Is This the Best Portable Gas Grill? Weber Traveler Grill Review

Weber has plenty of portable grills to choose from with the Q range, but in my experience, their carts leave a lot to be desired. The Traveler is the first Weber gas grill that I would consider truly portable. The cart is sturdy enough and folds down to fit into the back of most SUVs. Most importantly, the grill can get ripping hot and gave great sear marks when I tested it out on a couple of ribeye steaks.

Weber did a great job designing a decently-sized portable grill that you can take with you to places like the park, a sports tailgate, and the campsite. With 320 square inches of cooking space, this grill is big enough to use as your home grill if you live in a condo and don't have a lot of room, and because it folds down you can easily store it out of the way.
The large, durable wheels make it easy to traverse over obstacles like rock, mud, and grass with little effort.
The heat distribution is mostly good, and the cooking grates feel high quality and lock in for added stability. While some people would like an additional burner for greater control, I would only cook burgers, steaks, and hot dogs on this so I didn't need it. If you want the option to cook low and slow then you should look at a two-burner option though.
If you enjoy doing anything in the great outdoors and have always wanted to bring delicious food to the table (pun intended) then the Weber Traveler is a no-brainer. Whether it’s at the lake, the park, the game or even at home, this is an enjoyable and functional gas grill that anyone can use.

If you want a challenge, try assembling one of these grills czcams.com/users/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I am a technician by trade and the technical instructions were easy to follow. No reading, just pictures and diagrams. You assemble everything in 5 steps from the bottom up. Step #1 - Assemble 4 Legs and Wheels; Step #2 - Add the Front Cover and Cross Bars to support the frame; Step #3- Assemble the Burner to the Lower Grill Housing and install the knobs; Step #4 - Install the Side Burner and side shelf; and Finally Step #5 - Install the Upper Char- Broil Lid, Cooking Racks, 3 Burner Railings and Lid Handle. That's It and you're done in about 2 hours and 40 minutes. You have the option to pay for assembly after making the purchase - I would strongly suggest that you take it if you don't want to be bothered with this challenge. The only tool I used was a Phillips head screwdriver and a standard pair of pliers. The grill cost a little more because of the side burner, but this is what makes the grill so versatile and popular among backyard grillers. Have fun and enjoy!

Great review Ricer. I don't know how I missed this when you put it up. This is really a great grill. Not just for portable but many folks homes. I do wish it was a two burner though so you could do some indirect cooking ( whole chicken for example). But a nice dedicated grill is nice.

I bought one at about $325. No regrets at all. This thing is the best. I have purchased non portable grills and they don't compare to this. Best part about Weber products is the parts are available at your local Home Depot. Best purchase in a while. I got mine cheap, but even at $500 it is a bargain. It just offered so much for the price.

We were thrilled to find this grill, we moved to a condo and a smaller garage so we’re not able to keep our standard sized grill. The fact that it folds up and even stands against the garage wall is perfect. The grill itself is wonderful!

I am very careful when making a decision. I have looked at grills in stores and friends houses for years and was always surprised of the poor quality and wobbly feel of the grills. I have seen this Weber portable grill a few weeks ago at Lowes and had an eureka moment. FINALLY! something sturdy and portable, and no need for big gas tank! Your video made me make my final decision. Going to Lowes right now to buy it!

REALLY wish you would compare this to the 2 burner portable Napoleon grills. Both have scissor stands built in with wheels. But the Napoleon has both the TravelQ and the TravelQ Pro models. I've read that many prefer those because they have bigger lids so you can put whole chickens on the grill, but you can't with the Weber. Also the 2 burners let you actually have 1 burner on and put your wood chips and water and your meat on the other side and it'll smoke them over many hours. So you get a type of smoker with the grill which you can't really do on this one. LOVE all the details.

I don't have one yet. I found one locally, quite by accident and I've been researching it since. I already have a huge stainless grill, but just don't need something that large anymore. I also like the idea of interchangeable grates. I could put on the griddle and have pancakes on Saturday morning, then reinstall the grate and burgers or steaks that afternoon.

  • @mobilguy100

A weak point of this Traveler is that the Red plastic Latch in front breaks Easley, but the weber is replacing them with same if you call. It should have been fabricated as an aluminum latch.
I just found out that at this time there is no griddle available by Webber for this Traveler.
It cooks than he WeberQ . Very controllable thou.

Well done on doing the review. Had picked one up after doing some research. Best feature is the folding and easy portability. After that, mostly downhill. No versatility. No attachments like a half griddle or full griddle, which is crazy. Also one burner so no way to do indirect cooking plus takes a long time to heat up. Installing the gas bottle is awkward and cumbersome. Noticed you didn't show the part about putting the bottle on. Have sold it and moved on. The older weber grill had two burners and versatile attachments. What were they thinking??
