like he’s secretly Joel’s husband and not literally his brother." Are you talking about Eralia? At this point of the game Tommy is kind of a mystery. You see him in the prologue but once you get to 2033 he isn't mentioned for awhile, and even then not a lot. Until Tess is infected and tells you to take Ellie to Tommy, you don't even know if he's still alive - both Joel and Marlene talk about him in the past tense.
@@jhornacek You may not realize, the “ /s ” means the preceding comment was sarcastic - I know that it was with Sarah. And I know all this about Tommy, but she keeps putting a certain emphasis on “uncle”. I suppose it’s not impossible, but this was a triple-A game released 10 years ago - the mere fact Ellie was on the cover was considered “progressive” at the time.
The lack of a mom is part of the tragic backstory that Joel had Sarah in his teens, he married her mother but she likely died shortly after, so Joel had since dedicated his whole life to his daughter with a little help from his brother, only to do everything right and lose her anyway, and Joel doesn’t take loss well so he’d sooner act like the people he’s lost never even existed.
@@TukaihaHithlec We don't know what happened to Sarah's mother. Joel tells Ellie at the university that he got married young but when Ellie asks what happened to his wife he says "Too much." The common theory online is that she left Joel, leaving him to raise Sarah himself.
You don't see a lot of photos in Joel's house but in Sarah's bedroom there are only photos of her, Joel and Tommy. If her mother had died then you'd think she'd have some pictures of her. But if her mother had left them she would more likely not want to have any pictures of her displayed.
It may not be fall 20yrs later. But knowing the world went to hell on Joel's bday (sept) it was in fact fall when that sign was put up

One of the best tips you can get for combat, at least against "normal" opponents: select a bottle or a brick as a weapon, watch for the reticle to turn green on the enemy and tap R2 and the item will essentially lock on and home in on the target. The enemy is then disoriented, it allows you to run towards him and you can punch him easily without any risk of being hit by this enemy. You can save a lot of ammo by doing this, which is very useful if you play in "Hard mode" one day.

2:31 I'd been gaming for 3 decades before going online. If you did get stuck in a game, there was an incredibly slim chance that that month's magazine might have useful info.
Games were really hard back then too, especially in the eighties. At some point someone in a suit realised franchises were cheaper to develop and people wouldn't buy the sequel if they didn't finish a game. The folks that think Demon's Souls and it's endless sequels are hard, would really struggle with most old school titles.
Yeah, as much as I probably would’ve liked to see areas explored, seeing you run like a madman while a horde is chasing you is amazingly hilarious and I don’t think I’d prefer to have it any other way😆

Drives me crazy how some “gamers” feel the need to coach others on how to play on their first playthrough. Nobody is perfect on their first run. Nobody knows the “easy way” to do anything on their first run. I think the git gud community just needs to chill and let people enjoy the game how they want with all the mistakes and inefficiencies. That’s what makes watching a first time playthrough fun. Reminds me of all the meta chasers out there, they take the fun out of just playing a game for what it is.
That said, I’m so excited we got two uploads today! Just finished watching episode 4 when I saw this uploaded 😅

I know you're well ahead of this point by now, and I'm way behind your uploads, so I feel like I can comfortably say that the only gameplay advice I'd give is to just have fun and play it your way. Which you're obviously doing. Yeah shit gets easier the more you play, but you gotta play more to get there first. I've played it dozens of times so I can breeze through most of the combat sections, but I loved learning to play that well and I wouldn't want to take that away for anyone else.

@@eralia Ok I promised myself I wouldn't inundate you with recommendations, but I need to suggest ONE: Ōkami. It was released first on the PS2, then the Wii, later re-released in HD on the PS3 and Xbox 360, then re-RE-released in HD on the PS4 and Xbox One. That should tell you all you need to know. It hasn't been as well-recognized as it deserved, and I can guarantee you will love it. One of my favorite games of all time. Watch a trailer if I've got you curious 🙂
