The best diction of any singer ever I used to always a remark how I could so clearly hear every single word that man was singing, with my parents would play his records. Some people think of it as a sad song because he’s nearing the end and looking back, but I find it to be the exact opposite. It is so uplifting because he’s somebody who marches to the beat of his own drum and did things his way.

      I don’t know, Al Jarreau’s a diction king!

I agree with all you're points, his diction is quite literally the best I've heard, I LOVE IT, and yes the song is so motivational and uplifting, it has some sad undertones but mostly uplifting

    I got you fam!!!
    That's life
    Fly me to the moon
It was a very good year

    Young at heart
You make me feel so young

@@dinibell That song always inspires me to keep going!
"That's life! That's what all the people say. You're riding high in April, then shot down in May. But I know I'm gonna change that tune, when I'm back on top in June!!!"

    • @dinibell

@@jay_Van_Money I’ve always wondered about the last line of the song though. The entire song is about getting knocked down and getting back up, getting knocked down and getting back up, etc., then there are those last two lines,
If nothing’s shaking this here July,
I’m gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die.
I know it’s not to be taken literally; yet, it’s still a bit jarring - like when the needle scratches on a vinyl record.

My favorite Frank Sinatra songs are Something Stupid, Witchcraft, To Be Young At Heart, High Hopes, and Strangers in the Night. I always thought this song was so arrogant. My father really liked it and I couldn't believe a Christian would go for this. How can you live a whole life and say you alone were responsible for everything, good and bad, that happened. I asked my father about that.. I don't remember his answer, but it didn't satisfy me. Frank's voice, excellent!

    • @chriswhinery925
      @chriswhinery925 Před rokem +1

To me the song isn't about saying that the narrator alone was responsible for everything in his life, even an atheist couldn't say that because of course what other people do does affect us. To me it's a song about living your life in a way that has integrity, where you don't compromise on your core principles, you do the things you are supposed to do and do them well and in a way that you can look back and be proud of.

Beautiful song and Franck Sinatra, what a voice! he recorded it at the end of 1968, but the original, sung by Claude François who was a star in his country, was released in France in 1967. The title is " Comme d'habitude " which means "As usual." Lyrics are completely different and the song is about the life of a couple (his, he had just separated). The French version is just as beautiful. Paul Anka, a singer you may know, was in Paris at the time and heard the song that he immediately liked. He decided to make his own version and then proposed it to Franck Sinatra. And it became a world hit ... this is the story of this beautiful song.🖐️🇨🇵

Check out 'One For My Baby and One More for the Road' by Frank Sinatra. It's incredible, as are all the songs on Frank's best album 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers'. 'You make me Feel so Young' is superlative. The arrangements on the album, by Nelson Riddle and his orchestra are amazing.

Frankie is still 'The best of the best'. My favorite recording of Frankie's is the super cool "Luck Be A Lady". I still to this day put on his greatest hits CD and play this song over and over again. Frankie and Aretha did a fabulous duet together of "What Now My Love" from Frankie's "Duets" CD which topped the charts at #1 during the mid-nineties.
